What are your thoughts on the Harwin and Lyonel conversation in episode 6?
This ask has been in my inbox for a hot minute, so here goes nothing!
For Harwin and Lyonel, this conversation is:
A loooong time is coming. His father probably discussed this with him at some point, but now, somethingâs different. Whether itâs because Criston was the one punched, or because the boys were there in the courtyard, or because Joffrey had just been born (with brown hair, no less), but something is different.
The Alicent comment. While this is true, the rumours are alsoâŚtrue. Harwin attempts to use that excuse, and Lyonel immediately shuts it now. âPeople have eyes.â
Lyonel has no choice but to back his son into a corner. He fears what may happen to his son, and for him, thatâs reason enough to remove Harwin from the Red Keep.
For Rhaenyra, this conversation threatens several things:
Harwin is one of her few people of safety. She has her father, Laenor, + her children in the Red Keep. Those are her immediate support systems, and now, Harwin (her sexual partner, close confidant, and father to her children for ten years) may not be present in her life anymore.
Her freedom and autonomy. With Harwin gone, her decision to choose and freely decide how she will operate would be reduced to zero. Itâs LaenorâŚor no one. And since Laenor and her canâtâŚdo anything, itâs no one.
Isolation. This is related to the two points above.
The conversation also removes the fantasy Rhaenyra has been experiencing; although she knows the rumours exist (and persist), she wants to ignore them as Viserys ignores them. But with the knowledge that Harwin will leave, a part of her fantasy and perceived safety (Harwin) is no longer present.
Those are some of my thoughts!

I'm like 20+ days late to this lol, but this blog is officially a year old!
I started it as a fun little side thing, and now I can't imagine life without it!
Thank you to everyone for their comments and interactions and tag games, and thank you to my moots and followers and lurkers for putting up with my Alicent posting.
Here's to (hopefully) even more anniversaries in the future!

We might be the most industrious fandom out in these streets. 11 total minutes of screen time stretched out for 18 months. Just wait until we have eight episodes.
