For me at least, the players aren't really characters as much as personifications of the "Happiness treadmill effect" (“If I could just earn X, or achieve Y, I’ll be happy,”) and how that mindset is self defeating at best, and self destructive at worst. Pippin spends all of his time trying to find the single thing that will make him happy and fulfilled, but finds himself unsatisfied. All of the exciting, and novel experiences he goes through do give him pleasure in the short term, but eventually, the novelty wears off, leaving him no more happy or fulfilled than he was in the beginning.
The only way to escape the cycle is to realize that lasting happiness and fulfillment doesn't come from the outside, but comes from what we do and the relationships we make.
okay but. pippin the musical is horrifying. the implication is that this trope of actors periodically chooses a new pippin that they manipulate into dying by fire at the end of the show. we know that this is the actor’s first time in the role of pippin. we know that widow catherine has played this role over and over again and is getting frustrated by it, and her improvised number is about how much she actually liked “this one” compared to the others. you know, all the other pippins. who did die in the finale fires, with or without their consent.
and then the show ends with a kid going “you know what, I wanna be pippin next time. give ME the show. let ME have this corner of the sky”
The Magic Trick You Didn’t See: Being An Analysis of Good Omens Season 2
(or: Neil Gaiman, Your Brain is Gorgeous
But I Have Cracked Your Sneaky Little Code
And Have You Dead To Rights*)
(*Maybe)

Soooooo I just spent the last 48 hours having a BREATHTAKING GALAXY BRAIN EPIPHANY about Good Omens Season 2 and feverishly writing a fuckin16,000 word essay about the incredible magic trick that @neil-gaiman pulled off.
Yes, it’s long, but I PROMISE your brains will explode. Do you want to know how magic works? Do you want to know what Metatron’s deal is (I’m like 99% sure of this and it’s EXTREMELY FUCKING GOOD)? Do you want to know about the Mystery of the Vanishing Eccles Cakes and the big fat beautiful clue I found in the opening credits? Do you go through the whole inventory of Chekov’s Firearm & Heavy Artillery Discount Warehouse?
Here is the essay, go read it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/193IXS11XN46lziHRb6eUpM17yK0BQkRqke1Wh64A_e0/ When ur done u can tell me I’m an insane crackpot, and u know what, i won’t even be offended
In case you don’t know whether you want to bother reading the whole enormous thing on google docs, I’ve put the first couple sections of it under the cut. JUST TRUST ME OKAY, HEAR ME OUT, THIS IS VERY EXTREMELY COOL, NEIL IS GOOD AT HIS JOB–
I do think it's worth noting that the study specifically excluded people with severe mental health issues and substance abuse problems, among other things.
In episode 3 season 2 of Good Omens, Crowley drinks poison and isn't discorporated. Which had me wondering if it was normal or not. From what I understood, when on Earth, demons and angel can be discorporated by stuff that would kill humans (car accidents, fire, being shot...). Does it apply to intoxication as well, or it takes external damage to be discorporated? If not, then why did Crowley survive? Is it because he was a snake, or because he can eliminate intoxicating subtances from his body (like alcohol, but then again he can still have hangovers so idk) - or am I just wrong to assume that it should have damaged him?
Thank you if you answer (and even if you don't)!
Angelic systems are definitely more robust than human ones, even when inside a human-style body. We've seen Crowley drink quantities of whisky and wine that would kill a human or render one unconscious. He gets drunk, but his system seems to cope.
I have this silly headcanon that Zoot is, ironically, the one member of the Mayhem who isn't a total stoner, and that's just how he is, no mind altering substances needed.
What's the chances that it will be even half as good as the Muppets one?
