not only this but my job is very physically strenuous. we have a huge area to cover and are constantly on our feet, repeating the same greetings over and over and people are So unbelieveably rude and just plain fucking stupid and need to be spoken to like theyre children. is it so much for me to approach a customer whos been waiting for 5 minutes and expect them to know what they want already? dont people get embarrassed about this? the amount of times a day ill approach a customer and greet them, ask them how they are, and instantly hear '1kg of the ham' first of all. HOW ARE YOU. you UGLY cow. secondly. WHAT HAM. or when customers try and tell me they know better than me. a lady asks me where our cold meats are i say just down here she says NO i dont want salami. well. YOU WITCH. if you looked. WITH THE EYES ON YOUR HEAD. youd see. RIGHT NEXT TO THE SALAMI. is. THE COLD MEATS.

did i get a raise did anyone in my store get a raise after the award our store won No. probably the managers. But not the workers.

it really is crazy how much people treat customer service workers like we arent autonomous human beings with thoughts and feelings and that were tired after 8 hour shifts even in what people think are 'easy' jobs Because nobody really comprehends the extent to which our jobs can be hard . customer service work can be classified and should be as performance jobs.

like i work in a chain grocery store And its considered 'the best' one out of all the others because We won a pretty big award this year and you know who gets absolutely no credit or recognition or appreciation for it are The hundreds of employees who keep the store running. management gets all the credit despite the people who literally keep the store running Getting nothing for such a huge achievement. the chain makes millions, maybe even more . i have no idea what my store alone makes But the award it got is pretty freaking indicative of them being a huge portion of those millions. and yet we have budget cuts, a skeleton crew for staff, constant emails regarding our customer service, even when customers are rude, snappy, impatient and approach us at the most inconvenient times. everyone seems to forget and/or ignore that most of us are studying, being paid minimum wage and are young adults With other life struggles that can make us Not want to deal with rude customers on the daily.
