Today the performance "The Artist Is Present" opens in Dafen.

Dafen is an area in Shenzhen, where everyday painters - copyists from all over China gather to paint new copies of the world artistic heritage.

From the very popular Van Gogh, to Modigliani, Monet, Munch, Leonardo, Michelangelo and now Marina Abramovic ... the artists are present.

In a logic of re-appropriation and free rights, where the property has been cleared and access to the image is open, this site specific performance is dedicated to the practice of copying, modifying, distributing, performing the image in a constant impermanence of the object and of its layers.

The identity of the image is now ubiquitous, multiple, collective. Reproduction, overproduction, end of authorship. The copy is the original.

The performance, launched during the exhibition "The Artist is Present" at the Yuz Museum in Shanghai - a collaboration between Maurizio Cattelan and Alessandro Michele and promoted by Gucci, will end only when the experience of Dafen ends.
