HORSES BAD

Horses still play a role in lots of people’s lives. 

For example lots of people have ridden horses, and if you bought beef mince from Tesco in 2013, you probably ate 29% horse. 

But what if I told you that these creatures that everyone seems to consider magnificent beasts, the animal that appears as the logo of a sports car are actually poorly evolved and are about as fragile as a wet tissue.

Horses go ZOOM. Going up to 88 kilometres per hour, so they would be arrested for speeding if they were found running in a residential area.

But much like the line Sonic once said, “the problem with being faster than light is that you can only exist in darkness” The takeaway of which is that high speed can come at a cost. $3.5-

When a horse runs fast, their body experiences such a large force that its diaphram smashes against its liver repeatedly, causing the liver to bruise and bleed over and over again.

When horses gallop, their lungs also bleed so much that the blood pours out of their nose. This is why racehorses after a race have their heads held back, so that copious amounts of blood don't start pouring down them on camera. So after finishing a race that  makes them bleed, they are then essentially waterboarded with their own blood. Guantanamo Bay would be a walk in the park for horses.

Their leg bones are also far too spindly for the powerful running they do, so they end up breaking and fracturing quite often. But that’s fine right? Just wait a bit for it to heal!

NOPE!

You can’t do that, if equal pressure isn’t applied to all four of its legs for an extended period of time for reasons such as a break or fracture of a leg, the hoof of the non pressurised leg can just start falling off and dying, the suggested treatment of which is to just have the horse put down. Turned into glue like boxer in animal farm.

And that’s only talking about the effects of horses running, Which is literally the one thing they are supposed to be amazing at.

But there’s even more:

Horses spook easily, they’re like an 8 year old watching the shining before bed. This would be fine, but when a horse spooks it can lead to its spleen contracting suddenly and then other parts of its body to also move around, which can also lead to death.

Horses can die quite easily if there is too much dirt on their food.

Horses have a random space int heir head called the Gutural Pouch, that gets a bunch of fungal infections that can spread around the horse’s body and can cause bleeding and death.

Horses can’t vomit, so all of the things that a normal animal would just throw up and then go back to what they were doing, the horse has to allow to pass through its entire digestive system which can lead to any digestive issue you can think off, including the stomach rupturing and the horse ending up dead.

Dumb Ways to Die: be a horse and do literally anything.

Crabs are pretty cool

Most species of crab can't feel pain, which still probably doesn't mean they enjoy being boiled alive. But it does make it slightly less horrifying.

However Hermit crabs are one of the groups of crabs that can feel pain. 

Hermit crabs are soft, they have no naturally grown shell so they need to get a shell from somewhere else to become safe, the shells they wear are usually from dead sea snails and other molluscs. 

Having good shells is very important to hermit crabs, because if they don't have a shell that is the right size they will die. And so because of this, there is a very competitive housing market for good shells, how competitive you ask? Well hermit crabs will fight each other to the death for a good shell.

Sometimes hermit crabs are nicer to each other though, if a hermit crab finds a shell that is slightly too big for itself, they will wait for another crab that will need the larger shell and will then trade the bigger shell for a shell closer to their preference. So Hermit crab currency is shells. Sometimes very large gatherings of hermit crabs will happen and they will all get around and trade shells with each other as they grow which is pretty cool.

Sometimes this can also go wrong though - if there are multiple crabs gathered round who turn out to want the same shell… as i said before they will fight each other to the death over it.

More recently hermit crabs don't always live in shells though, they also have started to live in plastic cups and tin cans or really anything they can get into. There's probably a mug hermit crab somewhere, or an alphabetti spaghetti hermit crab. Which is kinda cool y'know, hermit crab fashion is probably taking off. However they quite often get stuck in these man made objects , so if you ever see a hermit crab do not let into your can of alphabetti spaghetti, instead take out a mortgage in its name and buy it a semi detached house.

JUNE 19TH (1991) PABLO ESCOBAR SURRENDERS TO THE POLICE

Pablo Escobar is the Beyonce of drugs.

He was responsible for so much of the illegal drug trade that he was one of the  most wanted criminals in the world.

Although he ultimately became the most powerful drug trader in the world, he started off his criminal escapades by stealing and reselling tombstones from graveyards and stealing and selling other low cost items such as stolen stereos.

Imagine having the worlds most wanted drug trader be the guy who sells you a stereo.

After selling stolen stereos, he then went on to become slightly more of a notable criminal – doing things such as putting a bomb in a plane, killing 100 people. You know, just gradually moving up in the criminal world.

He conducted his drug trade ruthlessly - killing government officials, police and civilians in order to preserve his drug empire. This ruthlessness eventually caught the attention of the government who went on to arrest him later after he surrendered to them on the 19th June, 1991.

However this arrest was hardly a usual imprisonment, he was living in luxury in a private jail that was named “La Cathedral” which was equipped with a nightclub, a sauna, a waterfall, and probably a dedicated cocaine room (knowing him).

Pablo also continued to conduct drug trafficking business from his ‘prison’ and even ended up killing 2 cartel members there. 

These ruthless actions would eventually be his downfall, as plans were made (following these two murders) to have him sent to a higher security prison. Pablo didn't like the idea of this and so escaped before he could be transferred, trying to hide in Medellín, Columbia. This was probably the worst choice for a hideout place though, as he ran the ‘Medellín Drug Cartel’ , lived in Medellín and grew up in Medellín. Not exactly surprising that the police went on to quickly find him in Medellín, where they went on to fatally shoot him the day after his birthday.

He was estimated to have a net worth of $25 Billion and he achieved all this without even having to go to college or university. What a motivational entrepreneur and all round cool guy.
