A brief note on the meaning of the name Baptiste.
Tumblr media
Like many other characters in the universe Overwatch, Baptiste has the so-called "Charactonym". That is, his name characterizes his character, expands his understanding of, or focuses on some of its important features. Many have noticed that his name seems to refer us to the religious movement Baptism. But it is not so.
The full name of the hero sounds like Jean-Baptist Augustine. Jean is the French form of the name John. A Baptiste comes from the Greek βαπτίζω - "immersed in water" and is traditionally given in conjunction with the name John. That is, the name sends us not to Baptism, but, if I may say so, to the original source - John the Baptist. John called for repentance, for rejection of sinful living and cleansing by means of baptism. That fully echoes the story of the hero, where he joined the Talon, but later repented and abandoned this path.
But that's not all. His last name is also not accidental. Augustin is a reference to the Augustine of Hippo. An eminent Christian theologian who also came to faith through the doctrine of pardon, the forgiveness of sins. However, it is interesting that Augustine made a significant contribution to the so-called "Just war theory". He argued that a person as part of the state (which exists to protect order and law) should not be ashamed of protecting peace and punishing evil (we are talking about the commandments "thou shalt not kill" and the question of participation in the war).
The essence of the choice of the name of the hero: changing yourself and giving up the past wrong lifestyle, but also the ability to stand up for yourself and protect others. Baptiste - combat medic.
By the way, in his story he says something like: "Someone is waiting for salvage, and someone is a bullet. Today, I give you a choice."
Either repent or die.
PS: It is worth noting that John the Baptist was the forerunner of Christ, and Augustine one of the founders of dogmatic worship (modern Orthodoxy and Catholicism). But whether it will play a role in his fate is a moot and open question.

The meaning of Moira’s surname
Moira O’Deorain
Ó Deoráin means “descendant of Deoradhán”.
Deoradhán is an irish male name meaning “exile, wanderer”
On Oasis, Moira says “This is now my home, as much as any other”.
She’s been exiled from Overwatch and from the mainstream scientific community by her peers after the Venice Incident and she is now a wanderer, willing to work for whoever is able to provide for her and fund her research. She doesn’t feel any strong connection to Oasis, she could leave the place without regrets, she’s in Oasis because they allow her there, want her there. She’s a drifter. Her work comes first.
Nice one Blizzard :)

Michael Chu: And so [Ashe] convinced young Jesse McCree and two other nameless people here to found the Deadlock Gang.  And so her idea was the Deadlock Gang can go out there, we’re gonna go bigger and bigger heists, we’re gonna make our names out there.
In case people weren’t sure, yes, that is Jesse McCree on the right of Ashe in the picture.  He was one of the “four founders” of the Deadlock Gang.

I’m sure this already exists somewhere, but I’m too lazy to search. Edit: Alright, I just did a search of this text and only like a few results exist, so cool.

Want to know the height of some overwatch hero but can only find “height: unknown”? I spent my whole weekend working on a height comparison. In each group there’s a golden 7’1”: Reaper, Soldier: 76, McCree and Brigitte. Results may not be very accurate due to different poses, heel height, hats and hairstyles. Hope you like it.
(Note: since I’m very new to blender, there’re some annoying problems I can’t figure out such as Pharah and Ana’s skin color and Symmetra’s transparent clothes. If you happen to know why plz tell me I’ll appreciate it!)

May I interest you in the knowledge that Jesse McCree has most definitely been to prison at some point in his life before joining blackwatch, and its evidenced in the way he addresses Gabriel
Hrm. I am certainly intrigued.
But I’m not sure what to look for in his diction, so you’re gonna have to elaborate.

A couple hours late but I just saw you saying how Jesse and Fareeha are more inverses of each other and I completely agree! I personally see Sombra and Jesse as more paralleled, and would be interested in hearing your thoughts on that idea? You tend to be very well-spoken and are good at analyzing concepts, I've come to notice.
in reference to this post… from months ago
Lucky for you, I was thinking about Jesse and Sombra the night before you sent this! Deadlock and Los Muertos, actually, but I’ll get to that. I absolutely agree that the two of them make much more direct parallels than Jesse and Fareeha, who are interesting as a pair in their own right but they aren’t direct parallels.
I often joke that Gabe adopted the same child twice: smart-talking, hyper-competent Latine who tote around skull logos and are from gangs with the word “dead” in their names. It’s a joke—I don’t consider Gabe’s relationship with Sombra to be that of a parent-child, for one thing—but I believe that Jesse and Sombra are very similar regardless.
They both have similar backgrounds: joined local gangs at a very young age and earned later membership into a high-level covert organization through resourcefulness and an admirable natural aptitude in a specific desired skillset. Although both at first look to be unserious and overly laid-back, they prove themselves to be precision operators who indeed execute plans and achieve goals with immense gravity. They’re both supremely confident in their abilities, to the point that one can accuse them of having too high an opinion of themselves and being overconfident.
They come from similar backgrounds, having been orphaned during the Crisis and suffered under economic disparity driven by infrastructure changes in the rebuilding period. They both similarly drop off the map and resurface under new identities. They both have a deep concern in seeing done a justice that is beyond the reach of the law—or when the law refuses to deliver it.
All this, and more, under the cut. The post is very long.
I would also like to thank @segadores-y-soldados for all he’s written, especially on Sombra and especially recently. I make heavy reference to his writing on Sombra in certain portions of this post. I also must admit that reading his posts on Arturito has motivated me to finish this after three months of slow progress, though I still have a nagging feeling I’m forgetting a point.

I have long wanted to make a note about this comic book, and here's the right moment. There are a lot of hidden details that open great prospects. And I have not seen anyone speak about it yet.
First, the person who meets the Soldier: 76 - this is Hakim.
Tumblr media
This character, appears in one single episode only to die (about which I will say later).
Why can I say that?
There are several reasons for this. Hakim's compound consists of two zones: the outer courtyard, where there is a guard, and the courtyard, where there is a house, a swimming pool and other amenities. The inner courtyard is separated by a massive door, when the entrance to the outer courtyard consists only of a barrier.
Tumblr media
In the outer courtyard of Soldier: 76 eliminated about twenty people. But in the inner territory he is met only by two people.
In a conversation that Jack overheard, too, only two are involved: Reaper and Hakim.
Tumblr media
When Soldier: 76 breaks into the internal territory, there he neutralizes only one and seeks the second. And if the second is Reaper, then it is logical to assume that the first is Hakim.
Tumblr media
But Jack does not find Reaper, since Reaper was already waiting for him. As it was correctly noted, the camera hangs at the entrance. Reaper works with Sombra, and she is easy to observe the perimeter, just as she did in “INFILTRATION”. And they certainly have their own, private channel for communication. Do not forget that Gabriel Reyes is a professional military man. It will not be difficult for him to explain to the interlocutor that they have "guests" by means of gestures. And the end of the conversation, is built to show that Reaper knows that Soldier: 76 is coming to them.
Tumblr media
Whether Jack noticed the camera or not is not important. But I do not think that his visor has seen Reaper.
Tumblr media
Even though the visor in the short film runs across the entire visible surface,
Tumblr media
in the game it is limited to the central circle and certainly not able to peer behind the back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A similar icon can simply mean "search".
Tumblr media
But I was distracted :)
All the fun is on this page.
Tumblr media
Namely on 3 and 6 frames.
On the third frame in front of Soldier: 76 Hakim is on his knees and later we will see him only at the end of the comic book, lying on the ground.
Tumblr media
Note that Gabriel shoots from the top down and slightly to the side. His shotguns have a wide range. So if he shoots on the tangent, only a couple of pellets will fall into Jack's back. Such a shot would not kill him exactly, but would put him out of action ... however, Hakim's unprotected head awaits a completely different fate.
Tumblr media
Yes, we can assume that Jack fell from the blow to him and knocked him down. But then Hakim would be lying on his back. And at least, by the end of the mess, he should have come to himself.
All this is not at all like an accident. And especially considering this conversation:
Tumblr media
He pulls "WELL ..." as if thinking about what to do next. And further words, they say about making a decision.
But why does he kill Hakim?
Because he is an extra witness for what's going on.
On the absurd and useless hand-to-hand fight between Soldier: 76 and Reaper written a lot. So I will not go into it. And just to remind you that Reaper preferred to escape, although at the moment of Ana's confusion he could easily turn the fight in his favor.
I just want to draw attention to this scene in addition:
Tumblr media
There are certain rules of composition in comics. And the movement from top to bottom and to the right is evidence of a move into the future. "ALWAYS WILL" - just screaming that everything is ahead.
Also, the subsequent dialogue does not at all indicate a desire for murder. The shotgun introduces into confusion, but this is only a deterrent and a threat to the impulsive Jack.
Tumblr media
At one time, this comic finally convinced me that Gabriel was not very eager to kill Jack. Who knows what would have happened if Ana had not interfered? Perhaps he just wanted to talk to him...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some interesting details in the “Old Soldiers” comic:
1. There is a camera above Soldier: 76 before he enters the compound, meaning Reaper and Hakim (and possibly Sombra) know he’s there.
2. They also see him take the comms device, so Reaper knows Soldier: 76 is listening to their conversation.
3. Soldier: 76 recognizes “Reaper” from his voice alone.
4. Even knowing Reaper and Hakim have “set a trap”, Soldier: 76 enters the compound anyways.
5. Soldier: 76’s Tactical Visor “sees” Reaper shadow stepping in behind him. While it is difficult to account for “reflexes” in a static comic, there is the very real possibility that Soldier let Reaper shoot him.
All of this is because Soldier: 76 (and possibly Reaper) already knows who “The Shrike” is. Both men are trying to draw the Shrike out from hiding. While Reaper claims to be doing this to help Hakim, a Talon associate, both his actions (combined with what we know from “Retribution”) and Soldier’s actions are rather suspicious here.

Red String OW Conspiracy Stuff: Rialto
AKA “speculation ideas that don’t really have a ton of evidence for but are entertaining to think about anyways.”
Tumblr media
1. The reason the Talon armory doesn’t have Gatling guns in the Rialto armory for the new Heavy Assault Units is because Soldier: 76 destroyed their newest supply from Los Muertos.
Tumblr media
So far, this is the only non-Bastion and non-Heavy Assault Gatling gun we’ve seen.
Tumblr media
2. The Talon council room in Rialto (final Defenders’ spawn) loosely matches the description of the final room in “The Masque of the Red Death.”
Tumblr media
There were seven –an imperial suite. […]These windows were of stained glass whose color varied in accordance with the prevailing hue of the decorations of the chamber into which it opened. That at the eastern extremity was hung, for example, in blue –and vividly blue were its windows. The second chamber was purple in its ornaments and tapestries, and here the panes were purple. The third was green throughout, and so were the casements. The fourth was furnished and lighted with orange –the fifth with white –the sixth with violet. The seventh apartment was closely shrouded in black velvet tapestries that hung all over the ceiling and down the walls, falling in heavy folds upon a carpet of the same material and hue. But in this chamber only, the color of the windows failed to correspond with the decorations. The panes here were scarlet –a deep blood color.
[…] And thus were produced a multitude of gaudy and fantastic appearances. But in the western or black chamber the effect of the fire-light that streamed upon the dark hangings through the blood-tinted panes, was ghastly in the extreme, and produced so wild a look upon the countenances of those who entered, that there were few of the company bold enough to set foot within its precincts at all.

Tal Pai, Tal Filho
A write-up and discussion on the new Lúcio story revelations, interactions between Lúcio, Symmetra, and Doomfist, and Vishkar’s role in Talon and the larger world of Overwatch, and speculation on Sanjay Korpal
Tumblr media
Mercy: Lúcio, I never realized your father was the one who made Vishkar’s sonic technology! Lúcio: The core tech was his life’s work, owned and patented by Vishkar…but it’s mine now. (Note: in another post, I incorrectly wrote “core tech” as “cortex” whoops)
— Lúcio: Vishkar’s using you - just like they used my father!  …You just wait - you’ll see. Symmetra: Your father was a Vishkar employee.  He understood our company’s vision…a shame he never educated you.
Doomfist: Symmetra, I am familiar with your work.  I look forward to seeing it in person. Symmetra: My purpose is to create order.  You are the embodiment of chaos.
Symmetra: Doomfist, you are mistaken - only with order can humanity evolve! Doomfist: Order…chaos… means to an end.
Important to this discussion: a review of the companies and corporations in the world of Overwatch.  A major thematic element in Overwatch’s story - and an increasingly large plot point - is the back-and-forth discussion on if a megacompany or megacorporation can ever truly be ethical (on the large scale), and how their actions affect individuals (for example, Satya Vaswani in Vishkar, or Fareeha Amari in Helix).  Almost every known company and corporation in Overwatch engages in (or is implied to engage in) unethical actions, either for profits or to protect corporate secrets.
The Sombra ARG focused very heavily on LumériCo, and while LumériCo will never be completely “irrelevant” to the plot or world of Overwatch, two other companies - Helix Securities and the Vishkar Corporation - have “taken over” as more active elements in the immediate plot.  Vishkar directly has ties to the Talon organization, through Sanjay Korpal:
Tumblr media
Now, we don’t know if Sanjay is present in Talon for his own personal interests, or if he is “representing” Vishkar in some sort of capacity.  However, he consistently wears his Vishkar uniform, which means he either doesn’t care that other Talon members recognize which company he works for, or his association with Vishkar is more important than a sense of “personal style” (which is…actually saying a lot for a Talon member, lol).
Vishkar has always been a major player in two characters’ lives: Satya Vaswani (Symmetra), who is employed by Vishkar as a “hard light architech” (spelled correctly, lol) and who works directly under Sanjay’s management, and Lúcio Correia dos Santos, a musician-turned-freedom fighter who “stole” the Sonic Amplifier and hard light skates from Vishkar’s new building in Rio de Janeiro and used them to rally members of his neighborhood to drive Vishkar out.
Several massive revelations about Lúcio, Symmetra, Vishkar, and Talon were dropped in the May 22, 2018 update to Overwatch.  You can find the majority of the new voicelines here.
(More under the cut!)

New Pregame Interactions Masterpost
Anniversary added a bunch of new ones and I’m trying to find them all. I know If there are any others I’m missing, let me know! I’ll update this. Also a lot of these are from @agenthill or sent to me by @kinaesthetiq– thanks you two <3 **Edit 1: Updated with Zarya & Junkrat and Orisa & McCree interactions (thank you @tankdyke for the former, and Kina for still being on the grind!) People in the comments have said they’ve heard a variant of the Ana line with Tracer, a Symmetra & Doomfist interaction, and a Symmetra & Hanzo interaction, so if you have the transcript for any of those, please lmk! **Edit 2: @sombrashair got me Sombra’s half of a Sombra & Bastion interaction and possibly a whole Sombra & Pharah one, as well as Pharah’s half of a Pharah & Tracer, Pharah & Soldier: 76, and Pharah & Ana interaction. If anyone has the other halves of those, or confirmation on the Sombra & Pharah one, that would be awesome! In any case, thank you so much Lauren for my whole entire life <3 Also, putting this under a cut now, because it’s getting long.
**Edit 3: @sombrashair with mvp status getting me the other side of the Pharah & Ana interaction, as well as some Moira & Winston ones! Also @pointblankerror sent me the other half of the Pharah & Soldier interaction– thank you! Interactions that have been requested and completed have been strike through’d, the remaining bold ones are ones that I still need!
**Edit 4: Lauren got me (possibly) the other half of Ana & Tracer’s interaction and the other half of Tracer & Pharah’s, and @fearlessstateofmind came through with a bunch of really cool ones! Also @datnoise sent me a Genji and Zarya interaction. You guys are so awesome, thank you so much <3
**Edit 5: I am now legally required to buy @sombrashair a fruit basket. A bunch of Doomfist & Symmetra interactions have been added thanks to her, plus an adorable Orisa & Tracer one. @agenthill also confirmed the Ana & Tracer one and Pharah & Sombra one, as well as helped me narrow down a Doom interaction– thank you!! However, a Doomfist & Hanzo interaction and a Doomfist & Ana or Soldier: 76 interaction are incomplete. If you know these, the previous non struck through bold ones, or any ones we’re missing, please lmk!
**Edit 6: While I was at work, Lauren and a bunch of other people sent me more, so this is adding a lot! @theomnicode, @kinaesthetiq, and @crystallisedrain all sent in quotes– thank you guys! Also Doomfist & Hanzo has been completed and some lines have been corrected. We’re missing Orisa’s half of an Orisa & Genji interaction, and commenter also said that there was been a Brigitte & Pharah interaction (@fearlessstateofmind sent me what could be the Pharah side– thank you!) But as of now that, the other half of the Sombra & Bastion one, and the Symmetra & Hanzo one are the only ones I know are missing.
**Edit 7: So right after I posted the last edit, I went to discord and saw the Hammeh video. That video does not have the rest Orisa & Genji interaction, or the Brigitte & Pharah one, but it does have some new ones that weren’t mentioned in the comments. We have the Junkrat & Genji interaction, the variants on Ana’s line, and a Doomfist line he didn’t, but I’m wiped and can’t be entirely sure if this list has any more the video doesn’t. In any case, I think it’s worth having transcriptions of them, so I’m going to keep it up and add the ones that weren’t on here before. Unless we get the missing ones mentioned, this should be the last update. Thank you so much to everyone who helped, especially @sombrashair, who did a ton of mining for this!
