The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (original recipe) fake book/comic book covers
of my favorite episodes part 2
-
the second one is actually a redraw of this poster of The Mosquito Squadron (1969)! I really love the composition and colors so I thought I’d do a redraw of that!
More ammo in my 'there's definitely a deliberate gay subtext in Man From U.N.C.L.E.' cache. Two episodes set on Greek islands, The Deadly Goddess Affair, and the All Greek To Me Affair. (Yes, The Deadly Goddess Affair comes over as quite Italian, but they're on the Isle of Circe, and Circe is definitely Greek.) Greece, ancient Greece, known for relationships all through the LGBTQ+ spectrum.
In the Deadly Goddess Affair, Illya asserts how he approves of having to be paid to marry a woman (i.e. he wouldn't do it for the love of it.) Napoleon and Illya visit Lover's Lane together. Napoleon and Illya share a double bed in their hotel room, and have a scene where Illya lounges right across said bed. Napoleon and Illya spend half their time almost literally sitting in each other's laps. Napoleon and Illya spend a lot of time trying to avoid marrying any women.
Then in the All Greek To Me Affair, they end up actually together on a double bed, in Greece. Tied up. Bondage and gayness all at once. How very Uncle.
[Image description: two screencaps from Man From Uncle. 1. The Take Me To Your Leader Affair, where Illya (David McCallum grimaces as Coco (Nancy Sinatra) leans in to kiss him. 2. The Hot Number Affair, where Illya is happily leaning in to whisper in Napoleon’s (Robert Vaughn’s) ear.
My first ever edited (and public) video I've uploaded on YouTube! All it took was a Man from U.N.C.L.E. obsession and watching a John Mulaney special with my friend
