Part One

Interviewer: Here I am live with Harry Styles, on his 2nd album as a solo artist. Former One Direction member, one of the biggest boybands in the world. How are you, Harry?

H. Styles: Very well, thank you.

Interviewer: I like the new do, Harry, although I hear there have been a few ballads and tears for those long locks you had for, what 2/3 years?

H. Styles: Thank you, that’s very kind. I’ve been growing it out for about 3 years, yeah. Unfortunately, I had to have it cut for Christopher Nolan’s film which I appear in… which should be available on DVD in about two months

Interview: *laughing* Clever promo there, Mr Styles.

H. Styles: I try.

Interviewer: Getting to the topic at hand, though, which is rather unfortunate because I would love to talk about your performance…

H. Styles: *clearing his throat and shifting uncomfortably* I have an album coming out, have I mentioned?

Interviewer: Some other time then. Tell us a little bit more about your self-titled album?

H. Styles: It’s self-titled because not only am I a self-indulgent narcissist but these last two years have been very… enlightening for me. It felt fitting because when I left One Direction, I was still finding myself and my ‘sound’, if that makes sense. I was 20/21 and very confused and in the past year I’ve really discovered who ‘Harry Styles’ truly was.

Interviewer: Let’s talk about what led to this discovery, Harry. You’ve been in the media’s eye since you were very young. Only 16 years old, is that correct?

H. Styles: Yes, that’s correct. I auditioned in the X-Factor and was eventually formed into a group with several other lads, I don’t know if you know them.

Interviewer: They were here just the other week, actually! Very playful and thoughtful boys.

H. Styles: *chuckling warmly* That sounds about right.

Interviewer: So you were formed into One Direction with four other boys and didn’t win the X-Factor… but you won the world.

H. Styles: Christ, that’s cheesy but still true, yes.

Interviewer: Since then you’ve won countless awards and traveled the world, forming memories that’ll serve anyone several lifetimes. This Christopher Nolan film will be your 2nd film to properly star in, as well, because of the One Direction movie that came out in 2013. You’ve achieved quite a lot in your life, Harry.

H. Styles. That is true.

Interview: But you weren’t happy.

H. Styles: *quietly* No, I wasn’t.

Interviewer: Care to elaborate for me? In your own words and you don’t have to go into too much detail if you don’t want to, Harry. Take your time.

H. Styles: Thank you. *silence fell for a few minutes as Harry visibly appeared to take a few deep breaths* It’s, well, it’s because of someone who was once very close to me, he actually directed our movie and several of our music videos. He wasn’t a very good person.

Interviewer: You’re talking about Ben Winston, is that correct?

H. Styles: Yes, that’s correct. We got to know him a bit after the X-Factor when he directed our 1st documentary. So technically, Jackie I’m up to 3 movies.

Interviewer: Ah yes. I apologize for not properly not doing my research Mr. Styles

H. Styles. You’re forgiven.

Interviewer: Tell me what happened next, Harry

H. Styles: *silence* Sorry, this never gets any easier no matter how many times I say it.

Interviewer: I don’t blame you. We can continue on and come back to it later?

H. Styles: No, no. This is why we’re here to ‘officially’ address… this, as well as promote the album, of course. Just give me a few minutes, please.

Interviewer: Of course. *video cuts ahead*

H. Styles: Ben had always taken special interest in me for some reason. Since the beginning, really. It wasn’t so bad at first because we got ‘big’ so quickly and we were never really alone. He was more of the ‘behind the scenes’ guy and spoke to our management and producers. I only saw him once or twice but he always gave me… lingering looks, touches that sort of thing.

Interviewer: We’re you nervous at all?

H. Styles: Yeah, a little bit. But I didn’t think too much of it because he wasn’t actually doing anything, right? *self deprecating laugh* Now, if I could talk to my younger self, I’d tell him to just tell somebody. No matter how silly or unimportant it felt like.

Interviewer: This is a very good message to young people now, I think. You’re doing a lot of good here, Harry.

H. Styles: I hope so. If this could make any young boy or girl find the help they need or maybe realize that what’s happening to them is wrong… then this might all be worth it. *another video cut* It didn’t actually get ‘bad’ till our second tour when I was ‘legal’ and working on our third album. Ben had gotten promoted since then and was working with us for our movie and Midnight Memories album music videos. *hesitation* He tried getting close to me. Getting me coffee and standing close to me, putting his hand on my back and thigh, talking to me with his mouth next to my ear or neck.

Interviewer: Christ.

H. Styles: Yeah, that’s really all that was until one evening… I don’t even remember when it was but it must’ve been sometime in-between filming for the movie. He, well, he… let’s just say he ‘touched’ me in very uncomfortable places and at the time I felt absolutely powerless. This was a man I’ve known since I was 16 and new to the industry and he was very experienced in manipulation and appearing like a very good person.

Interviewer: So what did you decide to do?

H. Styles: I kept it quiet and didn’t tell anyone. I didn’t know what to do. Ben was with us day in, day out and very important to our success. He spoke to me afterwards too and anytime he… uh, ‘touched’ me and said I was essentially worthless. It was my word against his and at the time… his voice seemed more important. Even though now, I realized that it simply wasn’t true.

Interviewer: I saw in one of your early solo interviews that you were receiving therapy, was that a part of your realization that your voice was more important than what you thought before?

H. Styles: Yes. It must’ve been mid to late 2013 when I first thought about leaving One Direction and it was a long battle of lawyers with my management and Ben.

Interviewer: That must’ve been difficult.

H. Styles: Yeah, especially since I hadn’t told the boys that it was something I was fighting for. I remember making loads of excuses why I couldn’t go out for a lads’ night or summat. It wasn’t a good time.

Interviewer: When did the boys eventually find out?

H. Styles: When I won and we were finding a plausible time for me to leave, which we eventually decided was the middle of our Where We Are Tour.

Interviewer: I can’t imagine they were pleased about it.

H. Styles: Not at all, understandably. What happened between Ben and I stayed that way for a long time so the boys were completely in the dark. To them it was like my head got too big for my shoulders and I wanted to go solo to try to get ‘bigger’ than One Direction.

Interviewer: They know now that it’s not true, of course.

H. Styles: Of course. They’re very understanding and felt really bad about not staying in contact after I left, which is ridiculous. It’s great now. We have proper lads out and in pretty regular contact. Very fortunate because I missed them quite a bit.

Interviewer: Thats sweet, I’m glad. So you just won the legal case for leaving One Direction. What happened next?

Is Harry Styles’ ‘Girl Crush’ cover about Louis Tomlinson?

FIRST OF ALL: LYRICS “I got a girl crush, I hate to admit it but. I got a heart rush, it aint slowing down. I got it real bad. Want everything she has- that smile and that midnight laugh, she’s giving you now” (when I first listened to it, I thought it was that Harry wanted the girl to smile at him... but in truth, he wants her features because the guy likes that about her)

“I want to taste her lips yeah cause they taste like you. I want to drown myself in a bottle of her perfume” > FIRST OF ALL, “I want to taste her lips cause they taste like…you” (who’s you? certainly not this ‘girl’)

“I want her long blonde hair, I want her magic touch. Yeah cause maybe then you’d want me just as much. I got a girl crush” (again, who’s you?) ALSO, I want her hair and her magic touch so you (not the girl) would want me just as much.

“I don’t get no sleep. I don’t get no peace. Thinking about her… under your bedsheets. The way that she’s whispering, the way that she’s pulling you in. Lord knows I’ve tried, can’t get off my mind.” > meaning: I can’t sleep because you’re with this girl and not me.

“Lips…taste like you…drown myself….long blonde hair…magic touch… you’d want me just as much. I got a girl crush.” and then it repeats...

REMINDER THAT people cover over people’s songs most often because the lyrics or tone resonates with them. Coincidences within songs make your heart ache because you can relate to it so much more deeply.

Perhaps this song resonates so deeply with Harry because he can relate to the original writer of this song. The entire point of this song was that the woman wanted to be the girl so she could be with the man of her affections. (Harry wants to be Louis’ girlfriend so he could be with Louis? ASADKFH)

Essentially... “a girl obsessing over another girl because that girl stole her lover….” it’s not about a girl crushing on another girl. Harry doesn’t even like the girl! He likes the person that the girl is with!

Liz Rose: …It’s about the girl. She wants to be the girl that’s got the guy she wants.

Now, what does Harry himself have to say about it? All he’s said so far is, (Girl Crush) is “one of my favorite songs recently that’s come out of this place (Nashville)”

BUT THAT’S NOT FUCKING ALL. The first time Harry performed Girl Crush was at Nashville… in September…on the 25th. (I got chills when I discovered this part, my heart shattered)

Is it a coincidence that Harry chooses to sing a cover about the person of his affection’s lover three days before the supposed Larry anniversary? Probably not..

Running Out of Time

I KNOW I KNOW, I DID A THING AND. Wellp. I still have my texting au and youtube au THAT I STILL DIDN’T FINISH. Plus my self-indulgent little fic. I’m a mess. Anway. I liked this idea and decided to experiment with it a little bit. Will it be a real chaptered fic monstrosity? IDK- its for you all to decide

Anyway- the thought behind this is there are a lot of modern immigrant Alex au’s (which is understandable, c’mon it’s the entire pt of the musical) and I was like- wait, what if… it was a HS au and they all went to Nevis for their junior/senior trip????????

Chapter One: Accepted Applicants

It was Burr’s junior year and the city of NYC was once again raising funds for fifteen lucky high school students to have the once in a lifetime experience of going out of the country to spend one semester abroad in someplace unknown.

And Aaron Burr was determined to be one of them.

Despite being the literal youngest member from the Class of 2018 in New York High School, he knew deep within his veins that he could do it. He could beat thousands of kids who were two years his senior… and he’d do it without rushing or making rash decisions. This was his legacy.

“Aaron Burr, congratulations.”

He’d done it.

John half-assed his application like he did with everything else. What was the point? Twenty or so spoiled kids with rich parents who’d bribe their way to letting their precious children have the cultured experience New York City provides.

There was no way he was going to spend three fucking weeks with a few snotty rich kids, sweating and wishing there was wifi. No, sir-ee. Not John fucking Laurens.

“John Laurens, congratulations.”

Well. Fuck.

Hercules was encouraged by his grandfather to apply for the New York scholarship thingy (something about studying abroad or whatever.) But honestly? He could care less. He’d prefer to spend his time at the shop, oldies music in the background and his callused fingers expertly patching up ripped jeans and weaving designs into works of art.

“Hercules Mulligan, congratulations.”

He wondered briefly if they’d let him bring his needles abroad.

Probably not.

Thomas knew he’d get it. He knew that his application easily trumped everyone else’s with how damn impressive it was. (Come on- two years in France his freshman and sophomore year? Puh-lease.) It wasn’t as though he was missed at home and it was easier not thinking about it when he was in another country.

Still. Thomas knew he’d breathe better once he heard his-

“Thomas Jefferson, congratulations.”

It appeared he would miss four more months of American history.

Oh well. Thomas was a fast learner.

James could hardly fucking breathe. His chest felt like it would collapse and he felt dizzy with trepidation. Or maybe it was the lack of oxygen? Whatever it was, James was sure he’d pass out amongst his senior class and god wouldn’t that be embarrassing? It would get in the yearbook for sure. And all people would remember was that he was the kid who broke his neck.

“-Jefferson, congratulations.”

Oh god, he should’ve fucking guessed. Of course Thomas would get in and leave James behind.

“-ulations.”

For whatever fucking reason people were crowding around him and clapping his back.

People were so weird.

Angelica Schuyler was a presence to behold and she knew it. She knew that she’d stand out amongst the other thousands of applicants because that was just how she was. The question of whether or not that would be enough? Well, it wasn’t even a question.

“Angelica Schuyler, congratulations.”

She was satisfied.

Eliza bit her lip as her sister’s name was called. Of course NY had to pick at least one Schuyler, but two? Why was she even surprised that they had called Angelica? The elder Schuyler’s application was even more impressive than hers. Fuck. And she was looking foreword to learning a new culture and language and-

“Elizabeth Schuyler, congratulations.”

Holy shit.

“Betsy Ross, congratulations.”

“Samuel Seabury, congratulations.”

“John Jay, congratulations.”

“John Adams, congratulations.”

“Theodosia Bartow, congratulations.”

“Charles Lee, congratulations.”

“George King, congratulations.”
