guess who read frankenstein
[image ID: four images showing different versions and crops of a digital illustration of a scene from mary shelley's frankenstein. the illustration shows victor frankenstein, a young thin man with light skin and messy brown hair dressed in a light collared shirt, partially laying down in bed, clutching his sheets as he props himself up, sweating and frightened. moonlight comes in through a tall window. leaning over the foot of victor's bed is his creature, a tall and muscular humanoid figure with pale patched and stitched skin, prominent scars, long black hair and eyes reflecting a glowing yellow, grinning down at victor. the second image is a close up on victor's face, the third is a close up on the creature's face, and the final image is a version or the illustration that is lighter and warmer toned. end ID]

I'm not trying to shame people who don't read The Classics because god knows most of that stuff never saw an editor, but before you post/reblog quotes from the old book classics, framed as something the author personally said, you should be aware that the quote was probably said or thought by a character who wasn't supposed to be objectively correct. As a matter of fact a lot of those fictional little guys were written to be completely wrong on purpose.
You have heard of the sci-fi genre of Don't Create The Torment Nexus. Now consider the 1800s book style Don't Become The Dipshit Protagonist.

genuinely one of my favourite details about Bram Stokers Dracula that isn't really transferred to the pop culture is that vampires have irridescent eyes, they appear brown at a glance, however when light is reflected on them they seem to go red!

On referring to my notes I see that it was upon the fourteenth of April that I received a telegram from Lyons which informed me that Holmes was lying ill in the Hotel Dulong. Within twenty-four hours I was in his sick-room and was relieved to find that there was nothing formidable in his symptoms. Even his iron constitution, however, had broken down under the strain of an investigation which had extended over two months, during which period he had never worked less than fifteen hours a day and had more than once, as he assured me, kept to his task for five days at a stretch. Even the triumphant issue of his labours could not save him from reaction after so terrible an exertion, and at a time when Europe was ringing with his name and when his room was literally ankle-deep with congratulatory telegrams I found him a prey to the blackest depression.
-Sherlock Holmes, the Adventure of the Reigate Squire
***
OKAY I have a headcanon about this opening, which is that Holmes and Watson had a big argument and Holmes left London in a fit of pique. He worked himself to a breakdown, crashed hard, and checked into the nearest hotel, intending to recover on his own…but some bellhop or maid was a fan of Watson’s writings and sent the telegram and then Watson TRAVELLED 500 MILES IN A DAY TO GET TO HIM anyway that’s why I drew it like that.

Vampires killing only "the right people" is so funny cause yes let's leave it to the insane bisexual imp man who thinks murder is hilarious to decide who the evil doers are. Really excited to see how that one goes
