really tired of people saying Juliette is only interesting now
fight me bitches I don't even care! Juliette has been strong and complex and fantastic since S1. people need to expand their definition of "strong female character" if it means only one capable of murdering a manticore, and not one healthy enough to know not to accept a marriage proposal from someone keeping secrets from her. or someone willing to risk their life to save their partner despite a lack of physical skills. or someone who demands they be allowed agency and control of their own fate instead of other people deciding what's best for them. or any of countless other fantastic shit Juliette has done if y'all rewatched without your heads up your butts like come on my girl was ALWAYS the queen long before she could rip out throats

I understand your point but man do I have problem with this assessment.
As if the now-repetitive "I finally like Juliette she can't ever go back I'll hate her and she'll be boring again" both here and on Facebook isn't terrible enough, this is such a severe misunderstanding of the breadth of her CHARACTER development that its doing both this show and Bitsie Tulloch a disservice.
That's the literal status of her character in some cases, but that's not character development any more than getting a promotion is character development. It's only character development if it AFFECTS your CHARACTER.
Juliette didn't NEED to be protected in S1. That was Nick's mistake. If he had trusted her to be capable of taking care of herself and make the right decisions for herself a lot of pain and grief would be avoided. We SEE that when he finally DOES tell her in S3 and she is directly responsible for solving problems and saving lives.
Juliette wasn't a recovering victim in S2. She was only ever injured because of Nick's actions, and instead of accepting or wearing victimhood at all, she went looking for her own answers and demanded to be allowed to make her own choices about her mind and body and life.
Juliette was fully involved in S3 and now this is happening in S4 pretty akin to how you put it but I just think it's a tragedy to reduce her character to having EVER been a girlfriend or a victim.
Juliette was NEVER a girlfriend who needed protecting.
Juliette in S1 was a smart, capable, professional woman, who loved her partner and loved herself. She was strong enough emotionally and mentally to decline a marriage proposal when she knew the man she loved was keeping secrets from her and it would be an unhealthy start to a relationship, but stayed with him because she wanted to work on it and hoped he would trust her. When she walked in on an ogre of a man beating up her boyfriend and Nick told her to run, she only ran to get a weapon and fight him off. She punches her kidnapper in the face; she never once flinches from the risks Nick throws at her while they're happening, and she communicates honestly and healthily the entire time.
Juliette in S2 was even stronger. She faced growing insecurities about her mind and the people around her and who she could trust and she did it ALONE. She suffered because of Nick's actions and his lack of trust and refusal to allow her to know what was putting her at risk, patronizingly. She was sick of being treated like a child and she went to get her own answers. She sought out the truth unrepentantly even in the face of more mental manipulation from Adalind's spell and demanded it because she's an adult woman who gets to DECIDE what happens to her. She deserves better than that and she knows it, just like she did when she turned down Nick's proposal, and she demands it for herself.
Juliette in S3 is thrust now into a world she could never have imagined, but she's by Nick's side. She's always SMILING at him in the trailer. God, she's thrilled he wants her there, to be there with him. To become best friends with Rosalee and Monroe and sit at dinner with them and Hank, raising Trubel for a few strange weeks and enjoy this weird, bizarre life, even with its forays into violence.. except for the gutting realizations of how real it is, how dangerous it is, and of course what happens next....
S4 Juliette is much more than the badass hexenbiest incarnation of a protagonist's S1 girlfriend. She's at no point "girlfriend" even as a trope, because how many trope girlfriends decline a proposal with such an articulated healthy explanation; demand their agency with such fierceness, run for weapons instead of the door? It just makes me cringe to see anyone takes "victim" from her S2 arc where she finds her own cure and demands the right to her own fate.
S4 Juliette is hardening resolve out of uncertainty. She has chosen this world already when she chose for Nick to take his Grimm mantle back up which I think predicts her choosing to keep this new identity. She knows WHAT this world takes- what its costs are- and is bracing herself for them.
But strong? She was ALREADY strong. Only now she is quietly embracing that her physical strength matches the mental strength she's had from day one. But I don't think she was ever a girlfriend who needed protecting. That's what Nick thought, and she showed him wrong.
Her character development is much more than her physical strength, and (to everyone saying they only like her now) so too should her appeal be.

Valentines Day coordinate! Chris and I are going to 401 Games in the morning for a modern MTG tournament, then to Nathan Philips Square for some skating. After that we’ll head over to La Palette for some French fine dining and stop by Butter Avenue for some macarons!
