Chennai engineering college students win gold at international competition

Gayathri Vijayakumar, associate professor of Biotechnology in the college, which is affiliated to the Anna University, said International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Foundation, an independent, non-profit organisation, held the competition in synthetic biology.

Called Curlim, the project aimed to remove toxic cadmium ions from industry effluents using genetic engineering and synthetic biology tools. The team genetically engineered escerichia coli bacteria and modified its DNA. The bacteria can precipitate cadmium ions from the effluent (wastewater from industries) by expressing the enzyme acid phosphatase on the membrane, Ms. Gayathri said.

“We got the best environment track award. Under the environmental track, 50 teams from across the world submitted projects. From India, there were 14 teams — 12 were from national institutes like IITs, IISER and IISc Bengaluru. The two private entries were from VIT Vellore and Rajalakhsmi Engineering College, Chennai,” she added.

The shortlisted teams included those from the USA, the UK, Lithuania, China and India.Read More

Noida Authority e-auctions 6 commercial plots for around Rs 2,700 crore

The Noida Authority has e-auctioned six commercial-builder plots for around Rs 2,700 crore, the Authority said in a statement on November 15. These plots, in different sectors, have a total area of over 82,949 sq m.

They plan to build commercial shops, office spaces, retail stores, shopping malls, showrooms, commercial complexes, hotels, restaurants, etc., on these plots.

Lavish Buildmart (M3M) Group alone will invest Rs 2,002.41 crore in Noida. Purvanchal Projects will invest Rs 307.50 crore and Designarch will invest Rs 170.70 crore on two plots.Read More

NTA to release CUET 2023 details

The CUET 2023 application form will be released by the authority after the release of notification. Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria before applying for the application form. CUET is a national level entrance exam conducted by NTA. It is conducted for providing admission into various UG and PG programmes in central Universities under the Ministry of Education (MoE).

JEE Main to NEET to CUET: NTA to Release Exam Calendar 2023 Soon, Know Tentative Dates

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will be releasing the academic calendar for 2023 in December. JEE Main to NEET to CUCET, the NTA will release the tentative dates of the exams as well as the notification release dates along with the calendar. Almost all major national-level exams are held by the NTA.

JEE Main 2023: The notification for the engineering entrance exam will be released in the third week of November. Along with the notification, the registration-cum-application forms will be available at jeemain.nta.nic.in. JEE Main 2023 session 1 will be held in January and session 2 in April. The application forms for the second session will be out by March.

NEET 2023: The notification for the medical entrance, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2023 will be released in March and the exam will be held on the first Sunday of May 2023. Along with the notification, the application-cum-registration forms will be released at neet.nta.nic.in.

CUET 2023: The common entrance test will be held after the Boards. The class 10 and class 12 board exams will be held from February 15 onwards and are expected to conclude by March. The CUET for entrance to colleges will be held after boards. UGC chairperson had said that CUET could be held twice a year, however, after the glitches in exam this year, the exam dates are not yet out.

UGC NET: The exam used to be held by UGC and is now conducted by NTA. The exam is held twice a year, however, since the pandemic, the National Eligibility Test is being held in merged attempts. This year too, December 2021 and June 2022 exam cycles were merged. S Ravi, Former BSE Chairman-“Pattern Of Investment In International Mutual Fund Is Different From That Of Investments In Domestic Mutual Funds”

Sethurathnam Ravi, popularly known as S Ravi is the former chairman of Bombay Stock Exchange Limited (BSE). Currently he is the Founder and Managing Partner of Ravi Rajan & Co., an advisory and accountancy firm, headquartered in New Delhi, India. He is also an Associate Member of Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE), USA, and also a registered Insolvency Resolution Professional. Sethurathnam Ravi in his latest article explains the challenges faced when investing in overseas mutual funds.

According to the Sethurathnam Ravi BSE ,the investment can be made in Indian Rupees and redemption is in Indian rupees. Investing in overseas Mutual Fund which is non-domestic has its own challenges in terms of methodology of payment, foreign exchange fluctuation and taxation, he explains. “The most preferred investment vehicle is through domestic fund houses as data and performance is readily available. Investors who have strong domestic presence the most efficient mechanism is to invest through domestic fund houses who in turn invest through various schemes in foreign stocks”, S Ravi said.

Sethurathnam Ravi also explains about the pattern of investment in overseas mutual funds. As per his affirmation the pattern of investment in international mutual fund is different from that of investments in domestic mutual funds. There are many things that need to be taken care of while investing in international mutual funds. S Ravi also explains about the term of investments that are suitable for investing in overseas mutual funds unlike domestic funds.

“An aspect which needs to be factored in this is that it is always better to invest medium or long-term perspective as one foreign stock give a good return over a period of time. Short-term investment in international mutual funds have witnessed volatility and thus should be avoided. Non-resident Indians have the liberty of investment from the country of residency. International mutual funds have delivered return of 27% in the last year. The three-year return is around 12% and the five-year return is approximately 13%”, Mr. Ravi, Former BSE Chairman affirms.

Investors still have the option to choose country specific investment through domestic fund house. There are specific schemes for investments predominantly in the US based stocks. Today the investor is equipped with data wherein fund performance is available along with NAV and returns, Sethurathnam Ravi concluded.
