Death of the Author is coming to Backerkit on May 14th!
In this solo tarot TTRPG, play as a character struggling for agency in their story. Twist scenes in your favor, but beware retaliation from your author.

Often "what can I do to take care of myself?" is a more actionable question than "how do I love myself?" or "how do I recover?" Because often you don't need to solve your deepset emotional issues to realize that you'd benefit from eating lunch, or going for a walk, or actually doing your laundry

thinking more about authorial insecurity in fiction... it truly is frustrating to me when an author is clearly ashamed of their own premises, or is preemptively responding to imagined criticism. this is where you get a lot of unfunny humor about how stupid genre conventions are and how Unrealistic fantastical/speculative elements are. like ultimately the reason that authors undercut and overexplain their own works is because they're insecure about audience reaction and want to get ahead of the haters by proclaiming that they're Not Cringe. this will not work because I, the ultimate hater, will eventually find them and make one million posts about how much I despise irony poisoning

ive seen so much of this bizarre liberal sentiment over the past few months that writes off protests and support for palestine on the assumption that people are doing this because its trendy and exciting, as if to discourage people from even thinking there could be anything outside of disinterested complacency and self interest. is it so hard to believe people have principles and ideals that are important to them? that people have political beliefs they want to see actualized? that people and social relations could be anything more than they currently are?

Of all of the hairsplitting privilege-related terminological distinctions that people have tried to introduce on here, one that I have actually found useful and striven to adopt in my own speech and writing is the poor/broke distinction. I now wince whenever someone describes a thrifty PhD student from a middle-class background as "poor", for example, even though I know that in common usage there's nothing wrong with saying it that way. It's a useful distinction that I didn't previously have a good linguistic handle for.

A closer look at the hand stitching on my green quilt. I’m doing what’s called an orange peel design, using a template I made myself. I’m so happy with it and really glad I took the time to start over
Also this quilt has been bought! Thank you so much to that kind person for supporting my art!

One thing that's vitally important to remember is that feeling ''weirded out'' is not a form of harm. It is a completely normal part of socializing. It is the feeling of encountering something unfamiliar. In order to be a kind person, you must learn to how to distinguish between "harmful" and "weird." And then you must accept the weird.

I should be allowed to just say “I adore you” and “I love you” and “I want to keep you in my life for as long as possible” to my friends whenever I want without it being overbearing. I’m thinking it lovingly at people. I’m beaming my overwhelming affection into my friends via undetectable radio waves

You have to recognize your capacity for harm. You cannot omit the harm you've done to others to remain "good." Anybody can be a bigot. Anyone can be an abuser. Anyone can harm anyone at any time even those who have been harmed themselves. The world is not made up of victims and villains only, this is life, not a Saturday morning cartoon and you are a human being who can or maybe even has hurt others and you HAVE to acknowledge that to learn to be better.
