Touch The Sun Tarot Spread
Here's a little goal-focused success tarot spread I made for the upcoming Summer Solstice! You can use it any time you would like, though.
Tumblr media
I'm actually really stoked about this spread! I was inspired by this spread by @wasteland-magic that I had seen not too long ago. (:
Instructions
Find the sun card in your deck. That is Card 1.
Card 2 is the card directly in front of The Sun.
Card 3 is the card Directly behind The Sun.
Shuffle and pull one more card for Card 4.
Reading
Card 1: The Sun - Success.
This card represents your goal. Whether it’s fortune, love, wellness, fate, career, whatever it is, keep this goal in mind. This success that you seek is The Sun.
Card 2: What needs more light? Access
What is it that needs more of your attention in order for you to reach your goal? You need to access this knowledge in order to move forward.
Card 3: What needs less light? Excess
Excessive light can cause things to fade or even burn, leaving you worse for wear. What have you been paying too much attention to that is stopping you from reaching The Sun?
Card 4: How can I reach The Sun? Process
What does the process of you reaching The Sun look like? What step (or steps, feel free to draw more cards if you feel called to do so) should you take in order to reach success?
~~~
Let me know what you think and if you try this spread, let me know how it went for you!
New Year Tarot Spread (Year of the Witch)
As promised, a second spread for the new year! I like to call this one the "Year of the Witch" to differentiate the two. This is one you may wish to do at the start of a new calender year, your solar return (aka your birthday), or samhain (or whichever sabbat you consider to be the start of the year). Have fun!
Tumblr media
For the guidance cards, you can decide to have each card be from a specific spiritual guide, deity, daemon, or even from yourself. Since not every witch works with spirits or deities, I didn't want to make others feel as if this spread is inaccessible to them, so they can be generalized guidance if you prefer. Feel free to omit any categories that don't fit into your life. You can add a card for your business, for your intimate (sex) life, co-worker relationships, a specific goal (such as writing a book), etc. Yes, it is a long spread, but one I have done for years since it goes so in-depth into all areas of my life! When I made it, I took inspiration from the astrological houses and their themes and spun it into a spread that discusses a little bit of anything you could want to know.
Me: Did you know that medieval cathedrals weren't actually supposed to be dark and rundown places with only stained glass as color? They were bright places full of light... the reason they look like that now is because of the centuries of accumulated grime and dust, here look at this restoration of the Cathedral of Chartres in France:
Tumblr media
It's based on actual paint from the times, and when you think about it, it makes a lot more sense, after all a church is supposed to be a bright place of hope. Yet when we think about the middle ages we think about grimy and dark cathedrals. I wonder how much of our conception of history is shaped by our current visions of historical buildings.
My Goth GF: listen, I don't think this thing between us is working,
There's an argument that I keep seeing over and over again on this site, between a certain type of Christian and various minority groups, which goes roughly like this:
Christian user: I don't want to be a bad person who members of [minority group] hate! Isn't there some way that religious Christians like myself can coexist with [minority group]? Member of the minority group in question: Yes, there is room for coexistence, but only if you acknowledge and disavow the current and historical Christian position that members of [minority group], such as myself, must one day cease to exist. Christianity and [minority group] do not inherently need to be in conflict, but advocating for the end of [minority group] is irreconcilable with the idea of living in peace with [minority group]. Christian user: It's unfair that [minority group] is demanding that Christians disavow [piece of Christian doctrine that happens to require the eradication of the minority group in question]. That doctrine is an intrinsic part of how I personally understand the Christian faith. Asking me to stop believing that [minority group] needs to eventually stop existing is tantamount to asking me to no longer being Christian. Why won't [minority group] meet us halfway and peacefully coexist with those of us who believe in [a doctrine which requires the eradication of the minority group in question]???
This position is exactly as absurd as it sounds, no matter who the minority group in question is. If your personal understanding of your Christian faith requires you to eradicate homosexuality, you cannot ask queer people to meet you halfway and coexist – the belief that homosexuality needs to be eradicated is intrinsically homophobic. If your personal understanding of your Christian faith requires you to "save" indigenous peoples by pressuring them to give up their native cultures and converting them to Christianity, you cannot ask indigenous peoples to meet you halfway and coexist – the belief that indigenous peoples need to give up their native cultures in favor of Christianity is intrinsically racist. If your personal understanding of your Christian faith includes supercessionist doctrine that defines Judaism as an "incomplete" form of Christianity which needs to be "completed" through the worship of Jesus, you cannot ask Jews to meet you halfway and coexist – the belief that the Jewish religion is not "complete" until Jews worship Jesus is intrinsically antisemitic.
You can have this argument as many times and in as many variations as you want, but the answer is never going to change. Can Christians coexist in peace with minority groups of all stripes? Yes – but only if they stop actively endorsing the eradication of those minority groups. Asking us to meet you halfway while advocating for our eradication is as absurd as when neo-Nazis ask for minorities to meet them halfway while they openly advocate for genocide. There is no middle between "I want you to stop existing" and "I want to exist" – yes even when you claim that the source of your bigotry is your religion. If you want to maintain your religious identity while coexisting with minorities, it is on you to find a personal understanding of your religious identity which doesn't involve eradicating those minorities; you need to meet them halfway, not the other way around.
How does pacifism work in regards to self defense, ie Ukraine or Palestinian Conflict?
Hope youre well-
I think that pacifism can only ever be a question of individual discernment, not universal prescription. The language of nonviolence can so often become violent when it is used coercively, and it is important to remain vigilant against the ways in which appeals to nonviolence can become tools of oppression obfuscated by the language of love. I am more and more convinced that a commitment to nonviolence is not something that can be systematized but is rather a vulnerable affirmation made in the heart.
A story: when I was in Iraqi Kurdistan with Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT), a Kurdish CPT member recounted for us the history of the region. He drew a red circle around Iraqi Kurdistan and described the tremendous violence that had been visited on Iraqi Kurds from all sides. He then said something like this: only if there are those within this circle who are willing to relinquish the use of violence will there be peace. The threat of annihilation was not an abstraction here; and yet, there were still those who, in the face of this annihilation, made for themselves the choice to relinquish the use of violence. I don’t think that an ethic of nonviolence can be abstracted from this story. There is just this: the vulnerable affirmation that there is something else, something other than the endless cycle of violence and counterviolence—that there must be another way.
The Hanged Man – When the circumstances change
Death – Whenever it is ready
Temperance – After the storm
The Devil – It is happening right now
The Tower – Soon, unexpectedly and suddenly
To Help You Remember:
Wands are days, because they are fire, and fire moves fast.
Swords are weeks, because while a sword is quick to cut, it first requires some thinking on the warrior’s part.
Cups are months, because they are water, and water flows with the moon, which completes a cycle in roughly a month.
Pentacles are seasons to years, because they are seeds, and some seeds only require a season to grow while others need a year.
The timings for the Major Arcana and the Pages are related to the cards’ meanings. Once you know the meanings, you know the timings.
The Kings, Queens and Knights are the Zodiac signs’ birthdays:
King of Wands – Leo (Fixed Fire)
Queen of Wands – Aries (Cardinal Fire)
Knight of Wands – Sagittarius (Mutable Fire)
King of Cups – Scorpio (Fixed Water)
Queen of Cups – Cancer (Cardinal Water)
Knight of Cups – Pisces (Mutable Water)
King of Swords – Aquarius (Fixed Air)
Queen of Swords – Libra (Cardinal Air)
Knight of Swords – Gemini (Mutable Air)
King of Pentacles – Taurus (Fixed Earth)
Queen of Pentacles – Capricorn (Cardinal Earth)
Knight of Pentacles – Virgo (Mutable Earth)
Creative Writing Tarot Spread
Writers block bogging you down? Use this 7-card spread to help jumpstart your creativity! This prompt can help you generate a very basic storyline.
First, pull a character card! Decide for yourself what this means: will your character carry the traits of the positive meanings of this card? Will your character’s conflicts be brought about by the card’s negative meanings? Will your character look like the figure depicted on the card? Will they wield the item depicted on the card? (Note: if your story has multiple main characters, you may wish to pull a card for each)
Next, pull the plot cards! Pull a card for the beginning of your story, a card for the middle, and a card for the end. Again, let yourself decide what this means. Do these cards describe your character’s emotional state(s) as the story progresses? Do these cards describe internal or external conflicts? Do these cards represent other characters your MC will meet along the way?
Finally, pull your meat cards! These cards are the “meat” of your story. Pull one card for the main or most important setting of your story, one card for the main conflict, and one card for the resolution of that conflict.
Have fun with it! Remember that these cards are just tools, and this spread is simply to kickstart your brain. If you get halfway through the spread and come up with something on your own, or if you start writing and realize your plot is deviating from what the cards gave you, don’t stress about it! You write for yourself, not for the cards. Thank them for their help and continue on with your own imagination.
you know how kids tend to subconsciously adopt the mannerisms of their parents? i wonder how far back that stretches.
do i laugh like my great grandfather, because that's the way my grandma laughed, and my mom copied her?
does the way my dad make comedic sounds when he's driving actually originate with a distant uncle two hundred year ago, who made funny noises in the horse-drawn cart because it made his niece laugh?
i wonder which of my little mannerisms came from ancestors long passed, and i wonder which of mine will echo in family descendants long after i'm gone.
