Dear Muriel,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to tell you something this New Year's Eve that weighs on my heart. When the clock strikes midnight, I might kiss another woman, but deep in my heart, I wish it were you. I often wonder if there was anything I could have done differently for things to work out between us. You are always in my thoughts.

I have decided to end our friendship because it was too painful for me to be just friends. But I wonder if we should have done it like Ted and Robin in "How I Met Your Mother", who somehow know they belong together, but still cope with not being together.

The strangest thing is that what I miss most is not being able to kiss you. It's an experience I've never had, and somehow my life feels incomplete because I'll never know what it's like to kiss you. That may sound silly, but it's a thought that often preoccupies me.
