Their time together had been brief, but Leo had treated Amelia nicer than any other guy that she had dated in the past - it wasn’t exactly hard to beat all the assholes that Amelia had dated, but he had definitely set the bar higher for her, possibly been the reason that she had stayed single after their encounter. Even though their time together was short, he had gave her a taste of what she truly craved, to be treated kindly, to have someone interested enough to get to know her, he truly did feel like something out a fairy-tale to her but she wouldn’t inflate his ego anymore than she already had.
The smile he gave her when he suggested taking her on a proper date gave the blonde butterflies but she tried her best to keep her indifferent composure together, but she couldn’t hide the slight blush on her cheeks. “Maybe if you’re around long enough & don’t disappear, I might just let you take me out, if you’re lucky.” She smiled back before biting her bottom lip a little.
When Leopold offered a hand to help her out the car, she happily obliged & followed him into the apartment. She politely greeted the doorman in return & then stepped into the elevator with Leo, her fingertips fidgeting with each other, her heart rate picking up a little. Why was she nervous all of a sudden? When the elevator door opened, she stepped out, her eyes widening slightly as she took in the surroundings. “Your apartments never fail to amaze me.” Amelia complimented him as she slowly looked around. “Do you never get lonely in something like this?”
*
Leo may have been many things, including a playboy, but it was always on equal terms on both parts, and he tried his best not to be a douchebag to the girls he dated or slept with. And whenever he messed up, his sister was more than happy to point it out to him and glare a good deal. There had been no need in this case, of course, and given that Amelia was willing to give him a second chance, his main focus was on not blowing it again.
Her response to his very roundabout way of asking her out had him chuckling, his head moving in a slow nod. “I deserve that, fair and square,” he admitted, more amused than anything else. “But I promise, no more disappearing acts.” The blush on her cheeks and the way she bit her lip was downright cute, and Leo was quickly being reminded of exactly how she’d managed to etch herself into his memory so well.
The elevator ride was rather quiet, but thankfully he didn’t perceive it as being an awkward silence. And then they reached the top floor, he turned the key to grant them access to his apartment. It was larger than his last one, and more carefully decorated, as he intended to keep this one longer than he’d kept the other. “Good, the day I fail to amaze, is the day I’ve grown boring,” he countered with a grin, but also a thankful bow of his head. Her question caused him to look around for a moment before he answered, feeling there was no need to lie. “I do, sometimes, but I’m never in the city long enough for that to be truly harrowing,” he admitted, then gestured her to go ahead. “Make yourself comfortable, love, and give me your order, I’ll be your very mediocre bartender.” he added with a grin as he walked over to what he called a liquor cabinet, but was actually more of a home bar.

Leopold was unlike any other man that she had met; he was charming, charismatic & just over all an interesting person to be around. Despite him vanishing & ghosting her all that time ago, he had left an impression on her & she found it hard to hold interest in any other men, none of them peaking her interest like the way Leo had. Amelia smiled when he explained that his liquor cabinet was at her full disposal & she was willing to take him up on that offer. His next comment made her chuckle, but the small laugh stopped quickly when he kissed her knuckles. “I swear to God, you’re out of a kid’s fairytale book.” Amelia teased with a smile, slowly pulling her hand away from his as she tried to ignore the butterflies in her stomach.
Amelia never expected her night to end like this but she wasn’t going to complain, Leopold was good company, he was going to supply her with good alcohol & no doubt, they would catch up over the lost time between their last encounter & now. The blonde relaxed back in her seat, her feet aching from her day of work. If she would have known that she was going to bump into Leo then she would have dressed up a little, but instead she was stuck in her black work dress, her black pumps & her hair a dishevelled mess in a ponytail. “You better not think this a date.” Amelia joked as she looked over at him as the car pulled up to an apartment that she assumed was his.
.
Leopold put more stress on the word honorable than most people realized. It was in his upbringing, but also in his nature, which was why he’d felt so bad about the disappearing act he’d pulled on her. It seemed, however, that he was going to get a chance to make it up to her, and he fully intended to. He couldn’t help laughing softly at her words, his smile playful as he responded jokingly, “Not quite a prince, though, I’m afraid.” He couldn’t remember how much he’d told her about himself during that first night, mostly because conversation had been a small portion of it. Not that he made an effort to hide who he was, but he didn’t flaunt it either, as a general rule.
It was an unexpected turn in his evening, but a welcome one; he wasn’t sure what the chances of bumping into her like this had been, but they must have been astronomical, so he decided to see this as a sign. Once again her words prompted a brief laugh, his head shaking slowly. “I wouldn’t dream of calling a trip to my liquor cabinet a date,” he assured her with a grin. “Maybe one of these days I’ll get a chance to show you what I call a proper date,” he continued with just the right hint of flirting in his smile. When the car stopped, the driver opened the door for them, and Leo offered the girl his hand to help her out of the car. The doorman greeted them politely when they walked in, and once in the elevator, Leo pressed the button to the top floor.

Sorry I’ve been sort of MIA, I’m in the process of maybe buying a new laptop. And it was not an expense I had foreseen tbh, so I have conflicting feelings about it. But yeah, I should be back soon.

Cecilia was grateful that the dancefloor at Skyline was always welcoming- the variety of characters that packed the place meant no one was too interested in what anyone else was doing, and that made it much easier to enjoy the music, and the moment, and her husband. She loved to dance, but she hated to feel aware of the fact that she was moving her body in public, and all of that seemed to melt away when she had James and the thumping of the music surrounding them. Her hands playfully pressed into his stomach, her hips moving with the beat, every move bringing their bodies closer together to the bass of the song. Their bodies came together to the hard, pulsing beat of the track the dj was playing and her hands found their way up from his stomach to just rest at his neck, smiling before she let her whole frame flatten into his while her lips found his again.
.
Had this been any other place, James would not have walked to the dancefloor that willingly, it would have taken a considerable amount of drinks to convince him. But there was something about this club that just felt like home - in a way, of course, it was, but it wasn’t just that. It was the place that had gifted him the love of his life, so how could he not prefer to basically all other clubs and bars? Somewhere else, he would have felt too old for this, or out of place, but not here, and he smiled at his wife as they started dancing. And it wasn’t long before she was pressed against him, his hands moving to rest on her hips as they moved to the beat of the music, his attention by now completely absorbed by her and the way she was moving against him.

Jackie was not the kind of person who needed to hear those words often; she understood them to be true in the way he treated her and the things they did together, but it still made her heart swell when he allowed the emotions to flow freely. It helped that they were delivered in his own way- with a curse word, especially. She smiled and tilted her head back again so she could look up at him, shaking her head playfully, “Such a softie, my husband.” The teasing words were quickly followed by a kiss to his cheek and her forehead tilting into his, so she could whisper to him, “I love you, too. You are the joy and astonishment of my life.” And she meant every word, nothing she could ever dream or write would come close to the fairy tale she felt like their love story was. She felt truly lucky to have somehow stumbled into something that others had to search for. Her hand roamed up from his stomach to rest at his chest and she said gently, “Let’s get the baby to sleep, I don’t think he wants to wake up to his auntie and uncle making out.”
.
Michael had spent so much of his life trying to hide and dissimulate his feelings, trying to appear as if he were made of unburdened ice, that now that he had yielded to recognizing he had actual real feelings, it had taken him some time to learn how to voice them. He still found it difficult, if he had to be honest, but Jackie had broken down that ice wall much faster than he could have ever predicted. “You’re the only human on the planet that gets to call me that, my wife,” he admitted with a warm smile. Hearing her words brought a warmth to his heart, and while it was familiar by now, he never ceased to be surprised at how strong it was. “You’ve always had a way with words.” And it was true, she’d been the only one who’d been able to spar with him on even ground when it came to quips and outwitting each other - and that had translated to softer and loveliest words as well. “Yeah, I think we shouldn’t traumatize the child,” he agreed with a soft laugh. He slowly got to his feet, careful to hold on to the baby so that he wouldn’t wake up.

“A bakery, huh? Did they let you make things or just assist?” Peter wasn’t sure whether he should imagine her elbows deep in dough, or just sweeping the floor while her parents worked. Either way, he could imagine her at a bakery, it definitely was an easier picture in his head than the club they were at now. “And I’m not just asking because I am wondering if you’ll be making me cookies,” he added with a laugh and then held his hands up, confessing, “I mean, the thought did immediately cross my mind. I’m a man, after all.” It almost sounded like he was confessing to something much more deviant than being on the receiving end of some cookies, but that was the fun in teasing her.
He finished his whiskey and drummed his fingers on the glass as he looked across at her, “I’m glad you’re alright with my plan. I promise, I will take you somewhere nicer next time. With more than twenty minutes notice, even. I mean, probably, you never know how these things will go.” He was planning a second date before the first, but he had a good feeling about the evening. He thought she was beautiful, and interesting, and he wanted to hear more about her writing, and what inspired her. He couldn’t imagine wanting to spend a single night with her.
.
“I had to work the counter, but I did pick up a few tricks,” Sarah responded, not really cherishing that memory as much as she wished she did. Her mom had made her work the front while she prepared the pastries and bread and cookies; which made sense, of course, her mother was the baker, but Sarah had hated that her job was to basically smile and welcome the very people who made her life in the town so hard. His words about cooking had her laughing softly, and she gave a small nod. “I’ll make you cookies, don’t you worry,” she reassured him, finding it adorable how he put the thought as if he’d just said something inappropriate. “I actually enjoy baking from time to time, so you’re in luck.” She usually baked and then let her roommate and friends just take care of the goods, because she liked making them more than she liked eating them, so finding out he was a candidate for cookie consumption was good news.
Wait, did he say next time? Sarah couldn’t help the sheepish smile on her lips as she busied herself with a glass that apparently really needed some polishing right then. "I told you, I’m not that fancy,” she reiterated with a sweet smile. “But I do appreciate the thought, very much.” It meant that not only he apparently liked her for real, but also that this impromptu invitation hadn’t been planned, probably. Which somehow made it even more romantic to her.

This wasn’t how she expected her night to go - if she had a list of things that she expected to happen after her shift, bumping into Leopold wouldn’t have been one of them. Amelia tried her best to forgive him for what happened the last time, especially after hearing his explanation for the disappearance, it really wasn’t his fault & besides, it was only a one night stand, she didn’t really expect much more than to be left alone the morning after.
“Some good things, some bad.” Amelia taunted him as buckled herself up & let her body relax into the soft leather seat, grateful to be off her feet properly for the first time since 9am. For a brief moment, the blonde thought about their night together & the memories came flooding back. She had definitely told her friends about the night they spent together in bed & that was all good things - the only complaint Amelia had about their encounter was the vanishing act, but she wouldn’t tell him that. She was honestly surprised that he remembered her name, it was nothing special or extraordinary like his name, had she really left that much of an impression when they first met?
Amelia was ready to tell the driver her address but couldn’t answer before Leo made his offer to her, the woman looking at him with a slightly surprised face. The young woman took her options into consideration; she could go home, order in pizza & slump onto the couch to watch Netflix, or she could take a chance with Leopold & go for a drink. “Y’know what, after the day that I’ve had, a drink is exactly what I need.” Amelia replied with a smile, tilting her head so that she could look over him. What was the worst that could happen? She could wake up in his bed alone again? “On one condition…” She fell silent for a few seconds to hold suspense before talking again, “Do you have good whiskey?”
Leo took it as a good sign when she didn’t call bullshit on his explanation, figuring that maybe she did believe him. He’d told her the truth, of course, but he wouldn’t have blamed her if she’d had trouble believing him after how their previous encounter had ended. At her mention of ‘good and bad things’ said about him, he laughed softly, knowing he fully deserved the latter. “Alright, fair enough, I feel like you’ve been generous enough by including the good parts,” he admitted with a clearly amused look. Of all the ways he’d expected his night to go, meeting up with her again had not been on the list, but now that it had happened, Leo couldn’t deny he was grateful for this second chance.
He could tell she was surprised by his remembering her name, and he thanked his good memory for it - although if pressed, he had to admit she’d left an impression on him. Whether it was because of the particular circumstances in which he’d had to leave her, or because of something else, he wasn’t quite sure yet. He waited as she thought over his offer, knowing they were both aware of the possible consequences of a drink at his apartment - they’d been through this before, after all. When she posed her condition, his best charming smile returned to his lips, knowing that was an easy request to fulfill. “Naturally,” he answered. “And my liquor cabinet is at your full disposal... at one condition,” he continued, teasing her with her own strategy. “That you do not think I’m just trying to get you drunk,” he concluded, taking her hand in his so he could place a kiss to her knuckles.

“How could I not remember a name like Leopold Hastings? It’s not exactly common.” Amelia laughed as she looked him over. He was still as handsome as the last time she seen him & part of her wished that he wasn’t, because how could she not forgive a handsome face like his? Upon hearing that he felt genuinely bad for deserting her at his apartment, she couldn’t help the small smile that appeared on her lips & the laugh that left her. “It does help a little.” She answered with a small laugh, crossing her arms over her chest to pull her jacket tighter, a brisk wind moving past them. “Besides, I’ve been left alone in worse apartments than yours after a one night stand, so that helps too.”
The blonde laughed as he called her dramatic, biting the inside of her cheek for a moment before speaking, “Not really. I mean, I woke up, you were gone. I tried to find you, I couldn’t. I tried to call the number you gave me, it didn’t work.” Amelia listed off what her memory could remember, a smile on her lips the whole time. “My friends legitimately thought I made you up. They still joke about ‘the one that got away never really existed’.” She laughed as she tucked a curl behind her hair. It was all true though, the morning after he left, it really was like he never existed & going back to apartment to try to find him, to find it up for sale truly made her feel insane.
Eyes looked over to the car that he pointed at & she took a second to consider her options; get in the car with the man that she knows next to nothing about & possibly get murdered, or wait at the side of the curb, hoping that she could flag down a taxi & possibly get murdered while she waited. Blue eyes moved between him & the car before she sighed softly in defeat, then nodding. “This isn’t going to make it up to me, but it’s a start.” Amelia smiled slyly at him before she started to walk towards the car, sliding over the back seat to also allow him in the car. “I remember your name, but do you even remember mine?”
*
“Fair point,” Leo admitted with a laugh when she pointed out how uncommon his name was; still, he took it as a good sign that she remembered it. Although it could have also been because he’d been as asshole to her. It appeared his apology had some kind of effect, her little smile telling him maybe he was on the right track. After all, it was true, he did feel bad. And not just because the sex had been good, but because he remembered her being a sweet girl who absolutely did not deserve to get ghosted that way. “That is... the opposite of comforting, but I’ll take it as attenuating circumstance,” he responded with a chuckle, shaking his head.
“I did give you my phone number,” he muttered, more to himself than to her. And then he remembered. “That phone got deactivated a couple of days later,” he admitted, his expression apologetic. “There was a break-in at my firm back in London - that’s why I left,” he explained a moment later, “And since there was a security breach, we all had to get new numbers, new phones, and all that.” He could have slapped himself for not having thought of that, but even if he had, there would have been no way to let her know. “Well, I’m ready to appear in front of your friends to testify to your sanity and the veracity of your story,” he offered jokingly. “As long as you only said good things to them about me .”
He waited as she made up her mind about whether or not to accept his offer, and when he did, he responded to her words with a charming smile. “It is but the beginning.” He followed her into the car, his driver not that surprised to see him leave with female company he’d never seen before. Once they were in the back seat, her question prompted a small laugh from him. “I’d never forget a pretty name like Amelia,” he responded smoothly. “Especially when it’s worn by such a beautiful girl.” The driver asked where to, and Leo took that chance to make yet another offer to the girl. "Would you think me terribly brazen if I offered you a drink at my new apartment?” he asked, then quickly added,” To continue on this journey of making it up to you.”

“Mm, I was kind of hoping you would say detective,” Cecilia admitted, very much over the idea of not having her hands on him. A younger Cecilia wouldn’t have hesitated and she decided to take her cues from that person she had been, her hands moving over the silky material of his shirt. If he complained, she would blame him anyway, the scheme queen could strike again. He shouldn’t have dressed so finely if he didn’t want his wife admiring him, it was as simple as that. “An extremely handsome detective, you’ll be hard to resist but I have no plans on confessing too easily,” she informed him with a little laugh, because it was a ridiculous made up scenario, but also because there was little chance that he wouldn’t have her singing his name by the end of the night. The dirty thought made her lean in for a heated kiss, her hands coming off of his chest to take hold of his tie, “Let’s dance,” she told him quietly, turning so her body just lightly pressed into his own form before she guided them to the dance floor.
Tumblr media
.
“Of course I said detective, detectives are allowed to frisk suspects, and you’re looking more and more suspect by the second, young lady,” James countered, ignoring how cheesy that line of flirting was. It was working, considering the way her hands slid up his chest, and at this point, there was a good chance his driver might have to put up the divider, unless he wanted a show. Because between her teasing, her touch and the dancing they’d be doing soon, James was pretty sure he wasn’t going to be able to keep his hands to himself on their ride home. “Oh, I have my ways of making you confess,” he promised, leaning closer to whisper the next part to her ear. “By the time I’m done with you, baby girl, you’ll be confessing crimes you’ve never committed.” Her kiss only sealed the urgency to get her somewhere he could really touch her, so he was more than happy to follow her cue and walk over to the dancefloor, her body pressing against him as enticing as the things he planned to do with her once they were alone.
