Okay, but just imagine this, if you will.

Bellamy and Clarke are in the middle of a heated argument— about Madi, Echo, pretty much everything except them; they’re dancing around the subject as they’ve been doing since the season began. And then, on a whim of impulsiveness, of frustration and passion and just goddamn love, Clarke kisses Bellamy.

He doesn’t hesitate. He kisses her back and it’s better than he ever imagined, and for a moment, everything else fades away and they fall into each other.

But then he remembers. Echo. Madi. The grounders. War. He pulls away, staring wide-eyed at Clarke.

“You can’t just kiss me, Clarke,” he says, his voice raw. All the memories and feelings and love and grief rushing to him at once.

She gives him a microscopic smile. “Yeah? Why not?” she challenges, even though she knows why.

All the reasons she convinced herself they would never work during those six years apart. The bad timing. Always being on the brink of war, of having to take care of everyone else and find time for each other in between.

“Because I— you—“ Bellamy begins, for the first time at a loss for words.

He knows that she can’t just kiss him like this; it wasn’t supposed to happen this way. They were supposed to have more time. It was supposed to be slower, more deliberate. How can he tell her that?

“I know,” she assures him, because she does. “But I had to do it. Just once. I’m sorry.”

For a moment, everything is quiet. Clarke’s looking at him expectedly, waiting for him to say something. He can’t.

She turns and starts to walk away, and Bellamy feels a slight edge of panic. She’s left him too many times and he just can’t let it happen again. His arm shoots out and catches her wrist, pulling her back to him. They’re close, and he can finally look into her beautiful blue eyes; the eyes that seem to have lost their spark somewhere.

“Brave Princess,” he says, and she gives him a small smile before he leans down and kisses her again.

Properly this time. Because she’s Clarke and he’s Bellamy, and after all this time, this is what they deserve.

Each other.
