if bethesda hadn't put gunther in fallout 76 i wouldn't dislike cooper as much as i do. they literally just did a ghoul cowboy, and a much more charming and likable ghoul cowboy imo. not that i saw much of him, i only watched the first episode, but i really feel like he's Chaotic Neutral Gunther, a concept that doesn't interest me in the slightest. also he just straight up has ears. they definitely could've designed a prosthetic that helped flatten down his actual ears and gave the appearance of those nubs we see on fo4/fo76 ghouls where their ears rotted off.

why are they doubling-down on this. don't commit to this bit. it's a bad bit.

incest jokes? in 2024? i mean, i guess you could argue it's valid to point out, since there's a limited number of people in the vault. still, it feels weird. reminds me of disney trying to use their remakes to fix unimportant "plot holes" people complained about in their animated films. "vault dweller incest" feels very "belle has stockholm syndrome" to me.

a super mutant wouldn't have done this. the master was right all along.
nothing like logging on, checking notes after ignoring them for a while, and seeing AI-generated scat fetish content of your old selfies

i'm not a big fallout 3 person and i didn't really play the nuka world dlc so it only recently occurred to me that leo petrov is probably meant to be a reference to sierra petrovita, the nuka cola superfan from fo3/nuka world. the callback doesn't do anything for me but i'm very interested in the canon implications here.
are sierra and leo related? not a super wild idea. petrov sounds slavic to me, iirc eastern european surnames were traditionally feminized or masculinized, we know pre-ghoulified leo had a son(named roman, which. i've literally only met russian guys named roman). but if that's the case, what the hell did roman say about his dear old dad who was functionally absent so he could shill cola? did he say that was really cool of him? is sierra stuck in some edgy phase where she emulates her grandfather just to piss off her other relatives?
an alternate and funnier in-universe explanation would be that sierra somehow found out about the og nuka cola superfan leo petrov and decided to take his surname.

i know it would've pissed some people off but i think adapting fallout 1 into a film would've been a better idea. it's a great game that you can sink a few hours into, but the dialogue options are largely binary, and the story's cleanly constructed and small-scale as far as fallouts go. i think it'd be relatively easy to translate into film, and translate faithfully. it'd also be a way to introduce folks who don't play isometric games to the story of fo1.

is the power armor CGI i. really feel like it's CGI. or maybe digitally enhanced in some way. doesn't really come across in screenshots but whenever anyone in power armor is moving it looks. wrong. fake. bad. maybe it's less noticeable in the actual episodes, idk. and either way it's obvious they're relying heavily on CGI, which is a shame, since the actual sets look good(far as i can tell) but then a slightly off vertibird or vista appears and suddenly all the world's seams look visible. i know CGI's cheaper and quicker and obviously some of the shit in fallout doesn't exist in real life so you gotta use it, but this is the type of gritty universe that'd be best served by using practical effects whenever possible. it'd add weight and realism instead of that slight floaty-ness you get with most CGI.

i know fallout 3's like 15 years old and everyone's already made fun of this but i'm never gonna get over fawkes refusing to turn on the purifier. the writers had outs here. they could've had him mention destiny and fatalism a few times in dialogue, then it wouldn't seem wild for him to claim it was lone's destiny to die of radiation poisoning while he, a mutant immune to radiation, watched on. or the writers and programmers could've had james get killed by an automated defense system within the room, with fawkes saying he didn't want to walk into that. maybe the brotherhood could've separated lone from fawkes/charon/sgt gutsy on the grounds that they wouldn't fight alongside a mutant/non-brotherhood robot. any of those options would've made sense, to an extent. at the very least, they wouldn't've caused as much whiplash as the canon excuse for fawkes not starting the purifier.
if this was, as some folks have theorized, a deliberately bad writing choice that was intended to be solved by a DLC that'd earn bethsoft a few extra bucks, that sucks. but on its face it's just so so so funny to have a good-aligned mutant refuse to mildly inconvenience himself to save the lives of hundreds, possibly thousands, of wastelanders, and what is in his own words his only friend. it's uncharacteristically petty and strange and the idea of finding this out on a blind playthrough in 2008 is hilarious to me.

i think a fallout visual novel could be fun. i think exploring the wasteland as someone who can't fight well and either has to surround themself with skilled fighters or find ways to consistently avoid combat might be neat. i think bethesda or microsoft or whoever wouldn't sue me, probably, since i'd mention it's a fangame.

bethesda’s flirting with good ideas when it comes to their super mutants. maul and grahm are clearly developmentally disabled* but still touch on mature sentiments, like maul briefly mentioning that he hates how folks condescend to him due to his lack of intelligence and grahm struggling to recreate his fragmented memories of better times.
the feeling of being looked down upon(and knowing exactly why but not being able to change anything) and an inability to fully articulate an indistinct sense of loss are both new, interesting angles to take super mutants. i hope bethesda sticks with that instead of giving us a couple hundred nameless bloodthirsty mutants and one(1) guy who’s either ostracized for being sooooo smart or just tolerant enough to talk to human weaklings. give me a companion quest where a super mutant struggles to express fondness, not because they can’t feel it, but because they lack the words and the means to string them together on their own.
(*i know they’re not technically developmentally disabled. i know fev fucks with the mind. i do not know what else to call ‘em.)
