EVAAN remained a great mystery. his daughter was far more open and creative. she could express herself in her drawings in a way most teenagers failed to do. kenneth would know, being an artist himself.
once the little angel was down, the young man didn’t expect he’d have to take care of the adult of the household. —- “ we should probably settle that tomorrow. “ kenneth was hesitant, uncomfortable. it was one thing to consider the drunken male an acquaintance, a boss. another to be faced with the intoxicated version of an otherwise professional and seemingly caring father. “ do you need help? should i stay and watch alli for the night? “kenneth was uncertain about leaving a small child with a drunk parent. no matter how competent that parent might be on any other day. “ i only have to be at uni at eleven so… “
evaan was a good father. he cared more about alliah than he cared about himself. the young girl was his entire world, and she had been ever since he was seventeen and she was born. however, many people wouldn’t believe it due to evaan coming off as emotionally closed off. he wasn’t that way towards his DAUGHTER, however. he just wants to do what’s best for alli, though, and kenneth was the best babysitter he could find for her. not to mention, alliah completely adored him.
just from the short statement, even though kenneth didn’t come out and say he was too drunk, evaan was able to tell what was going through his mind. “ -- i didn’t have THAT much to drink, “ he said. evaan was about to say no, that he would be find to watch his daughter -- especially when taken into consideration that she was sleeping in her bed -- but he knew he would be extremely hungover in a few short hours, and being awoken early in the morning by alli would be hell. he was ready to sleep off the alcohol AND the breakup. “ would you mind? i’ll pay you extra for the night. “ he said. although evaan isn’t fond of asking for help, his drunken state tore down his walls a bit.

raye had tucked the girl into bed with a grin, calling out, “see ya later, alligator,” only to receive a, “after ‘while, crocodile,” in response. she flipped the switch, bathing the room in darkness before closing the door and heading out to the living room. she sat on the couch until the man got home. alliah had seemingly taken to raye quite well and raye, the same. the girl was bubbly and bright and friendly, something raye would argue she didn’t get from her father. but, raye was smart and kept the comment to herself, pushing herself off the couch when the door opened. she smiled at evaan, grabbing her bag to sling over her shoulder. “four hours. we had dinner and watched a movie, and played in the backyard. she mentioned she had a big play in front of the school coming up at the end of the week and asked if i would come. i told her i’d ask you first.”
evaan knew that raye was the best option for a babysitter as he could find. alliah was completely head over heels for the girl, and if alli loved her that much, there was no way evaan could ruin that, even if he wanted to. but, thankfully, evaan found no reason for releasing raye of the job. when she said four hours, evaan got out the money and handed it to her. “ here you go, “ he said. “ if alli wants you there, i don’t see ANY reason why you shouldn’t come. unless you don’t want to, of course. “ he said, raising his eyebrow. he spoke the statement as more of a question. “ i can let her down easy, say that you had other things to do if you don’t want to sit through a two hour long performance. but i know she would like to have you there, “ evaan said.

this open starter is based on this post.
when evaan was seventeen years old, just starting his senior year in high school, he hooked up with a random classmate. through that hookup came his daughter, ALLIAH. evaan and the girl held different ideas, and in the end, evaan became a single parent, raising alli on his own. ---- “ how long did you watch alli tonight? how much do i owe you? “ evaan found himself asking eight years after alliah’s birth. speaking to the babysitter who he had no intention of getting to know. of course they were attractive, anyone with eyes could see that. but they just weren’t the person evaan saw himself working with. he had a bit too much to drink with the random guy he had been seeing that week, and things ended B A D L Y between them with a breakup earlier that night. unsurprisingly, of course, because that is how it always goes with his relationships.
