     This performance was inspired by the former exercise and the verb I used to spray. I also wanted to execute a performance that I could do easily on my own as I had no one else to hold the camera for me so this performance offered an outlet of ease. This was inspired by the verb, but also evolved into a social and political commentary thought I will leave the interpretation up to the viewers. Though this performance is a comment on history and ideals of the human condition. I had planned out a full story narrative for this piece, but unfortunately had to cut it down as my phone wouldn’t take video for longer than two minutes. So I did go over the time limit of the project anyways. I wanted to display the full narrative though. There is a story here.I took a picture of the end product of the performance as it is visually interesting. I’m not sure why I chose paint as the focal point of the performance though besides the fact that during this time of isolation I have been painting with acrylics a lot and the texture has kind of caught my imagination. The texture alone is fascinating, but the texture on human skin is even more fascinating and takes on a life of it’s own. The paint is one of the strongest symbols of this work as well as the water. The overall texture is really important too. Overall this piece was a lot of fun. It brought out my inner child, but also transformed into an almost transcendental spiritual experience.

Today the performance "The Artist Is Present" opens in Dafen.

Dafen is an area in Shenzhen, where everyday painters - copyists from all over China gather to paint new copies of the world artistic heritage.

From the very popular Van Gogh, to Modigliani, Monet, Munch, Leonardo, Michelangelo and now Marina Abramovic ... the artists are present.

In a logic of re-appropriation and free rights, where the property has been cleared and access to the image is open, this site specific performance is dedicated to the practice of copying, modifying, distributing, performing the image in a constant impermanence of the object and of its layers.

The identity of the image is now ubiquitous, multiple, collective. Reproduction, overproduction, end of authorship. The copy is the original.

The performance, launched during the exhibition "The Artist is Present" at the Yuz Museum in Shanghai - a collaboration between Maurizio Cattelan and Alessandro Michele and promoted by Gucci, will end only when the experience of Dafen ends.

The Burqa is Present

We were instructed to use "Adaptation" as a method to think about and create a new work of art. Using "adaptation" as a creative guide, I selected two durational performative works by the grandmother of Performance Art, Marina Abramovic.  One of the works that inspired this piece is "The Artist is Present" and the other is "Imponderabilia." I push the adaptation further by concealing myself with a burqa as does my fellow artist, Qendrim Hoti. We station ourselves at the institutional and academic doors of OCAD University, where the class was being conducted during graduate school pursuits. Students, faculty members, campus staff and contracted workers go in and out of the building through the doors that keep opening and closing with loud, echoing sounds. Behind the seated artists daily life is documented and observed on the streets of Toronto, Canada. The performance piece lasted 20 minutes, after which a member from the audience, fellow artist, Jill Price announced, "The Burqa is Present" to indicate the end of the piece.

The initiative is part of a program of events offered by Turin's museums and scaled around World Refugee Day. Claudia Virginia Vitari has been working on migration, refugees and asylum seekers since 2014. The installation on display combines two themes from her most recent project: Interstitial Identities. O-Platz stems from the observation of the lives and protests of a group of asylum seekers (mostly from African countries) who were protagonists of demonstrations at Oranienplatz in Berlin over a period of months. The people portrayed by the artist participated in the protest and the texts used in the installation highlight the stalemate in their lives due to bureaucratic reasons.
