Classy and flighty jazz with a vocal duo I don't see often. The art by homake is excellent too.

Ryoko_14 - Aiseyo (ft. Hatsune Miku)

Very reminiscent of wowaka, both in genre (fast-paced alt rock) and visuals (gray/white images with not much shading and strong silhouette). Miku's sharp and loud tuning to crowded lyrics sets it apart just enough from wowaka's style for me to enjoy the song by its own merits.

Mellowcle - SUPERHERO (ft. Kagamine Len) (Magical Mirai 2024 Song Contest Winner)

Congratulations Mellowcle for first MagiMira win and first non-Miku win! Fun and lighthearted RnB, and love the visuals for calling back to last year's Miku design.

Sheeno Mirin - limbo (ft. Hatsune Miku)

As a non-Proseka player, I've only heard mentions of this song, so I'm happy it was finally released on their channel! Melancholic and meditative, especially with that constant synth drone thoughout the song.

Lo-+ - Sakura Moratorium (ft. #kzn, Ci flower)

The minimalist beat made the drop hit hard, despite technically not being hard at all. Rare vb combo is a plus.

Shannon - Bereavement (ft. GUMI)

Shannon once again hitting it out of the park with a song about grief. "It's a good thing you died early," what a lyric for a song like this. GUMI's quiet and muffled mix complements the minimalist acoustic guitar ballad. Beautiful PV too.

Sukoya Cathedral - From Judecca (ft. KAITO)

Can't say I ever expected a "sequel" to Judas, but this is as good as it gets. Wish KAITO could be a little louder in the mix tho.

Yuzuki Yukari Song Highlights 2023

Overall Favorite : Ryoko_14 - Chikaku Kashikoshi-ron. Zenpen (ft. Hatsune Miku, Yuzuki Yukari VOICEROID)

Great pacing with an extremely powerful and cathartic climax. Miku sets the stage, Yukari's measured and professionaly robotic speaking parts adds to the theraputic element. Probably my favorite song from last year, period.

Solo Yukari : Kashuu Ryousuke - Retro Kissa

Stilted rhythms, the producer's signature dry instruments and tuning, and probably one of the more approachable songs from them for newcomers.

Multisinger : sheeno mirin - OSINT (ft. Kaai Yuki, Yuzuki Yukari, Kasane Teto AI)

First of their songs to include Yukari singing a main line (the past few were just her on talkloid/backing duty)! Funnily enough her verse in this is probably my least favorite, but it's less of Yukari being bad and more Yuki and Teto verses being fire as hell.

Tuning : Zoofles - Death of a Sunrise

I don't listen to a lot of English Yukari, but maybe it's time I fix that. Great gradual transition from soft to powerful throughout the song, and Yukari feels at home with the song in both composition and mixing.

Cover : Anonymous Y (ft. Yuzuki Yukari, Chihiro Ishiguro) (orig. PinocchioP ft. Hatsune Miku, ARuFa)

I think a good Anonymous M cover will change the lyrics a little to suit the vsynth covering it, and this sure did! Having Yukari's voice provider doing the human bits also adds a layer of meaning.

MV : Shimizu Izuka - Kikai

The music itself is great, but the MV takes it to the next level. The black/white hand-drawn illustrations and huge decorative border (with a cute little monster!) that stays throughout most of the song is my favorite part.

40mP, Hifumi - Hoshi o Tsunagu (ft. Hatsune Miku)

I'm a sucker for collabs where all the producers use the same voicebank and you can hear their different tunings. And the return of 40tama as well, right in the nostalgia! Also 40mP once again acing the collab unit name with 12340mP, which is quite a lot of meters more from 1640mP.

AHUB, A4。 - 1212。 (ft. KAFU) [Self-cover ver.]

AHUB continues to collab with even more of my fave newer vocaPs, which makes me feel both happy and maybe a bit too seen. Smooth, slick, and stylish; about what I expect from both of these musicians, really.

Nanou - Engeki (ft. Hatsune Miku)

On the list of artists I thought I'd never hear doing Vocaloid again, Nanou/HoehoeP of hello/how are you fame returns for ProSeka. It's cool to see old vocaPs returning with more skill and polish after their old hits. Dramatic, emotional rock with a softer, huskier Miku.

Itsuka Mita Namae - Soukai ni Shizumu Koi no Zangyou (ft. Yuzuki Yukari)

It's always a joy to discover new Yukari producers so says the Yukari fan, and finding this producer with a few singles but not even an NND channel of their own was an experience. This is probably my favorite of all the works from their automated YT channel; a short tropical dance tune with Yukari Rei's sweet voice. Would like to see them make longer songs.

First experience with this producer, and a very positive one! Sou's and Amaga Elu's voice complement each other very well and adds to the "foggy daybreak drive" vibe given by the rest of the song. To quote the lyrics (there's EN subs!), it's a journey to see the someday sunrise.

MaikiP - Ghost Writer (ft. MaikiP, MYK-IV)

A song written by the voice provider of MYK-IV himself! Powerful poprock ballad that showcases MYK-IV in his zone while also serving as a comparison with its voice provider.

Mata Setsunai Sekai o Ikiru - Forever, Forever (ft. Yuzuki Yukari) [warning: rapidly flashing images, glitching visual effects]

Yukari's soft and cutesy voice creates an interesting texture when paired with the hurried cacophony of the instrumentals. The disquieting visuals is also a vibe. Sweets are forever!

AIKA - A Starry Farewell (ft. SAROS) (Official Demo Song)

Another Saros demo! A ballad that puts the voice center stage. A more airier side of Saros with ample falsetto. This makes me want a song with all 3 Eclipsed voicebanks...

HasakiToru - Catlight Dancing (ft. Kaai Yuki)

Groovy RnB! Really like how husky and gritty Yuki sounds here.

Easing myself back into this... on the worst weeks possible, since Vocaduo 2023 just happened. A decent amount of entries from this week from there, but let's start with something that's not:

Ryoko_14 - 感情自読論。(ft. Hatsune Miku, Yuzuki Yukari)

I fell hard for this producer when they released 知覚貸越論。at Mushoku Toumeisai, and again when they released the full version of that track, since the added length solidified the already very vivid world that was already painted in the short version. This song convinced me that they know what they're doing isn't a one-off thing; a soft entry to hook people in, get them with immersive sound design and talkloid segments, and kill them with the drop. Miku's roboticness works well in a song themed around emotional neglect and difficulty expressing emotions. Ryoko_14 is quickly becoming a fave and hopefully yours too if I can ramble enough about them

mikitoP - Boku wa Isonshou (ft. Hatsune Miku) (RIME ver.) [warning: harsh electronic noises at the end]

This song highlights my favorite things about mikitoP's Miku; somber, distant, forlorn. A siren singing condolences as it lures you into the watery depths. There's also a RIME version on the ESHIKARA channel with EN subs, so check that out. (To my understanding, ESHIKARA is a project where VocaPs make songs inspired by illustrations. Check them out!)

ǢǪ - Tenshi Dattandayo (ft. 223, Hatsune Miku, Stardust Infinity)

VocaDuo 2023 is an event where VocaPs and Utaite pair up and collab on a song. Most result in an utaite and vocalsynth versions of one song, but some result in utaite-vocalsynth duets like this one. The vocalsynths only show up for a bit as chorus, but their presence is felt and makes an impact.

Mizore - cyan, cyan, cyanide (ft. KAFU)

As a non-musician, this song is what I imagine getting tipsy at a five-star hotel bar would feel like. Everything looks a bit wonky, but you're still aware and appreciate the smoothness and stylishness of it all, and maybe the reason it's wonky is because you're the one who isn't knowledgeable enough about these things. I like their usual vflower but KAFU's smoother and softer voice tied this down better for me, so I hope they use her more in the future.

This reminded me of their Len work in Poltergeist, which I was a fan of, so it's no surprise I ended up liking this.

Oonuma Parsley - Bonnie & Clyde (ft. COKO)

Smooth saxophone was not the instrument I was expecting to show up with the relatively peppy electronic opening, but things sure went a sleeker and deeper direction in the second half.

Every few months I am shocked out of my peaceful life by the fact that Japanese VocaFunkot is and continues to remain a thing, and an 8-minute remix might as well be it. The samples make me want to chew glass (positive). Insane how fitting NayutalieN's tuning is for this genre.

Cute, fluffy, brass-heavy song that reminds me of OSTER Project a bit. Yukari is appropriately cute and fluffy and probably the best tuning work this producer has to date.

mia/ia - Liberation Keyhole (ft. Yuzuki Yukari)

On the other end of the Yukari spectrum we have something dark and dissonant. This producer's illustration and video is getting better with every upload, love to see it.

Kashuu Ryousuke - Retro Kissa (ft. Yuzuki Yukari)

While I'm still on my Yukari streak... dry alt rock with a dizzying irregular meter. Watching the PV while listening feels like taking shelter from the sweltering summer heat (music) into a cafe that is only slightly less hot but still a welcome reprive (PV). This producer is really living up to the "Natsu no Owari" name.

Moving KAITO ballad. Love how expressive and strong he is in this.

First regulus upload in about a year! Some chill and nostalgic (tropical?) house. Miku is beautiful while still robotic.

UtsuP - SUSHI GO ROUND (ft. ROSE)

UtsuP's electronic influence has been apparent in his latest album and songs, but this was especially trap-y. As an electro enjoyer, his music is still heavy, but the "heavy" is more in an electronic sense than a metal sense in this song. ROSE feels right at home, and out of the CeVIO banks he's been using I hope he keeps using her.

HSP/Kanzaki Hiro - Lost Forever (ft. Hatsune Miku) [Extended Mix]

HSP's back with some trance! Grand with the string section and haunting with the husky, echo-y Miku tuning. The trance feel is even more pervasive in the 6-minute extended mix (which is unfortunately Soundcloud-only).

Amenomurakumo-P - GARBAGE (ft. Chis-A)

Stylish, piano-heavy RnB-rock. Chis-A's mature, natural tuning helped sell it for me. Pleasant surprise from Amenomurakumo-P, since their usual stuff is high-energy.

A Vocacolle piece I missed! Soft and ethereal in a glitchy, electronic way. Love the drum buildup in the prechorus that disappears and then rejoins way later in the chorus.

Babuchan - Re: Smoke of Funeral (ft. Hatsune Miku) [tw implied suicide]

Babuchan remastered two of his older songs (Midnight Moon is the other one) to go with the new dance PVs by Umekappa. The more natural-sounding piano and better mixing/mastering enhances the already creepy atmosphere of the original, and the dance makes it even better.

AiSS, 华牧狸, 夜輪 (orig. A-39) - Kongetsu mo 「Yukifuri, Merikuri」 Mezashite Ganbarimasu!! (ft. Yuzuki Yukari)

A remix of Yukifuri, Merikuri for Phigros 2023 April Fools, and I can imagine why this was an April Fools mix after listening to the switch-ups for the first time. I might not be Christian and it might be April but I welcome Yukari telling me Merry Christmas anytime.

Miyamori Bungaku - king妃jack躍 (ft. Hatsune Miku)

The winner for this year's Magical Mirai contest. A song as sleek and modern as LAM's Magical Mirai designs.

Frog96 - Passing gazes, overlapping words. (ft. Kasane Teto)

Stable, hypnotic techno. Teto is a calming presence despite singing two completely different things in each ear, and the same applies to the PV being surprisingly readable despite displaying those lyrics at the same time.

Oh, this looks like a slow wee- *remembers Vocacolle exists* nevermind. I'll probably make a separate post for that. No commentary this week since my brainpower is going into digesting as many Vocacolle entries as possible.

Yukopi - Kyoufuu All Back (ft. Kaai Yuki)

First experience with this producer! Short song about Yuki fighting for her life out in tornado winds. PV adds to the cuteness factor and I have a soft spot for non-annoying recorder use in silly songs.

Yamaha and Porter Robinson dropped a new Vocaloid 6 voicebank out of nowhere!

Porter Robinson - Humansongs (ft. Po-uta)

I was wondering why this showed up on my Vocaloid-only YouTube page and ready to block until I realized that this was, in fact, a Vocaloid song. It's very Porter Robinson, for sure, but I'll wait and see just how much of it was Porter Robinson's tuning and how much of it was the voicebank.

DECO*27 - Mannequin (ft. Hatsune Miku)

A bittersweet but satisfying close to the Mannequin series. The PV definitely went all out! The callbacks in the music and lyrics were also sweet.

Shimizu Izuka - Neon (ft. Yuzuki Yukari Rei)

First time I've heard Rei this raspy, she sounds good! That intro reminded me of AVTechNO! but it went for something lighter instead.

shiranami - Umi no Oto de Nemuru (ft. Kizuna Akari)

A chill rock ballad that takes its time building up, to great effect. This is probably the first time I hear Akari sound like this, would've thought it was IA from the voice alone.

Real life hit me with a 2x4 this week so mostly a list with minimal commentary.

HSP - Asobi Mashou (ft. Hatsune Miku)

Hardstyle Miku track from HSP with Halloween vibes was not in my books but I'll take more Miku from him. The PVs have also been getting fancier, which is also cool.

Bryan Deister - Swim (ft. Haruka)

Brought to my attention by @/vocaloidscreenshots. Bright and relaxing! Love the guitars in particular.

mia - Mada. to (ft. Kaai Yuki)

Love everything going on with the drum kit. Kaai Yuki (with Miku and Yukari on chorus support) brings out the quiet vibe of the song, but I wish she was a bit louder sometimes.

Ame no Sazanami - 33c (ft. Hatsune Miku)

Simple lyrics building up to a great big drop (that isn't a jumpscare, surprisingly enough) at the end. Interesting how the subtitles don't match the written words at all.
