MF Day #77: Cobrax
Tumblr media
Cobrax is a very cool and unique looking mixel. For starters I’m digging the snake appearance, and it feels very fitting to the ninja theme as snakes are mostly quiet, and stealthy creatures. But the most interesting detail is his sentient snake tongue. It’s certainly a strange and a bit confusing concept with taken out of context, but for the mixels universe that is filled with strange and whacky looking creatures, I think it fits in just fine.

MF Day #76: Compax
Tumblr media
I really like Compax’s look. His LEGO set has a well build rounded shape for his body, and his scooper arms and wheels at the back are some neat additions, that add to his hunger rush character. I find it a bit clever too that since’s he a living garbage truck, he’s willing to eat and crunch up just about anything he sees left on the ground. I guess it’s just in their nature to consume trash, hence the name Trashoz.

MF Day #75: Myke
Tumblr media
For a city that’s as big and vibrant as Mixopolis, there’s probably a ton of mixed-up stuff going on with the abondance of tribes and the limitless combinations they create. So it’s nice that they have a group of news reporting mixels to help chronicle these events.
While the Newzers isn’t the most imaginative concept for a mixel tribe, I still really like this inclusion nonetheless. Because I could see them as representing the people who are passionate about inciting history, creating interesting discussions, and spreading awareness for meaningful things, even if it’s something as simple as mixing.
Myke is probably my favorite of the group, being a cool combination of a microphone guy and a tripod. And I just love how his headphones are just a major part of his body. Myke’s overall look is a great representation of one of the most crucial aspects of filming/documenting: editing! Gotta give the guy respect for that.

MF Day #74: Mysto
Tumblr media
The idea of a ninja mixel tribe is a definitely a cool one, but I can’t help but wonder where it came from. Was it something that the crew genuinely wanted to do? Or a request from the LEGO execs who were looking to appeal to fans of one of their most popular franchises based off the ninja theme? The ladder case probably wouldn’t be the biggest surprise, but regardless I still think it made for a pretty fun addition to the Mixels lineup. The Nindjas were lucky enough to be some the few Mixels of the last couple of waves to have a decent amount of screentime(maybe not much but there was still more to be shown than the rest). And while they don’t have the strongest personalities in the show, as they just felt like bland heroic characters, they do however have some sick looking designs. Mysto pulls off the sensei look perfectly, and his design has a bunch of creative uses for LEGO pieces, especially with his hat and hair.

MF Day #73: Sweepz
Tumblr media
And now we’ve come to the nineth and final wave of the Mixels, and it’s a another pretty good set of tribes that wraps up the series nicely. While the characters featured were one again not given enough time to present themselves in the show, at least a good chunk of them got to be a part of the plot, even if they are side plots. For a concept as weak as garbage mixels, it’s surprising how they came up with some really cool and inventive deisgns out of it. They all look equally good, but if I had to pick a favorite I’d probably go with Sweepz. He’s got a cute beaver like appearance, and he greatly utilizes the broom piece for a tail, and those brush pieces for hands.

MF Day #72: Skrubz
Tumblr media
Skrubz is a nice looking mixel to round out the Medix group. I like what they were going for with his head light with an eye in the center, something that feels slightly reminiscent to the Glowkies but given its own unique look so that it doesn’t feel too similar.
Also, Skrubz is a apparently a very skittish mixel whose nervous about using those life paddles of his. Being cautious and extremely careful as he’s worried about either hurting himself or others if used improperly.
Honestly that’s pretty relatable, I know the feeling of using an elaborate tool for the first time, trying to be very careful when using it as I’m trying to get a good control of it. But hey, at least Skrubz has some extra light around his eye to see clearly of what he’s doing.

MF Day #71: Skulzy
Tumblr media
A pretty clever way to bring out that one-eyed mixel character by giving them an eyepatch, and what better fit for that mixel than the Pyrratz. The designers did a pretty good job using different pieces to create a skull-shaped head, and the additional pirate flare helps add some color and give him some personality. Admittedly Skulzy doesn’t stand out to me as much as the other Pyrratz mixels just because they’re a bit more creative with their designs. But regardless he’s still a very welcoming addition to the tribe.

MF Day #70: Aquad
Tumblr media
At this point, Mixels has shown us that you can take any ordinary object or device and turn it into a living mixing creature. It’s cool that they were able to come up with a plane-like mixel with Aqaud. And much like with Tiketz, it’s cleverly incorporated with the fire fighting theme, making Aquad resemble a fire plane.
I also like how they incorporated some bird-like features to his character. Such as scouting out the area in the skies like a hawk, scooping up water like a pelican, and then dumping it out like a seagull. With the last one perfectly encapsulating the function of a fire plane by dowsing water on anything burning. Hopefully it isn’t anything in infernite territory, otherwise Aquad will for sure be getting some complaints.

MF Day #69: Surgeo
Tumblr media
Surgeo has got an interesting design, at first glance he appears to be a warm and comforting looking mixel doctor, who just so happens to have a shot needle for a hand. However when you turn his upper head upside down it suddenly sets off a different vibe, a more unnerving appearance that looks like someone you wanna say away from. It honestly, leaves me very confused but curious on what this mixel’s lifestyle and personality is like, and if his literal mood swinging head tells another story.
I gotta hand it to the LEGO team for coming up with a mixel design like this. We’ve seen some split-personality mixels before, but Surgeo feels a bit more subtle in his case.
Also, it's rather fitting that this is the 69th Mixels character I've drawn for this project

MF Day #68: Sharx
Tumblr media
Sharx is truly a mixel that defines the pirate in the Pyrratz group. He’s got it all, the hook, the bucket leg, the eyepatch, and a captain’s hat to boot. And his shark-like appearance is a great touch, it not only looks cool, but it really gives him some authority. Sharks are the most commonly feared sea creatures when roaming the seas, so with this guy having a shark’s body, it helps him come across as the most feared mixel pirate to come across. And his passionate pirate nature only helps strengthen that image. A rather clever mixel concept here.

MF Day #67: Hydro
Tumblr media
I think Hydro is a pretty decent looking mixel. The main thing going for him is ladder jaw which you can have fun coming up with crazy mix combinations with. He's apparently pretty forgetful or has his head in the clouds, which is a rather interesting and nest trait for the character. Also the way his mouth moves in the special is just moving his upper head up and down in a rather janky way. Was it done to save up the budget for mouth moving? Most likely, but I think it works for this particular character.

MF Day #66: Tuth
Tumblr media
With this new batch of Mixels having police and firefighting mixels, it was pretty inevitable there would also be a medical tribe as well to complete the trinity of the emergency department. I like how with the designs, they tried to make the Medix look as scary and unnerving in appearance, when they’re actually very nice and relaxing to be around. Y’know similar to what was done with the Spikels tribe. And it fits in well too because many people would naturally feel a bit uneasy during their first few visits at a doctor’s place. And especially when you’re young, seeing it as a scary place that you won’t want to go into. And out of all of the Medix, Tuth is the one that fits the cake of looking unnerving. Now we’ve already seen plenty of bizarre designs where they take an ordinary object and turn it into a living creature. With Tuth, he’s pretty much a giant walking molar! With teeth! I don’t think I could come up with a stranger concept for a mixel If I even tried. But anyways, I love the way they executed Tuth’s design, topping it off with a bowtie and a toothbrush for an arm to contrast his freaky looking appearance. Easily making him my favorite of the medical group!

MF Day #65: Lewt
Tumblr media
If there had to be a group of thieving mixels, I couldn’t think of a better fitting theme than pirates! The Pyrratz is a pretty neat tribe, I like how each mixel of the group has a slightly different color palate, possibly symbolizing their messy and freelance lifestyle.
And they came out with some fun and unique designs, my personal favorite being Lewt. Who is pretty much both a figurative and literal walking treasure chest, with his crab like appearance, and gold coins for teeth being great touches. All coming together to create this character whose like a crab always looking around for any piece of money he can get his greedy little claws on!...Why does that sound so familiar?
And I gotta say, with Lewt being as prominently shown in the intro for “Nixel, Nixel Go Away” to the point that he’s the very first character we see as if he’s one of the main characters. It makes it rather strange and funny how he was not seen in the special itself, at all, not even a single cameo! Every other main mixel featured got to have at least a scene or two, but not the one that was seen the most throughout the intro? Geez, talk about false advertising.

MF Day #64: Splasho
Tumblr media
Now I want to make it very clear that I don’t think any of the 9 Mixel waves are bad, not even close. There’s always a best and worst for everything, but I think event the worst of the Mixels lineup is still very solid on their own. Which just goes to show how much I love this series. That being said, wave 8 is probably the weakest one. It just doesn’t have as many inspiring designs or personalities that could top off what was did before, however I can’t say that a majority of the group isn’t well crafted or thought up. Plus, there are a few stand out mixels, with Splasho being one of them. I think him having a fire hydrant hat is very clever, and it can act like the source of all the water that stored inside his body. I also really like his round physique and gapping mouth, it compliments his hurrying attitude and is something we haven’t seen before.

MF Day #63: Tapsy
Tumblr media
Tapsy is a very close second to being my favorite Mixies Mixel. He’s got such an awesome design, one of those that are simple but effective. And is probably one of the best examples of taking something ordinary and turning it into an animate creature. In this case we have a living drum set! I love the way they utilized the flat hat pieces for drums/cymbals, his two sets of purple arms and legs really help make his color scheme pop. And his base drum with the logo on it is the cherry on top!
It is nothing short of a travesty that we didn’t get to see Tapsy in the show outside of the intro. I can only just imagine how fun it would’ve been to see this guy in action, even if it was just once. I mean for a little as we got from Mixels like trumpsy or the MCPD, at least we got to see them present in the special instead of just being nonexistent.

MF Day #62: Paladum
Tumblr media
Paladum’s design is a perfect combination of looking goofy and majestic. It was a pretty smart move to have a horse-like mixel be a part of the medivals tribe, since they were often used in jousting tournaments in that time period. And the additional wings to make paladum look like a Pegasus was a great touch, helping him feel more otherworldly.

MF Day #61: Busto
Tumblr media
Busto has got such a unique and funny design. He’s a walking jail cell with a goofy face on it. Now I find this idea to be really clever, but I can’t help be wonder how his body functions work. Whenever he eats or drinks something, does it go inside his stomach? Or is the jail cell is his stomach, and it just ends up in there? If that’s the case it’ll probably be a pretty messy prison for any criminals he catches.
