Tonight your mind was strangely silent, without dreams or nightmares. As if you fell asleep and minutes later you woke up. It didn't look like you had really slept.
Your body ached, your head throbbed, and you were twice as tired as the day before. You woke up with a jolt; your body was sounding and you were somewhat out of breath.
You didn't have nightmares tonight.
You sat in your hammock, running your hands over your face to ward off the agony you felt. It was even more suffocating not knowing the beginning of this sensation.
You let out a sharp sigh, your hearing straining to hear anything at all. Your Marui was silent and your heart was turbulent. As you looked down, you were able to see how new your bandage looked. Had Kiri changed it while you were sleeping?
Had everyone else gotten up? Why didn't they wake you up?
Putting your foot down slowly, you got out of your hammock and began to look around the Marui to find any known relatives.
You felt nauseous, the feeling that something might happen at any moment. As if someone very bad would come along.
You didn't dream anything tonight.
And yet your heart was telling you that something was happening, something very bad was happening.
You slowly stuck your head out of the Marui, hesitant to leave. But then…
"You woke up!"
"Eywa!!" You jumped in fright, your heart hammering in your chest. You bent over taking a deep breath as you realized it was only little Tuk.
For a few seconds you almost ended up with Eywa.
"Tuk, you shouldn't scare the others like that." You recovered slightly, taking a deep breath to calm your heartbeat. You then realized how sweaty you were with small drops running down your back.
You needed a shower.
"Sorry." She said shyly. Soon after, as if he had already forgotten what just happened, Tuk starts pulling you by the arm out of the Marui. "The sun is good today, let's go to the waterfall!"
"Wha- I just got up Tuk." You tried to go against it, but the little one was doing her best to pull you along. You found the effort admirable.
"Come on. You promised you would go with me when you were free and now you're off duty!" She said in a whiny voice, the voice that always convinced you and her older brothers. It was low blow.
"I'm off duty? You know, I'm still hurt." Even though you were countering in your words, you gave up denying the idea and started walking beside the bouncing girl toward the forest.
"Kiri said the ointment has helped enough, you won't feel as much pain as yesterday."
You nodded. So Kiri really had taken care of your wound while you were sleeping. What a petty girl, always thinking that you would run away from her care.
You let out a chuckle at the thought.
"Did you ask your Sempul or your Sa'nok for permission?", you asked beforehand. If this was a small escape from the girl, it was likely that you would have to carry her back.
"Yes! Sa'nok just said to be careful and come back before the eclipse." She said proudly as she already had everything prepared. You rolled your eyes at how committed she was when it came to outings, but gave the little girl a warm smile.
"Well, then the waterfall awaits us."
You and Tuk walked for a moment, until finally you reached the big pond. It was one of the most beautiful lagoons in the place, and was a thousand times more majestic at night, when its bottom was illuminated by luminescence.
A large waterfall was at the edge of the lagoon, hiding a cave behind it, where there was a small "pool".
The place was quiet and it was great to relax. You spent a lot of your day there – at least in your free time – so it could be considered your "secret" hideout to get away from problems. But well, staying there didn't mean you got too close to the lake or went in.
You did your best to avoid it.
As you approached the lake, Tuk quickly let go of your hand and began to run to the large body of water, taking small jumps while letting out cries of joy.
You let out a surprised laugh at the girl and warned her: "Tuk, be careful! Don't be hasty. I don't want to have to carry you home on the way back."
"Okay! Now come, quick!"
The truth is, you didn't want to go in. The plan was for you to sit in the shade of the tree and watch Tuk from a distance. It wasn't bad, it was actually relaxing and you enjoyed it.
But you were sweaty and deep down you still had that feeling you had when you woke up. The ice water could help your mood (or make it worse) and certainly on the edge wouldn't be dangerous, right?
You let out a shaky sigh, giving in to the girl's will and your own need. You walked to the pond and slowly stepped into the water. You woke up on fire, body sweating and a horrible feeling, nothing better than ice cold water to relieve it.
Tuk began to swim and throw water everywhere, like the lively child that she is. Meanwhile, you sank your head into the water, staying there for a few seconds and then surfacing again, breathing in the fresh, warm air of the day. Even so you found yourself glued to the edge, not risking going any further into the lake.
You ran your hand across your face to get some of the water off, and then saw Tuk a little further away. "Tuk, near me."
Tuk made a disgruntled grimace, but still obeyed and moved back in close.
Her body was grateful for the soothing water, her tense muscles loosening. But your mind couldn't say the same thing. You were somewhat distressed, and your heart was a little faster.
You would like to forget what happened in the past.
Two years ago.
"Lo'ak, wait for me!", you said breathlessly, trying to keep pace with Lo'ak and Spider. Kiri was a little behind you, also giving it her all to run as fast as the boys.
"We don't have time to waste, come soon!", Lo'ak shouted ahead, anxious for them to reach the long-awaited location.
Spider and Lo'ak quickly arrived at the lake. You and Kiri right behind, panting and tired. Spider was the oldest there, but you were the most responsible, so you had to take care of everyone.
Mainly due to the fact that you left without permission.
You didn't agree with this idea at first, because you knew that Jake would skin you for it. But Lo'ak knows very well how to convince others, like a true pest. So here you are now.
"Bro, that's awesome! Let's go!" Spider said excitedly slapping Lo'ak on the back, which excited the boy even more.
The two of them ran excitedly to the water, jumping into the lake like "cannonballs", as Jake used to call them.
You let out an incredulous laugh as Kiri rolled her eyes at the boys' idiocy. You always admired the animated energy that covered the two of them, it always amused you. So to keep up, you also ran and did exactly like them.
Kiri pouted when she realized you left her too and went after the two goofballs. Even so, she went into the lake to accompany the rushing ones, entering more cautiously compared to you.
You were all eager to get to the lake, but Jake always arranged tasks to keep you busy. But this time the escape worked out well. At least until Neytiri scolded you and grounded you.
But this is a consequence. For now, enjoying the day was most important.
Spider and Lo'ak started a little fight between them, while you and Kiri enjoyed the perfect water temperature.
But Lo'ak as an energetic child soon started to get bored of just swimming around. And since Spider shares the same messy spirit with his best friend, the two decided to start climbing a part near the waterfall.
"Whoever gets to the top first wins!" Spider yelled, starting to climb first to gain the upper hand on his friend.
"Bro, that doesn't count!" With his longer legs, Lo'ak began to climb right behind Spider, getting close to him. The two were giving it their all in this competition.
Kiri called them an idiot and you let out a laugh. Maybe it would be cool to participate as well.
"Okay, wait for me, I'll come too." You're excited about the new competition. As you and Lo'ak became best friends, growing very close to each other these last few years, Lo'ak shared with you the spirit of the explorer.
Couple this with the fact that before you met them, you were a lonely child, cowering in your own corner, with only the small happiness that your mother's friendship provided... when you discovered the true face of the world you lived in, you opened up.
At any opportunity you wanted to go out and explore the outside world. Going on adventures with the Lo'ak, even if it got you a lot of scolding, most notably Neteyam snapping his beak at you, saying it wasn't good to go the idiotic path of Lo'ak.
But a lot of the time you didn't care. You just wanted to experience new things, to live as you should have always lived. To show the happiness you should have shown when your mother was still alive.
You, Lo'ak and Spider have now begun to climb quickly and competitively. If there is one thing that is certain, it is that you don't want to lose for anything, and this is something that Kiri hates about you. You make yourselves three times worse when you are competing, often making mistakes here and there.
Lo'ak managed to pass Spider with his agility and superior height, making the human boy not happy at all.
"Damn, that's not fair!"
Lo'ak laughed as he continued in his progress. "Eat dust."
You, on the other hand, since you started climbing after the two of them, were much further down. But you wouldn't give up so easily.
You had never climbed so fast in your life. You were doing your best to reach the two above. Your arms were starting to ache slightly from the effort, your legs tingled. But this was always present in their competitions, where the three of them gave as much sweat and blood as possible to win.
Neytiri wanted to rip your heads off for that.
"I am going-" You were going to announce your approach to where Spider was and brag that at least you wouldn't be last...
When you miscalculated your stride.
Due to being close to the waterfall, the rocks you were climbing were slippery. This was mainly bothering Spider, who with his members not prepared for this, was having more difficulty.
In one of the steps you took, your foot slipped and, in desperation, you tried to grab somewhere.
But it wasn't fast enough.
You fell from the high place you were standing on, straight into the lake below. You had already climbed quite a bit considering the speed... so the fall was too big.
The way you landed in the lake, you hit your head on a rock and most of your back. The blow to the head knocked her out instantly. Unconscious, the currents caused by the waterfall took you across the lake.
Kiri let out a desperate scream when she saw you fall and promptly went to try to help you, but the part where you fell was too deep.
"Ah, Great Mother! Lo'ak, help me!!"
"What-" Lo'ak and Spider had not realized your fall, until they heard Kiri's agonizing cries. Lo'ak looking down and not finding you, made him understand the whole situation quickly. His heart sank. "No…"
Lo'ak began to descend from where he was, as fast as he did to ascend. Reaching a certain point, a safe place, he jumped directly into the lake to come to you.
It was a scary moment for mere children.
You shake your head to push the memories away. Letting out a sigh, you walked out of the lake after you had already refreshed yourself. You sat in a tree a little closer to the shore, just to keep an eye on Tuk.
You cowered, resting your chin on your knee as you hugged your legs.
That day, Lo'ak and Spider managed to catch you and get you on dry land, but you were not breathing.
Kiri performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on you, even though she was inexperienced. In addition, you also had bleeding from the back of your head, not to mention the countless scratches all over your body.
Lo'ak and Spider went for help. Any soul there that could help would be most appreciated.
They were lucky that Eywa was merciful. In a desperate search, Lo'ak found Jake and Neteyam in their usual training and then they brought him to you with a shaky voice and tears all over his face.
In the end everything worked out fine. With Kiri having given you first aid, Jake immediately took you to Mo'at.
You could have died that day, so it was not a good memory to keep for life. It left you with a great fear of water. A trauma to carry. And that was very sad, because when everybody else came to have fun, you only minimally touched the water. So you always remained cowering in your own corner, enjoying the fun of others.
The four of you were punished afterwards, one of the biggest scoldings you ever took. Even so, one night you heard Neytiri crying beside you, praying to Eywa and thanking her for not taking a child from her.
You couldn't hold your tears that night… you were afraid.
Lo'ak and Spider felt guilty. Even Kiri couldn't forgive herself for something like that.
But you always insisted that it wasn't the fault of any of the three of them. However, the sad look in their eyes as they noticed your hesitation near a large body of water made your heart ache.
And Neteyam, he became two, three... thousand times more protective. After overcoming that episode, he started to always keep an eye on you. Also making sure his siblings were more caring and responsible.
Even though you rolled your eyes at this behavior, you were secretly smiling at the way he stayed next to you when you returned to the lake, whether it was to accompany Tuk or to go hunting for fish.
You cracked a small smile now at the sweet memory making itself present, which entailed that you did not notice the new presence approaching.
"Sa'nok told me you would be here."
"Oh, my God! Neteyam!", you let out a scream, putting your hand to your chest to calm your heart. "What's wrong with you Sullys scaring me?"
Neteyam let out a laugh at your reaction and you rolled your eyes dumbly. You leaned your head against the tree trunk, taking a deep breath. Neteyam still let out small silent chuckles, but soon covered his mouth when he noticed her infuriated look.
Neteyam cleared his throat, finally settling his composure. "You've been spending too much time with Lo'ak, you're picking up on the expressions father uses." He pauses. "Well… are you and Tuk going to be here much longer?"
You look at Tuk for a while, but finally look away to Neteyam. "We've been here a while, we'll probably be back soon. Why?"
Neteyam's lips stretched into a small mischievous smile. Oh. You knew that smile like the back of your hand.
"What do you think about a little competition today?"
You let out a laugh. "All of a sudden? Isn't the great warrior here extremely busy for silly things like that?"
Neteyam grimaced, which resulted in even more laughter from you. "That day I was really busy, okay? And I didn't say it was silly."
"Your expression seemed to say."
Neteyam snapped his beak and you gave his shoulder a little push to make him angrier. "Okay, okay. I'm in." You admitted. "Ikran run?"
Neteyam's sullen expression was soon replaced by one of defiance. To that expression that was always present in the moments when you allowed yourselves to take advantage of everyday games. For a moment you thought you were a kid again.
"Ikran run."
You and Neteyam stayed a few more minutes with Tuk at the lake, but soon returned home. Tuk had stayed with Neytiri now, and apparently Lo'ak, Kiri, and Spider were off on another one of their adventures.
But you and Neteyam were picking some fruits at Neytiri's request. This task would have to be done quickly if you wanted to have time for the challenge.
You went towards a tree laden with freshly ripened fruit. These needed special care at harvest time because they were extremely fragile; if not done correctly, they turned sour. And you, as someone who has done this many times before, took on the role.
Neteyam in this case didn't have much experience in that area. So he crouched next to you to help with whatever was needed. He gets a little embarrassed for not doing anything. "Hm... I- isn't there anything I can do?", he scratches the back of his head awkwardly.
With the stem of the fruit in one hand and a knife in the other, you delicately cut the connection, holding the fruit as gently as possible. Successfully, you put one more fruit in the basket.
These fruits were boring to pick precisely because of all the necessary caution, however, it is one of the most appreciated fruits in its clan. Its texture was on point and it was very sweet but not cloyingly sweet.
You glance at Neteyam before moving on to the next fruit and applying the same procedure as before.
"Can't you be quiet just for a moment? Let me do it, I'm almost done."
Neteyam sighed scratching his head as he nodded slightly. He always became impatient as he stood and watched. That wasn't his job. You thought that was funny, so you liked to tease him from time to time.
But despite your insistence that he wanted to do something, Neteyam listened to what you said and just waited beside you. He found himself intrigued by the agile yet delicate way you handled the fruit. Your hands were delicate, but fierce when necessary.
Neteyam looked away at you for a few seconds. Carefully watching her concentrated face.
Many years had passed since that day he first saw you and certainly a lot had changed. You were still young, you had a lot of maturing to do. But… you had obviously already changed.
Your features had matured, however far from mature as an adult. You had grown, and your body was beginning to develop. Often it takes notice of the way it observes every part of your body or the way you act. Not in a negative or malicious way, no.
He simply began to see how each day you seemed more beautiful. He noticed the way time was transforming you into a woman, a flawless warrior.
He shook his head to dispel those thoughts. He had to stop getting that way whenever he looked at you.
Looking away shyly, he licked his parched lips and asked: "You… were you okay at the lake with Tuk?"
You stopped what you were doing for a few seconds, your ears twitching slightly. But soon you collected yourself and came back with your agile and calculated movements. "Yes. I even went in a little bit. Right on the edge, but I did. That's a step, isn't it?"
Neteyam looked at you with a serious look now. When it came to her fear of water, this was an area that Neteyam usually handled very carefully. He knew that even though Tuk knew of your fear, she often called you to go with her either because she had no one else to accompany her… or mostly because Tuk loved spending the day with you.
And you often found yourself unable to refuse.
"Of course it is. But I already told you not to force yourself to go just to do Tuk's bidding. Call me when she wants to go." Neteyam said in a firm voice, but not scolding or angry. But worried.
You admired this concern he had, you felt special... but also guilty. Neteyam already had so many things to worry about and deal with, so many tasks and responsibilities. You would just be another weight being placed on his back and you definitely didn't want that.
"You are often busy and Tuk said that going every time with Lo'ak and Kiri is becoming boring. So what's wrong with me doing this will of hers? I'm fine."
Neteyam frowned, searching her gaze. "Don't pretend you're fine."
"Isn't that just what you do?"
Silence. An awkward silence that suddenly made the air heavy between the two of you. You didn't want to explode like that, not really. But you felt useless and foolish for making others worry about an idiocy like your fear. For not being able to do something simple.
You were frustrated.
Even so, you shouldn't have said that to Neteyam. You are aware of the way he struggles to make everyone satisfied, happy; and you know the way he gets when he's told that, even if it's the truth.
You just resented the way he pretended to be always well to please everyone, the way he hurt himself to do it. His telling you not to lie about such made you indignant. He was a thousand times worse than you in that respect.
You looked away from Neteyam, your ears now cocked. You swallowed hard and got up with the basket of fruit in your hand. "I'm sorry. I... let's go back. I'm done."
Neteyam stood still in a crouch for a few seconds, before getting up and looking at his retreating figure. He couldn't say what he felt hearing those words.
Remorse. Anger. Shame. Not shame of you, but of himself. He didn't want to extract that reaction from you, he didn't want you to feel down. Neteyam just wanted to see you happy, which was often difficult with how you push yourself to be satisfied with yourself.
Neteyam let out a tired sigh before following you to your family's marui.
Neteyam was helping his mother to sew some baskets that were torn, silently in a corner, as the fruit task had already been done. Neytiri saw how her son wanted to look concentrated, but noticed how his hand was in uncertain movements, his mind was unfocused.
She was initially going to ask what happened, but stopped when she saw you enter the marui. Neytiri was aware and knew her son well enough to know that he would be extremely uncomfortable opening up in the presence of anyone else, if Neteyam would actually say anything to her.
So she just shut up and continued with her skillful sewing services.
You slowly sat down next to Neteyam, remaining silent for a few moments. In that interval of time, Neteyam tensed up at your sudden presence, especially when he assumed you didn't want to talk to him right now.
Clearing your throat lightly, you looked at him warily and asked. "Do you still want to go out for the ikran run?"
Neteyam's ears pricked up in surprise, his hands stopping their movements. Neteyam looked at you with a confused expression on his face. "I thought you wouldn't want more. You left suddenly."
You looked away momentarily, awkwardly. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you with my words."
Neteyam's tail wagged slightly in a little happiness. He really wanted to go out and spend more time with you, but he thought he'd ruined everything earlier. "It's okay, I didn't act better either."
You were thinking of refusing the excuse since he definitely didn't do anything wrong. Neteyam was just worried about you. But the way you both are, you would be apologizing and refusing until tomorrow. So you just nodded and cracked a shy smile. You were still loath to talk to him after the episode, but you also didn't want to lose your competition because of your silly outburst.
"Well." You got up from the floor pulling Neteyam by the hands and arms in the process. The face he made when you said that sentence hours earlier broke your heart. You were such an idiot… you wanted to make him forget. "Let's go before it gets dark. Aren't you anxious to lose?"
Neteyam let out an amused laugh at her words. "For sure. Have you forgotten that I'm the best warrior?"
"Being the best warrior doesn't make you the best at piloting ikrans." You provoked him. Ever since the two of you got your own ikrans at the Iknimaya held a few years ago, to annoy Neteyam you always said you were better than him in that area.
You were already starting to get out of the marui with Neteyam close behind, but he paused to turn and say, "Sa'nok, we're leaving."
Neytiri let out a stifled laugh. "I noticed. Don't come back late."
Neteyam was a little embarrassed by his mother's speech, but he was too anxious to care. "Before curfew."
Arriving near the place where the ikrans used to rest, you promptly went to your own ikran and greeted him with a caress on your nose.
"Kaltxì si, Ni'niz."
Ni'niz was her first and only ikran, one of the fastest in the clan. You appreciated speed over strength. After all, being agile, the enemy will have more difficulty hitting. In this way, you and Ni'niz shared a deep bond.
Where she was your wings, you were her eyes. And so it would always be.
Neteyam admired this deep connection you possessed with your ikran. Of course, all Na'vi were connected body and soul to their own ikran. But you seemed… different. As if you both completed each other.
Neteyam climbed onto his own banshee now, adjusting his posture on top of it. "Ready?"
You gave Ni'niz one last comforting pat before mounting her. "Absolutely."
"The usual course, with the floating mountains of obstacles. Just one lap." You nodded, adjusting your stance to start when allowed. "One... two...". Before Neteyam could arrive at the long-awaited three to declare the start of the race, you're already flying, taking advantage of Neteyam who is still standing still.
"Hey! You're getting like Lo'ak!!" Neteyam flew when he saw your shameless cheating, asking his ikran to be faster to catch up with you in front.
You let out a shrill laugh into the air. You wished you could have seen Neteyam's face seconds ago, but now the focus was on getting ahead of him.
Passing some floating mountains, you were determined that you would win, after all, you took the advantage from the start and your ikran was faster. But… somehow, when you took just a glance back to check the perimeter, you saw the silhouette of Neteyam passing by.
"How, Neteyam?!"
Now it was Neteyam's turn to laugh in your face. The floating mountains could be annoying obstacles, regardless of their speed. But if you know how to fly with them, you'll have the upper hand. And Neteyam was always good at it, that's why you flew before him, to try to have that extra time. But Neteyam is unfair. "Who is the great knight of ikran now?"
Taking on more speed and trying to coordinate with the mountains, you realized that the destination was just a few meters ahead. It was all or nothing now.
You both focused on your destination, using your final breath to catch up. You had managed to catch up to Neteyam, but not overtake him, while he was also trying to stay ahead of you.
Getting closer and closer to the finish, you both passed at the same time where the victory point would be. Decelerating, you landed on a nearby floating mountain, Neteyam following close behind.
You were breathing heavily and her heartbeat was racing. You looked at Neteyam and although you were frustrated that you didn't win, the only thing you could do was laugh.
Neteyam followed laughing along with you, looking intensely at your smile. "Looks like it was a draw."
Getting down from your ikran, you walked over to a log to sit down. "I can't believe that even though I went out before, I didn't win."
Neteyam sat down next to you after letting your ikran rest, he sighed wearily letting out a few chuckles. "You're still not over me."
Snapping your beak, you gave Neteyam a playful shoulder shove. You looked to the horizon where the eclipse was beginning to form. You stopped in a place with a great view. "Get ready, next time you'll eat dust."
"Right, right." Neteyam let out an anasalated laugh, before looking in the direction you were looking. Neteyam enjoyed those moments he spent with you, alone. Just like old times.
You were grown up now, with many responsibilities and duties. It was very difficult to find opportunities for play and challenge. And he missed that. He missed hearing your laughter, he missed not having to carry a big burden on his back, he missed being a child…
But you were able to bring him this peace. Regardless of the chaos in his surroundings, you were there to ease his pain, to make him forget, at least a little bit, about the tasks that he is charged with out there.
You made Neteyam just be Neteyam.
But some things confused him. He often found himself thinking too much about you, and when he did, his heart always beat faster in his chest. When Neteyam saw you smile, he felt a warmth, a happiness. When he saw you afraid, Neteyam just wanted to protect you.
These sensations were disturbing him. He didn't understand. Or rather, he was afraid to understand.
Neteyam stood up suddenly, wanting to get out of the hole of thoughts that had crept in. "Well, it's time to go. It's getting dark."
You looked at him in surprise at the sudden order, but stood up anyway. "Eywa, time has passed so quickly. I hope the great warrior arranges more breaks in the future so we can get out more."
Neteyam's expression wavered for a few seconds, but enough for you to notice. Neteyam was easy to read under some circumstances. "You know it's not that simple."
"Yeah, right. I know. I was just kidding." You paused. "But really, Neteyam. Don't carry more than you can handle. If you want, share with me, I'm willing to help." You looked at him with a serious but welcoming look.
Neteyam looked away for a few seconds, slightly embarrassed by her affection. He was acting like an idiot. "Hm. Anyway, you already have your own duties to worry about."
You rolled your eyes at his stubbornness, slapping his arm. Not wanting to push it any further, you climbed into Ni'niz to start on your way home.
Neteyam followed your movements, and soon you were quietly flying back to your family, your home. Secretly looking at Neteyam, realizing that he returned with a serious countenance again, you mustered a little courage to thank him. "Thank you for spending time with me, even with… the way I treated you earlier."
"Don't apologize. I'm more than glad I went out to relax, especially with you." You nodded shyly at him, turning your attention forward.
Moments like this drove you crazy. You didn't know how to act normally without getting shy under Neteyam's gaze, or even at his words. Was it just you, or did Neteyam feel this tension too?
You have grown up, you were not and did not act like the children of years ago. And you were afraid that you had started to see Neteyam with different eyes by now. Fear that this new perception would change things between the two of you. Regardless of what that feeling is, you wouldn't stand a chance. So the sensible thing to do would be to bury it deep in your chest.
One day it would go away.
Shaking your head to clear the intrusive thoughts, you focused on feeling the icy air hitting your face. You calmed her troubled heart and thoughts, a warrior was not so easily flustered. That's what the others used to say. And yet you didn't notice the way Neteyam watched you out of the corner of his eye.
This whole feeling must be common for your age, so it wouldn't be permanent. Everything would pass.
At least that's what you believed, but Eywa had other plans.

HEART WITHOUT BEAT: Chapter Four
Pairing: Neteyam x Fem!Reader
Notes: Cof cof* I got slightly carried away with this chapter. I wasn't going to end where it did, but if I kept going, the chapter would get VERY big! And big chapters are tiring to check for possible mistakes (if with 2k words I already make a lot of mistakes 🥲). So, let's leave more angst for next time! This chapter was more to introduce your new life, your current relationship with the Sullys; the way you had to mature and how you are dealing with past events. Well, it will be better built up next time, I promise!
Summary: Time passed, you grew up, and a new life began.
Warnings: Injuries, blood, a little anguish.
Word Count: 4,8k

Time has no mercy. It will always be in constant 'motion', advancing its seconds, minutes, hours… and all we are left with are memories. Memories of things that have already happened and will never come back.
Memories of good and bad times. They should be enough to overcome the feeling of longing. The constant need to relive what has long ended.
As painful as it may be, those who are gone will only continue to exist as long as you keep thinking about them. And remembering moments that will never come again is certainly something that hurts more than a thousand needles piercing the flesh.
In the end, everyone will have to grow up. And as you mature, the dark will no longer be your worst nightmare. With responsibilities, the weight of life is finally crushing on your shoulders.
And if you are not strong enough, you will be your own worst enemy.
Years passed and, as the inevitable, you grew up. You were now the best warrior of your age, or nearly so. You were second only to Neteyam, but not an absolute loss, since you didn't have a glaring difference in skills.
You have become more agile, more consistent with your own movements; your aim with bow and arrow has become exceptional and your hand-to-hand combat is fluid. Jake has certainly taken great pride in your evolution, and you are happy to make him happy.
After your mother's death, Jake and Neytiri became almost like father figures to you. They welcomed you with the greatest love they could provide. They cared for you, held you through nightmare nights, and were thrilled to see your development. You were lucky to have them.
And it is because of this trust that you have built up with them over all these years, that now, as a warrior, you are on your first direct contact mission with the People of Heaven.
You, Neteyam and Lo'ak have been tasked with being aerial observers. Stay on the lookout in case some strange flying machine came close to the place where the warriors were looting the equipment. That was the initial plan.
But you live with the Sully family, and if there's one thing you've learned over all these years…it's how extremely difficult they can be to deal with.
"Bro, we have to go there", Lo'ak said, nodding his head down to where several Na'vi were gathering weapons and ammo.
"No chance, Dad will skin us-", Neteyam didn't even finish his speech before you walked in on the middle of the conversation with a not at all happy expression on your face.
"Lo'ak, don't be an imbecile and just follow the orders laid down."
It may have sounded rude, but you were used to treating each other like that. You were best friends after all. However, no matter how much you loved Lo'ak and his exploitative ways, you hated the way he often acted recklessly. So you and Neteyam were always there to put his head on straight. But sometimes it wasn't enough.
"What are you two afraid of? Aren't you two the best warriors? Don't be cowards." The second question came out as a taunt. It was typical of Lo'ak.
You didn't blame him for being jealous of the visibility his brother, and even you, received. Lo'ak also wanted to be seen, to be praised. And well, many saw him, but the preoccupation of the constant war just didn't allow that to be shown in the right way. Lo'ak was like a neglected child. He felt alone just as you did before you met him. That was why he was so special to you.
You didn't like many of Jake's attitudes, but you knew that some of them were necessary.
Death in war has no age. Much less does she expect a child to grow up to be able to deal with such situations. So there are just different sides of the story, not who is more wrong.
It turns out that regardless of the case, choices have consequences.
"Lo'ak, don't make me repeat- Lo'ak!!", you hissed at him and then growled in indignation as you saw that Neteyam came down right behind Lo'ak toward the ground. You felt like you were taking care of babies. "What the hell!"
Instead of following them too, you continued flying overhead to keep an eye on the 'aircraft', as Jake instructed you. If you were going to protect them, it was best to do it the smart way.
Despite that, you never took your eyes off the two down there. Her ear twitched as she realized that Lo'ak had a weapon in his hands, with Neteyam at his side, probably trying to convince him to come back. You would have continued watching if not for incoming enemy reinforcements.
You would promptly go to alert Jake of the approach, but just as the object located you, it began firing in your direction. "Shit."
You started flying with agility, making fluid movements but also abrupt to divert the shots toward you. There was a moment then that you finally got an opening to finally press the communication device on your neck. Not that it was very useful now, Jake probably had noticed the new drive.
"Jake, new vehicles in the sky!"
Jake's response wasn't long in coming, but he certainly wasn't happy: "I already know! Why the delay with the message? You guys need to report it right away, dammit!"
You unconsciously flinched a bit, "I'm sorry, sir...", you didn't have time to apologize before new shots came your way. Catching the sound of an explosion in the distance, you prayed that Neteyam and Lo'ak had long since left and were safe.
Even with her agile movements, one of the shots ended up grazing her thigh. It wasn't a fatal wound, but it certainly cut deep. You winced at the painful sensation of the cut, but relaxed a little when you realized that they finally managed to explode and bring down the aircraft.
You noticed that Jake was taking off again, with an extra body in his Ikran. Lo'ak was flying behind him with his head down, looking shaken. You startled slightly when a deep, angry voice reached your ears through the headphones: "Back off. Let's go back to base."
You arrived shortly after Jake and Neytiri landed. You had trouble getting off your Ikran. Her thigh throbbed. You could feel your heart beating in the place of the wound, the blood trickling down to your foot. You winced, but you weren't sure if it was from the impact with the ground or the way Jake looked like he was going to rip your heads off. Lo'ak and Neteyam were already in formation, it wouldn't be good if you took longer.
"What did I order you to do? What were your duties?? Hm?!", Jake paced back and forth staring at the two in front of him, turning around only when he realized you had arrived.
"We're supposed to be watching-"
"Right. Watching. At a distance!", he growled, "I send the geniuses to war and you disobey direct orders! God."
Kiri and Tuk soon arrive at the location as well. Kiri going directly to his older brother to analyze his bruises and Tuk going into Neytiri's arms.
"Kiri, go help your grandmother with the injured, please." Jake tried to throw her off. He wasn't finished with his scolding, not anytime soon were his children going to escape.
But Kiri, not happy with the proposal, just countered: "Father, my brother is injured."
"Tuk, go with her. Come on, both of you." Rolling her eyes, Kiri huffed out of there. Tuk followed closely behind, she hated to see her brothers hurt, but most of all, her father fighting with them. She hated that Lo'ak had to get into trouble.
You were glad that Kiri hadn't seen her wound as well, since it was a little behind her thigh, a place her vision couldn't reach. She probably wouldn't have left the scene if she had known.
"Sir, I take full responsibility-"
"Yes, you do. You must. You are the eldest, you should act like it."
Her ears flattened against her head at the harsh words. Not knowing what to do, you looked down at the floor. Neteyam was not to blame for anything that had happened. He didn't deserve that reprimand, much less that all that responsibility was placed on his shoulders.
You noticed how Lo'ak was also cowering, the only thing you wanted now was to hug him and tell him everything was fine. Everything would be fine.
Jake looked at you now, making you flinch. "You did well not to go with the idiots. Someone needs to follow orders here." What should have been a compliment was more like a stab through her heart. Would Lo'ak and Neteyam be mad at you for getting attention even in this situation? You didn't want that.
Your leg was going numb from the blood loss and you wanted to scream from the pain. It stung, badly. As a warrior you were supposed to endure it. As a living being you wanted to cry. The whole situation was frustrating. It all could have been avoided. You wanted to hit Lo'ak for his recklessness – but how much of it was your fault?
You were in a war. Any one of you could get hurt; the perimeter where battles take place is in constant danger. But it was certain that there were things that could be avoided.
You nodded at Jake's statement, and when he finally looked away, you finally relaxed your shoulder. But only for an instant. You let out a low, pained groan. The burning in your leg was becoming unbearable at this point.
Neytiri who was nearby, opening her mouth to warn her husband of the fact that her son was indeed bleeding, immediately fell silent. She promptly turned her head towards you and looked for the reason for her discomfort.
She took a few steps towards you quickly, alerted to your status. "Yawntutsyìp? What happened?"
You backed up a little. Damn. Neytiri would be worried and you would surely get a scolding. "It's nothing, really-", your words were invalidated as soon as Neytiri saw the cut on your leg.
You noticed his face of astonishment and fear. Her ears twitched and her tail was wagging restlessly behind her, showing her instant stress. "Silly child! Why didn't you tell me you were hurt??"
Jake focused attention on you again at her mate's words. He looked down at the wound on her thigh and his frown deepened. Neteyam was alarmed and Lo'ak confused. Would he feel even more guilty knowing you're hurt too? It wasn't his fault, it was his lack of skills.
The domino effect. It's hard to keep everyone satisfied.
"It's not-", you thought to again deny the seriousness of the situation – even though it really wasn't an emergency. But you thought better of it, swallowed and just said the truth: "It was that aircraft. I tried to swerve, but one of the shots ended up grazing me."
"And why did you just keep quiet? You should have said, don't be quiet when you're hurt!" Neteyam boiled over. He wasn't angry directly at you, but at himself for not noticing. He was angry that he had left you alone, and frustrated that you had hidden it. You just looked away from him; you wouldn't have a good argument now.
Jake snorted at the impending stress. His head was throbbing from the sequence of events, and his mood was definitely not the best. Looking at Neytiri, who was already giving him a firm look, as if to tell him to say something about his actions, Jake looked away half-heartedly, and said, "Dismissed. Both of you, go heal."
Jake ordered Lo'ak to stay behind; he still had some words for him. But you were no longer there to listen, you just hoped Lo'ak would be okay. Neytiri was accompanying you and Neteyam, one of her hands meeting firmly on your shoulder. She would surely have scolded you more if it hadn't been for the fact that Jake had already done enough.
Your leg was more painful now, so you were limping much more. Neteyam approached you, took your arms and put you over his shoulder, while he supported you from behind. "Lean your weight on me."
You didn't want his help. Not out of pride but because he was hurt too. He should worry more about himself. "You shouldn't exert yourself, you have big cuts on your back." You took a break. "What happened?"
"Explosion." It was the only thing he said and you didn't insist anymore.
Upon arriving and entering Mo'at's tent, Neytiri helped you to a seat, while Neteyam stepped aside to sit across from his grandmother. Kiri promptly went to get more herbs to grind and help her grandmother with the dressings. Not even a few minutes later Lo'ak arrived at the tent as well, along with Spider.
Kiri was in charge of taking care of you while your grandmother was taking care of Neteyam beside you. You were happy, Kiri was good at using medicine that didn't burn as much.
"Eywa. What a nasty cut", she grimaced as she said. You laughed at her mocking face. If Kiri wasn't sincere with her words (which she actually was in many situations), her facial expression spoke for itself.
Neteyam tried to get a better look at his wound, but he was interrupted by the burning sensation on his back. He also wanted Kiri to tend to his injuries. Not that he disliked his grandmother's care, but she was sometimes too rough. "Ow. Ow. Ow!"
"Hold still. Stop moving around so much", Mo'at pressed more ointment into Neteyam's cuts, causing him to complain even more. You laughed and he looked crookedly at you.
Lo'ak who was standing next to Neteyam watching his brother suffer through recovery, was laughing at his situation. "Own, the baby wants a kiss?"
Kiri rolled her eyes and walked away from you momentarily, only to pick up another grinding tool. "I would use yalna bark."
"Huh? And who is Tsahik?", Mo'at countered. She could be very difficult at times, and Kiri was frustrated by that.
"You, Grandma. Turns out yalna bark would burn less." Kiri came back to you and approached her wound. She got some of the ointment on her fingers, slowly and carefully she applied it to her wound.
You shivered slightly. It clearly didn't burn as much as Neteyam's looked like it was burning. But it still caused a numbness.
You looked outside the tent as a distraction. Neytiri had long since left the tent and left you and Neteyam for the necessary care. Now she found herself crouched beside Jake talking about something. They looked serious and shaken.
It broke your heart. You hated to see them sad. You would do anything, anything at all, to make each of those people important to you happy.
Her ear wilted a little. Kiri just assumed it was because of the bruise, but Neteyam noticed her melancholy. He followed her gaze and understood her sadness. He did not want to disappoint his parents in any way. He works hard every day to make them proud. Then he felt guilty when it happened.
It was all so difficult.
After finally finishing the healing session, her wound was patched up nicely with a bandage wrapped around it to protect it. It had been a while since you left Mo'at's hut, now you were sitting on one of the tallest rocks in High Camp. You enjoyed hanging out there, watching the eclipse, observing all the beautiful flora that made up your planet, your home.
Breathing in the fresh air of the new night, your heart was soothed by the tranquility. Today was a full, tiring day. Constantly dealing with wars wore her down, even if today was her first time in the field. The adrenaline of everyone around her, the tension that overwhelms her clan. It's all very suffocating.
Growing up was good. You learned new things, understood the true meaning of things. You become freer, in a way. But it's also scary. Growing up you get new responsibilities, new decisions to make. It is oppressive in many cases.
Sometimes your only wish was to go back to being a child again.
Where you would be lying next to Neytiri, listening to the incredible stories of your past life. Where Jake would run after you like an imaginary monster, even though you were a little too big for that…
Or even the time your mother was here.
You missed her so, so much. Missing your affection, your hugs, your tender kisses. The loving way she cared for you and was always there to help you. The sound of her laugh, the way her nose crinkled up when she was angry.
You miss every moment with your mother. It was painful and often you felt alone because of it. Even though Jake and Neytiri were always there to tell you that everything was okay. You were loved.
Her eyes filled with tears at the feeling of longing. Being alone in these moments was good precisely because of that, you could release some of this oppressed hurt inside you.
But then your ear was able to hear a thud close to you. You were startled and quickly began to dry your tears in case it was someone. But you already sensed the presence right next to you, if the person had noticed you well enough, they would have known that you were crying.
The person silently sat down to the side. You kept your head down, away from the figure's gaze, but that made it impossible for you to know who was beside you.
A few seconds passed in silence. Just the nocturnal sound of the forest covering the environment, calming everyone's hearts. You were able to hear a silent sigh before finally hearing the individual's voice. Her ear perked up at the sound.
"Are you okay?"
You didn't answer the question, too embarrassed that he saw you in that situation. Neteyam was always perceptive when it came to those close to you with negative emotions.
But beyond that. He knew when you were in a state of distress. When you were suffering from your inner demons. You were grateful that he was kind enough to help you, but you were frustrated to be caught in such a vulnerable state. In your mind, it was shameful.
Having received no answers, Neteyam cleared his throat and directed his gaze at you. "Does anything else hurt?"
"No. Kiri did a good job", you replied simply. If you continued with your silence, Neteyam would make sure you were okay before leaving you alone again. He was difficult sometimes.
"May I ask why you are crying?" The question came out as a simple, soothing whisper, a whisper where only you were able to hear.
To be honest, it was not the first time that Neteyam had found you in such a delicate state. Just as it was not new that he comforted you every time.
Turns out you felt like a nuisance. Just one more problem to deal with in an environment that was already upset because of the various responsibilities. Neteyam already had a lot to deal with: his training as an Olo'eyktan, caring for his younger brothers, his development as a warrior... you didn't want to be a hindrance anymore.
So you suffered in silence. Alone. But it was really impossible to escape Neteyam's doe eyes. He would always know when you were distressed, in need of support. He knew that although you pretended to be a mighty warrior, without weaknesses, you were as fragile as any other child.
And Neteyam didn't blame you for that. You had been through a lot in your life, in your childhood. So he did his best to make you understand that you were no longer a burden on his back. He took care of you because he cared. Neteyam hated to see you in this state.
"I don't…", you sighed, "Same old same old. I just miss my mother."
You still had your head down, refusing to meet Neteyam's gaze. But he was already looking at your face in profile, from the moment you started talking. Lately you've noticed how his gaze has lingered a little longer on your features. You assumed it to be more concern, so you didn't think too much.
Neteyam slowly raised his arm and rested his hand on your neck, near the nape of your neck, giving a little pressure in place. You tensed under the sudden touch, but it lasted only an instant. You soon relaxed at the warm contact on your skin.
More tears filled your eyes and you held them back as long as you could. It wasn't time to cry anymore, you couldn't be a crybaby forever. Her body trembled slightly, a sob wanting to escape her throat.
Eywa. What was all that whining about now? It had just been a tiring day, but you should be able to handle it. Neteyam must certainly consider you a pain in the ass.
"You can cry, you know. It won't make you weaker", he paused. "It's okay, I'm here."
And then you found yourself unable to hold it in any longer. It was unfair. It was unfair the way Neteyam had the power to make you crumble in seconds. The way he could see into your soul with just one look.
You laid your head on Neteyam's shoulder, hiding your face as endless sobs and tears escaped you.
In all those years, you and Neteyam had become good friends, close friends. You supported each other in each and every circumstance; whether Neteyam was suffering because of new scoldings from his father or tired from the increasing responsibilities of each day, it was you who were there to calm him down. To tell him that everything would be fine, everything would pass.
He loved to hear your soothing whispers.
Neteyam loved how confident you were, with the soul of a leader. But at the same time, it was fragile. And that just like a child, you needed affection and protection.
Just as you cared for Neteyam, he cared for you, being there whenever you needed him. Neteyam would be there to calm your nightmares, silence your agonizing screams or comfort you on sleepless nights.
A smile opened on Neytiri's lips whenever she saw you together, the way you treated each other. The way the two of you, together, cared for Kiri, Lo'ak and Tuk like the most precious people in the world.
You would be strong warriors in adulthood. Individually, but mostly united. You and Neteyam were two parts that completed each other and that is what made you so powerful. But just as unity is a strength, it can also be your greatest weakness.
Neteyam was understanding with you, allowing you to cry as much as necessary for your heart to be at peace. He lowered his arm from the back of your neck to your waist, slowly embracing you. Conveying warmth and protection.
Neteyam noticed how much you liked hugs. This became more frequent after her mother's death. Neytiri was the one who gave you that kind of affection the most, always there, willing to hug you and caress her hair, like a mother would. And you were forever grateful for that, you missed that kind of love so much.
So when you felt the firm arms around you, you sank even deeper into the embrace.
You stayed there until you calmed down. All that was left were silent sniffles and your sighs.
Night had already arrived and Pandora's night lighting came to life. It was so beautiful. You loved looking at the life around you, appreciating the creation of the Great Mother. It is unfair that the People of Heaven come here to take such goods as if they had a right. If the mother, creator of their planet, was dying, it is their own fault; it's selfish to want to get it from somewhere else now.
But that's what humans are, isn't it? Selfish, sinful, and monstrous. You learned as you grew up that they are not all bad, there were good humans too, like those who lived next to you. But compared to the number of those who wanted to break up your home, it was something very small.
But there was really no use dwelling on this. Your only option was to fight, to fight these intruders and to protect your people.
That was the only way to nip this evil in the bud. Fight.
"We should go now, it's late. Your parents will be worried", you said, already pulling away from Neteyam's warm embrace. You felt awkward at the loss, but didn't think much of it.
"Right. We should." Despite him agreeing, Neteyam still took a good look at your face to make sure you really looked better. You were great at changing the focus of the scene, so he knew he should keep a closer eye on you.
Standing up, you stretched slightly before inhaling a copious amount of air. The night was cool today.
You and Neteyam started walking leisurely towards your Marui. Upon arrival, you smelled delicious food, apparently dinner was already ready. It was at that moment that you noticed how hungry you were, the day was definitely full, you didn't even remember what your last meal was.
You went in first, with Neteyam right behind. As you entered, Tuk was the first to spot your presence. She ran up to you immediately.
With its impact on your body, you took a step back, bracing yourself with your injured leg. You let out a silent groan of discomfort, which by the looks of it, didn't escape Neteyam's exceptional hearing.
"Tuk, more careful!"
Tuk startled and turned away from you with her ears perked. She had completely forgotten about your injury. Tuk made you feel pain, didn't she?
You noticed that Tuk's big eyes filled minimally with water. You immediately went to hug her and comfort her from the fright. "No, no, it's all right. You didn't hurt me, it was just unintentional, hm?", you made her look at you, "How about you show me what we have to eat today?"
Tuk nodded and soon a shy smile took over her lip. She took one of your hands and carefully pulled you over to the campfire, near Neytiri, who was finishing chopping some fruit.
Neteyam just sighed and went to sit down too, between Jake and Lo'ak. Neytiri had given her permission to start eating after a brief thank you to Eywa. You had a good morsel, already basking in the gaze. You were starving.
Dinner was silent. It wasn't such an oppressive silence, but it certainly wasn't as cozy. Everyone was on edge. This is the expected result of a war.
Today's results were good from a technical side. But bad from a family side. Neteyam was in a lot of danger, who knows what could have happened... no, it was better not to think about it. The important thing was that he was here now, along with all of you.
You noticed how Lo'ak seemed more sullen too. In those hours he would be making some disgusting joke just to annoy Kiri, but he was quiet. You didn't know if it was from Jake's scolding, the punishment, or the way he felt guilty about his brother. Either way, you would have to stroke his sorrows a little later.
After everyone finished eating and felt full, you helped Neytiri put away the utensils that were used for eating, and then everyone began to organize themselves to finally rest. The energy was depleted and everyone there seemed very stressed. A good sleep should be enough.
You, as always, snuggled between Kiri and Neteyam. Tuk still couldn't sleep away from her parents, so she slept between Neytiri and Jake, but still close to her sister. And Lo'ak slept on the other side of Neteyam.
Many times you woke up in the middle of the night to find half of Lo'ak's body on top of Neteyam. Sometimes you even got a kick or two. But it wasn't too inconvenient, as the warmth of your considerably new family soothed your spirit. It was a kind of tranquilizer for you.
Releasing the air you didn't even know you were holding, you stared at the ceiling for a few more seconds, before closing your eyes to try to drift off to sleep. You fixed your attention on the quiet sighs and snores of the others. They already seemed to have begun to fall asleep, really no longer able to stay awake.
Another day has gone. And all you hope, no, all you pray for, is that better days will come ahead. You hope to find peace one day. No aliens on your planet, no destruction.
Just you, your family, and your beautiful home, flourishing as it should be.
As Eywa made it to be.

All energy is only borrowed and will one day have to be returned.
Every person is born twice, but departs only once.
The Na'vi learn from a young age that every moment, every hour, minute, and second must be enjoyed within the blessing that is all of Eywa's creation.
You must give thanks, revere and love everything and everyone around you. Everyone understands the importance of a life.
But when it's gone, what's left?
The pain of loss is unbearable, something that many take forever to overcome. But what causes sadness if your ancestors continue to live, in peace, with the Great Mother?
Probably the lack of body heat that you will no longer feel. The lack of hugs, new memories…
Everyone fears the unknown, but death is something that is often seen.
The magic formula for overcoming matches has not yet been found, and it is probably far from it.
So what would be the remedy for wounds that cannot be mended? What is the solution, for the regret of everything that should have been done?
There is none of that, after all.
Upon hearing Neytiri's words, you froze for a moment trying to understand the hidden message in her speech.
"I'm sorry, my poor child…I'm sorry", she continued to ramble on and you continued to sink. What was the reason for her apology? What was the reason for her despair?
She wouldn't have mistaken you for someone else, right?
"For what?", your little heart fluttered in your chest, unspoken words deafened your senses. This whole situation was making you afraid.
You wanted your mother.
Neytiri was silent for a while, and then he shifted his gaze to Jake, who was also agitated by the whole scene. Just like you, he wasn't aware of the situation. His muscles were rigid and you could see lines of worry creeping into his features.
The other children just sank into silence together. Tensed by the gloomy atmosphere that was forming. Everything was a mystery and the lack of knowledge of the situation only made everyone overwhelmed.
Neytiri slowly pulled away from you, releasing you from her warm and insecure arms. She placed one of her hands on your chest, just above your fluttering heart and said softly, "You need to be strong. Strong heart."
Your ears perked up at the words. You didn't know exactly what she meant. You didn't understand.
Your mouth was dry, your soul was crying out for answers. Was this some kind of punishment?
You slowly nodded, unsure and unsure.
Neytiri looked at you for a few more seconds, which seemed like forever, and then stood up, taking one of your hands and leading you into Mo'at's tent.
Jake slowly followed behind, a little hesitant because he didn't know if he was welcome there. His curious children also followed close behind, with cautious and silent movements.
Neteyam noticed your mother's agitation when she arrived and when she spoke to you, which made him worry.
Nothing bad would happen to you, right?
Upon entering, you found your Tsahik, Mo'at, next to someone lying on the floor. She silently prayed, passing her hands slowly through the air just above her body.
You just got even more confused. Was someone hurt? What did that have to do with you?
Neytiri, who stayed behind you, placed his hands on your back and slowly pushed you towards the two figures on the ground. You walked hesitantly, shivers ran down your spine and your senses sharpened.
Mo'at nodded to Neytiri, as if to tell her to let you go on your own from then on.
You approached with cautious steps, the person lying down seemed to be in a deep sleep. It would be impolite of you to wake her.
As you got close enough to analyze the features of the figure on the floor, your own body stiffened. You were confused.
Why was your mother there?
The air in your lungs was sucked out, and suddenly you didn't know how to move your muscles.
Your mother seemed so at peace, a sinful peace.
Her body was clean and tidy, in such a deep sleep that it would be unfair to wake her, but you wanted to tell her about your day.
You just didn't understand why your meeting with your mother was such an important thing to do that required your Tsahik's presence.
You crouched down beside her, sitting on your knees so gently that you were almost unable to register the feel of the ground.
Analyzing for a few seconds, you finally put your hands on your mother's arm and shook her a little to wake her up. "Sa'nu? Why are you sleeping here?"
No answers.
Was she so tired at this point? You could hear certain movement, sighs and suppressed sobs behind you, but you didn't care much, you had another purpose.
Mo'at just continued to watch you go on with your movements, a serious and welcoming look on your face. Again, you didn't care.
"Sa'nok, Tsahik is here. Why are you sleeping in this situation?". A small twinge hit your core. You were not understanding, comprehending that situation. What was going on? What did it all mean?
Why wasn't her mother waking up?
She always woke up as soon as you called, always willing at any time to answer your calls. Always willing to comfort you.
You began to shake her harder. Wiggling her more and more. One hour she would wake up, right?
"Tsahik, why doesn't she wake up? Is she sick?", made sense, didn't it? It was the only reason you could find to justify Mo'at's presence there with you. She didn't answer you, she just closed her eyes and bowed her head slightly.
A deafening silence filled the room again. It was as if Eywa herself was listening to your inner doubts, fear and melancholic thoughts taking over. The truth is that you were never good at keeping a steady thought, at focusing on good things.
You always expected the worst.
Her lower lips trembled slightly, almost imperceptibly. But certainly not for your divinity.
Hoping she would wake up, you rocked your mother once more.
Again.
Again. Again. And again.
But nothing happened.
You were becoming distressed. The blood turning to ice in your veins as your eyes filled with spiteful tears.
"Why doesn't she answer? Why doesn't my mother answer?"
You don't ask anyone specific. Anyone who answered you would be enough.
You turned to Neytiri, looking at Jake as well in the process. Mo'at didn't look like she was going to open her mouth to say anything. You were losing hope. "Neytiri, can you help me? Please." Her last words came out as a whisper.
Neytiri covered your mouth with her own hand, sinking her head into the curve of Jake's neck. You were confused. Why was everyone refusing to help you? Had you done something wrong?
Were they punishing you?
You promise that you won't do anything bad anymore, you just wanted to feel your mother's warmth again. You wanted to listen to her, even if it was one of her scoldings.
"Mama! You are scaring me, please answer me." You continued, not satisfied with the lack of movement of the figure on the floor.
Reality came crashing down on you like a stone. But you didn't want to believe it. There was no way… she was so fine.
You finally broke. Swinging your mother with uncontrolled force as you called out to her, your voice growing louder and louder.
"No. No, no, no… Sa'nu."
That was unfair.
You weren't ready. You couldn't even say goodbye.
Was this departure some kind of punishment or a release?
Was it selfish of you to wish that Eywa would return your beloved progenitor back to you?
You were not prepared to see her go.
When you heard Neytiri apologize, you imagined that something had happened. But not something like this.
You were in denial. All this was supposed to be just a misunderstanding. It had to be.
The words weighed heavily on Neytiri's lips, but they certainly didn't compare to the weight of reality on you.
You were alone to carry this burden, it was unbearable.
Regret covered your whole being, drowning you in pure anguish and despair.
The Great Mother had not been fair. You were just a child.
Eywa doesn't choose sides, she is only responsible for the control of life. But there, surely there was a miscalculation.
Her mother shouldn't have gone like this, not this way, not now.
Reality was distorted and you, as a form of final salvation, just wished, begged, that it was all a big misunderstanding, and that in fact your mother was in your marui, just waiting for your arrival.
Maybe not all prayers are always heard. Not as Toruk Makto had been blessed.
Can you imagine how your mother was in her final moments. Was she desperate, afraid… in pain?
At least you hope she's gone in peace. But you know her. You know her well enough to know how much she must have suffered, and how sorry she was that she didn't get the chance to feel your darling little girl's skin just one last time.
And you blamed yourself. You blamed yourself for not being there for her final breaths. You blamed yourself for not realizing. You blamed yourself for not seeing how your mother was saying goodbye to the material world.
Was it selfish of you to pray to Eywa to return her mother?
She was at peace, in the warm and welcoming arms of the Great Mother, so… why? Why did this hurt more than expected?
There was no option to choose.
And then you screamed. You screamed until your lungs clamored for oxygen and your throat tore from the effort. You didn't even know you were capable of emitting such a sound. A colossal sound, which carried all her inner grudges, all her regrets.
You lower your head to your mother's chest, where it should be pulsing with a heartbeat. But where you found only silence. You never imagined that the stillness would frighten you so.
She couldn't have really left you. Not like this. Without your mother you would be alone, with no one to tuck you in at bedtime, no one to scold you, no one to prepare the best meal of your life. You had already lost your father. You couldn't survive without your mother now.
Your chest hurt, your throat ached, still not letting up with the screaming. You cried and cried, no longer aware of your surroundings.
Jake had kicked your children out of there long ago and Neytiri was kneeling a few inches away from you. Murmuring thousands of 'I'm sorry' and 'I'm so sorry'.
She was not at fault in this situation, not at all. But honestly, you didn't have the strength to care anymore.
You had everything. And now there was nothing.
Nothing important to keep close to you. You were surrounded by many, but suddenly you were alone, suffering in silence.
Neytiri came to you then, crouching down next to you and placing a hand on the back of your neck. She gave it a gentle squeeze to reassure you. But even she didn't trust that that was possible. "It's going to be okay… you're not alone."
You didn't know if she was trying to calm herself or you. Her eyes were burning from endless tears, and her voice was already hoarse from screaming. You didn't want to leave your mother, you knew she would open her eyes at some point. She was just very tired.
And so you waited.
But all that was achieved was eternal silence.
Your mother's wake was painful. You couldn't find the strength to go on with that ceremony. She was so beautiful, even without life. She was at peace.
Still, it hurt. It hurt and it hurt so much. The whole situation was tearing you apart. Crushing your heart like it was nothing. How did it end this way?
A few hours ago you were laughing breathlessly with your friends, giving your all in training, looking forward to the moment you would show your new skills to your mother. And then, it ended like this.
Your life turned upside down so fast it made you dizzy. You didn't know where to go from here.
The clan was all gathered around the small space where her mother was. Atokirinas prowling everywhere, especially around you. It's like Eywa is comforting you and telling you that everything was fine, she was safe. Prayers were able to be heard, small thanks for the life she had led up to that point, and pleas for a peaceful rest.
Her mother's hands were so cold. So cold that when it came into contact with her skin, her entire body shivered. She didn't look like herself anymore, with her usual warmth. It scared you.
You weren't ready, not like you should have been. You weren't ready to let go. The hugs, the playfulness, the gentle, loving kisses that your mother filled you with all the time. You wanted her to be there for you as you matured, to be there to put you to sleep and comfort you through the worst nights and nightmares.
It… hurt so much.
You were dead inside. Your soul was crying out for help, unable to bear the unbearable feeling of that loss. No one should have to go through this.
Mostly a child.
Mo'at allowed you to stay by your mother's side to say goodbye. The next time you saw her, she would be with the Great Mother, in a safe place. She would no longer be suffering.
Jake, as Olo'eyktan, was close by. He was also responsible for helping with the funeral, while Mo'at led the spiritual part. His sons were right behind. They too were shaken, eyes swollen from crying along with you, not as much, but their hearts whispered for sympathy.
Neteyam especially. Ever since he became aware of what was happening in Mo'at's tent, his heart broke at the sight of your state. He hated to see you cry, to see you sad. And he knew that a part of your brightness was gone along with your mother. And then he lamented. Neither of you possessed power over life, the only option being to continue with the story. But it was inevitable to think of a 'What if...'
And he felt pathetic that he couldn't help you. His only choice was to put his head down, and ask Eywa to ease, a little bit that is, her pain.
But there was also Neytiri. Certainly, she was the one who cared for you the most up to this point. She suffered with you, cried with you, and most of all, hugged you when you needed it.
Your mother and Neytiri were so close, trusted each other so mutually, that Neytiri was like a second mother to you. A new mother figure. So you broke down in her presence. Imagining that she was actually an embodiment of her mother.
Her supportive words, her warm and nurturing touches. Everything was present with Neytiri by your side. She kept you from succumbing to the darkness. You were not entirely alone.
That's what she started to do. Take care of you. Neytiri called you softly. You placed one last kiss on your mother's forehead, eyes and finally on her nose, and whispered a short 'See you later'. And then you went towards Neytiri, holding one of her hands.
She was her new pillar now. Even if in your heart, broken and aching, you were no longer the same person after that day. You wouldn't have the same brightness, the same will to live.
On that night of prayer, her soul was buried next to the body of her mother, the one who lit her path, or rather, her life. And so, a new warrior was born.

You were tired. His eyes weighed tons and it was mission impossible to keep them open.
Your mother quietly hummed a song almost silently that just helped you slip into a deep sleep.
Being out all day, in the area where the Sullys lived, you were playing all the time. The truth is that your new friendships worked out more than expected.
In the beginning you were a little stuck because everything was too new, new sensations, and there were still moments that you didn't know how to deal with, but you let go more. Her mother was right when she said those kids were good people.
They were strangers. Definitely different from the others in the clan, but that's what made them special.
And you were glad that Eywa sent you to them.
You didn't know how lonely it was until you experienced what it felt like to have friends in your life, to have someone to talk to and laugh with. You didn't know what it was like to be a kid.
So experiencing the genuine happiness of just running and screaming was liberating for you. You were free.
And, well, on top of that, you particularly liked the presence of Neteyam. He was someone calmer, more collected, but he was also a lot of fun.
In that day.
"Okay, let's play tag!", Lo'ak announced shortly after finishing all the necessary introductions, he was already impatient with the delay.
Kiri wasn't able to stop her eyes from rolling back to her brother as she sighed in her haste. "Jeez Lo'ak, you're going to scare her if you keep being such an idiot."
"Shut up Kiri!", Lo'ak immediately snapped and Kiri promptly stuck her tongue out at him, the two starting over with their little sibling fight.
Neteyam intervened between the two, placing a hand on each's shoulder to calm the situation. "Can you guys stop fighting for now?"
You let out a nasal laugh at the whole situation. In her mind the brothers were close-knit people who normally enjoyed each other's presence, acting in harmony under the teachings of Toruk Makto. But it's quite the opposite.
They cursed each other, which is surprising for their age, made faces at each other and couldn't seem to stand each other. You don't know what it's like to deal with siblings since you're an only child, but you didn't expect to be like this.
And Neteyam, despite being a child himself, seemed to be quite responsible towards his siblings. It made her heart warm a little, he seemed to care a lot for them, even if currently his expression was mocking their behavior.
Neteyam turned to you at the sound of your laughter, which was almost unnoticeable. A small smile spread across his lips when he saw that you were a little more comfortable. He noticed how nervous you were when you arrived. And also to fulfill your father's request, he would do his best to make you feel good around them.
"Very well", leaving his brothers aside and turning fully towards you, he asked you, "Do you know how to play tag?"
His heart skipped a little at the unexpected question. You weren't used to questions being directed at you, and besides, you didn't know exactly how to play it. Of course, not that you played outside very often to know about various types of pranks, but this seemed strange to you.
You weren't sure your voice would come out audibly, so to avoid unnecessary embarrassment, you shook your head.
Neteyam crossed his arms in front of his chest and just nodded. "It's okay, it was our father who taught us. He said it was a very famous game in the Star he came from. I'll teach you."
Neteyam then took Lo'ak's hand and moved a little closer to you to facilitate the explanation. "It's pretty simple, let's say I'm chosen as the catcher. My job is to catch someone else so that they can be the new catcher. For example, if I touch Lo'ak, he will be the new catcher and he will have to do the same thing I was doing before, understand?"
You were silent digesting the information. It certainly wasn't difficult, you just needed to run to save yourself or catch someone, right? It looked like fun.
You nodded again confirming that you understood.
Neteyam smiled at you, not demanding for the time being that you say it out loud, even though he really wanted to hear your voice.
"Can I be catcher?? Please!", Lo'ak was waiting for this moment since he gave the idea of this joke, nobody was better than him in this function.
"Let her choose, you're always a picker." Kiri, as usual, was quick to antagonize her brother, but Neteyam agreed with her this time. You were new to the group, you had the right to choose, and that would certainly get him talking.
To quickly end all attention on you, you sincerely replied, "H-Hm, well, I don't mind Lo'ak being the catcher."
"Hah! It's decided!! You have 5 seconds to run! One… two…-"
Neteyam was going to start running with Kiri, but noticing that you didn't even move, he went to you, grabbed your hands a little bigger than his and pulled you along. He hadn't even noticed how you were a little taller than him, which was surprising. Deep down he wished that in the future his body would grow more and consequently be bigger than you.
You were startled by Neteyam's sudden gesture, almost falling in the first few steps trying to keep up with the rhythm.
His heart was racing and a genuine smile spread across his mouth. The adrenaline was fun and you had never felt like this before. It was different.
You burst out laughing nervously as you realized that Lo'ak started running towards him, Neteyam noticing along with you. "Run! He may be small, but his legs are fast."
Lo'ak shouted a curse behind you at his brother's comment and it only drew even more laughs from you. Neteyam, even with the adrenaline of the moment, couldn't help but look at you and notice how sweet his laugh sounded. He was innocently happy to make you laugh. He should give Lo'ak some credit too.
Realizing there was nowhere to run, you and Neteyam let go of your hand momentarily to take opposite directions. You didn't know what to do for a moment, but you started running again after hearing Neteyam saying: "Run to the other side! Lo'ak always comes after me-"
A small miscalculation.
Lo'ak didn't go after Neteyam, he went after you. You despaired about it, what should you do? Should you try to outwit him? Run faster? Her lungs were burning for air, it was excruciating.
Kiri, who was calm watching the whole scene, realized Lo'ak's intentions, immediately screaming so that he could hear: "Lo'ak, you little trickster! She's new to the game, she's still getting used to it- Lo'ak!!"
Neteyam stopped running when he saw that Lo'ak wasn't behind him, seeing how you were giving your all to run.
He expected to be the one being chased, as Lo'ak is always on the challenge of outmaneuvering and catching him. But Neteyam forgot what his brother was like. Soon, he could only root for you, even if you probably wouldn't last much longer due to your lack of experience in the game.
"Run for the trees! Try to outrun him by climbing them."
Kiri without realizing it was also rooting for you, seeing how you were struggling to drink air and oxygenate your own body. Despite that, you were doing well for the first time, by which time Lo'ak would have caught any other kid playing.
You did as you were told, running towards a tree, you climbed it as fast as possible, hanging between them to try to lose the runner behind you.
The problem is that when trying to jump from one tree to another, out of desperation, you ended up slipping on the foliage and ended up falling to the ground. Good thing you weren't that tall, but you would definitely get some good bruises on your legs and hands.
Lo'ak stopped his movements as soon as he noticed his fall, going to check on you. Neteyam and Kiri coming after you desperately afraid you've been badly hurt.
"I-I'm sorry, I shouldn't have run so fast."
Neteyam quickly arrived at the place where you were, crouched down beside you and took your hands in his to analyze them. He had a worried look on his face, breathing quickened from running all the way there. "Are you well??"
You were silent for a moment, but not a second later you burst out laughing. One of the most sincere and fun of your life. Adrenaline was still coursing through your veins, making you forget about the pain of the bruises that formed on your legs and arms.
Despite that, it was the most fun thing in his entire life, even if it's still short. You were so, so happy to be there. You'll have Eywa to thank tonight for giving you even one moment of happiness with friends, real friends.
You continued laughing for a while, Lo'ak and Kiri with incredulous expressions on their faces, Neteyam following his brothers. But soon a smile spread across his lips and he followed you with laughter. He was indeed worried about your injuries, but he couldn't hold back his laughter when he saw how much fun you had, Neteyam was happy.
"Have they gone mad?" Kiri asked Lo'ak beside her, wanting to tend to her injuries as quickly as possible.
"Who knows, the fall must have been bad."
Without realizing it, the two youngest joined you, laughing at everything that happened. It was the best day of your life. But it was still the beginning.
After treating his wounds and Jake giving the Lo'ak a mild scolding, you played more and more, of different pranks possible, laughing at every stupid thing you did.
You would also have your mother to thank for pushing you so hard to come. And you should congratulate yourself for coming. Her new friends were the biggest blessings in her life. You were…so alive.
You definitely had no idea what it was like to be a real kid. And now that you've tried it, you wouldn't want to put it down so soon.
Arriving at your tent, your mother promptly put you in the hammock. You were flipped over, having totally depleted your energy for the day.
She smiled looking at you, placing a kiss on your forehead so light it was almost unnoticeable. Tears filled her eyes in the process. She was so proud.
So proud of your maturity, that you faced your inner challenges and fears so well. You were such a strong little girl.
When she lost her mate, she went into deep sadness, thinking about how you wouldn't even get a chance to smell your father. How would she take care of you alone?
She was afraid.
Fear that she didn't raise you right. Afraid that she wasn't enough.
And the fear got worse when she saw how closed you were, how you became more and more alone. Her heart broke, it ached with every remembered memory you shared only with her. The way you never truly lived like a kid who only had to worry about what time to get back to the tent.
So, seeing you finally overcome this difficulty, seeing how much fun you had with true friends who really cared about you, moved her. She was so, so happy for you.
In the dead of night, sitting next to her hammock, her mother took one of her little hands, using the other to cover her own mouth and stifle the silent sobs that insisted on escaping her throat.
Tears were not possible to hold back. She didn't know how distressed she had been for all these years, until she felt immense relief wash over her heart. She must thank Neytiri and her family for everything, but above all, Eywa, her Great Mother.
She should also tell your father the way you grew up. He would be so proud of you.
Your mother expects you to become someone stronger every day, to be surrounded by people who are special and important to you... so that you don't suffer so much when she leaves.
Three years later.
"Ma'Ite, where are you already going? Eat first."
"Sa'nok! Lo'ak and Kiri are waiting for me- Aah…", your mother pulled you back to sit down and eat, preventing you from sneaking out.
"For someone who did everything not to leave the house, you're going out a lot, huh?", her mother joked. You always frowned at those mocking comments from her, but it's not like you really got mad.
Grumbling, you started to eat your food quickly to leave to meet your friends as soon as possible. "These were other Sa'nu times."
Your mother smiled and joined you to eat. The last few years she has lived with such a light heart, so happy to see you, her little girl, having fun, no longer alone.
But things aren't always perfect.
Your mother's chronic illness has been getting worse over the years. She feels weaker, more fragile… and it hurts her heart to think that maybe she doesn't have as much time to spend with you anymore. To see it grow.
And whenever you see her in her weakest moments, her mother says it's not so bad. It's just a minor illness that would soon pass if she took good care of herself.
You worried, you were scared when you saw your mother in a bad way, but she conveyed so much confidence… that you ended up believing her.
But who knows how long she would actually hold out. She prayed to Eywa that you would at least mature enough not to suffer so much. But how could you not be consumed with grief, when in addition to having already lost your father, you would also lose your mother?
However, your mother did her best not to think about these situations, because soon she was covered by fear, and you always noticed it, being worried and distressed not knowing what provoked this in your mother, you felt pathetic.
"Eat slowly, Ma'Ite. What are you looking forward to?", her mother asked after shaking her head to clear any melancholy thoughts. This was not the right time for that.
You were almost done with your food, eating it so fast you weren't even able to taste it, which is kind of a waste. Your mother's cooking was wonderful, the best you've ever tasted in your entire life. But you couldn't stop the euphoria you felt throughout your body about today. "Lo'ak, Neteyam and I are going to go train! Toruk Makto said he would give us a special lesson today."
"Didn't you say Kiri was waiting?"
"Well, she will also come with us to see us. She said that she likes to make fun of Lo'ak when he gets something wrong. He angry is very funny", you let out a small laugh just at the thought. When Lo'ak gets frustrated, he ends up acting dumber than he normally would, so it was really fun to see him deal with that.
Her mother shook her head in disagreement, but let out a genuine laugh at their childish behavior.
Having finished your food twice as fast as usual, you walked over to your mother, placed a quick kiss on her cheek, and bid her farewell to go meet your friends.
"Take care Ma'Evi. And have fun."
"Kìyevame, Sa'nok!"
You finally arrived where Lo'ak and Kiri were waiting, noticing how impatient the two already looked. In fact, Lo'ak already appeared to be starting to sleep in the tree they were leaning against.
Kiri was the first to notice his arrival since Lo'ak's eyes were closed, she soon got up and crossed her arms over her chest with a not very pleasant expression on her face. "Wow. What a delay!"
"Sorry, sorry, my mom insisted I eat before I left." Kiri didn't even wait for you to finish talking before taking your hand to drag you to the training area, her father and Neteyam were already waiting.
"Let's go Lo'ak!" Lo'ak hurriedly got up, muttering to himself as he was just about to fall asleep. Soon the three of you were off to the field where you would spend the afternoon training and obviously having fun when you could.
So had her last years been after meeting the Sully children.
You were definitely very lucky to have them in your life. You didn't remember what it was like to be alone anymore and you sure didn't want to lose the feeling of being special to someone. You were happy, happy, happy.
Lo'ak was currently his best friend, mostly in the art of mess. Well, you didn't enjoy your younger phase the way you should have, years ago, so now it was common for you to be too childish at times, as they were new and addictive sensations.
Kiri was also a very close friend. You had intimate conversations as friends, you loved hearing Kiri talk about how strongly she felt Eywa's presence everywhere… and even within herself. You loved to tease her and how she could get mad so easily…
And Neteyam, well, you had a strong relationship.
He was the first one that you had the easiest time talking to, opening up as your true 'I'. Neteyam was patient, playful in his own way, taught you many new things, and most of all, he was affectionate.
Soon after you met and became friends, you developed a strong bond with each other, with a common goal to be the bravest warriors in the clan.
You were almost like best friends too, but more responsible friends so to speak.
You felt good next to him, how comfortable he felt next to you. You were a source of comfort and security for each other. Neteyam promptly carved out a special place in his heart. So, as a friend, you cared for him a lot.
You were each other's support in everything. In this way, you would always be by his side to push Neteyam towards his own achievements at any time.
Spider, bearing in mind that he was not previously mentioned, was a curious case.
His mother had no contact with humans, as the main reason everything they caused to her clan.
Everything they took from her.
His mother was afraid, apprehensive, angry, everything and any negative feeling towards them. She blamed them for her beloved mate having to join Big Mom so soon.
Therefore, when she learned that a human child lived among the Omatikaya, she was not so happy about the idea.
You, on the other hand, were fascinated.
Having met the Sullys as a small child, you haven't seen a human before in your life. So when they introduced him to Spider, it was a total shock.
You were afraid and apprehensive of him when you saw him. Even though you're taller and stronger than Spider.
But soon his curiosity took over. You thought he was weird.
Humans were such odd creatures in his eyes, it was almost comical.
They didn't have pointy ears or a tail like yours. Their skin color was different, their nose and eyes weren't the same, and… they had an extra finger on their hand.
When you first noticed Kiri and Lo'ak's hands, you found them a little strange. It was unlike anything you had ever seen. But to you, that just made them special.
His mother dubbed it childlike innocence.
But you didn't care much. They were your friends and you would accept them however they were. And the same way it was with Spider.
His mother, however, did not approve of this friendship. Always telling you he was dangerous and you shouldn't get too close. But she was careful not to insult him, since he, even though he was a Sky People, was still a child.
As a result, you had an uneasy friendship with Spider because your mother prevented you from being close. But you liked him, he was a really nice guy. So whenever you had the opportunity with the other Sullys, you played together.
This way, you're surrounded by your own odd group of friends, each with a special skill and trait, which makes you love them even more.
You weren't so shy anymore. Of course, there were still situations that you had a hard time dealing with, but now, you weren't alone anymore. You wouldn't have to suffer alone.
Consequently, you learned to communicate better, to show more confidence. You were on your way to being a great warrior and that spurred you on even more.
Much of the credit for its maturation is due to Neteyam, who was the main piece for its growth. You owed him a lot.
Currently you were walking towards the Sullys' house next to them. According to Jake, Neytiri had said that her mother would spend the afternoon with her while you were all gone, so it was more likely to find her there yet.
The day was fun, but mostly tiring. Today's training was pretty tough and you worked your body skills a lot.
Even though they were still children, Jake said that the sooner you started this training, the better it would be in the future. Your skills would already be well developed and honed.
However, nothing indicated that it would be easy. Her legs, or rather her entire body ached. You couldn't wait to have a delicious meal made by your mother and sleep next to her. Her reunions were without a doubt the best part of the day.
Coming close to the place, you were able to see Neytiri just in front of Mo'at's tent, which meant that her mother was also nearby.
Lo'ak and Kiri were the first to run into his arms, Neteyam who was at his side followed shortly after.
Neytiri appeared to have a shaken, tired look on his face. You thought it was because of the constant stress she went through also helping lead the clan. But Jake also noticed her mood and how lost and ungrounded his companion looked. So he walked over to her along with his children to try to find out what had happened.
As for you, you didn't go into her arms. You stayed close, just watching the family gather. It was beautiful the way they complemented each other. You envy them in a way, even if your mother was more than enough for you to be happy and complete.
Not seeing your mother anywhere, you assumed that in fact she had already left to wait for you. You were calmly starting to turn around to go to your own tent, but you stopped your steps when you heard Neytiri call for you.
"Syulang, come here too."
When looking back, you saw how Neytiri was with her arms open to you, containing a welcoming smile on her face. You didn't know how to respond to these direct affections from Neytiri whenever they happened, but you really appreciated them.
So you slowly walked over to her returning her warm hug, burying your face in her chest. She was very fragrant.
You didn't feel so comfortable around Jake or Neytiri the first few times you met them. It was a little uncomfortable being in their presence. But as you interacted and bonded, they became special.
They conveyed comfort to you, like a second family.
So you were happy about the hug, but you got a little agitated when you noticed how Neytiri was shaking, how bitter she looked. And what made you sink even deeper was when you heard Neytiri's tremulous whisper in her ear, so low you thought you'd heard wrong.
"Ngaytxoa, oeyä Syulang."

I came across your blog, and I’m happy I did! You’re writing is so satisfying and well written, it’s perfect. I absolutely loved the intro of Heart Without Beat!! ❤️ I really really enjoyed reading it! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series! You had my little heart squealing in happiness!! Just by reading your fic, I fell in love, and now you’re one of my favorite authors 🥰.
And, for some reason, (it might be weird) I totally understand the reader. I’m shy and anti-social. Irl I can’t hold a conversation to save my life, I’m very awkward. But here in tumblr, I feel like I can express myself, I don’t know why?
But anyways, sorry for my rambling. You made me connect with the reader, not a lot of authors do that. So thank you! I saw that you said you weren’t really good at intros, but you made me speechless 😶. Give yourself the credit, you truly and honestly deserve it!
Take care of yourself and have a wonderful day/night ❤️
Oh heavens, I was so happy with your comment!
Calm down, let's go by parts lol
First, I want to thank you very, very much for sending me this! I was so happy to read it! I definitely never thought my blog would grow this way as I don't have English as my birth language and I'm very insecure with my writing, but now, with all the affection received, I am so happy and confident! 💕💕🤧 Welcome to my humble blog, feel comfortable.☺️
I'm very happy that you liked the beginning of the series, I hammered my head so much to try to give a good start, that in the end I overloaded myself and ended up thinking that it wasn't really good. But I see how it's just in my head!
And you're not alone, I actually also have a lot of difficulty communicating with new people and it gets in the way of my daily life A LOT, not to mention that many see it as something to make fun of, but we don't act like that by choice! By that I totally understand, so it's great that I was able to convey that through to the reader and the situation she goes through; also factoring in the fact that she's a kid, so things get 100x worse.
Again, thank you so much for the comment, send it whenever you feel like it! I love reading other people's opinions. And again, it warms my heart that the beginning of this series was pleasant for you. I hope to always be improving to bring the best to all of you. 💖
Take care too and have a nice day/night 💞💞

HEART WITHOUT BEAT: Chapter One
Pairing: Neteyam x Fem!Reader
Notes: I'm so nervous about starting this series lol I hope it turns out to be something good. And also, I don't guarantee to post often! I've been so busy lately, so forgive me for future delays. One more thing, this chapter was more about contextualizing your childhood, so it can be kind of boring and shit, I really have a hard time starting stories but it will get better later on, trust me! 😭
Summary: You were in good condition in the way you were, without friends, alone, only you and your mother. But how will your life go from now that you've been thrust into a new group of children and those children turn out to be Toruk Makto's children?
Warnings: A little bit of a childhood panic attack, a little bit of blood… I guess that's all? Very distressed child.

Your mother used to tell you how important it was to have friendships and people to count on during your life. With them, you would never be alone. They would give you directions. But you didn't feel that way.
Having friendships, people important to you, meant that the time to leave would become more painful.
You hadn't lost that many until your present age as a child, only your father whom you also had no valuable memories of. And the reason you thought this way was nothing more than observing how lonely your mother sometimes seemed.
Many times you saw her with a rosary in hand, sad and shaken eyes, along with trembling lips, just whispering to the heavens about her daily life.
Whether she was saying this to the Great Mother, or to her late companion, you didn't know. However, you had no desire to feel that kind of pain. So you assumed that if you didn't have people to care about, you wouldn't suffer the pain of loss.
And that was what you said to your mother when she insists on making you socialize and, every time she was surprised by the way you, just a child, thought. Then she would always give him a tight hug, while murmuring in a voice loaded with sadness, 'It's unfair that you have to think like that.'
But you didn't really care. You always reassured her that as long as you were still together, you were the happiest person in the world. But this only resulted in a shaken look on her face, but as a child, you never understood why.
You were playing alone with some harmless forest critters near a tree, while your mother was nearby picking fruits and herbs for the day's dinner.
You heard footsteps nearby, but just assumed it was other people going about their daily activities, that is until you heard, "What is that stranger doing?"
"Playing with bugs, of course. After all, she doesn't even have the ability to make friends." Laughter followed after the not-so-hidden whispering.
Your ears flopped back and bent slightly at the words, but as usual, you didn't mind the comments and just went on with what you were doing.
You were used to it. It was wrong, but not unusual. The times you tried to talk to other children at your mother's request, it turned out that you didn't make a good impression with most of them. Being too quiet, too explosive and too alone.
You began to be nicknamed various things, and a horrible treatment for a child comes in the package.
Your mother didn't know these things, you didn't want her to know.
Telling her meant that she would have no peace with your worries, and this is definitely the last thing you wanted.
Nevertheless, what was their reason for acting this way? How important was their existence to give them the luxury of belittling you?
You didn't do anything bad, you just wanted to make your mother happy. Why did they make things so difficult?
"Hey weirdo. What are you doing?", one of the boys approached as he looked at you with a mocking look, his friends following right behind.
You didn't want to answer, but you knew how they worked, if you didn't answer, more headache would attract. "Nothing of your interest."
The boy let out an angry snort at the answer. Wanting to touch the wound even more, he didn't give up tormenting you as easily as you wanted him to. "Who taught you to talk like that? Don't you have a father to give you an education?"
You stopped what you were doing and just digested what he had said.
Your mother used to look at you and wonder how you, a small, innocent child, could think of isolating yourself for fear of loss. But if she heard what these so-called innocent children are saying to you now, don't you think she would continue to think that children are such pure beings.
You were once a pure child, a child just wanting to be a child. But from the moment you entered a new social cycle, you realized that the world can be very cruel sometimes.
You would definitely rather keep talking to the bugs on your planet than try to communicate with these ones behind you.
You inhaled deeply, doing your best to hold back the tears that had begun to fill your eyes. The last thing you wanted was to show weakness around them.
"What? Didn't they teach you to talk too-", before the boy could even finish his sentence, you found yourself unable to stop the punch that flew toward his face.
"Don't you ever talk about my father again!!! Do you hear me?! NEVER!". You were so angry, your heart was hurting and tears were wetting your cheeks, you were unable to hold them back. How pathetic.
You just stood there, looking at the boy on the floor who had a bloody nose as he slowly began to scream in pain. His breath was failing, ears glued to your head, and tail lashing out in pure hatred.
Not even a few minutes passed before adults were beginning to circle the area. A woman appeared in front of you grabbing your arm while shaking you. She was yelling at you, asking endless questions. Your arm hurt from the grip.
You were scared. You didn't want to cause your mother any trouble. You were an idiot.
You were able to catch a glimpse in the crowd of a woman trying to make her way through, and as you looked at her, more tears welled up in your eyes, followed by several silent sobs. Would her mother be disappointed to hear what happened?
"Stop, don't hurt her! Ma'Ite!", your mother immediately went to you and took you in her arms, cradling your head as you cried more and more into her neck. You could feel your mother's trembling hands on your head, her voice wavering as she tried to soothe you.
You didn't want to hurt her, you didn't want to see her sad. Your little heart ached to see your mother like this. "Ngaytxoa Sa'nu…", you murmured.
No longer aware of what was going on around you, you just focused your attention on your mother's smell and body temperature.
Would people hate you now? Would they throw you out of the clan? You didn't do what you did out of spite, they were the ones who were mean to you, what fault did you have?
Her mind was full of doubts and fears, but the comforting whispers of her mother were enough to calm her troubled spirit.
"She didn't mean to do that. I'm sure there was a motive behind her actions. She is just a child, please don't blame her."
You were able to hear your mother talking to someone nearby. Presently you found yourself backed into a corner, legs clasped to your chest and face hidden in your arms.
You only brought shame to your mother.
You knew that it would never work to try to settle down with the children of the clan, to make friends. But there was a desire in your heart to see your mother happy, you wanted to make your mother happy.
But you never did the right things.
Your mother was talking to the Olo'eyktan at this moment, who was alarmed because of the great commotion that started after you hit another child.
You prayed to Eywa that your leader would have mercy on you and not kick you out of the Omatikaya clan. Or at least allow your mother to continue living here, she had nothing to do with your actions, she didn't deserve to suffer even more.
Suddenly the next room was silent, and the next thing you heard were soft footsteps coming toward you.
You raised your head to look at the figure in front of you, meeting the gaze of your mother who held out her arms to you as she spread a simple smile on her lips.
"Come on yawne, let's go home." As soon as you stood up, she took you in her arms and placed a gentle kiss on your temple. Your heart warmed at the caress.
"Sa'nu…won't we have to leave?" You murmured, sniffling softly, reaching out your finger to play with one of the beads at the end of your mother's hair.
"Leave? Where to?", as you walked out of the place that appeared to be for Olo'eyktan meetings, your mother asked frowning slightly at your comment.
"From the clan. You see, I have done bad things, they will punish me."
"Oh my baby, no one will go away, we will not go away. They won't do anything to you, I promise."
You were silent for a few minutes, your eyes were beginning to heavy from the calmness you were feeling in your mother's arms. The day was full, you were exposed to many emotions and conflicts. Your little body was beginning to succumb to the overload of the day.
"I just want you to be honest with me, honey. Why did you do that? Mommy won't fight with you." Your mother slowly asked, just testing the waters. She could feel you tense up in her arms and it didn't help to ease her worries.
"It was nothing, really." You hid your face in the curve of your mother's neck. You believed that if she saw you, she would know immediately what happened and you didn't want that.
"Don't lie to your mother." When you finally reached the tent, your mother came in and immediately put you down to begin preparing something for you to eat.
You walked to a corner and sat there, just watching your mother's fluid movements around the tent. You were happy to be in a peaceful environment now.
Your mother let out a soft sigh, sitting down by the newly lit campfire as she peeled some of the fruit they still had stored there.
She was so distraught by the sudden commotion that began around her daughter that she forgot to pick up the items she had been gathering earlier. You were lucky that there were enough leftovers for a dinner party.
"Do you really plan to hide this from your Sa'nok?", she asked quietly, letting you answer in your own time.
You didn't answer right away, eyes beginning to glisten with new tears as you kept a sob from escaping your throat. Your mother was patient, she waited who knows how long until you finally plucked up the courage to say, "They were bad."
Your mother stopped her movements, digesting your words as your heart sank with the meaning. "Bad how?"
Again silence. You were afraid to say it, afraid of what might happen. You just wanted to forget everything and go on living as if nothing had happened. But you know your mother…she wouldn't let it go so easily, especially not after your previous statement. "They call me bad names…and make fun of me for not having a father."
Her mother didn't know what to respond. She didn't imagine that the simple fact that her father was not alive, united to your family, would be a reason for others to hurt her little heart.
She was not as naive as she seemed. She knew very well how cruel people can be, regardless of their age.
It was a fact that she wanted you to make good friends, your mother hated to see you lonely, playing only with her since you were born.
However, she didn't insist so much, because she knew the difficulty you had. But she didn't expect that the difficulty was because others weren't good with you. She hadn't paid enough attention to see how her daughter was suffering.
And this filled her inside with sadness. Your mother didn't know how to respond or how to comfort you. She only wanted you to have a happy childhood, just as she had promised your father, "I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you, 'Itetsyìp."
You looked up in surprise at your mother, who went back to preparing dinner again. "No, Sa'nok has nothing to do with it. It's not your fault." Your voice was a little shaky, your energy was depleted, but you needed to take this weight off your mother's back, none of this was her fault. "Please don't blame yourself."
Your mother sighed again, she noticed how you wanted to avoid the subject, she saw the weariness in your eyes and how your little body trembled slightly. Not wanting to burden you further, especially with your shortcomings as a mother, she decided to end the matter right there. "All right, let's not talk about it anymore. Now come, the food is practically ready."
A few days had passed since the accident with you and the other children. You and your mother didn't receive such good treatment after that, always being surrounded by rumors and gossip.
The truth is, they don't exactly respect you. They just looked up to the brave warrior their father was.
He would be disappointed by the way these people are acting. But it is how it is.
What you were avoiding ended up happening. Several women were glaring at your mother, keeping their children away from you, afraid that you would hurt them too.
Frankly, you were not a monster, you were just protecting yourself in that situation. But as always, people were too ignorant to know the truth, not much could be done.
Despite this, his mother slowly grew closer to Olo'eyktan's family, more specifically, to Neytiri, Toruk Makto's wife.
Neytiri also participated in the conversation between Jake and his mother, and she confesses that she wanted to punish you at first, thinking you were just another troublemaking child. But upon hearing your story, her soul was softened by the mother-daughter family.
The two became good friends and you were glad for it. Your mother was happier these days. The only problem was that both adults wanted to drag you into the Sully children's group, especially Neytiri, saying your kids were great children and would definitely be nice to you. But trying again was not an option.
"Ma'Ite, trust your Sa'nok, they are good children. Their oldest is your age, isn't that nice?", your mother had been trying for some time to convince you to go with her to the Sully family tent. She and Neytiri had arranged to have a little get-together to weave utensils while just catching up.
You were happy with that new friendship, but why were you also a victim?
"Sa'nok, I'll be fine on my own! I don't want to go." You said it again, arms folded across your chest as you gave your mother a dumb pout, trying your best to convince her. But again, it was inefficient.
Your mother knelt down in front of you, took your little hands in hers, and said, "Look, let's make a deal, you go this time, and if they're mean to you, you don't have to go anymore, how about it?"
Honestly, you wanted to deny it again and keep going against your mother's requests. But as you looked into her pleading eyes, you felt a twinge deep inside you. Your mother also seemed to be a child at times, and it was so hard to cope.
Her ears drooped slightly, tail wagging from side to side, conveying her disgust. But all that really came out of her mouth was a low murmur, "That's unfair…".
Your mother hugged you, a warm, loving hug. And then before she said anything, she deposited a kiss on your cheek, passing comfort and protection. "I will be there to protect you, hm? Sa'nu believes you will enjoy yourself."
You just nodded in affirmation. Your mother placed one last kiss on the top of your head, stood up, and took your small hand in hers to start down the path to the tent of the well-known Sullys.
When you got there, you promptly hid behind your mother's legs, while she had one of her hands on your head as a way of telling you that everything was fine.
Neytiri came out to welcome you, and soon her smile broadened as she saw the small child hiding behind her new friend. She made a nod of greeting to her mother, placing her fingers in the middle of her forehead and then pulling them apart. Then she shifted her focus to you. "Hello little one, I'm very happy to see you here."
You didn't know how exactly to respond to the older woman's greeting, so you just buried your face in your mother's leg for protection. You were a little embarrassed in the woman's presence, she was very beautiful.
Neytiri giggled at the innocent action and made way for you to pass. It wasn't exactly the family tent, but it was an open place full of trinkets. It was a comfortable environment where the noises of the forest were quiet and there was also good fresh air.
"My kids are just down there playing in the lake, Jake is looking after them too, you can go down and meet them", Neytiri said pointing to the lake below, sending you a reassuring smile in the process.
You took a step back shaking your head in denial. Starting to feel a sour taste in your mouth, you almost instantly regret agreeing to go there.
Noticing your distress, your mother's figure promptly crouched down to your level, placed her hands on your little face and soothed you. "'Ite. Ma'Ite, calm down. I'm here, see?", she slid a finger on your cheek, staring into your eyes so you could see that everything was all right. "Mama will be here all the time, there is nothing to fear. I promise, and Eywa can punish me if I'm wrong, they won't do anything bad to you, yes?"
She calmly brought her foreheads together, noticing how you were slowly starting to calm down, "I've met them before, they are such sweet children, give them a chance."
You closed your eyes, taking a deep breath and considering the options you had. You could just run away from there, get out of this confrontational situation, but your mother would be very hurt. Just you going there with her was enough to cheer her up. You had no right to take that happiness away from her.
And also, above all, your wish was to one day become a brave warrior, one of the best in the clan, just like your father. To have a strong and determined heart, to be respected and praised by all, like Toruk Makto.
But how would you do this if just the idea of having to talk to new people scared you? You would never be a good warrior at this rate, after all, there is no way to protect those you are afraid of.
So, with one last inhale of air, you replied in a voice almost like a whisper, "I will, Sa'nok."
Your mother turned away slightly to look at your small baby-fat face, a wide smile opening on her lips. "That's my little one." With a final kiss on your forehead, she lightly nudged you down to the lake, sending you a few more words of encouragement.
Taking one last look back, you've finally started on your way down to the lake.
What seemed like an eternity to you.
Arriving at the site, you were able to see Toruk Makto sitting on a rock near the lake, with a small baby girl in his arms. Her mother said that she was her recently born daughter, Tuktirey. And among the others, the oldest of them was your age, that is, eight years old. You were a little nervous about this, you believed that the younger the child was, the easier it was to handle.
That's because they were less intelligent than you.
You didn't know why, but your mother laughed the time you conveyed that line of thought to her. It was just the truth, wasn't it? She found it surprising how a child your age could think such mature thoughts. Well, they were probably what the circumstances demanded.
As you approached, you noticed how noisy the place was because of the shouting and laughing that the Sully children were doing. They seemed to be having a good time.
Jake was quick to notice your presence there and how hesitant you seemed to be to come any closer. He had been aware of your 'antisocial' situation when he first talked to his mother. Neytiri had also told him that if you ever had the courage to go to them, he should be kind to you and help you to integrate with your children.
So he thought that striking up a conversation with you would be the best option at the moment. "Hi little girl, did you come to play with the hurricanes over there?"
You were slightly startled to realize that the question was directed at you, but your face conveyed an image of confusion at the way he referred to his own children. 'They... were hurricanes?'
You didn't answer in words and just nodded. Jake smiled and held back the laugh he wanted to let out because of his nervousness, it would be mean of him if he laughed.
Then he looked again in the direction of your children and said in a loud voice, "Hey, there's a new little girl here who wants to play with you, be nice to her and include her in the game."
You froze. The three children's gazes were directed at you now. A horrible feeling settled in your stomach.
You still had a chance to escape. Run far, far away from there. But even your legs wouldn't allow it, being pinned firmly to the ground preventing any movement.
One of the children came towards you and stopped a few meters away. He seemed to be a few inches shorter than you, so you assumed he was younger. The boy stared at you for a few seconds, seemingly expecting you to say something, but seeing that you wouldn't, he quickly said, "My name is Lo'ak! Now that we've met, can we go play?"
"You skxawng, she hasn't even introduced herself yet!", the girl, who you assumed was Kiri from your mother's lines, went towards the boy and slapped him behind the head. You could tell that Lo'ak was not very happy with her sister's actions and started a little fight with her. You didn't know whether to laugh or be amazed at the situation.
Ignoring the other two, the eldest among them walked towards you, stopping just in front of you with one hand outstretched towards you as he introduced himself, "My name is Neteyam, it is a pleasure to meet you."
You looked at him with slightly wide eyes. You wanted to laugh at the way he sounded like an adult talking, even though you were the same age.
The other's presence aroused your attention by the way that a "responsible" aura covered him even at such a young age.
You didn't feel so afraid of this boy. He didn't look like a bad guy. At least not like those who had hurt you before. Maybe that was just the effect of being the eldest son of Toruk Makto, the Olo'eyktan of his clan. But Neteyam gave you confidence, and for just a second you allowed yourself to believe that this time there was a small chance it could really work out.
Imitating the strange action, you hesitantly shook his hand as you assumed it should be. With a smile on his face satisfied that you had responded to his actions, Neteyam asked you one last question to finally finish the 'rite' of friendship, and you found yourself secretly happy for the question. One you weren't used to receiving often by others. And so, maybe, just maybe, this time Eywa blessed her with great and good friends.
"So, what's your name?"

HEART WITHOUT BEAT Masterlist✧*:.。.
Notes: I want to say right away that it's the first series I'm going to do, so be patient, I'll do my best!
SYNOPSIS
Pairing: Neteyam x Fem!Reader
You never had many important people in your life. In fact, the only person you really love and care about is your mother. That's because your father died a few years ago in the war against the Sky People, before you were even born, so now it was just you and your mother.
It makes you sad to think that... you will never have the opportunity to know your father in person, but only for memories, to know his soul in the sacred tree. But you are truly happy only with the stories your mother tells you.
Anyway, where it was just you and her, it ended up increasing the social cycle a bit. Your mother would constantly push you into groups of kids to try and form a bond, but you were always against it.
You tried, you really tried. But many of them were mean to you, made you feel uncomfortable and constantly pestered you with mean nicknames. So you always ended up running to your mother.
It was pathetic, you didn't deny it. But you were just a kid. A scared and alone child.
But there was a day when his mother formed bonds with the woman of the Olo'eyktan, and became very close to her. Building a friendship with the woman brought her children in the package. Your mother saw this as an opportunity to bring you trusted friends.
That's how you met the strange Sully children. They were endearing, but still scared him a little. That is, until the eldest of them does his best to please the adults, and include you in their group... but was it really just the others' pleasement, or the little one's sheer curiosity?
After your mother's death, this time it was inevitable that you would have contact with the new family. In fact, they adopted you as part of them. Guilt ate at you for not having answered your mother's request in life, you promised you won't be alone anymore. Or at least that's what you had in mind.

Tumblr media
The sun was high in the sky by now. You were sitting leaning against a tree near the camp, weaving some baskets. After all, it was one of the only activities you were capable of doing right now.
Not wanting to play the victim, which you certainly are not, you were unable to do activities that required much body movement or strength. In the last few weeks you were experiencing many contractions and extreme pain. Your feet were swollen and it felt like you were carrying a Thanator on your back. Honestly, it couldn't get any worse.
Therefore, your only choice was to do simple tasks that were even assigned to children. You felt useless, it really was not a pleasant state.
But what relieved your stress was knowing that your baby will soon arrive. Soon she will be in your arms, babbling something or crying for your attention. You were anxious. Both to get rid of that awful end-of-pregnancy feeling and to finally feel the warmth of your child.
You were quiet, humming songs as you enjoyed the fresh air of your home and the sounds of nature. Definitely a planet blessed by your divinity.
A few seconds later you finished making the last basket of the day. In total there were three, which you considered to be enough so far. Deciding to take your handiwork to the people in the clan who would use it, you got up from the ground to start your way back to the camp. You certainly had a hard time getting up, heavens, your back was killing you, but nothing that a little effort wasn't enough.
That is until you felt a sharp pain in your abdomen and something warm trickle down your thighs.
No. This couldn't be what you thought it was.
A wave of panic began to wash over you as you let out agonized groans from the extreme pain you were feeling.
Why now? Why just now?? Couldn't that have waited a few minutes to happen?!
You had to act fast. You had to go to Mo'at. You had to tell them your baby was coming. But what guarantee was there that you would make it there?
Leaning against the trunk of the tree, you put your hand on your belly and start trying to breathe to calm your heartbeat, but your breath is coming in between cuts. You are losing strength in your legs and the pain is unbearable.
"Hold on baby. Just wait a little longer. We're coming…" Muttering to yourself both as a way to keep calm, and also to keep your focus on the hike, you start walking toward the camp. If you found anyone along the way, that would be good enough. They might be able to help. "Ah Great Mother… I won't make it."
Tears welled up in your eyes. You didn't want to do this alone. You couldn't. You were too afraid of what might happen.
But you also had no strength left in your body. Your legs were shaking, still trying to hold on, and your abdomen was throbbing. It was unbearable. Waves of frustration covered you as your only option was to sit back down on the floor and pray to Eywa that someone would come to help you.
You felt more and more contractions and at this point you could only scream and accept the fact that you would have to deliver the baby yourself.
What an idea of yours to distance yourself from the camp. You could be at home, in your own comfort. But you wanted and needed fresh air.
Jake had become ten times more protective of you, preventing you from going out much, or if you did, was in the company of someone. You understand his concern; you could go into labor at any moment. But it doesn't change that you still missed doing things on your own. Well, that desire of yours led to this situation at the moment.
To make matters worse, you wouldn't have the chance to find your children around, nor your husband. Jake, Neteyam and Lo'ak were out doing their daily training, and Kiri was also studying and learning with her grandmother. They are still children, but it is the best thing to learn at a young age.
With your back resting on the trunk of the tree, you begin to take deep breaths to calm your hiccups and prepare yourself for the next steps. There was no more time, you would have to do it yourself.
That is until you hear footsteps behind you.
It couldn't be a predator. Although you were not exactly in the camp, you were in a nearby location. Wild animals don't go near there because they were aware that there were too many people to deal with. So it is a safe area. But it could also only mean one thing…
It is someone walking there!
And it was just a soul she needed to call for help.
"Grandma told me to get purple seeds, but I've been looking for so long and I can't find anything! Come on…" Kiri was frustrated that she couldn't find the ingredient that her grandmother had charged her to get. But she kept walking.
Until she heard moans of pain and quiet sniffling behind a tree. This startled her a little, but then she thought 'Is anyone hurt?'
Walking cautiously to the spot to check, she came across her mother. She was on the floor looking like she was in pain, sweat covering her entire body as tears streamed from her eyes. It felt like her heart stopped for a second at the sight.
"Sa'nok? What's wrong?!", Kiri crouched down next to her mother, as she started to look around her for apparent injuries. Her eyes fell on her wet legs and her hand resting on her stomach.
"Mom… that's not-"
"Kiri! Oh heavens, thank you. Kiri, my child, go get your grandmother. I need you to get her over here as fast as you can, please!" Her voice was hoarse from crying over the pain, along with the emotion that consumed her that Eywa had listened to her prayers and directed Kiri to you.
"But mother, I can't leave you, not like this-"
"Kiri, it will be all right. I need you to get your grandmother. Now. Hurry!"
Kiri didn't even think straight before her little legs were running towards her grandmother's tent. Even if she gets there quickly, her grandmother won't be able to speed up her steps that much. Seeing her mother in that state terrified her. How long were you there suffering alone? With no one to take away her fear.
Kiri had never run so hard in her life, her lungs were burning for air and her mouth was dry. On the way to the tents, Kiri came across ikrans landing nearby. It was her father and her brothers.
"Hi babygirl, why are you in such a hurry-", Jake was cut off by the pleading voice of Kiri who was gasping for air.
"Sempul! Go to mommy, she needs your help. She's near the tree she usually stands to weave things. Now I need to go to grandma, please take care of mommy!", Kiri didn't even give her father a chance to answer or ask any questions before running back to her grandma. Jake was alarmed by his daughter's tone and her haste. Putting the pieces together, Jake's mind could only think of one thing.
His baby is coming.
Before he could even draw that conclusion, he found himself running frantically to the tree his daughter had said, being followed by his other children. "No, you go back home. Tell Kiri to stay too", Jake shouted over his shoulder, still seeing his children following him.
"We can't stay home, mommy needs help!", Lo'ak tried to argue but only received a warning look from Jake.
"Stay. I'm ordering", Jake spoke in a firmer voice, noticing how his children stopped in their running and just looked at his back. Jake wasn't sure if you would want your children watching your sister deliver her baby and they could only make the situation worse by asking questions. Therefore, he had no choice.
Concentrating on the road ahead, Jake finally arrives at the place informed and is confronted with their pleading and agonized cries. It breaks his heart. If Kiri hadn't found you, what would have happened? Would you have had to go through this alone? He imagines how terrified you must have been.
"Hey, hey, are you all right? I'm here", Jake took your hand and squeezed it gently to convey his support. You didn't have to suffer without anyone anymore.
"I look fine to you-", your speech was cut off by the scream you let out from the sudden contraction you felt. You had forgotten what a hellish pain childbirth was. Even though you had already done it twice, you will definitely never get used to the feeling. "Ah Great Mother… give me strength." More tears rolled down your face as you continued to scream and squeeze Jake's hand.
Jake was never going to get used to this phenomenon either. It was terrifying to say the least to watch the birthing process. He hated to see you suffer, hated that only you had to go through this pain. But he was thrilled at the idea that his baby was finally coming. Jake's heart was starting to soften.
A few minutes had passed with Jake trying to comfort you, his wife, until Mo'at arrived on the scene. When she arrived, she didn't even exchange words properly before going to between your legs and analyzing the situation.
"You are already very dilated. I apologize for not being here sooner, my child. But now I need you to spread your legs wider and push."
You didn't even think long before you pushed it out. You couldn't wait any longer, everything hurt. Your body felt like it was going to break in half. Jake knew you had such strength in your hand at the birth of your first child, but man, he really was always scared. It's amazing that his hand didn't break.
Your throat hurt from screaming so much, and your lower half was numb. Mo'at said that she was already starting to see the child, so she encouraged you to continue.
But how? Frankly, you were running out of strength. This is definitely the most difficult labor of the previous two. You wanted to scream at Eywa and ask her to get it over with, but you could only let out shaky sighs as you continued your labor.
This baby will be a blessing, you will love it as much as the others, you couldn't wait to hold it in your arms. But it's Jake's fault that you're lying there on the floor in pain.
After a lot of sacrifice, a lot of effort, a lot of tears and pain. You were finally able to hear your son's cry. Or rather, daughter.
It was a girl, a beautiful little girl.
You laid your head down on the support Mo'at had placed for you, while you stabilized your breathing. You were exhausted, feeling like you might pass out at any moment. Your body was disgusting and sticky, covered in sweat and blood. It was a little frustrating. But what kept you from exhaustion was the beautiful cry of your daughter. It was one of the most beautiful sounds you had ever heard.
Mo'at handed the baby into Jake's trembling hands as she thanked Eywa for the blessing. There were tears in her eyes and a wide smile on her lips.
Jake held his daughter in his arms with the greatest care in the world. Tears ran down his cheeks as he talked to the baby to calm her down. "She's so… beautiful."
You let out a weak laugh, more tears filling your eyes. You were thrilled to see Jake's infectious smile, to see your beautiful baby standing there. "Thank you, Big Mom. Thank you."
Jake brought the baby close to you and gently placed her on your chest. She was fussy, crying, but the moment she felt your mother's warmth, she calmed down. Jake helped you support the baby, since you didn't have much strength to hold her. He laughed at the way a small smile settled on the baby's mouth, resulting in an even bigger one from you.
"What's it going to be named, yawntu?", Jake asked, depositing a delicate kiss on your forehead. It was so soft that you thought you had imagined it.
Analyzing the little face of your daughter, you mentally thanked Eywa once again for blessing you with another pure little being in your life. You were very happy.
"Tuk. Tuktirey. That is the name of our new star."
"Mom, can I hold her?" Lo'ak was on his side, just looking at his little sister sleeping on the cloth that was pinned to his chest.
He was not one to admit or call others cute. But in this case it was inevitable. His new baby sister was so cute and cuddly! Her little hands clasped tightly near her mouth to bite, which looked disgusting since she had no teeth.
"If you hold it, you'll knock her over, skxawng", not even looking at her brother, Kiri said with her usual debauched tone. She couldn't take her eyes off her little sister either, her chubby body being too cute to look away.
Neteyam, like his brothers, was inside the small circle they formed around you, who were preparing dinner that day. As an older brother, he was thrilled to gain another sister. He would not speak aloud, but he was afraid that it was another boy, Lo'ak was already enough to handle. Anyway, he was also itching to hold her, but he didn't have the courage to ask like Lo'ak. But not only that, he was also afraid of knocking over or hurting his precious Tuk, so just looking at her was enough. Neteyam already loved her as much as his other brothers did.
"I know you all want to pick up and play with your sister, but she is sleeping now. When she wakes up, you guys can talk to Tuk all you want", you said looking fondly at each of your little ones, noticing the almost nil disappointment in their eyes. You let out a giggle at that.
Jake silently snuck up behind you, slipping his big arms around your waist and resting his chin on your shoulder, depositing a lingering kiss on your neck in the process. "Yes. And anyway, only I can hold the TukTuk."
You rolled your eyes at the comment. The children frowned at their father and then said 'That's unfair!'. Jake loved to tease them.
"Sure, sure, Jake Sully", you turned your head to look into his face and deposited a gentle kiss on his lips. "Now go play! You're getting in the way of my food preparation. You too Ma'Jake."
Lo'ak didn't want to leave Tuk's side, she was stronger than he was. But Neteyam dragged him to the other corner of the hut, Kiri saying goodbye to her little sister and following right behind.
Jake and his stubborn spirit, on the other hand, remained motionless in the same place. You sighed and just continued to season the meat to put on the fire to roast later. "And the big baby, will you unglue?"
"I know you don't want me far away", he came closer to you, if it was possible, and began depositing kisses and kisses all over your neck and shoulder. That got you a few gasps and a tickle.
"Pff, how proud you are, huh."
A comfortable silence settled between you, only listening to the screams of the children, probably fighting among themselves over some toy. Neteyam seemed a little lost in the middle not knowing whether to indulge his desire to also fight, or to separate his siblings.
You were more than happy to have this family. You couldn't want anything else in your life. Eywa blessed you with everything beautiful.
Your younger self would never imagine or even think about the possibility of having a family. Your own family. And you're not sure what your former self would think. But your younger self is definitely very happy now. You can only thank Great Mother, and Jake, for coming into your life.
With each moment your heart was filled with more and more affection. So much love that it overflowed and you didn't know what to spend it on; Jake and you have surely raised the most beautiful and sweetest children in all of Pandora.
"We could have one more."
And then silence. Your movements simply stopped and you turned your face to look at him in shock.
"Jake, are you kidding? We just had another baby!"
"What? We can always do more, right?", Jake sank his face into the curve of your neck, inhaling your sweet scent as he listened to your incredulous laugh. "I can always fill you up with more."
"You are unbelievable sometimes, Jake Sully." You didn't know how to react to your husband's comment. He says that, but when your kids get ready, the first thing he says is 'No more kids!'
You removed Jake's arms from around you, turned around and put your hands on his face, then murmured, "Maybe on our next date night."
There wasn't even time for the man to react before you added to your previous sentence, "Now help me with dinner. I need to finish for you before Tuk wakes up."
Jake pulled himself together and let out a loud laugh before giving you a hug, taking care of the baby on his chest. You were startled, but couldn't stop the smile that was forming on your lips as you heard him whisper, "Thank you, for everything, my love."
"I who thank you, tìyawn."

Tumblr media
You awoke early that morning, feeling ready to make a productive day of it. Stretching, you got up from the hammock and looked around, missing the presence of your companion, who by the looks of it began his work as head of the Omatikaya Clan early in the morning. You are somewhat saddened to wake up away from Jake's body heat, missing his big arms around you and his loving kisses all over your face. But you have gotten used to it, after all it was a necessary evil.
Standing up, you observed your children still sleeping in a deep slumber. The clan started their activities early in the day, when the sun was just beginning to rise, but you thought it unnecessary to wake your children that early, then you go do what needs to be done while they stay in the tent resting. That is until Jake came to them and got them out of bed to start their day's activities.
While still looking at the sleeping children, her eyes fixed on Lo'ak for a moment. He was having little spasms in his sleep, probably because of some dream he had been having. You let out a small laugh at this; Lo'ak was usually agitated even in his sleep. His brothers complained about how he disturbed them with his nocturnal mumblings or kicks that they were liable to get because they were close.
After standing still for long enough, you finally got ready and left the tent.
A few months had passed, so your belly was very swollen at this point. You felt heavy and sluggish, but you smiled widely every time you felt your little baby kick your belly, which wasn't the case today since he was probably also sleeping like his other siblings.
As you walked a bit, you met up with some elders who greeted you respectfully. You asked if there was anything you could help with and, as expected, you were assigned something simple. Picking fruit and herbs for the clan's food preparation.
You didn't really mind doing simple tasks, you just didn't like being treated like a fragile piece of glass just because of your pregnant state. It wasn't uncommon for pregnant Na'vi women to help hunt with the others (only in simpler hunts in this case), so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for you to help.
You loved hunting, it made you feel useful to your clan and to your family, not to mention that others appreciated your help. You were a very good hunter, if not one of the best. You were agile and very good with the bow, being one of the main people in the clan to have exceptional aim, so being away from these activities misses you.
The main person to somehow force you not to hunt is none other than, himself, your faithful companion, Jake Sully.
He was already extremely protective of you in the early stages of pregnancy, but now that your belly was huge and you tired more easily, he protected you from even the most harmless creatures of Pandora.
Honestly, you were angry with him for it. Sometimes his constant protection was suffocating and made you feel like a child. But more childish is Jake and his stubbornness. No matter how much you argued, you would always be at square one of 'No hunting at all'.
Sighing, you settled for going after the items necessary for food preparation. At least that gave you a calming stroll with only your own presence among the flora of Pandora.
Jake had been searching for a family member for some time.
He went into his shared tent to, as usual, wake up his children to start the day. In the process he expected to find you and sprinkle you with kisses since he was unable to do that when he left the tent earlier.
However, the only thing he came across was the deadly silence of the environment and the stillness of the surroundings.
This was not normal. It definitely was not.
Their children didn't disappear like that. Even if they woke up before he arrived to wake them up, they usually stayed at home helping you with something or just enjoying themselves before Jake dragged them out.
But that wasn't the case today. There was no one in the tent, not even you.
This made your stomach turn and a bitter feeling settle in your throat. Nothing bad had happened, right?
The kids could have just gone out to play without waiting for him to arrive and you must have gone to do something. Yes, that's definitely it.
But even if it is, Jake was unable to stop the worry bubbling up inside him and the present despair he plunged into. Jake turned on his heels and hurried out of the tent in search of his children or you, whichever it was.
As he walked through the clan, Jake stopped the first person who appeared in front of him and began frantically asking questions in search of answers.
"Änsit! Oh my God, help me", Jake made the woman who was walking calmly with a basket in her arms stop abruptly at the mention of her name and turn with a look of astonishment to face the man who called out to her.
"Olo'eyktan, Oel ngati kameie. What's wrong?", the woman inquired, analyzing her leader's expressions and seeing how desperate and helpless the man is. What could be so bad that could have happened to make her great leader so frightened like this?
Jake swallowed the saliva that had built up in his mouth as he tried to stabilize his breathing, and then quickly said: "My children, have you seen them? Or their mother?"
He was able to see how the woman's body tensed for a few seconds and a worried expression took over from the previous one. This did not help ease his worries, in fact, it only made them worse.
"No, no, I didn't see them, any of them. Did something happen?"
Jake's heart froze, it wasn't possible for his noisy sons not to have made a presence in the clan yet, someone should have seen it. But he didn't have time to go out interrogating every soul he could find in front of him, his only option was to act and look for them on his own.
"Okay, thanks. If you see them, have someone let me know. For now I need to go", Jake didn't even give Änsit a chance to reason through the situation before he rushed back to search for you and your children.
He had been walking for a while and the situation was only getting worse. He could not calm his troubled heart and his eyes were beginning to fill with tears for fear that something might have happened.
In his search time he had heard that you had gone out early to help the elderly women with their search for fruits, herbs and derivatives, but so far there has been no return from you.
Jake was in the middle of the forest currently as the sun was high in the sky. He was breaking into a cold sweat as he continued to shout his name and that of his children. How could this have happened? How could he let you disappear like this?
Guilt was consuming him as worry settled in his lungs making it difficult to breathe. His throat was beginning to rasp from the many times he had called out their names. He refused to give up and knew that one hour you would answer him.
"Lo'ak! Neteyam!!" Jake continued walking and started to walk in between some trees in the process, still continuing with his call. "Kiri?! Oh Great Mother… Children, I ask you to answer me-", he was silenced by distant voices in front of him. He became still, so deadly still that it was possible to hear his heartbeat against his ribcage, just focusing on listening to the various voices behind the trees.
"Lo'ak, I will not repeat, watch out for the rocks!"
"Right Sa'nok. I am skilled, I will not get hurt."
"Sure you are", a sarcastic voice was heard soon after, pouring debauchery into every word, "Who was the fool who slipped last time and grated his entire knee?"
"Shut up Kiri!"
"Watch the lingo, Lo'ak!"
A commotion followed soon after, sounds of splashing water and screaming children filled the place. Jake would recognize those voices even on his deathbed, they were the voices that annoyed him some days, but lit up all his mornings.
He let out the breath he hadn't even realized he was holding. A shaky sigh left his lips; his legs slackened for a few seconds as relief flooded his entire being.
Jake didn't know that those voices were the sweetest thing he had ever heard in his entire life. He never wanted to listen to the silence again.
Making his way through the greenery, Jake could finally see the scene in front of him. Small children were playing in the small pond that had settled there, while a more delicate figure with a large round part in place of a stomach was sitting on the ground peeling some fruit in its basket.
It was the most beautiful sight he had ever witnessed. Although Jake was angry that you had disappeared without trace or warning, the anger was soon replaced by passion and affection for his family. Jake loved them so much, so much that his heart ached. And to think that soon they would have an extra member there, running and jumping along with their other children. Jake could not contain the smile that insisted on appearing on his lips.
Walking toward you, Jake sat down beside you while resting his head on your shoulder, making you jump from where you were standing from the fright you got.
"Ah my Eywa. What a fright Jake Sully! What did I say about sneaky approaches?" You shot him a scolding look as you calmed your heartbeat.
"I'm sorry. But I guess I'm the only one who should be angry here, because why did you disappear without even telling me? The children… do you know how desperate I was to chase after you?", his voice was firm, wanting to scold you, but you could feel the desperation in his speech.
Your lips curved upward slightly as you put your knife and fruit away in the basket beside you, only to take Jake's hands and entwine them together. "I'm sorry, love, I did not mean that. I took the opportunity of you not being around to serve as some help to the clan since you make me unable to do so in your presence", you said with a playful tone that drew a snort coming from Jake, which you just ignored and continued, "I was really going to do what I was assigned and return to join the elders, however, as I was gathering the necessary ingredients, I felt small bodies cling to my leg demanding that I play with them. Your children woke up energized today."
You and Jake shifted their focus to the children diving into the pond ahead, realizing that they probably hadn't even noticed their father's presence yet.
Jake moved even closer to you and deposited a light kiss on your lips, so soft that you were almost unable to register it. Then he lowered his face and deposited an even more loving kiss on your round belly, then you were able to hear him murmur, "I was very afraid that something might have happened to you."
Your heart squeezed at those words and you felt guilty. It wasn't fair to Jake to suddenly disappear without warning, you were a little upset this morning, but it still wasn't a reason. You can imagine the constant desperation he had been in before he found you.
The only option you found yourself able to do to soothe your companion's distressed heart was to get up and sit on his lap, wrapping your arms around Jake's neck and resting your forehead against his. "Forgive me, tìyawn", you deposited a longer kiss on Jake's mouth, pulling away minimally to whisper something that only the two of you were able to hear, "What can I do to end your fears?"
Before Jake was able to answer, you were able to hear voices of disgust behind you.
"Ew… Daddy, how long have you been here doing disgusting things?", Kiri asked as she hid her face behind her older brother so she wouldn't be able to see anything else.
"You disappear without a trace and when you see me you're already saying these things to me?", Jake took you from his lap as gently as possible, placing a quick kiss on your cheek. He got up and slowly started walking towards his children with his arms outstretched. "Am I supposed to shower you with kisses as punishment for all the hell you put me through today?"
Your children let out startled cries as they ran to protect themselves from their father's strong arms, Lo'ak colliding head-on with Neteyam in the process, causing Kiri to squirm with laughter and end up falling into the arms of Jake who was showering her with kisses all over her little face.
You started to laugh out loud at your family's pranks. You cherished moments like that and they made them memories too special to fix in your head. You cracked a smile as more laughter was heard coming from Jake, Neteyam, Lo'ak and Kiri. That is until your smile widened even more (if that was possible) as you felt your baby kicking your belly. Placing your hand on your stomach, you were able to feel the baby's excitement, as if it was sharing all the energy coming from its siblings.
You knew that surely this little being in your belly would be just as energetic as your current little ones. And it made you realize how blessed you truly were.
You would be scolded later for not having taken the promised ingredients to the elders. But that's okay, the light of your family was able to make you overcome any challenge.

The story took a different turn than I expected, but in the end I liked it! I hope I was able to convey well the father jake desperate for his missing family lmao✨️

"Dad."
"Daddy, wake up!"
With a muffled sigh, Jake reluctantly opens his eyes. His eyes burn from the lack of hours of sleep and his fatigue. He waits for his eyes to adjust their focus on a little blue face just above him.
"What happened?", Jake props himself up on his elbow as he looks around alarmed trying to find any sign of danger.
"It's Mom, she rushed out of our tent. She doesn't look well at all, and well, we didn't know what to do", Neteyam said with a worried look on his face, watching his father sit up and reason through the situation. It was still early in the morning and he really hadn't been able to sleep properly the last few days because of his responsibilities as Olo'eyktan and, well, as a father of three children.
Lo'ak and Kiri were also awake, equally worried waiting for some response coming from their father.
"Okay, fine. Thanks for letting me know. Where is she now?", Jake asked looking at his children as he stood up.
"Outside by the trees."
"Okay, go back to sleep, I will take care of your mother", Jake's voice contained concern, but he did his best to mask it and not worry his children further.
Kiri looked at her father in disbelief, stepping in front of him and stopping his passage, "Let's not go to sleep knowing something is wrong with Mom! Daddy, I want to help."
"It's okay babygirl, I'll take care of it. Then go back to bed now, I don't want to see anyone sleepy when they wake up!"
"But Dad-"
"That's all", Jake narrowed his eyes at the three of them and nodded his head towards the bed, Then he turned and hurried away to come to you.
You definitely weren't feeling well. You were experiencing frequent vomiting and dizziness, and you also felt weaker and more tired. Despite this, you were used to it from your other times of pregnancy.
Anyway, today was not an abnormal day. You woke up sweating along with a sour feeling in your throat. You immediately ran to the middle of the trees to get whatever was in your stomach out, taking as much care as possible not to wake any of your children and even your husband who deserved to rest, even more so with the stress he had been under in the last weeks because of problems in the clan.
The early morning air relieved the intense heat you felt throughout your body. You breathed for a few seconds and then finally got rid of the horrible feeling that persisted in settling in your throat.
As you recovered from the episode, you paid no attention to the cautious footsteps behind you and jumped when you felt large hands on your neck caressing them. Your ear crunched against your skull as your head turned full back to detect the intruder.
"Hey, hey, calm down, it's me, Jake", he said stopping in front of you and showing that he wasn't some kind of predator or anything.
"Ah, damn it Jake! Don't sneak up on people like that!", you hissed at him as you slapped his arm.
"Okay, I'm sorry, I'm sorry", Jake put his hands on your head caressing you as he said, "So, is everything okay? Why didn't you wake me up to help you?"
You looked away from Jake's face ashamed of the state you were in. There was no reason to be embarrassed, this was common and it's not like this was your first time, you knew that. But you still felt uncomfortable waking Jake who was sleeping so peacefully, "It's just…. I could handle it on my own, there was no reason to bother you."
Jake sighed, turning you towards him as he placed his hands on your neck lightly brushing your cheeks, "Honey, no matter what the situation, you will never be a bother to me. Even more so when it involves you and my baby", Jake concluded by placing a kiss on your nose and pressing your foreheads together.
Her heart filled with love. You don't know how much good you did in life to have a family as beautiful as yours. Jake and your children were the greatest blessing the Great Mother could give you.
You smiled, resting your hands on Jake's arm. You just enjoyed that moment with him for a few seconds, and then said, "I love you, Ma'Jake."
Jake wrapped his arms around you in a tight embrace, savoring the warmth and presence of his mate, the one who gave him the most beautiful family in existence, one he could never have imagined having. The one who blessed her mornings and made her heart melt when she heard her groggy voice when she woke up. "I love you too, tiyawn. But you really need to call me when you're not feeling well."
You let out a small laugh at your husband's concern and just murmured, "Okay, I count on your protection."
You both stood there for a few minutes, just feeling each other's presence and exchanging caresses while listening to the various noises coming from the forest.
"We should head back now, I'm better", you said pulling away from Jake, taking his hand and starting to pull him back to their shared tent.
"Wait, wait", Jake stopped his steps, approaching you again as he placed one of his hands on your stomach, lightly rubbing the small bulge that stood out on your belly, "Is the baby okay?"
You looked at Jake in surprise at the sudden question. Placing your hand over Jake's hand, you let out a minimally loud laugh, "He's fine Jake Sully. The baby is healthy. Now come on", you took his hand and walked back to the tent once more. "We have other babies to take care of."
Jake let out a playful snort as he followed his majestic companion back home.
As soon as you entered the hut, you were able to hear murmurs coming from the heap of little bodies in the hammock. You assumed that your little ones were just having dreams, but then your thoughts were interrupted by Jake's scolding voice.
"What did I say about going back to sleep?", Jake crossed his arms over his chest, waiting for a response from the mountain of children in the hammock in their terrible pretense at being asleep.
"We are sleeping", Lo'ak lifted his head to answer his father, quickly pulling his eye away from Jake to look at you, who stood beside him.
Jake pinched the middle of his nose in annoyance letting out a sigh in the process, "Silly child, sleeping people don't talk!"
"It's Lo'ak, you skxawng!!", Kiri slapped his brother on the head who promptly let out a 'Hey!' for the aggression. Neteyam completely ignored the idiot fights of his brothers and ran into her arms.
"Mom! Are you okay? What happened?"
You stooped down to little Neteyam's level and planted your hands on his cheeks, cracking a wide smile at the sight of your son, "I'm fine, 'itan. How long have you been awake?"
Lo'ak and Kiri soon joined in the hug, snuggling into his neck in the process. Her heart filled with affection for her children, becoming almost unbearable. Jake was standing off to the side watching everything, almost envying his companion's attention to his children.
"I heard you get up and leave, I was afraid of what might have happened, so I called Daddy", Lo'ak sniffled softly, squeezing you even tighter.
You smiled as you collectively hugged your children, stroking their heads and soothing them. "Oh my baby, I'm fine, see? It was just… a mishap."
"Yes, so we need to let your mother sleep to regain her energy", Jake intruded into the conversation pulling you out from among the children and carrying you to bed.
You looked at him with an unreadable face, allowing yourself to be snuggled into Jake's chest as strong arms encircled your waist.
"Jake!", you tried to pull away, but as expected, was unsuccessful; so your only option was to lie down in defeat feeling a hand from Jake snake into your stomach and lightly caress the bulge.
"Neteyam, Lo'ak, Kiri, come to sleep. You must be tired after Mommy disturbed your sleep", you held out your arm for the children to snuggle in your protection.
There wasn't even time to think about the proposition, the children soon went into their parents' arms, getting as close as possible to each other.
Jake protected his belly from the children's jerky movements as he alarmed his children, "Hey, watch your mother's belly!"
"Ma'Jake, it's okay, they're just babies", you said stroking your companion's arm with a wide smile opening on your lips. Jake sighed defeatedly, nuzzling his head into the curve of your neck and inhaling your scent. He was truly lucky for the woman he had.
Her heart overflowed with affection. It was an unimaginable love that you felt for your family. A family you built with the one you love, a partner you trust. You couldn't have asked anything more from Eywa, not after she blessed you with the most sacred family in your existence.
Your eyes filled lightly with tears; pure tears of care and love, for your children, for your Jake, for your life.
"Good night, my little ones", you said in a whisper, realizing that the children were no longer able to keep their eyes open. They even looked as if they were waiting for a confirmation of your love for them.
Jake let out an anasalated laugh, also closing his eyes as fatigue consumed him and sleep called him into the dream world again. As a last prayer, Jake said in an almost inaudible whisper, only for nearby hearts to hear:
"I love you all. You are my greatest fortress."

I'm sorry if it seemed rushed at the end, I was anxious to finish and may have gone too fast 😭
I hope it was a good read! I kind of liked it for my first story; but I hope to improve in the future.
