Senior Spotlight: Carissa
What is your name?
Hey, it's Carissa. I don't want to give my last name out on tumblr, I like my anonymity.
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Hmm, that's hard to say. I would say either Ms. Chan or Mr. Ascensio. Well, Ms. Chan is very nice and provides good insight on things, and overall has a good vibe. Mr. Ascensio is pretty chill and pretty lenient, albeit vague on his assignments, but overall he's pretty neat.
What is one song that you think describes you as a person?
Wow, that's uh, ooh. I've been listening to some things, but uh- that's hard to say, because I don't listen to that many emotional songs, but Alec Benjamin has a lot of good songs that I relate to.
What was your favorite memory from high school?
You know what, that's also hard to say - I didn't make many memories, but I guess this year has been pretty good, you know, made friends and stuff, but I'm mostly looking forward to college.
What was your least favorite thing about high school?
I would say just, not making enough friends or talking to people. Definitely like, I could have done better - not that I really knew how to, but I could have done better on my efforts with that.
What advice would you give for rising upperclassmen?
Do your work, [but] definitely like, don't just do the work, [try to] understand the work, the faster that you can get all [those] basic things from high school done, you don't need to do it later on in life. And if you can't [understand] it, try to find some support, whatever that may be - friends, therapy, [or] other resources. But just know that if you aren't doing something like APs, dual enrollment, or whatever sort of class that would advance you in college, don't worry too much about not doing those things in comparison to your peers. I mean, you may go to the most prestigious college and eventually land a good job, but what about the person who didn't need to pay hundreds of thousands to their college and landed in the same place as you? Everyone's smart in different ways, and don't discredit even the "unimportant" jobs. That's how we get horrible bosses, y'know?
Are you planning to attend college/Where are you going to attend college?
Oh yeah, I'm planning to attend college. I'm still thinking between [Pasadena Community College] or Citrus [Community College], we'll see about that.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
Ooh, so many things, where do I start? Well, it's kind of funny, the most memorable thing I have is that I really wanted to be a jockey. Like, those people who ride on the horses. Also because I really liked animals. Still kinda do but, it's an interesting prospect. I may consider it still - not jockeying entirely, but just like, animal careers.
What are you planning to do for a career?
At the moment, I'm planning to do business - rake in the hard cold cash. But also thinking about a minor in sociology or psychology.
If money, time, location, etc. weren’t a factor, what would you dream job be?
Hm, well the thing I was going to say is not related to any of those, but I guess I'll say it anyways - like, kind of a politician would be interesting, but probably not my go-to. I guess just, having a little shop and doing [a] cat-cafe, that would be kinda cute.
What are you most looking forward to in college/the next stage of your life?
I would say [what I'm most] looking forward to would probably just be meeting new people - just, getting to know people, even if I may not like them. It's an experience [and] a journey, that's how I see it. You know, I don't know whats gonna await me in the future but like, [I'm looking forward to] new journeys in life, new experiences - I know people say you're going to be stuck doing one job or career but I'm not in for that, I'm gonna do a lot of things, especially before my body gets old and I start decaying.
Who do you think is the most dateable historical figure?
What, do you want me to say George Washington? I dunno, haha.
