Piecing Together Time in the ‘Ultimate Brain Puzzle’
New Post has been published on http://www.newsnish.com/tips/travelling-tips/piecing-together-time-in-the-ultimate-brain-puzzle/
Piecing Together Time in the ‘Ultimate Brain Puzzle’
A single image in Stephen Wilkes’s “Day to Night” series is composed of an average of 1,500 frames captured by manual shutter clicks over a period of anywhere from 16 to 30 hours. During this process, Wilkes must keep his horizon line straight and maintain continuity, which means keeping his camera perfectly still.
He then spends weeks in postproduction, piecing the best frames together into a final composite of layered images, essentially compressing time. For Wilkes, the excitement is in showing people something more than a photograph, something that provides a multidimensional experience, a window, as he describes it, into a world where the full spectrum of time, light, and experience plays across the frame. We’re treated to a view we’ve never seen before—one our eyes could never take in on their own.
New York Public Library, New York City  Click to enlarge
Out in the field, Wilkes commits himself to a tiny perch high above an urban or natural landscape. From here he’ll watch a narrative unfold: living beings interacting with their environment as light and time progress. He calls this vantage point the “ultimate catbird seat” —where he can partake in the joy of looking while being unnoticed by the players in the scene below him.
His process is meticulous and precise. “I look at a single place in a grid,” he says. “And then I decide where day begins and night ends.” Whatever that angle is—whether it’s diagonal, up and down, front to back, back to front—becomes what Wilkes calls the time vector. “My eye moves through the scene based on time. My focus changes based on where time is.”
Wilkes fixes his camera on that angle, then trains his eye on the scene before him, pressing the shutter when he sees a moment he wants to capture. “It’s the ultimate brain puzzle,” he says, “like a Sudoku on acid.”
During the photographing of these images, Wilkes doesn’t sleep, aside from a brief meditation here and there (though his assistant is instructed to shout if he sees anything). He doesn’t take breaks unless the sun or moon are in the right position and missing a few frames wouldn’t create a gap as the light transitions throughout the day.
Regata Storica, Venice There are no do-overs. He is at the complete mercy of the elements, riding out a thunderstorm in a crane full of electrical equipment or hoping that an advancing weather front won’t obscure a sunset on what was an otherwise perfect day. “I go out with real positive energy,” he says. “And I don’t really give it up. Because I just never know. And sometimes when it can be the most dire situation in terms of the way the weather looks, it can bring you the most spectacular things.”
And what gets him through these extreme tests of mental and physical endurance? “I am a collector,” he says. “When you are a collector and you are missing that one piece of that collection, you will go through unbelievable lengths. I will wait. I will do whatever it takes. I love collecting moments of magic. That’s what I do.”
What began six years ago as an urban project—a “love poem to New York City,” as he calls it—has evolved to include places around the globe, including natural environments. Below, Wilkes shares some of the stories behind the photographs featured in National Geographic’s January cover story celebrating the power of parks.
Wilkes and his assistant spent 30 hours perched on a platform 18 feet in the air, behind a crocodile blind so the animals wouldn’t see them. The elephant family marched across the frame just as he and his assistant had resumed shooting after taking a break to backup their files (each shoot takes about 20 gigabytes of storage). Had they passed five minutes earlier, he would have missed them. Seronera National Park, Serengeti, Tanzania
For the image above, Wilkes spent two weeks in the Serengeti scouting locations and getting permission from the park to photograph—not an easy task, as security around the park at night is tight on account of poachers. He initially wanted to photograph the peak migration but arrived during a five-week drought, when the animals weren’t following their normal patterns. What seemed like a bad card ended up being a boon when he found a watering hole that attracted elephants, zebras, wildebeest, meerkats, and hippos.
Photographing an animal narrative, as opposed to a human one, was a first for Wilkes, yet in doing it he discovered a valuable lesson.
“There’s such a beautiful message in this photograph,” he says. “The animals essentially were starved for water, and they all shared. I watched them for 26 hours [as they] literally all [took] turns drinking, bathing in this single resource. And they never so much as even grunted at each other. You realize the animals really get it. And we have really yet to understand the idea of water [as] a shared resource.”
To capture this view, Wilkes spent 26 hours at a 45-degree angle on a platform tethered to the side of a rock outcropping.
Tunnel View, Yosemite National Park
The inspiration for this frame was the Albert Bierstadt painting “Yosemite Valley.” Wilkes brought a print out with him when scouting the location. Getting this view required perhaps the most challenging setup he’s had—tethered, along with two assistants, to the edge of a rock outcropping at a 45-degree angle on an area the size of a four-by-eight piece of plywood. The slightest misstep could have toppled the camera over the edge. “My assistant scouted for me, and we hiked up on the prep day,” Wilkes says. “And I said ‘Jesus, Brian! You didn’t say it quite was like this! I’m not 14 anymore. Are you kidding me? Twenty-six hours on this ledge? Are you crazy?’”
But once the shoot began, Wilkes’s focus was solely on the ebb and flow of light and people in front of him. “Once I frame the image, what comes over me is a singular focus—the drive to make the image takes over,” he says. “Once I get infected, the sheer beauty of what I’m doing overtakes everything. Whatever my fear is, once I see the scene through the lens, everything changes. I become disconnected from whatever the physical reality is.”
Wilkes spent 16 hours atop an 80-foot cherry picker on a softball field—just the right place to capture the most action he could during the blooming of the cherry blossoms. Tidal Basin, Washington, D.C.
Capturing the cherry blossoms at their peak is tricky, especially given the changeable spring weather in Washington. “You could spend five years saying, ‘This is the year we are going to go,’ and never get the blossoms right. The fact we got them on the peak day—no cold snap, no rain—was astounding in and of itself, with winds that didn’t go over ten miles per hour.”
Wilkes and photo editor Kim Hubbard scouted for just the right location, eventually finding this vantage point that shows off the Tidal Basin, the people enjoying West Potomac Park, and a view of several monuments. “I was looking and said, ‘If I were to get above this I could see sunrise over the Jefferson Memorial and twilight over the National Monument,” he says. “I knew I was going to get a great human narrative.”
Wilkes wasn’t allowed to bring in his heavy, truck-mounted lift, so he used a less stable 80-foot cherry picker that was high enough to both capture a wide view and be buffeted by planes taking off and landing at nearby Reagan National Airport—a challenge when trying to remain absolutely still for long-exposure night shots.
In all, Wilkes spent 16 hours photographing—with no breaks. Asked about how he handled nature’s call, he mentioned a collection of red bottles before summing it up: “The extent of it is, you don’t want to drink too much, you don’t want to have too much coffee. I am going to donate my bladder to science when I am done with this project.”
Photographing from the Desert View Watchtower, Wilkes made this image of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in 27 hours. This vantage point allowed him to see the scale of the people along the overlook.
South Rim, Grand Canyon
“When the sun rose I had probably one of the greatest cloud formations you could ever ask for,” Wilkes says of photographing this image.
“[It] was like a ‘dial-a-sky.’ I specifically went and shot this at the end of July, hoping to get the beginning and middle part of the thunderstorm season. We were very lucky at the end of the day to get a capture of a lightning bolt.
“You can actually see the rain clouds building. That narrative—the ability to capture the changing of the cloud formations and the sky and how the day evolves that way—is a very profound thing in the parks. Because part of the magic of the parks is that no matter when you go, something really exciting can happen.”

THE 6-WEEK FAT BLAST WORKOUT ROUTINE
New Post has been published on http://www.newsnish.com/tips/health-tips/the-6-week-fat-blast-workout-routine/
THE 6-WEEK FAT BLAST WORKOUT ROUTINE
Follow this workout plan if your goal is to lose weight and get a more sculpted, leaner body.
Any successful fat loss program is going to take you out of your comfort zone, both in the gym and in the kitchen. Effective fat loss workouts are generally energy depleting and physically and mentally taxing and best paired with a nutritional plan of attack that’s filled with healthy, real foods (no processed, fast food crap), which leaves you in a slight calorie deficit.
Enter the 6-Week Fat Blast.
To maximally reduce your body fat percent, you’re going to have to start in the kitchen. You may have heard the saying that abs are made in the kitchen, which is true – you can lose fat and not even pick up a single weight or run a single step. But in order to build muscle, increase muscular strength and cardiovascular fitness, you’re going to have to hit the gym. So, to stimulate as much fat loss as possible, your program will consist of 3 full body workouts per week (alternating between Workout A and Workout B) with 2 days of cardio and 2 days off.
Start with a 5-10 minute general cardiovascular warm up followed by 5-10 minute dynamic drills (stretches and skipping variations).
Next, set up a treadmill to the maximal incline and at a speed you can sprint for 30-seconds. Set up a mat beside your treadmill with an exercise ball, a 50lb dumbbell and an ab wheel.
Perform a 30-sec hill sprint and carefully step off the treadmill (keep it running).
Perform 30-sec Elbow Plank on the exercise ball.
Perform another 30-sec hill sprint.
Perform 30 reverse crunches while holding the dumbbell (which is placed on the floor above your head).
Perform another 30-sec hill sprint.
Perform 30 ab wheel rollouts from your knees.
Repeat this total sequence 8-10 times through.
Finish with a 5-10 minute general cardiovascular cool down.
Start with a 5-10 minute general cardiovascular warm up followed by 5-10 minute dynamic drills (stretches and skipping variations).
Next, set up a treadmill to the maximal incline and at a speed you can sprint for 60-seconds.
Perform a 60-sec hill sprint and carefully step off the treadmill (keep it running).
Perform 20 kneeling high cable crunches.
Perform a farmer’s carry with the heaviest dumbbells you can find. Walk as far as possible before putting the dumbbells down.
Perform another 60-sec hill sprint.
Perform 20 lateral medicine ball wall tosses per side.
Perform another farmer’s carry just as written above.
Repeat this total sequence 6-8 times through.
Finish with a 5-10 minute general cardiovascular cool down.
Losing fat and taking your body fat percent down is not as easy task. You’re going to need a great support team to help you stay on track. Make sure to get enough quality sleep per night to ensure you can recovery well in between workouts – shoot for 7-9 hours per night. Drink plenty of water spaced throughout the day and prepare healthy snacks just incase you’re out and get hungry. Remember, diet plays more of a role in fat loss than high intensity workouts. I’ll end by rephrasing a quote I read from fitness great Adam Bornstein: “Eat for the body you want, not for the body you currently have.”

The 1 Piece of Jewelery Every Woman Needs, According to Gwyneth and Reese's Jeweler

The 1 Piece of Jewelery Every Woman Needs, According to Gwyneth and Reese's Jeweler
Living in a trend-driven world, it can be hard to keep up with what’s “in” and what’s “out” — especially when it comes to jewelry. Super chunky statement necklaces? Yawn. So over it. Oversize hoops? Meh, depends on the occasion. And while body chains and rose gold items are currently in style, by this time next year their days could be numbered.
So when we had the chance to chat with one of Hollywood’s most famed jewelry designers, Neil Lane (who also sells affordable pieces at Kay Jewelers, Jared, and Zales), we just had to ask: what’s the one diamond item every woman should own? Something that’ll last forever and won’t be phased out?
“Definitely a pair of diamond earrings,” Neil responded without hesitation. “Every woman should have diamond earrings that take them from their work place to cocktails to a meeting to a date. [It’s] a jewel that translates and transforms from day to night. They light up the face, they’re very elegant, and they can take sort of a drab wardrobe and lighten it all up.”
With an answer that detailed, how could we not want to shop? Scroll through to update your collection with a pair of everyday studs and drops, then check out whatreal diamond sizes look like against the average hand.

Nokia C1 VS Nokia E1: Android smartphone battle
New Post has been published on http://www.newsnish.com/technology/mobiles/phones/nokia-c1-vs-nokia-e1-android-smartphone-battle/
Nokia C1 VS Nokia E1: Android smartphone battle
Nokia C1 VS Nokia E1: Specs and Prices
They are both said to be Nokia Android-based smartphones when the Giant comes back in 2016 after years of absence and they seem to be mid-rangers helping Nokia to get closer to consumers who want affordable device. A render image of Nokia C1 smartphone was first spotted in early September 2015, which made Nokia fans more excited than ever. Nokia C1 is also mentioned as the first ever Nokia Android smartphone. Some Nokia C1 specs rumored by now include: an awesome 5.5-inch display, 3GB RAM, and 16GB of storage. The Nokia C1 cameras will hopefully be 20MP Pureview and 5MP or higher.
We have been guessing that the Nokia C1 price at launch date in 2016 will be in our most favorite category: sub 250 USD In case of Nokia E1, its specs will probably include a 2.3GHz Intel 64-bit Atom processor, PowerVR G6430 graphics, and a 4.95-inch Full HD IPS display. In addition, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage (bigger than C1), and a 2,700 mAh battery will be on-board, too. As for the camera, E1 may have a combo of a 20MP rear and 8MP front-facing shooter.. About the Nokia E1 price, we assume that with such Nokia E1 specs and look, E1 may be priced at around 200 USD. If so, Nokia E1 can beat Nokia C1 if you are very price conscious.
Nokia C1 VS Nokia E1: Different designs but beautiful Looking at the leaked pic of Nokia C1, we are quite impressed with its design. Four corners are rounded but not too rounded. The bezels are super slim and maybe made of plastic, yet not for sure now. On the other hand, Nokia E1 comes with a metal body and some nice curved borders. They are surely different in the look, so you have more choices. Then, which one do you prefer?
Nokia C1 VS Nokia E1 Prices and Availability: Nokia Budget Battle !
With those Nokia C1 and Nokia E1 prices, both are highly anticipated Nokia Smartphones and are targeting fans who want more affordable Nokia smartphones. At the price range of 200-250 USD, these two Nokia phones promise to sell as well as the old Nokia 3310! No matter what strategies the company is having we are very much looking forward to Nokia E1 and Nokia C1 Launch soon!

Lose 15 Years From Your Face in Just 10 Minutes a Day
New Post has been published on http://www.newsnish.com/tips/beauty-tips/lose-15-years-from-your-face-in-just-10-minutes-a-day-2/
Lose 15 Years From Your Face in Just 10 Minutes a Day
As we age, our face naturally slackens, but what if there was a way you could take 15 years off your face without resorting to surgery or treatments such as Botox? One woman claims she has the answer – facial fitness exercises.
Eva Fraser has taught thousands of men and women how to exercise their face and she knows her methods work – at 73 years old, she is frequently mistaken for somebody 20 years younger.
You need to practice these exercises four times a day. The exercises may take you five minutes at the beginning, but when you will be more confident, it will take you two minutes a day. These five minutes can make a great change.
Before you start:
Before starting the exercises, do some warm up exercises in order not to strain any muscles. Sit and breathe deeply. Feel the tension release from the muscle in your body.
Neck exercises:
Neck exercises are good to start with. Keep your spine straight; gently lean the head forward and then backwards three times. Keep the jaw relaxed and breathe deeply.
Next, twist your head from side to side to look over your shoulders. Do this three times and do not force the muscles. The movements should be gentle.
Lower your right ear towards your right shoulder and hold for a count of five. Do the same on the left. Repeat the same exercise three times.
Eyes exercises:
Eyes exercise is next. Keep your head still and moving only your eyes look up as high as you can for a count of five. Then, lower your eyes quickly and again hold for a count of five. Repeat the exercise three times.
Keep your head straight and look to the left and hold for a count of five. Repeat the same looking to the right and do the same exercise three times.
Next, look diagonally up to the left and then diagonally down to the left. Do it three times and then repeat the exercise on the right.
Other facial muscle exercises:
– Raise your eyebrows as high as you can and hold them for five seconds.
– Lift your eyebrows, open your eyes wide and frown at the same time.
– Pucker your lips out as far as pssible into the shape of the letter “O.” Then change your expression into a wide smile. Repeat this several times.
– Sit and look up at the ceiling. Pucker your lips and stick your tongue out to exercise your neck muscles.
– Open your mouth and stick your tongue out as far as you can and hold for a few seconds.
– Move your nose you can from side to side as much as you can.
Facial exercises also take less work than exercises for your body. What can you do in five minutes in the gym? But five minutes on your face makes a real difference.
You should see a real difference in less than a month. ‘If you are doing the exercises every day for about 10 minutes, your face will become stronger in four weeks.

Lemon Peel Recipe For Pain
New Post has been published on http://www.newsnish.com/tips/health-tips/lemon-peel-recipe-for-pain-2/
Lemon Peel Recipe For Pain
According to a recent national survey, over 30% of Americans complained of joint pain. Joint pain is most often caused by some medical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, bursitis, as well as injuries such as a joint sprain.
Joints connect the bones in the body thus enabling us to move our limbs and other body parts. However, due to a number of reasons, the cartilage that prevents our bones from rubbing wears away and this leads to joint pain which can range from irritating to exhausting.
The pain in the joints can lead to physical discomfort, and many other inconveniences. Nevertheless, we, fortunately, can use the power of the lemon peel to address this issue.
Lemons are abundant in vitamin C, containing approximately 31% of a daily recommended amount. Vitamin C is vital in the creation of a very important protein in our bodies that forms tendons, ligaments, skin and blood vessels.
Vitamin C is also extremely useful in the body recuperation, as it actually prompts wound healing, scar tissue formation and cartilage, bone and teeth maintenance.
Despite vitamin C, lemon rinds are also rich in calcium, both of which are vital for a healthy skeleton. Therefore, lemon peels can be of immense help in the case of joint pain.
We reveal an extremely effective natural remedy against joint pain. If you practice it before going to bed, you will feel the results in the morning.
Lemon peel for joint pain- recipe
Ingredients:
4 lemons
Olive oil
You will also need:
Plastic bag
A jar
Gauze
Woolen shawl
Method of preparation:
Place some lemon peel in a jar and fill it with olive oil to the top. Close the jar and leave it for 2 weeks.
After that time, the remedy will be ready. Put some of the healing oil on gauze and apply it on the painful joint. Cover the gauze with a plastic bag and then wrap it with a woolen shawl as well. This efficient procedure will provide quick and permanent results!
It may sound a bit strange, but you can also eat the lemon peel and enjoy its numerous health benefits, including:
It improves immunity and digestion
The lemon peel is abundant in vitamin C, which is highly beneficial for flu, a sore throat, common colds and similar infections, as well as nutritious fiber that stimulates a regular bowel movement.
It reduces cholesterol levels
It contains polyphenol flavonoids which help to reduce bad cholesterol and potassium which helps to maintain blood pressure levels.
It stimulates weight reduction
The lemon peel is rich in pectin, which is an ingredient that inhibits the body from absorbing excess amounts of carbohydrates.
It enhances skin quality
The lemon peel contains the citric acid and vitamin C, which are extremely efficient in the fight against free radicals that lead to aging and dark spots on the skin.
Therefore, if you have not included lemons in your regular diet until now, this is the perfect time to start consuming them every day and enjoy all the health benefits they provide!

Deepika Padukone will charge THIS MUCH for a film now on
New Post has been published on http://www.newsnish.com/entertainment/tv-series/deepika-padukone-will-charge-this-much-for-a-film-now-on/
Deepika Padukone will charge THIS MUCH for a film now on
Deepika Padukone stepped into her 30s on January 5 this year. And on her Big 30th, a certain big information about the actor made its way to the grapevine – her remuneration per film now on.
Padukone charged Rs 10 crore per film till 2015. And after the massive, unbelievable success of her latest release Bajirao Mastani, the leggy lass has raised that amount. As of now, Deepika is supposedly asking for Rs 15 crore per film, and is among the highest-paid female actors in the country now.
2015 saw Deepika winning hearts of both her critics and the audience. Deepika’s first offering in 2015, Shoojit Sircar’s Piku, made people unable to stop gushing about how they loved her titular character in the film. Piku went on to earn quite a decent sum of money at the box office too.
After Piku, Deepika was next seen on the big screen in Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha. Alongside ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor, Padukone yet again won over her viewers with her carefree, much-loved act.
Deepika Padukone then bowled her viewers over with her portrayal of Mastani in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. Her performance won her rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, and at the box office too, Bajirao Mastani spinned magic. The film clashed with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s Dilwale at the box office, and surpassed the earnings of Dilwale in less than two weeks – a feat that is quite staggering for Deepika Padukone.
The success of Bajirao Mastani has now made Deepika even dearer to filmmakers. Want her in a film? Shell out Rs 15 crore!

10 Signs You Are A Superb Traveler
New Post has been published on http://www.newsnish.com/tips/travelling-tips/10-signs-you-are-a-superb-traveler/
10 Signs You Are A Superb Traveler
It seems like more and more people these days are becoming fans of world travel, whether that be for 2 weeks, 2 months or even 2 years. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone is a good traveler. These people are usually easy to spot, too: they seem less interested and possibly even a little uncomfortable in their new surroundings. Contrast that with a superb traveler who seems to slot into his or her new environment effortlessly. If you’re wondering where you fit in, here are 10 signs you are a superb traveler:
You pack smart
One of your rules you stick to is not to over-pack, but rather to only take what you truly need. You also get to know the carry-on rules before boarding. When I backpacked through South-East Asia, I took only a carry-on and simply bought whatever else I needed along the way. This makes things so much easier, and allows you to leave the airport to start exploring.
You plan ahead (but not too much)
A little research is always good. It’s helpful (and essential) to get an idea of the place(s) you’re going to, climate, admission requirements, local laws and other do’s-and-don’ts, but once that’s all out the way, you like to allow things to happen naturally. This is also reflected in the way you use travel guides, treating them only as a reference point and not as a checklist.
You learn a few words of the local language
You take the time and effort to practice some basic pleasantries such as please, thank you, hello and goodbye. This often times leads to a stronger connection with locals and makes your trip all the more rewarding.
You ditch the technology (except when it helps)
There are certain apps which can enhance your travel experience, such as document storage, travel guides, language learning & translation, photography or even meetup apps. However, you are smart about how you use them and keep devices stowed away when not necessary. This allows you to be more present and enjoy the experiences in front of you.
You take part in the local traditions
Watching from the sidelines is never as fun as getting involved, and you take this same approach whenever you can on your travels. Often times, locals will welcome tourists into their routines or performances. And if you do end up embarrassing yourself, at least you’ll likely never see the same people again!
 You respect other cultures
Traveling possesses a unique gift in that it expands your worldview and exposes you to things you would otherwise never have imagined, whether that be new foods, rituals or behaviors. Whether you agree with them or not, you choose to respect them as a way of life for the community which you are visiting.
You can see the bright side
More often than not, there is bound to be some sort of hiccup along the way. Perhaps you get scammed by a tuk-tuk driver, get caught in a storm or miss your connecting flight. When these things happen, you take them in your stride and prefer to see the silver lining.
You get out of your comfort zone
One of the greatest aspects of traveling (especially when in a foreign country) is the fact that there are no comfort zones. You are stripped of your usual luxuries and conveniences and learn who you really are as a person. As a superb traveler, you embrace this as part of the adventure.
You welcome the unexpected
On any adventure, there are bound to be some unexpected events along the way. Maybe you got lost or receive an invite from a local. A good traveler learns to go with the flow and makes the most of the situation. While on a tour in Cambodia, the tour guide learned I enjoyed sports and invited me to a soccer game with his friends that night. It was one of the highlights of my trip.
 You make new friends
If you are a solo traveler, this obviously becomes even more important, but it applies to anyone exploring a foreign country. Travel friendships (and relationships) are a bond like no other, strengthened by the fact that there is a known deadline. On my own solo adventures, I realized that it was a choice between putting myself out there and meeting new people, or having a boring, lonely holiday.
The superb traveler possesses these qualities without thinking about them. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t adopt some of them yourself. You (and your travel mates) will be grateful you did.

Beyonce Slammed For Saartjie Baartman Movie
New Post has been published on http://www.newsnish.com/entertainment/movies/beyonce-slammed-for-saartjie-baartman-movie/
Beyonce Slammed For Saartjie Baartman Movie
Queen Bey is facing the wrath of South Africans over the announcement that she’ll write and star in a film about Saartjie Baartman. According to The Sun, the 34-year-old songstress is penning the movie in a bid to bag an Oscar, and has hired a team of acting coaches and writers to help her produce it.
But the news has sparked outrage locally, with Chief Jean Burgess of the Ghonaqua First Peoples telling News24, ‘She lacks the basic human dignity to be worthy of writing Sarah’s story, let alone playing the part. Why Sarah Baartman? Why not a story about an Indigenous American woman? I can only see arrogance in her attempt to tell a story that is not hers to tell.’
Saartjie Baartman was a KhoiKhoi woman who was exhibited as a freak-show attraction in 19th-century Europe. She was known as the Hottentot Venus, and was sold by a Scottish doctor when she was barely in her 20s and deemed an ‘anthropological curiosity’ because of her big bum, long labia and fair skin. Baartman was the subject of a failed court case in London arguing that she was being forced to perform against her will, and was subsequently enslaved in Paris, where she later died of an unknown disease. Her body parts were exhibited in the Museum of Man for more than a century after her passing. After the ANC victory in 1994, President Nelson Mandela formally requested that her remains be returned so she could be buried in dignity – more than 200 years after her birth – at her home in the Gamtoos Valley.

GM just joined forces with Lyft in a major way

GM just joined forces with Lyft in a major way
Transportation industry, get ready for some major disruption. To celebrate the new year, General Motors has just invested $500 million in Lyft, and the two firms are planning to create an “integrated network of on-demand autonomous vehicles in the U.S.” The result is that you’ll soon have a whole new fleet of autonomous taxis driving about town, all at your beck and call.
In a joint announcement Monday morning, the automotive manufacturer and transportation company outlined a number of strategic goals expected to come from their “long term strategic alliance,” including this self-driving network, a rental hub, connectivity in the form of OnStar services, and joint mobility offerings.
GM will join Lyft’s board of directors as part of the new partnership, and looks to be moving beyond its traditional role in the car industry. In addition to its financial support, GM is also granting Lyft access to short-term use vehicles by way of rental hubs throughout the U.S., and will provide Lyft drivers access to both their extensive network of cars and their OnStar services. These functions, GM believes, will “create a richer ride-sharing experience for both driver and passenger.”
Reflecting a clear recognition of the industry’s evolution, GM’s decision to partner with Lyft marks a shift from the one-car-per-person model. By adapting to the sharing economy, GM may be ensuring that it remains relevant in years to come.
“We see the future of personal mobility as connected, seamless, and autonomous,” said GM President Dan Ammann. “With GM and Lyft working together, we believe we can successfully implement this vision more rapidly.”
There’s no word yet as to when we can expect to see the Lyft + GM autonomous vehicles on the road yet, but it certainly gives much larger rival Uber something to think about as it continues to pursue its own self-driving technology.
“Working with GM, Lyft will continue to unlock new transportation experiences that bring positive change to our daily lives,” said John Zimmer, president and co-founder of Lyft. “Together we will build a better future by redefining traditional car ownership.”

Did Leonardo DiCaprio Dump His Girlfriend to Get That Oscar?
New Post has been published on http://www.newsnish.com/entertainment/movies/did-leonardo-dicaprio-dump-his-girlfriend-to-get-that-oscar/
Did Leonardo DiCaprio Dump His Girlfriend to Get That Oscar?
From now until February 28, every single thing Leonardo DiCaprio does, no matter how small, should be interpreted through the lens of “How Does This Get Leo That Oscar?” PraisingBloodline? He’s just courting the Ben Mendelsohn wing of the actor’s branch. Throwing a Justin Bieber concert? The Canadian vote is stronger than you’d think. Trust us, it all adds up.
So how does today’s news that DiCaprio hassplit from his 25-year-old model girlfriend Kelly Rohrbach fit with this theory? Hold that thought while you look at Variety today, and, hey, what a coincidence — “Baywatch Movie Casts Model Kelly Rohrbach in Pamela Anderson’s Role.” Did Leo dump the next C.J. Parker so she wouldn’t hurt his Oscar chances?
Insiders say the couple’s “intense work schedules” led to the “mutual” breakup, but we all know that’s code for “I do not need to be associated with an upcoming Dwayne Johnson–Zac Efron action comedy right now, so don’t even talk to me unless we’re talking about raw bison liver.” The timing is suspicious is all we’re saying. But don’t mind us, we’re just asking questions here.

The Right Exercise Equipment for You
New Post has been published on http://www.newsnish.com/tips/health-tips/the-right-exercise-equipment-for-you/
The Right Exercise Equipment for You
A mericans spend more than $65 billion per year on fitness—everything from gym memberships to exercise equipment to infomercial weight-loss devices. But if our goal is to be more buff, we’re not getting our money’s worth. Obesity rates climbed to 38 percent for U.S. adults in 2014, up from 32 percent a decade earlier, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In fact, the number of obese Americans exceeds those who are merely overweight.
When we regularly do work out, two-thirds of us do so at home, mainly for comfort and cost savings. A sleek new cardio machine can, by itself, inspire and motivate, but take home the wrong one and it will quickly become the world’s priciest clothes hanger. Consumer Reports’ latest tests of treadmills and ellipticals—and an innovative piece of exercise equipment that’s a cross between the two—will help get you up and running, and keep you going through your favorite podcast or guilty pleasure on Netflix.
If you’ve been waiting to buy exercise equipment, your patience might have paid off. The latest machines are more connected than ever—to apps that track your results or hook you into a community of like-minded enthusiasts. Add a fitness tracker for dynamic feedback on your progress.
Treadmills
Treadmills are ideal for avid runners and walkers, especially those who live in regions where the climate isn’t conducive to year-round outdoor exercise. You can spend as little as $300 on a budget folding treadmill or 10 times as much on a higher-end nonfolding model. Serious runners who have the space should consider investing in a top-rated, nonfolding treadmill, because those machines tend to have a longer deck that’s better suited to a runner’s open stride. Work hard enough, and you could burn up to 350 calories in a 30-minute workout. That’s roughly equivalent to a slice of cheese pizza, so you can enjoy the occasional guilt-free indulgence, provided you put in the miles.
Ellipticals
Ellipticals are best if you want a weight-bearing exercise that’s lower-impact than running. Most ellipticals have moving handgrips that allow for a more full-body workout. Calorie output tops out around 270 for a vigorous 30-minute session.
Most of the machines we tested cost $800 to $3,000. Many basic models provide sound ergonomics, solid construction, and a variety of exercise options, but you might have to pay more for connectivity. Several tested models feature iFit, which for a $99 annual fee allows you to track your workout data, choose from professional exercise programs, and create simulated workouts with Google Maps. Other machines connect to free sites such as MapMyFitness and MyFitnessPal, which measure how workouts are affecting blood pressure, cholesterol, and more.

Reese Witherspoon Rocks a Retro One-Piece Swimsuit on Vacation With Tennessee
Let it never end! Reese Witherspoon took to Instagram on Sunday, January 3, to reveal just how she spent the last day of her holiday vacation: clad in a pinup-worthy swimsuit while tubing with her 3-year-old son, Tennessee.
In the sweet snap, the Wild actress, 39, and her son (shared with husband Jim Toth) can be seen smiling in a pool near the sea. While Witherspoon modeled her trim physique in a plunging, polka-dotted one-piece, her youngest son held on tight to an inflatable flamingo.
Already nostalgic, the Legally Blonde alum captioned the pic, “Last day of vacation!” complete with a heart, palm tree and sunshine emoji.
Later that day, Witherspoon shared a second post — a collage of her top nine photos of 2015 with the popular hashtag #2015bestnine. (Just like Us, indeed!) The pics included one with her look-alike daughter, Ava, 16, one with her son Deacon, 12, two that featured her Hot Pursuit costar Sofia Vergara on her wedding day, and one that featured Witherspoon in her Oscar dress at the start of the year.

Chloe Khan flaunts a LOT of side boob and bum in steamy thong bikini snap
It’s a new year, and Chloe Khan is still posing in steamy snaps as she kicks off 2016 in a revealing way.
The Playboy model and former X Factor star turned up the heat once again as she posed in a plunging bikini and showed off her bum and a LOT of side boob.
Sharing the raunchy snap on her Instagram page, the singer was forced to defend her body proportions, insisting she’s happy having a smaller bottom to complement her busty figure.
She wrote: “Before y’all start with the usuall “your ass is too small for your boobs” , I like been an out of proportion barbie and Although I love to see a big booty on A lady I don’t want it for myself .
“I have never done a proper squat in my life so I don’t think it’s that bad tbf… #imexactlywhatiwanttobe (sic)”
Meanwhile, it seems the star had a relaxed New Year’s Eve, after joking she is “now officially a 98 year old granny” because she decided to stay in on December 31st.
Shunning the idea of partying in Manchester at a charity ball, she chose to focus on the upcoming launch of her new businesses.
She explained: “Ok guys it’s official . I am now officially a 98 year old granny and staying in on New Year’s Eve with myself

11 Done To Death Internet-y Things To Stop Saying In 2016

11 Done To Death Internet-y Things To Stop Saying In 2016
Tell your whole #squad. Except don’t say “squad”
2016 is upon us! Rather than introduce unrealistic fitness goals (no, not #goals), instate oppressive dietary restrictions, and attempt to sober up, as we bid adieu to 2015, why not take a moment to Marie Kondo examine the way we speak?
Here, a complete list of everything we exhausted over the last 12 months, and a few phrases that we plan to ruin this year.
Basic: Let’s be more imaginative.
Mood: You’re a National Geographic animal. OMG. Lol.
YAS: Because I still don’t know what it really means.
#Goals: If everything is #goals, then what is really goals?
No new friends: We get it, your squad is super selective.
Which brings us to #squad: Thank you, Taylor Swift for the most done-to-death trope of 2015
On fleek: Even less forgivable when used ironically at this point
I can’t: You can
Tho: It’s time to add the “ugh” back in
#Blessed: Blessed can be unofficially traced back to every award acceptance speech Beyonce has ever given. Which brings us to “lit”: RIP lit, which died on December 25th, 2015 with every illuminated Christmas tree on Instagram captioned, “It’s lit.”
What still kicks…
WHAT ARE THOSE? Because how else are we supposed to identify Jordans, Lip Kits, alleged engagement rings, etc.?
F*ckboy: Until a new name for men still wearing man-buns and texting “u up?” at 2 a.m. enters the vernacular, “f*ckboy” stays.
