the difference between light and misa is that light deserves to be manipulated psychologically tortured and eventually killed by his evil detective bf. misa deserves to hold her shinigami gf's gigantic skeletal hand and take her on dates every day for 200 years while they try to find out which kind of milkshake rem likes best

I am not a nie brothers scholar nor a jgy scholar so idk how to properly put these thoughts together, but I think it's unfair to act like nie huaisang would've tried to break up nieyao. what makes the tragedy and betrayal so delicious is that meng yao was his friend. in cql, he's visibly really worried about him and is pacing outside while nmj decides to kick him out. in the novels, jgy was constantly showering nhs with gifts tailored to his interests. nie huaisang liked him and trusted him, and that ultimately makes what happens later far more interesting than if he had hated him the whole time

I have a lot of feelings about the rise of he would not fucking say that attitudes in fandom spaces and the paralysing effect it can have on creators. As a writer i think it’s important to just write what feels true to you and not what you think others will “approve” of. Like even as a reader i have enjoyed a variety of different characterisations that all work because the writer makes them work for a particular story. And a fic that’s written out of character to some will be in character to others. Writing fic is not your job you’re not being paid it’s your hobby please. Make them as close to canon as possible. Make them completely different. Who cares! Have fun! Have so much fun! There is an audience for every kind of fic and every kind of character interpretation i promise

you know what i'm gonna get sappy for a second bear with me
there are a lot of posts and memes for writers about how hard writing is and how annoying it can be and how dispiriting it can feel when we don't make progress the way we'd like to. and those are true, and relatable, and funny! i've been there!
but maybe it doesn't get said enough in the other direction, so I'm gonna say it: I love writing. i love the process of putting phrases together and testing them for cadence and flow; i love knowing that there is a word for exactly the thing I want to convey, even if I just can't think of it right now, and going onto a thesaurus and being like there she is, that's the one!
but more than anything, I love the ritual of constantly asking myself "okay, and then what happens?" and feeling the same sense of delighted surprise every single time when somehow, a part of me I wasn't consciously aware of knows the answer. that experience, where my brain provides me solutions I didn't know it was working on, feels like a miracle every time. and getting into a productivity groove where I keep knowing the answers is one of the best feelings on the planet.
and sure, sometimes I don't know the answer, and it's hard and unsatisfying and see above about how easy it is to joke about how writing's the pits, but... that just makes it even more special when I'm firing on all cylinders, you know?
anyway, yeah. w r i t i n g.

we still get immediately shoved out of our immersion in tv shows or films when The Girl find a dead body and immediately shrieks - we just don't find it realistic because we're pretty confident most people would gasp rather than shriek (i.e. sharp inhale rather than sharp exhale) and it also feels unnecessarily (and predictably) misogynistic too, as men encountering corpses almost never do the same on screen
also of course please do tell us if you've actually encountered a corpse unexpectedly, because tumblr is absolutely a place where some people have done this thing and we love a good anecdote
suddenly imagining "burst into song" as a potential response

A lot of the time when I see people talk about aromanticism they bring up the way a lot of us tend to think that romance is just exaggerated in fiction and are surprised that people feel that way in real life and not just in the movies and that's honestly kind of funny, imagine just going about your life and one day finding out that most people's high school years were actually like disney channel and you're the exception

What's that bro? You began interacting with a media from a different country than yours and/or was made in time period different than the recent present day? Haha that's sick bro! Keep expanding your horizons bro! You're remembering to take into account that sociocultural norms, gender roles and genre expectations are different from what you are used to and meeting the story halfway, instead of forcibly superimposing your ideals into the story, right bro? Right? Right?

@waitineedaname tagged me in a "list five topics you can talk about for an hour without preparing any material" post, and I kind of forgot about it for a hot sec, but thank you!
1. Elisabeth das Musical. It was the first powerpoint party presentation I gave, and I had to cut out like half of my historical background part otherwise that could have been its own thing. And I didn't even start talking about the music or translations
2. Bartimaeus. Also a powerpoint topic, and I've written several analytical posts about it and read academic writing about it. Idk what exactly I'd say, but I'm sure I could fill an hour
3. Aromanticism 101; aka love is a social construct (this is not a bad thing, but it does mean that there are limits). If I run out of stuff to talk about, I could move onto related topics such as gender is a social construct, and what does 'social construct' even mean anyway
4. The Radiant Emperor duology: it has fate, it has gender, it has languages, it has real Chinese history, it has a diasporic author, this was made for me to go on long rants about it
5. Linguistics: this is a topic about which I know a little about a lot of things, so I'd have to hop around between subtopics a lot, and it would be my least coherent talk, but I'd have fun
@arofili @midnight-mismanagement @magpiedragon @ammoth @gallus-rising @allpurposepanda @cuddly-asexual @shadowy-dumbo-octopus

Humans have finally managed to land on Mars, only to find a locked safe buried in the Martian soil. The key is apparently on Earth, but no one knows where.

I think a very important unwritten piece of locked tomb canon is that corona and ianthe are absolutely both writing home regularly to mummy throughout the entire series - not with any helpful plot points or anything, they just want pocket money. Their mother, hatefully running a planet that she also hates, has the knack of silently wiring pocket money in an incredibly nasty and hurtful way - despite not accompanying it with a note or anything - just a sort of careful psychic warfare involving timing, amounts of money, the transfer service, etc.
(Although at at one point she asks if one of them has Babs, or if he’s dead or what. Corona ghosts her and ianthe texts back “who”)
Anyway, breaking off your meeting with god or the rebels or whatever because mummy has just sent you $465.73 in THEE bitchiest possible way

she can shoot a gun faster than a human can think. she is very good at identifying emotions as long as she has access to complete physiological data. she is angry. her singing voice sucks ass. her silence is worse. she's a fragment of what she used to be but also more than she ever was. she knows ten million songs. she knows everything. she didn't know she was intrinsically worthy of love until two and a half books in and then only because a space ship told her
