Kulayan ang Pangarap
In a small space, it was too big of a picture to take. The sight of children with so much enthusiasm, so much potential, and so much hope for their dreams was so inspiring. They imagined the future and their future may be simple and innocent, but it was full of possibilities. They were proud of themselves with only a sheet of bond paper and a crayola in hand. That very moment I thought to myself, maybe it's true that happiness doesn't cost much. You just have to realize what you have and look closely. — Jayme
Tumblr media
I love how the kids depicted their dreams through their artworks and I admire their determination in creating such meaningful outputs. This immersion activity brought me back to my younger self when I was still yearning for my dream profession and the kind of life I wanted for the future. Then I realized that it was still in me – and that I will always be a dreamer :))) –Isay
Tumblr media
I first thought I'll suck at handling kids. It turned out that I'm not so bad after all, thanks to the previous immersion.–Merl

In the conducted activity “Kulayan ang Pangarap” it enlightened me to interact and build relationship with the children in the barangay and it also melted my heart with encouragement because of their high hopes on their dream and their vision for their future. Their passion was never ceasing and I can see it in their eyes.–Earl
Tumblr media
This first immersion activity was dedicated to the enrichment of the kids of Rima-Rizal and their passion to pursue their dreams. I admire all the dreams they have for themselves, but I regret not hearing their explanations about it. It would have been nice to listen to their enthusiasm in achieving them soon. Young as they may, they already had something in mind that they want to be when they grow up. Through this immersion, I have learned to look back at my past self and recover the passion I once had for my dreams. Years of experience indeed equip us with more skills and strength, but we need not throw away our past for it will be the one to fuel our occasionally dying passion.–Eddrielle
Tumblr media
During our immersion, we had fun engaging with the kids and we taught them a lot of things. We did a lot of activities, played games, and had a little talk.  Even though the venue of our immersion was not spacious and we were crowded inside, it didn’t feel uncomfortable at all because we were too immersed interacting with the kids. It feels so fulfilling to see the kids smile and laugh, and I hope they have learned something from us.–Alliana
Tumblr media
The immersion activity brought us closer to the children and it made us connect with them. We were able to know their names, their dreams so wild, and their stories. You could see right through them the fire and the eagerness to live. They were a happy bunch, content with life. It was all heartwarming. –Glenn
Tumblr media
Having the one as in-charge taking pictures of the kids, as I scroll their pictures first thing is that I really miss being a kid. Of course, having no worries as such enjoying the pouring sweat of yours with your playmates. It is really heart-warming seeing those kids dreaming big and not letting their social status put walls between their goals.–Leonard
Tumblr media
With the guidance of our supervisors, we were able to put together an activity that not only put smiles on the children's faces, but also gave us a sense of happiness from seeing them enjoy what we have put together. The best part about this is that the activity enabled the children to hone their artistic skills, something I personally have a soft spot for. Seeing these kids create their little artworks sent me back to my own childhood of playing with crayons and pencils, and their passions in the activity made me smile. Moreover, seeing the color combinations that some of these kids used gave me a lot of faith that, with time and practice, they can go quite far in the world of art.–Julie
Tumblr media
As I take photos of the children during the activity, the grin of them from ear to ear whilst illustrating their aspirations or dream professions, they put me in a retrospective of my younger self as I hanker my dream vocation. Those children manifested that destitution is not an impediment in attaining their aspirations, rather it will give them vehemence in bringing to fruition on what they’re yearning for. –Zyd

2.29.2020
After we prepare the barangay proposal, we went to Brgy. Rima-Rizal to discuss the paper with the Brgy. Captain Richard Galvez and Brgy. Secretary Ma. Khristina Susbilla to formally settle the schedule of activities the tribe has prepared for the community. The tribe together with the barangay officials make sure that maximum participation will be observed. Also, both parties make sure that there will be no conflict with the proposed plans regarding immersion and the symposium.
 Today’s learnings:
 Leonard:
“Personally, I'm really happy how the day went. We are complete as a group and the discussion with the Brgy. Captain and the secretary went as smooth as it could be. I really believe how we immersed and interact with the barangay really made our task easy. It is not sugarcoating of attitude, but the way we communicate with the individuals and being nice as possible, it bridged the gap towards our differences between us as students and them as a community.”
 Glenn:
“For today, I learned that time management is very important since we are about to implement our project in the succeeding weeks. Also, communication with my group mates is vital in order for us to create a cohesive and successful plans for our chosen community. And lastly, it is important to follow-up the scheduled works to do in order for us not to cram it and passed a mediocre work.”
 Riza:
“Today's barangay visit made me realize that a successful weekly task requires the team members to be take part in contributions such as monetary expenses for the proposal. I also learned that showing our dedication on our chosen advocacies, played a role in convincing the Barangay Captain as well as the Secretary to willingly cooperate in our proposed activities.”
 Earl:
“NSTP taught us to be conscious and sensitive in our words. We shouldn’t make assumptions about the knowledge that people have. We must be considerate to the people we don’t really know.”
 Eddrielle:
“After today’s visit to our barangay, I have learned that the people there, especially the barangay officials, are very much open to anyone who aims to help. This only means that they prioritize further development of their community and the people. These are the type of people who are easy to work with for they cooperate for the betterment of us, NSTP students, and themselves as well.”
 Merl:
“It is important to engage with congeniality and respect towards the people and officials of the barangay. A light atmosphere during the tribe's visits fosters harmonious relationship between the group and target community as well as facilitates the success of the advocacy application.”
 Alliana:
“After visiting to our assigned barangay, I have learned that kindness does exist in every people. The barangay captain and the secretary welcomed us warmly and were willing to listen in our proposed project for their community. The people in the barangay also greeted us with their bright smiles and they were very hospitable in accommodating us. Because of this, we were determined to finish our proposed project successfully and we will try our very best to make it work for them.”

CAUSE. COMPASSION. CHANGE.
Tumblr media
CWTS?
When we say CWTS, it’s not just about the shirt we put on every Saturday of the week nor the places we go to during community immersions but relatively, it is about the contributions and efforts one can provide for the general welfare and the betterment of the people in the community.
The Community Welfare and Training Service (CWTS) provides us the knowledge to systematically organize and develop projects that will benefit our chosen community Brgy. Rima-Rizal. Through this National Service Training Program (NSTP), we are able to identify existing problems and issues within the community such as the lack of awareness regarding proper waste management. Also, the community is at risk during emergency situations due to the geographic setting, thus, it is important to educate them with sufficient knowledge and information regarding emergency preparedness. Tribu Pag-amlig is dedicated to provide and help the community  tackle these relevant and rampant issues that may hamper their way of living as a community. Community immersion under the CWTS program serves as a platform for us students to lend a helping hand to communities by proposing advocacies that may address their current issues. Given the current situation in the barangay where most residents aren’t familiar with the risk that their lives are into due to their environment, our tribe wishes to enlighten them as to how they can improve their barangay as well as their knowledge to deal with any circumstance that may come their way. We hope to leave enough influence not only for the next couple of months but rather in the long run to put an end to the root cause of the problem which is unawareness.
Our expectations for this subject is that we, the Tribu Pag-amlig, will be able to make our project regarding solid waste management and disaster risk reduction successful. We are hoping that these projects will not only make us pass this subject but also help our chosen community to alleviate the existing issues affecting them. We also hope that our teamwork and cooperation as a team will prosper through our journey towards implementing these programs. The Community Welfare and Training Service (CWTS) taught us to develop a sense of leadership within ourselves. We are able to identify the problems present in the community and we try to develop projects that can hasten these. It also develops our communication skills and our ability to connect and empathize with others through engaging with the people in the community. We also learned the sense of camaraderie as we carry out the responsibilities and perform the duties given to us by our coordinator. Most importantly, we are able to build friendship not only within our group but also with our chosen community.
Moreover, in order to have a productive outcome, one must have cooperative functions in every aspect of the activity. In terms of expectations, cooperation is not a problem at all since we are committed in pursuing these projects and its objectives despite the hectic schedule, and other external and personal factors. It makes it easier for us to reach out to the community since we constantly gain support and assistance from them and we really hope this progress will continue. Also, we hope that this will benefit the community not just for a short time, but will be carried on for the betterment of their place. May we able to instill adequate knowledge to them as to how to deal with emergency situations, specifically the occurrence of earthquakes. Empathizing with this community made us grateful of what we have now as we learned how to humble ourselves and appreciate life. After all, it is the small act of kindness and compassion that benefits both the community workers and the people. We believe, therefore, that this kind of work will not only shape us as a person, but also foster and improve the relationship among our peers as well as create even just a little change in our chosen community.

WORDS. THOUGHTS. ASPIRATIONS.
We truly have a lot to say about many things. Perhaps we would go on websites like Reddit or Pinterest and share our thoughts, opinions, or love (or hate, whichever) about a certain topic. We may even clash with other factions on what our ideals are, or which facts are actually true. Nonetheless, we in Tribu Pag-amlig have all gathered together because of a common interest: CWTS.
So, what exactly do we have to say about CWTS? Obviously there were reasons as to why we chose this path among others. Let us take a look at some of the thoughts of our members, after the page break.
Tumblr media
“A STEP OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE”
"Community work (socializing) has never been my fortè. As an introvert who prefers to savor solitude, it is a big step out of my comfort zone. Although I have a drive for change for the people, I am used to do stuff behind close doors, in anonymity, or under an organization of some sort. This kind of work challenges me personally even though we still haven't formally initiated with our chosen community yet. I see working for our advocacies as something that needs personal adjustments. In addition, I would like to see myself and my fellow members under Tribu Pag-amlig working harmoniously despite our hectic schedule." -Merl Antoinette Sumbiling, Bachelor of Arts in Literature
Tumblr media
“WILLINGNESS AND COOPERATION”
"Together with the barangay's willingness and cooperation, I expect and I hope that our proposed advocacies will be a successful one." -Riza Guyapale, Bachelor of Science in Fisheries
Tumblr media
“THE OTHER SIDE OF ILOILO”
"Through CWTS I have been introduced to the other side of Iloilo. That despite the modernity of the city, the grandest facade of numerous churches, and the name it’s known internationally, there is still the side of the indigent. The reality of the marginalized amidst the new and modern structures" -Eddrielle Marie Fenis, Bachelor of Science in Biology
Tumblr media
“REALISTIC”
"I expected that we are equipped and prepared to be realistic about our own capabilities especially that we are the one who established or appointed ourselves on a certain position. I also expected that we can ensure to work with our objective with the maximum learning and experience we had. Lastly, for the success of the event, even though situations may get tough we are still resilient and optimistic to do our responsibility not only for the sake of this subject or for our benefit but also for the community." -Earl Lloyd Asong, Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
Tumblr media
”SUCCESS IS TOUGH, BUT...”
"The road towards success is tough but with continued faith, trust, and courage, the journey will be easy." -Glenn Cymark Elizada, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
Tumblr media
“PASSION”
"Unlike the past experiences of other CWTS groups, we are very passionate in making this project happen and it makes us happy to see how attentive and welcoming our chosen barangay is." -Leonard Ian Billones,  Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies
Tumblr media
”REALIZATIONS”
"There would be realizations on how blessed you are that you have spares to help other people even in simplest terms." Alliana Alawi, Bachelor of Science in Fisheries
Tumblr media
“TO WILLINGLY GET OUT OF BED EARLY”
“It is not just a school project, but it is passion. It is that type of community conscience, a sense of social responsibility that entails one to willingly get out of bed early and work on something new. It is a responsibility that one carries up high without complaining, and comes with challenges that one faces with a smile.” - Marie Julienne Lindsey Cruz, Bachelor of Science in Management
Tumblr media
“BELIEVE”
"If you are passionate enough, believe hard that you can make things happen. Being with the most dedicated group of people, I am very much grateful that the goals our tribe envisions for the community become reachable. To be honest, being a part of this immersion and making small efforts to create ripples made me understand the very essence of compassion. After  seeing the realities of life, may we be able to continue giving our all and doing what we can possibly do for the community in the margins." -Therese Jayme, Bachelor of Arts in Literature
Tumblr media
“SERVING”
"CWTS, an NSTP component makes us realize that it is not about fulfilling our academic requirements but serving while we are still students, usually for the community welfare which we all belong in." -Zyd Juluis Somes, Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies
Tumblr media
SO......
What does this all mean? Truly, we all have something to say, but what do we all have as a consensus? It is the spirit of service, and the dedication and passion to work as a team with a goal: to become agents of the Filipino people.
Now, thats community service.
