mark's video message to yuta... it just made me think about the yumark timeline you posted and how mark liked yuta from the start and before it was a romantic crush he just liked yuta as a person and it's exactly the words mark used in his video message. you really analyzed their bond so well!

yes, it's nice to have mark himself confirm the analysis. he feels "something special" since he first met yuta. it wasn't romantic at that point, but he yearned to be close to him because like he said, he just liked yuta for yuta. yuta as a person. that's how a crush will later develop.

2 key factors to his answer: mark's sexuality, mark's personality with future goals. the two influence each other.

i have always said i think mark is gay (and i think yuta is bisexual). so the possibility of mark marrying in korea is non-existent at the moment.

mark's personality and ambitions. i think it very unlikely he has had much or any relationship experience before yuta. he has not had the time, in his childhood he thought about his dreams and took steps towards big changes that even most adults have not in their 40s (moving to another country, signing contracts with global celebrity company, giving his youth away at 12). pair this with a lot of gen z today who now have the option to not want marriage- the focus is on self love, reaching for goals, building own wealth etc. there is less of an expectation to follow through with the marriage tradition.

now, let's put the two together: mark's sexuality and his personality. a lot of lgbt people do not want marriage or align with values it represents. especially in asian cultural tradition: spending your life with a wife and kids, the man is to be the provider protector, nuclear family requirement to dedicate the rest of your life to. it's no wonder mark says he cannot even imagine it.

compare this to yuta who can easily talk about these topics, there is no discomfort (mark rarely mentions his future in terms of romance/family). yuta can openly talk about a future "wife" and wanting to settle down and have kids. this shows the difference in their future goals and wants, maybe it's easier for yuta to imagine because he has more experience, is older, simply wants these things, if he is bi- the option is there to get publicly married and have kids with a woman. for a gay person, an idol in a conservative country no less, having this social union of marriage is simply not an option. that's not to say of course yuta wants those things with a woman so that's why he talks about it, no. it could simply also mean yuta is more certain about his future, even if it is with another man.

either way, for the two of them, it is something they will have to talk about should they want to have a longterm relationship or want to spend the rest of their lives together, whatever that may be for them. there is no normal type of relationship, society simply believes marriage and kids to be the final destination to a relationship. but the situation is different for everyone. we don't know how yuta and mark label what they have, all we can say is it is nonplatonic. as idols, particularly lgbt idols, even the smallest things that regular couples do will be a huge deal for them, eg: going outside together- it takes a lot of planning and cautiousness for them to do even that. so marriage? that is a whole other beast in itself.

the op of this tweet is right. i suppose most shippers enjoy making these things about jealousy to validate a romantic nature between the ship - something nonplatonic. but even jealousy between friends can be a thing so it doesn't always work. but i digress. the reason i bother to pick up on this is because it demonstrates the questions i used to get about yuta's jealousy and mark's jealousy in the past. i always said yuta is more possessive than jealous (gets bothered when people touch mark or do things for him rather than seeing him interact with others) whereas mark is the one that is actually jealous (gets bothered when he sees yuta interact sometimes with others when it feels it should be him [the yuxiao viral content]), which comes from a place of insecurity (unsettled when yuta doesn't answer his call while he is in japan, etc)

here, yuta is completely unbothered by the way mark interacts with renjun. he's happy even, mouthing "good" and nodding and smiling. he is always encouraging mark to be more confident and do good things - and that's what love is. wanting to see your partner grow and be happy and comfortable in themselves.

it comes down to what yuta thinks he should be doing, what his role is, rather than the others per say. but of course that plays a role in the way he acts here. he first comes in to see what the matter is, but is blocked by jaeyong. he figures it's nothing serious and they're already there so goes back (almost convincing himself he doesn't need to overreact) but clearly it doesn't sit right with him because he hovers in the space and keeps watching mark. but still, jaeyong are blocking him from getting to mark and it would be rude to push them away to get in (this is a serious context, mark doesn't look well and his members are trying to soothe him, it's not a jokey moment where yuta can easily push them away as he sometimes does). so he leaves it.

look how taeyong reacts when he notices yuta, he moves back and doesnt touch mark again. doing this, he makes a space for yuta to come in and take his righteous place.

yuta does tend to get bothered when other members do things for mark when he feels he should be the one doing it. remember mark's birthday last year when jungwoo bought the cake in or, the vampire cat ear game where it was johnny and mark paired?

markhyuck shippers tend to make a lot of stuff up to fuel their ship (which usually gets proven wrong) but since it is fanmade mark cannot really speak on it as it would upset them. however, he found a chance here with the lyrics as the blame will go to the writers/team for stirring ship rumors. mark is very smart - as we all know markhyuck is a very popular ship, especially in korea, mark is very obviously showing that there is a lot of setup and fanservice going on behind the scenes. when he asks "did they intend it" look how dream members and haechan especially, reacts. this is them breaking the glass between what fans can see and what they shouldn't (exposing that fanservice is heavily pushed between the two or in general).

and as you mentioned, with yumark, he fuels it himself. one of the huge differences between yumark and other mark ships. mark wants people to ship or see them romantically.

ah, this is a perfect example of what i just said about mark getting more confident in himself to the point he will say this in front of rest of the members, crew, camera, yuta, fans, etc. take for example confident mark in the past (oppa vlive) which was a voice vlive. this is clearly a levelled-up version because we all know the implications of that statement. he hesitated and his voice was shaky as he finally says what he drew "i- i-" "my- myself" it got played off by yuta "oh you're crazy!" and mark's laugh after but watch yuta after all of that that. he seems a little flustered (head down, focus on the pen, etc)

jaehyun's reaction is a blatant give away, he understands exactly what that means and doesn't fail to hide it

What do you think of Mark and Haechan's relationship? Are they as close as Yumark?

mark and haechan grew up together and haechan was one of mark's first friends in the group. they share a close bond, like real siblings. but you can become distant with your siblings without losing the past or what you shared. when jungwoo joined and when yumark started to get close, the mark/haechan dynamic died down a bit. they weren't spending as much time together just as friends outside of schedules as mark grew closer to jungwoo, chenle, yuta etc. it seems they have gotten closer again, although, their relationship is not like yumark's or where mark will tell haechan his deep worries or concerns, or even like his friendship with chenle and jungwoo- spending a lot of time together just as normal friends. they have a strong bond and understanding of each other from what they have been through together- a circumstantial bond. compared to yumark- who chose to get to know each other better and spend more time together when they weren't given the chance to.

some that this is so interesting to me is the way recently it seems like mark (as shown in videos) has been initiating skinship more, and the reaction of the people around them is very amusing. as in the japan video from mark’s bday, everyone is there, singing loudly, haechan even saying “my mark and my soulmate”, but all mark seems to focus on is mr. nakamoto. the members around him seem confused, one of them even saying “yuta?” back. in the blibli behind content they posted, mark is crushing yuta near the other members, and jungwoo instantly tries to attach himself to yuta. the dynamic has been changing a little, and it’s very interesting to see.

mark has been initiating skinship more since 2021 and especially the second half of 2021 when yuta seemed to pull away from him (until favorite era where yuta came back to his usual self). mark has been getting more affectionate with all members around this time, as before he was not this affectionate with anyone, even getting annoyed by it sometimes. he is growing more into himself and becoming more confident with his identity it seems. he looks more confident on stage and experimenting with different styles, including more gender-neutral or feminine styles. it's nice to see.

yes i saw it. this is mark FINALLY mentioning yuta to his own fans (his bbl) on his own accord (a tiny bit of assistance from yuta heh) but he does mention yuta on his own accord openly now in general. just like he used to back in 2020. they have both returned to their old dynamic with fans (being jokey and open) compared to 2021 when things were a little tense, especially from mark's part (never mentioning yuta, being careful and guarded about it, as if yuta doesn't exist when they are not together etc)

all solo fans make the same complaints. if the idol is unhappy, they have the money and connections to change their situation. yuta gets a lot: actor debut, own radio show, regular content on japanese tv and magazines, etc. the things being complained about are insignificant in comparison
