"You were always with me, no matter whether I loved you, hated you, or seemed indifferent—that never changed anything, you were always with me—and always within me. You were all the brightness and the sweet and the bitter—you have shaken me and you have given me yourself and myself."
Erich Maria Remarque

I haven’t been posting on this site for way too long. It’s been multiple things–the main one being lack of time. Gifsets can sometimes take hours upon hours, and I don’t really make my life easier with the colored background obsession I have going on. But I want to get back into it. I miss it. Or–let’s be honest–I miss C.C. and Niles. So freaking much.
I have some melancholy vibes going on at the moment. Probably because of Ane Brun. I’ve listened to All My Tears way too much. Why have I done this to myself, I’ll never know. But this crappy nostalgia feeling always makes me want to create something. And for the past year, it has made me want to create something about C.C. and Niles. Isn’t it weird that a sitcom couple that acts like a pair of toddlers most of the time brings out this deep-seated angst in me? What is it about them? The more I decompose their surface-level characters, the worse it gets. Every layer I peel back reveals a deeper cut.
Anyway. Whatever. I want to make another set this week. That was the main point of this post. It is probably going to be something bittersweet.
Also, I have gotten dozens of new followers in the past two months I haven’t posted. Thank you for embarking on this C.C. and Niles journey with me!

Recently found your blog and honestly thought I followed you when I found it but your love for CC and Niles has made me fall in love with them even more. And it’s made me want to watch the show all over again. I actually want to buy the series.
Thank you so much! 🖤🖤
It makes me so happy to hear that I have reinforced your love for C.C. and Niles, even if just a little bit. We need more people in this lovely community.

You definitely should buy the series. It is way more convenient to own it than to rely on the streaming services. Although, I got to say, the quality on HBO Max is really good. I would say that even slightly better than on Amazon Prime.
Yes, I might have sneaked my way into the French Prime before the show became available on HBO. I also might not have, depending on who is asking.

any the nanny scenes that are underrated?? yet you think about them all the time???
Yes, Anon. Yes, there is. Well, actually, it is not so much underrated as it is completely irrelevant in regard to the general story-line.
It is this small scene in season one:
Tumblr media
I… Let me explain!
No, I don’t care about the dialogue.
Yes, I like that this scene reveals that C.C. actually knows Gracie’s name.
But I absolutely and all-consumingly LOVE the way Niles is looking at C.C., ugh. He is so fond of her. I don’t think his eyes have ever been softer or warmer.
My headcanon is that later on he learned how to hide his feelings better. And also, how to check her out more discreetly.
This is one of those rare moments when EVERYTHING is written on his face and it lives rent free in my head.

I'm gonna be boring and start with the most trivial: top 5 best episodes of The Nanny?
Uuh, that’s a hard one. Obviously I’m very biased. I like every episode that is good for C.C. and Niles and their relationship. And I hate season five.
So, it will come as a surprise that my fifth favorite episode is
5) First Date
Hear me out. When I was re-watching the entire show last year, I was dreading season five, but somehow, this episode gave me the peak The Nanny feeling. It is funny, there is a story-line for everyone and Elton John has a guest appearance. And I just can’t with Yetta in this episode:

4) The Hanukkah Story
First of all, I’m a sucker for holiday episodes but C.C. and Niles... They are so soft. They admit their feelings for each other. It melts my heart and punches me right in the gut.

3) Schlepped Away
This episode just gives me such a warm feeling. It reminds me of my family and friends and what we did together back in the day when we had to stay home because of snow. And it is one of the early episodes that really shows off the chemistry between the main characters. Also, I really love Niles with glasses:

2) Pen Pal
C.C. and Niles make out in the living room and basically want to rip each others clothes off. Do I need to say more?

Also, Niles’s prank on C.C. is legendary and hilarious. Fran and Max are still cute, not annoying and desperate. All in all, absolute peak The Nanny.
1) The Nose Knows
Even though I don’t give a flying eff about Fran and his therapist or Maxwell’s jealousy, it is the best episode for C.C. and Niles. Their teasing is soft. He is so proud of her zinger. His eyes travel all over her when she twirls for him.
Tumblr media
He tears up the check. They dance in front of a freaking fire to a song that declares: “Our love is here to stay.”
Tumblr media
I mean, the fact that NOTHING happened between them after this episode just drives me to the loony bin. But it doesn’t take away from the beauty of those scenes.

The quality of The Nanny on HBO Max is chef's kiss but it bugs me to no end that the episodes are out of order.
Yes, I might have contacted them. Maybe. Possibly.

Just a little rant...
Every time I fall into The Nanny Google and YouTube hole and accidentally see Fran Drescher and Daniel Davis saying that they didn't get the Niles and C.C. ending I want to claw my eyes out. I love them both but are you effing kidding me? Have you ever rewatched the show after 1999? Because I have and it is obvious that they were sliding fast towards a Niles and C.C. endgame, especially after season two. And I am not just talking about one kiss or a torn up check in the living room (which is the best television there is, don't get me wrong) but also the amount of foreshadowing in dream sequences, multiple random dates, accidental meetings, missing each other and so on.
I feel like people got the feeling of a rushed ending because of season five, which was treadful. There were small moments but in general there was a lot of backpeddaling regarding Niles and C.C. and her delusions about Maxwell grew to another level, which didn't make any sense after season four. A whole four season character development just stopped and was thrown out of the window. Why?
I personally think the writers just didn't know what to do. The show had naturally grown to a point where they had to make big decisions in order to go forward. And the writers were afraid to make them.
Firstly, the will-they-won't-they of Fran and Maxwell was becoming boring and repetitive. And the writers were cautious to take the leap because of the fear that they would lose their sexual tension. I hate to break it to them 30 years later but it was already kind of gone by the end of season four when their relationship had taken over the entire show. The engagement and marriage should've happened earlier, so they could've concentrated on new storylines in season five. Honestly, Fran could've struggled with becoming a mom and the difficulties of having two toddlers running around. God knows the other Sheffield children were all grown up by then, living their own life and were mostly used as props who brought tea and sandwiches to Yetta. And with that a lot of the funny conflict between Fran and Max was gone too.
Secondly, the writers were afraid that if they would dive into the relationship of Niles and C.C. they'd lose the funniest back and forth of the show. I can kind of understand that but then again I can't. I'm sure they could've figured out a way to keep the zingers coming. I don't know, write Lauren Lane's preganancy into the show, make the father an intriguing mistery for a whole season, then reveal it's Niles and go from there. Have they had a secret relationship for a while? Maybe. Did they have a one night stand but C.C. wasn't ready for more? Maybe. Create some tension. I mean, you guys. The possibilities. The twists and turns. The tension.
Anyway.
I would advise to Fran and Danny to watch the show again. They can skip most of season five. The only life changing event there was the wedding. Season six makes sense again and is actually totally in line with everything that happened in seasons one to four.
Niles and C.C. were meant to be, fight me.
Tumblr media
(Actually don't, I hate conflict. Sadly, I am not the long lost daughter of Niles and C.C. who would thrive off of it.)
