For the last day of Unus Annus, I made an entire wallpaper set to celebrate the end. Unus Annus. Memento mori. 🖤 x

one year.
that was all we had.
unus annus started while i was at a friend's house. i was distracted and didn't have much time to put thought into it until 10 days later, when my friend gave me a gift of her drawing of mark and it reopened my interest in Markiplier and the rest of that part of youtube. i began watching unus annus consistently and looking forward to 3pm est every day. unus annus was something that made 2020 a little easier than what 2020 became.
i have always been a sentimental person. someone who clings on to the past, someone who becomes wistful and nostalgic. i remember sneaking on to my phone during school, 10 minutes before school ended for the day, to watch the newest unus annus video. i remember binge-watching with friends on my bed late into the night. i remember taking screenshots and memeing the heck out of them to post on tumblr. i remember doing some of the challenges- dipping my toes into lake water in january, attempting to write my own song for the barrel.
2019 was a vastly better year than 2020. when annus asked if this was the year i needed, i cried. i never cry. but tears welled up in my eyes and i cried. because this wasn't the year i needed. this wasn't the year i wanted. this- 2020- was the worst year of my life.
but unus annus had helped me through it. i may not have watched all their videos consistently, but they were *something*. they were a light, something lighthearted to laugh at when i needed them most.
am i ready for unus annus to end?
no.
but i think that it's a good sign. a sign that 2021 will be better. a way of letting go of all the awful things, worldwide and personal, that happened this year. and i hope that in years to come i can look fondly upon unus annus, one of the few things to make me smile in 2020, and i can remember all the good times i had.
it's time to let go.
unus annus.
memento mori.
