In light of tumblr and twitter losing its mind over the LARPers who think harassing Jews, waving flags from terrorist organizations like Hezbollah, and hanging out in tents instead of going to class will have any effect on foreign policy, I'd like to talk about this new Harvard poll on the politics of America's youth. There are several observations to be made, but I'm focusing the I/P data.
Contrary to the view you get from social media, the majority of young people aren't following the Israel-Hamas war closely
Young people support a ceasefire, but almost half of young people say they don't know if Israel's actions have gone too far
A majority of young people sympathize with both Israelis and Palestinians, and only a slim minority sympathize with Hamas
Most young people do differentiate the civilians from their governments
You can see the actual numbers for all of this below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly: Gaza isn't even in the top 10 issues that are most important to young Americans.
Tumblr media
I know this is just one poll, but this tracks with other polls I've seen over the past 6 months. So far, I haven't seen any quality polling over supporting the idea that the most popular Online takes from young people on I/P are popular in real life. Social media is not real life, and privileged rich kids cosplaying anarchy on campuses instead of going to class aren't reflective of most young people, either.

"Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world's grief..."
Today I am mulling over and would love input from other folks about "how much of the world's grief do we actually need to know, and how much is too much?"
Because on the one hand, traumatizing ourselves online by reading graphic accounts of people's experiences of war, of torture, of rape, of watching family members and friends be brutally killed, of seeing the gruesome aftermath, etc. - this is not activism and it doesn't undo anything that happened to those people. On the other, you really do need to know some facts to speak intelligently about any given atrocity or situation, and fact-checking (especially by reviewing publicly available evidence) is usually the best way to avoid both propaganda and losing your sensitivity to the severity of the problem to others. And on the third hand, if you do this too much you become numb to all.
So what is the right balance?
(This is a little truncated but I don't have time to write up fully my thoughts so far, but seeing as I don't have conclusive personal answers anyway, I'm curious about other people's ideas.)

unavoidable that you will be the villain in someone else's story. You will be painted in an unfavorable light. You will be the irredeemable one. and all of this will happen despite how nice you might usually be or how kind or how respectful or how warm. and you will just have to move on.

Remember when conservatives heard UBI would support people "unable or unwilling to work" and immediately threw a fit over the words "or unwilling"?
As the big-C (in more ways than one) Conservatives here in the UK are currently demonstrating, people can get mighty creative with the definition of "able to work" when they want to. "Or unwilling" provides necessary leeway to prevent certain people from being deprived of benefits they need
People can also be deemed "unwilling to work" if they refuse to take the one job that's available to them because the working environment has more red flags than the Bolsheviks
When benefits are tied to "willingness to work" you are expected to demonstrate that by treating jobhunting as a full-time job in and of itself and I speak from experience when I say that is fucking soulcrushing - and I half-assed it by taking the "your job is to find a job" thing literally, working out how many hours a week the money I was getting would correspond to at minimum wage, and only doing that amount, it would be even worse for someone who actually did that (and wouldn't get you into work any faster)
The U in UBI stands for Universal, of course that includes the Unwilling To Work
Most of this discourse comes from the USA, which is already infamous for giving free money (bailouts and subsidies) to people unwilling to work (the capitalist class). The UK is also guilty of this, as are a great many other countries
I'm sure the capitalist shills would love to hear that this "you have to be Willing To Work to earn support" mindset is, like their views on queer people and police brutality, something they share with the Soviets

I wish there was a magic skillet I could pick up that would make me literally impossible to fire from a job, no matter how weird or disagreeable people decided I am, where I could still work only part time & ideally with lots of breaks. Like sorry Ms Karen McWasp, I am a load bearing unit and the task will be done when it's done and there's jack shit you can do.

More JVP Shenanigans
TLDR; JVP's Haggadah was put together by goys and their tax filings show they have no intent to help and/or represent Jews. We all know JVP is the Autism Speaks of the Jewish community. They exploit Jews and try to present themselves as a Jewish organization concerned with systemic discrimination, Palestinian rights, antisemitism, and much more. Hell, you can go look at their core values on their website and a lot of us would agree that these are good things.
JVP uses all that as misdirection. It uses Judaism as set dressing for its own agenda and exploits people’s ignorance. However, if you have just a little bit of knowledge you can tell that JVP is not only exploiting Judaism, but it is an organization that has wholly embraced Jew face and does not know what it’s doing.
Take a look at their Haggadah.
Their Haggadah was clearly put together by goys who didn’t know what they were doing. Many of the translations for their blessings are wrong or were clearly put through google translate. Other blessings are slapdash put together or grabbed from other Seders. Take a look at this blessing:
Baruch atah adonai eloheynu melech ha’olam asher kidshanu b’mitzvotav v’tzivanu l’hadlik ner shel (Shabbat v’shel) yom tov. Blessed is the spirit of freedom in whose honor we kindle the lights of this holiday, Passover, the season of Freedom.
Do you see the issue? For those who don't know, there is no mention of Passover in the blessing at all. So why is it in the translation? They also didn't include any of the extra words for Shabbat in the translation as well. If you have the patience, go through and read it. It omits the story of Passover, dismisses the importance of the holiday, and just changes the entire thing for their agenda.
“But it’s a Jewish organization, I swear!”
Well let’s look at their tax filing where they as a 501(c)3 have to describe what their organization is and their intent.
Tumblr media
That's weird. A Jewish organization that states it fights against antisemitism and is committed to Jewish communities has nothing on their filing about Judaism or Jews in any capacity. It's mission is regarding education about Palestinians. Some of you might say "what's wrong with that?" There's nothing inherently wrong with that mission statement. What is wrong is that JVP hides its intent, bigotry, and antisemitism behind a veil of Jew face. It claims to be a Jewish organization, but it can't even get basic translations of prayers right. It omits, misleads, and misinforms about our culture, history, and traditions in such a heinous way that it's downright disgraceful. JVP does not represent the Jewish community and at this point it's clear that they're Jewish in name only.

if you didnt want me to empathize/ask questions about your fictional monster why did you make it born into circumstances outside of its control that make everyone believe it is intrinsically evil. you expect me to buy that something is born into evil regardless of its choices or actions and its not those that describe it/made it that way r who i should be questioning??
