This afternoon, the sky in Pandora looks beautiful. The sun is shining brightly, its glow entering between the leaves of the trees. The moon's reflection filled almost half of the sky, the wind blew lightly, and the forest creatures seemed to wander peacefully.
However, all that beauty seems to be in contrast to what Neteyam feels in his heart, where today is the day when he will take you to meet Va'ru, your lost lover.
Neteyam standing in front of the marui. He was already wearing all the equipment for a long ride, including his leg and arm armor, cummerbund, and also his leather cape. His toes tap the ground nervously, hiding his restless mood inside. He closes his eyes and tries to calm himself.
You’re doing the right thing, Neteyam. His inner voice tried to encourage himself, although deep down, he knew this was highly unusual. What kind of man would willingly give up his fiancée to give her away to another man? He would love to hold you tight right now and never let you go, but how could he do that if it wasn't his name that was written inside of your heart? On the other hand, now Neteyam’s feeling for you is already entangled too deep like a trench of his affections for you. The bond is too strong within himself, even he is unable to escape from it.
There is no other choice left for Neteyam. Your happiness is his priority, even if it means destroying his own.
He smiles bitterly, trying to accept the path the Great Mother has given him. Trying to be optimistic even though his path seems like a painful one. Her grandmother, Mo'at once said that there is always a beauty waiting after the storm. Perhaps Eywa had another destiny for him? Minutes passed in silence, until he heard your voice calling him slowly from inside the marui.
Neteyam turns his head around, and sees you stepping outside the marui.
Your figure slowly appeared. Your dark complexion contrasts with the bright sun, making your ivory pattern stand out and glows like pearls. You wear a beautiful top that is decorated with flowers. Your forehead is adorned with a headpiece connected with colored feathers that dangle on the left side of your face. Your long black hair is loose in waves without braids, and sways gently with every step you take.
According to the plan, you’re going to meet Va'ru and mate with him this afternoon. So, you decided to dress like Na'vi women who are about to mate, wearing all the best ornaments you have. You look so gorgeous, so divine, just like the Great Mother herself.
Seeing you in this form, seeing you look so beautiful, makes Neteyam want to cry. But then he felt a deep ache in his chest. Pain, and bitterness. All this beauty, is not for him. You made yourself so beautiful just for Va'ru, not for him.
You look very beautiful, Y/N. Neteyam praised you in his heart. He wanted to say it, but the words that came out of his mouth were different.
"Okay, Y/N. Let's go now, when the weather is still nice," Neteyam then walked slowly to his ikran, but he realized something as his fingers then touched his forehead.
"Wait, I forgot to use my ikran visor," he grins shyly. Neteyam then walks toward the marui, but you raise your arm in front of him.
“Let me take it for you,” you smile at him. He lifts his eyebrow in curiosity, but he finally nods.
You take his visor from the table and then walk towards him. Neteyam say thanks and his hands stretched forward wanting to take his visor. But you are faster, both your hands lifted upward facing his face, and putting the visor on his forehead.
What is she doing? The thought came to Neteyam's mind. When you put the visor on his forehead, you both look at each other. Silence fell as Neteyam's eyes gazed into your beautiful golden eyes, framed with delicate lashes within your dark blue face that glistened in the sunlight.
Those eyes, which had always been Neteyam's weakness. He couldn't count the number of times he had inadvertently spent immersed in the beauty of your eyes, savoring every second when your eyes met his gaze. Your eyes always look radiant, like the endless beauty of the blue sky. They never lie, always reflecting what your soul is feeling. And for some reason he couldn’t figure out why, Neteyam feels that your eyes look at him in a different way today.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During the journey to Angel Falls, it was all silent. You sometimes stole glances at Neteyam flying beside you, but he was always focused ahead. His hair and robes fluttered towards his back. Your hands then went into your waist pockets, grasping something that you kept there tightly.
When you finally arrived, you both dismounted from your own ikran, and Neteyam approached you.
"We have arrived," Neteyam smiles. He raise his hand, his fingers pointing to a spot beyond Angel Falls. His lips murmures a few words, clues to Va'ru's hiding place.
"Thank you, Neteyam," you respond to his explanation.
He smiles and nods. Neteyam then steps back, allowing you to take a few steps forward and take in your surroundings. Your ears flick up and down, listening to every sound that comes up. It's hard to hear anything other than the roar of the waterfall, but when you concentrate fully, you can hear another sound - the sound of someone walking.
You want to ask Neteyam, did he hear that sound too? But when you turn away, he is already flying with his ikran, moving away from you. You stare at his departure in silence, then you hear the sound of someone walking again.
Now you catch a glimpse of the man's appearance. He is well-built, with broad shoulders and toned arms. His pair of blue legs look like a model's. His long hair falls over his shoulders, tied with a hair tie, showing a glimpse of his firm chin. There was only one person, who styled her hair like that, and you knew who he was.
"Hello, Va'ru," you call him softly.
The man's ears perk up at the sound of your voice, looking very surprised. He slowly turns around, slowly looking at you. It is indeed Va'ru, your lover from the past. Your lover, who used to always be by your side. Your lover, who used to give you all the bouquets of flowers you liked. Your lover, whose silly jokes you sometimes miss. Your lover, whose face always graced your dreams after your painful breakup. Your beloved, who sadly was never liked by your father.
Now, his face is still exactly the same as you remember. But this time his eyes were filled with shock, like he was looking at the angel of death.
"Y/N/? Is this really you?" Va'ru calls out to you hesitantly. He slowly stepped closer to you, but his body language was still tense, he looked down and his forehead wrinkled.
"Yes Va'ru, this is me," you say slowly, trying to reassure him.
The crease on Va'ru's forehead slowly disappears, and a happy smile is painted on his face, so wide it looks like it's about to rip his jaw off. He runs towards you and he hugs you in a rush. His hand strokes your head gently, and his chin rests on your shoulder.
"How are you, Y/N?" Va'ru greets you.
"I'm good. How about you?" You say in return.
"Never been better. I've been waiting for you all this time!" He smiles happily, and you can hear the excitement in his tone. He takes your hand and walks forward, towards his marui that he made himself to survive here.
"Come with me, I'll show you my marui," Va'ru invites you, his hand slowly swinging in a happy mood with your fingers still in his.
"I'll stay here, Va'ru," you respond, and you dont even move a muscle.
Va'ru realized something. Your tone from earlier sounded so flat, in stark contrast to the enthusiasm in his words. When he turned around, he found you hadn't followed him into his maroon. He furrowed his brow, and walked over to you.
"Y/N, what's wrong? Come here, get into my maru!"
"Varu. There's something I want to talk about..." you spoke slowly, and you took a breath, trying to prepare the words that would come out of your mouth.
"Hey, why are you so stiff? Just talk about it, what is it, Y/N?" Va'ru approaches you closer and holds your hands, trying to make you relax. He sees that you're still wearing the turquoise ring he gave you, and that makes him smile happily, his fingers stroking the ring on your finger.
Your eyes look at Va'ru. If only this meeting had happened a few months ago, perhaps you would have been in his arms by now. Perhaps you would have been in his marui, admiring Va'ru's survival skills near the waterfall. Perhaps you would have even kissed him, and never wanted to be separated from him again. But now, things have changed.
The name that fills the corners of your heart has changed.
"You once promised to my father that you would not see me again. So, I spend my time searching for you. But, there is one thing that you should know, Va'ru," you finally speak, and Va'ru raises his eyebrows waiting for the rest of your sentence.
"It's Neteyam who helped me find you," Your sentence continues, and you release your grip slowly from Va'ru's hand. Your hand is now reaching for something, which has been kept in your waist pocket. It's your engagement necklace from Neteyam.
"Va'ru, I'm engaged to Neteyam now," you declare, as you show him the engagement necklace on your palm.
"Yeah, and you said it was a stupid arranged courtship, right?" Va'ru responds to your words and chuckles. "You don't love him," He continues, hoping for you to chuckle with him, but your expression doesn't change at all.
Va'ru realizes something is strange, what's wrong with you?
"Va'ru, you taught me how to love, and I'll be forever grateful for that. But, there is another man who shows me the true form of love. He is the most sincere man I've ever known," You smile a little at the end of the sentence, the thought of the man who now owns your heart bringing a glisten to your beautiful amber eyes.
On the other hand, Va'ru's smile disappears, his face now covered in astonishment that turns into a look of fear. His mind was filled with a sense of fear, who was the man who could make you so mesmerized like that?
"That man is Neteyam. My only fiancee, and I'm certain that he is the one who I will choose to be my mate," you say the words confidently, without any hesitation. With Eywa's help, you have made a decision about your love life, and nothing can stop you now. Even if it's the man you used to be madly in love with in the past.
But all that was important is the present time, and now that man looked very surprised. His ears perked down, his brows furrowed. His mouth parted in a sudden shock, leaving him speechless for a minute. When Va'ru finally speaks, he is only able to utter one word.
"What?" Va'ru responds to your words with a whisper, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Yes, Va'ru," you affirm your past words.
"No, this can't be true, Y/N! Tell me you still love me!" Va'ru is now seated, both hands supporting his head which is bowed limply, and his eyes are teary.
"Oh Va'ru, I'm sorry. I chose him. And I will go back to him," Your lips tremble as you say it, but you know you have to decide, and now your decision is unbreakable.
Your feet take a few steps back, until finally you left Va'ru and did not turn around to see him at all. But you can hear the sound of his screams and anguished cries echoing your name, sounding miserable amidst the sound of the waterfall.
You ride your ikran in a hurry and fly back to the Omaticaya forest. During the journey, your heart races as if it's about to burst. Your eyes look at the turquoise ring Va'ru gave you that is still on your finger. With one long breath, you remove the ring from your finger, and let it fall into the dense Omaticaya forest.
Your fingers then grasp Neteyam's engagement necklace in your waist pocket, and make sure it doesn't fall off. Where is Neteyam? You want to see him and confess your feelings to him. You want to see him.
When you finally reached your marui, Neteyam is not there. You check all the rooms in the marui but he's still not there. Not even all his belongings were there. Oh no. You go in and out between the nearby marui and ask everyone, but they see no sign of Neteyam at all. You are panicking, where is he? Is it too late to go back to him?
Your back pressed against the wall of your marui, trying to calm yourself down. Your breath comes in short gasps like a person who is short of breath. You close your eyes and adjust the rhythm of your breathing. Your lips mumble a short prayer to Eywa. Great Mother, please give me a last chance to meet him. When you open your eyes, your breathing is much calmer.
An atokirina flew slowly towards you, as if Eywa had answered your prayer. Your eyes are wet with tears of emotion, and you shout "Thank you Great Mother!" and follow the atokirina, as it flies somewhere. But the atokirina flies away so fast, like a broken kite. You quicken your pace, adrenaline filling your bloodstream. Your hair flutters as you run so fast. Sweat drips down your temples. Some branches scratched your feet and made small wounds on the soles of your feet, but you simply don’t care. What do physical wounds mean if you can't see Neteyam again for eternity?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the same moment when you saw Va'ru, Neteyam landed his ikran on a nearby branch and left his cape and visor on the ikran pouch. He then walks slowly into the Tree of Souls. There was no one there. It is so quiet and lonely indeed, as if sympathizing with what Neteyam was feeling at this moment. He kneels down and makes tsaheylu with one of the tendrils.
Neteyam prays silently. He let his mind be filled with all the events that had happened lately, from his courtship with you, you who never being happy with him, how Va'ru was found, his last dance with you, and of course the events of today, where he finally brought you back into Va'ru's arms. All of these events went back and forth in his head, and he knew that Eywa could see them too.
Eywa could also feel everything that Neteyam had been feeling. How Neteyam finally let you, the only woman he ever really loved, to leave him.
Oh Great Mother, I can't hold it anymore. Neteyam's inner voice churned with bitterness and sadness. He knew Kiri had warned him before, that it would not be easy to let you go. But it feels more devastating now.
Neteyam couldn't resist as tears brimmed in his eyes, and strained down his face. It's also feels very strange somehow. He already had pressure on his shoulder all this time. The pressure of being the oldest sibling and being the next Olo'eyktan. All this time, his parents sometimes scolded him, making him feel familiar with the pain. But now the pain is different. It's weighing him down inside, the feeling is like a thousand knives are stabbed into his chest at the same time.
Only love can hurt like this.
Neteyam sobbed, the sound of his crying sounded soft. He held the tendril tightly with both hands, his head bowed, his body trembling, and tears falling down his cheeks. Who would have thought that the mighty warrior could cry like this?
He lifts his chin, wipes his tears, and looks up at the sky, searching for a sign from Eywa. Atokirina, or anything. But there is only emptiness. There is only the silence of the night. Not even the wind blew. Neteyam looks down in defeat again.
Maybe, this is his destiny that he had to accept. Maybe, he did have everything the men of Omaticaya dreamed of, such as hunting talent, charisma, good looks, and as a successor to the throne. But one thing Neteyam definitely does not have, is a good fortune in love.
Neteyam releases his connection with tendril, and sits down in despair, leaning against one of the large trees. He closes his eyes and crosses his legs, trying meditate to find peace.
Suddenly, a sound makes his ears perk up. It sounds like someone walking. No, that person is definitely running. That person is running towards Neteyam. He opens his eyes and sees someone in the distance, but it's not clear who it is. Neteyam squinted his eyes and heard a voice shouting his name.
Neteyam gasped. Was his hearing deceiving him? It is like he is hearing a ghost. You shout his name again, and Neteyam widened his eyes in shock. It is definitely you. What are you doing here? You should be with Va'ru by now, right?
You stop your steps in front of Neteyam who is now slowly standing up. There is a distance of about one meter between you. You're still breathing heavily, a few strands of hair are peeking out on your forehead, and there are many scratches on your legs, but your face is adorned with a happy feeling. Your beautiful eyes sparkle and a wide smile was painted on your face.
"Hello, Neteyam," you greet him, and he tilts his head, still looking astonished.
"Y/N. What are you doing here?" Neteyam asks curiously, but he stays where he is, not moving an inch.
You want to answer him, but suddenly there seems to be an inner battle inside your mind. You want to tell Neteyam, about how stupid you've been, not realizing how deeply he loves you all this time. You want to tell Neteyam, about how the love grew slowly in your heart without you even realizing it. You want to tell Neteyam, that now the situation in the depth of your heart has slowly changed and it is he who now owns your heart.
But you remember all the ways you treated him. You were so harsh, you were so rude, you sometimes underestimated his help. Your smile slowly fades. Oh, you don't deserve him at all. Neteyam is far too good for a harsh woman like you. How could he ever accept you again, after all you've done for him?
Your tongue is now twisted, and your body begins to tremble, haunted by an overwhelming sense of guilt and nervousness. The man you love is right in front of you, just a few steps away, but you're so afraid to approach him. You're afraid he'll respond with scorn. You're afraid he'll just walk away. You're afraid he'll ignore you and think you're a crazy woman, who doesn't deserve to be his mate in the future. Your eyes have now lost their shine, and are filled with endless feelings of gloomy and despair.
Tumblr media
Suddenly, several atokirinas fly up from behind you. Not just one or two, but a lot of atokirina. You gasp, and watch as all the sacred seeds fly right past you and head towards Neteyam.
The atokirina fly slowly around Neteyam's body. One of the atokirina gently landed on top of his head, making the future Olo'eyktan gasp in amazement. Neteyam slowly raised both hands to the sides, with his palms facing upwards. The other Atokirina landed gently on his arms one by one, then filled his body, all the way down to his toes.
Your face is covered in amazement at the sight in front of you. Neteyam closes his eyes, and a peaceful smile slowly graced his lips. The ivory light radiating from Atokirina glows, making Neteyam's whole body radiate like the moon. Your eyes sparkle and your mouth opens in admiration. After a few seconds, the group of atokirina slowly fly away from Neteyam, then settle down among the tendrils. As Neteyam looked at them, a question arose in his mind. Why did Eywa give him another sign again, by hovering all the sacred seeds over his body?
On the other hand, for you it's all clear now. Great Mother gave you a sign, like giving you encouragement to pick up your destiny. The destiny to be with the man who you really love.
"Neteyam," you speak slowly, your lips still trembling but you're much calmer now. "All this time, I always believed that Va'ru was the only man in my life... I spent all my time loving him, and believing that he was the right man to be my mate. I thought I was sure, and already knew the true meaning of love,"
You stop to take a breath, and Neteyam stays still looking at you.
"But, sometimes the Great Mother has unique plans. She made me your fiancée, which I never wanted at all. I hated our courtship so much. I never thought of you as my mate. I even treated you badly. But you always patiently accepted me. You were always willing to help me, always took care of me and protected me when I was hurt,"
Then you clench your fists tightly, while then saying a sincere plea from the bottom of your heart to Neteyam.
"I want to say I'm sorry, Neteyam. For my terrible treatment towards you all this time,"
Neteyam's expression softened. He took a step closer to you, and he make a soft nod to express his apology, which make you smile. Then, you continue with your words.
"Neteyam, you've shown me how true love works. True love is always patient and kind. True love is never boastful or conceited, never rude or selfish. True love is when the happiness of another person is essential to your own..."
Now your eyes focus on Neteyam's face, looking at the beautifully patterned lines on his forehead and cheeks, making he look like a beautiful painting. His hair is neatly arranged beside his face, hanging beautifully like curtains framing a window. The corners of his lips lifted slightly, as if forming a small smile. You stare at his lips for a few seconds, and then your gaze moves up to meet his eyes.
And last but not least, his round amber eyes blink slowly when he sees you. They seem to sparkle under the purplish light of the tendrils. It seems like your turn now to drown in the beauty of his eyes, making you unconsciously stare at them for a few seconds. When you finally came to your senses, you gulp nervously and try to continue your confession to him.
"And you should know, if now I know what true love is, it is because of you, Neteyam. Now my heart has chosen you. But, I don't want to burden you. And so, I’ll always give you freedom,"
Your hand take the engagement necklace from your waist pocket, and holds it tightly. You stretch out your arm towards Neteyam as he watches your every move.
"Put this engagement necklace back around my neck if you're still willing to accept me, and ignore me if you think otherwise. Whatever choice you make, I’ll accept it as my destiny, Neteyam," you ended your words with a smile. But your little heart still felt fear of the worst. So you close your eyes and your lips form a tight line. You hear Neteyam's steps coming towards you, and his fingers take the necklace from your hand.
Neteyam looks at the necklace he was holding. He still remembers the time he made it, assisted by Kiri and Lo'ak to gather the best beads, and hoping you would like his gift. Without a doubt, this necklace is one of the symbols of his love for you.
Her gaze changes to see you, who still has your eyes closed. Without any hesitation, he approaches you, both hands on the right and left sides of your neck. You could feel how close he is to you when he tilts his head and his lips whisper softly to you, "Open your eyes, Y/N,"
You open your eyes, and your engagement necklace is now hanging perfectly around your neck. Your fingers gently touch the necklace as if in disbelief, and your eyes stare at Neteyam in surprise. But that astonished expression was quickly replaced by happy tears that slowly began to flood your eyes.
Neteyam whispers again, this time his voice is smooth like velvet.
"All this time, my feelings and affection towards you never changed, Y/N. I still, and always will, loving you,"
Hearing his sweet words make you can't hold back the happy tears anymore, they drip down your cheeks. You hug Neteyam in a fast motion, wrapping your arms around his neck, which surprised him but then he smiles as his arms wrapped around your waist gently.
The two of you hugged tightly, as if you didn't want to let go. Your tears fall on his chest, and now his hands are gently stroking your hair. Without realizing it, tears also welled up in Neteyam's eyes.
Neteyam then look at the Atokirina between the tendrils, with tears still on his face. "Thank you, Great Mother," he says softly, but he know the Great Mother can hear him. Great Mother had never been silent, but She had secretly woven a beautiful destiny for him. With you in his arms, Neteyam needs nothing more. You complete his life.
You lean your face closer to Neteyam's face, making both of your cheeks touch each other. Your hands are still tightly embracing his neck, and Neteyam's arms are now wrap around your waist. Then, Neteyam slowly kissed your face, starting from your jaw, your cheeks, your nose, and your forehead, as if expressing how deeply he secretly adored you all this time. Every kiss he gives makes your heart beat faster and your face feel warm, your eyes closed to enjoy the sensation he gives.
When he finally kisses your lips, you are ready. His kiss was so soft, his lips gently pressing against yours, making you feel like you were flying on cloud nine. Neteyam tilts his head to get the perfect angle, and you meld following his every move. His hands squeeze your waist gently, while your fingers find their place among his hair. The scent of Neteyam's sweet-smelling body penetrates your senses, making you feel intoxicated by his every touch. He felt the same, the fragrance of your scent making him smile happily between the kisses.
After the kiss is over, you and Neteyam smile, foreheads touching under the dim purplish light of the tendrils. All Atokirina flies around you both, seems like Eywa directly blessed this union. Your and Neteyam's fingers gently caress each other's shoulders.
Something then came to your mind. Something you had never done before, because this was a very important action, which shouldn’t be done with any random person. But now you are fully convinced. You’ve already found the right person.
Your hand then moved backward, picking up the end of your queue and bringing it before Neteyam. His eyebrows raised, and his lips said softly, "Are you sure you're going to do it now, Y/N? I won't do it if you're not ready. I'll wait for you,"
"Neteyam, I'm ready," you reply confidently, a grin etched on your lips. Your right hand held the end of your queue, while your left hand now lifts up and gently strokes Neteyam's cheek. Your touch makes Neteyam grins too, as he raises his hand to intertwine with your palm in his face.
Neteyam's queue is now in front of yours, and you both close your eyes slowly as you join them in tsaheylu. The sensation is so deep, it goes into all the nerves and recesses of your heart. Suddenly, you can feel what he feels. Suddenly, you and his breathing become one.
Now there is no longer you or Neteyam, you both are merged into one soul. Every movement you make blends in harmony. Minutes passes in passionate pleasure as each of you explores the other's body. Every kiss, touch, and moans blends together and creates an endless pleasure. You both feel the taste of making love for the first time. The feeling of pleasure penetrates deep into your heart, while you both mutter sentences in your united mind.
We are mated before Eywa, and it will last for the rest of our life.

“Are you gonna wear that?” Neteyam's brow furrowed, judging the top you wear.
“Yes. Why?” You look at your top, decorated with iridescent feathers. One of your favorites.
Neteyam frowns. “The feather looks dull. Also, the ropes are too thin. Change it, I’ll fix that top for you tomorrow,”
Your face filled with confusion. In your mind, the top is just fine, and nothing to worry about. But you finally turn around and change into another top, and you put your old top next to Neteyam’s stuff.
“How about now?” You stand in front of him.
“It’s better,” he looks at your new top and nods. He then wears his ikran visor. “I will go to patrol today with Dad. Also, Mom told me yesterday, that she will be happy if you help her sew some ornaments for the celebration,”
You nod. “Sure, I’ll help her,”
Neteyam smiles. “Okay, I’ll go now,”
You watch his departure with his ikran. Your relationship with him now is somehow a bit changed, now becoming more relaxed. You enter the marui again, and your eyes find the engagement necklace on your stuff. Luckily a woman found it near the marui and gave it to you. Now, your parents will never be angry.
You hold the necklace in your palm and observe it, as some new thoughts fill your mind. It’s a beautiful necklace actually, with a light blue pendant. You take a deep sigh and finally wear it around your neck.
~~~~~~~~~
Neteyam flies around the Hallelujah Mountains. His patrol with Jake is done, luckily there is nothing to worry about. He also already collected the feathers and some tree roots for fixing your top. He is about to fly back home when he thinks of something. So then he flies to Angel Falls, the waterfall that separates the forest and the ocean.
the atmosphere around the waterfall seems dangerous and the sound of the water is very thunderous, it seems that no one can afford to live here. Maybe Norm is lying about Va’ru? Until Neteyam saw someone appears between the trees just a few miles from the waterfall. He couldn’t see the person clearly, so he landed his ikran on the nearest branch and walks sneakily between the trees. He squints his eyes and tries to recognize the person. It's Va’ru. Finally, Va’ru is found.
When Neteyam sees Va'ru, he feels something strange in his stomach. He don't know how to react, should he be happy? The reason of his happines is you, but your source of happines is always Va'ru.
He grunts. It’s the green-eyed monster. He couldn’t hold it and he think of it all the way back home.
While Netayam secretly finds Va’ru, at the same moment you are sitting in Neytiri’s marui, helping her to sew some beads to the dancing costume. A celebration will be held in two days, to remember the clan's victory against the sky people in the war 20 years ago. Everybody is busy, and Neytiri asks for your help to sew some costumes.
The two of you are sitting face-to-face. You always adore Neytiri, she radiates a strong aura. After Mo'at's passing, Neytiri became Tsahik. She is also a warrior, the only Palulukan Makto in the clan. Not only that, but she is also a gorgeous woman. Minutes passed in silence with both of you sewing, until she finally spoke.
“So, how are you with Neteyam?” she asks, her hands going up and down with the needles, sewing some costumes.
“We are all right,” you faked a reassuring smile, trying to convince her.
Neytiri smiles. Then she said, “Neteyam never touched any woman before he touch you,”
Really? You furrow your eyebrow, as you know the facts that some girls here are completely head over heels for him, hoping to be his mate.
“But, I think there are plenty of girls here who like him?” You lifted your face, eyebrows raised in confusion.
“Of course. But he never interested in them,” Neytiri answers calmly.
Then she grins, as her eyes lighten remembering something from the past.
“I remember, when he was still 10 years old, he went back running, with a grin on his face. He hugged me and said, ‘Mother, I found the girl that I’m gonna marry!’ and when I asked who is that girl, he answered without any hesitation at all. ‘It’s Y/N, Mother!”
She giggles and continues the story.
“Of course, I thought his words were just some kid jokes. But look now! Seems like the Great Mother herself unites the two of you,”
Is it what Great Mother wants? Is my fate to be Neteyam’s mate, although I never love him? The question arises in your mind, as you listen to Neytiri's story, try to look excited.
“Y/N,” Suddenly, Neytiri stops sewing and she stares deeply into your eyes. “Take care of Neteyam, will you?”
“I will try my best,”
Neytiri smiles. “There is always only one woman in Neteyam’s life, and that woman is you,”
Then she pulls back, passing you some clothes and needles, and orders you to finish other costumes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is always only one woman in Neteyam’s life, and that woman is you.
Neytiri’s words play again and again in your mind like a never-ending speech. You begin to be restless. It’s just a simple word that she said yesterday, but why it still haunts you now?
Now your gaze fell on Neteyam's figure, who is fixing your top. You are standing behind him, facing his broad shoulders decorated with stripes. His long fingers move with ease, his talent in sewing is as good as his mother's. When he finally finishes, he stands up and looks a bit shocks when he realizes that you are already looking at him. Neteyam approaches you with your top in his palm.
“It’s finished. You can wear it to the celebration,” He says.
“Thank you, Neteyam,” You say your gratitude, and smile to him. His eyebrow is lifted by your action, but he smiles back at you.
The celebration starts at night. You and Neteyam get dressed and then enter the celebration together. Of course, you wear the engagement necklace. Neteyam wears a beautiful woven choker made of iridescent stones, and for the first time, you find him looking quite handsome. Your parents, Ka’ani and Saeyla find you both, then talk in some conversations until the music starts.
Ka’ani smiles. “You two must dance!” and he shoves both of you into the circle. The music starts to play. So, you and Neteyam dance together. It's awkward at the beginning, but it gets better then. Actually, you are quite surprised that Neteyam can dance well.
In between the music, you tease him. “I don’t know that you can dance,”
He chuckles. “I practice a lot,”
Practice? You remember Neytiri said that Neteyam never touched any girl before, so his answers confuse you. You ask him again. “With who?”
“Kiri,” he answers with a slight smile.
Unbeknownst to you, there is another fact in his word. Yes, he practiced with Kiri. But he only practices so he can dance properly with you.
However, knowing the fact that you love Va’ru, he doesn’t want to hope much. His courtship with you will end soon, and you are not his. As the dance goes on, he gets a bit sad inside. He already finds Va’ru hiding place. So that means that you and Va’ru will reunite soon. He knows that you always choose Va’ru instead of him, although he is the future Olo’eyktan. Even if he has all the titles in this world, he still can’t be with you.
All these sad thoughts made him feel dizzy. He needs a distraction. His eyes look at the corner, to find Lo’ak and his friends sitting in a circle, drinking and laughing. Maybe a drink can help.
When the dance stops, he says to you. “Just enjoy the party okay? I will go to get some drink,”
You nod and go to where food is placed, some fine teylu and fruits. Tuk and Kiri find you, and you sit beside her. Then you took some teylu and ate. You and Kiri are having some talks when suddenly, Lo’ak approaches you with a panicked face.
“Y/N, please help us. Neteyam is heavily drunk!”
Both Kiri and you gasped, and Kiri gestured to you to follow Lo’ak. So you follow him, and walk toward the circle on the corner, the place where Na’vi usually gets a drink. When you finally find Neteyam, you see him completely plastered. He is swaying, staggering, bumping into walls, and knocking stuff over. Damn, how many drinks did he have?
“Is he always this drunk?” you ask Lo’ak while you and he drag Neteyam’s body to a dark corner so people won’t see the future Olo'eyktan in this condition. Seems like Neteyam doesn't realize his surroundings, as he keeps talking and grins widely like a fool.
“Well, he sometimes drinks. But, I never see him drink this much before. Something must be bothering his mind,” Lo’ak shrugs with a pout on his face.
After that, you and Lo’ak carry Neteyam’s body together, with you on the right and Lo’ak on the left. Both Neteyam’s arms curled in your and Lo’ak shoulder. The three of you left the celebration through a back lane and walk back to your marui.
Lo'ak and you then put Neteyam in a sitting position inside the marui, leaning against the wall. He still mumbles and his head swings around crazily.
Lo’ak then looks at you, with his hand stretching his neck. “Um, Y/N, I’m sorry, but I still want to go to the party,” he grins innocently.
“It’s okay. Thank you Lo’ak. You may leave, I’ll take care of him,” You smile at Lo’ak, then observe Neteyam’s conditions.
“You’re welcome, Y/N. Yeah, he may be drunk, but sometimes, drunken words are sober thoughts, right?”
Your ears perk up hearing Lo’ak words and when you turn your head to question him, Lo’ak was already gone. Neteyam suddenly stands up and mumbles again, even more, crazier than before. You approach him, standing face-to-face.
Neteyam’s eyes found you. “You’re soo pretty,” he mumbles, and approaches you closer, his hand touching your hair. You can smell the intoxicating scent from his mouth. “Pretty, pretty girl!” Neteyam lifts his arms and walks in a circle, making some moves like dancing. He stops suddenly, in front of you again.
“Hey pretty girl, can I say something?”
“What?”
“Nothing,” he grins, then explodes into a giddy laugh.
“Hey pretty girl, guess what? I found your lover yes-teerr-daaayy,” Neteyam babbles again.
“What!?” you ask him again with a raised voice, but he only giggles.
“Pretty girl have a l-oo-verrr, and that’s not m-ee!”
“Where did you find him?” you grip his shoulder and try to talk to him, but it's no use. He is still drunk, even now his necklace is untied accidentally, caused by his crazy moves.
Shit. How can you talk to a drunk person? You take his necklace from his neck and save it on the table. Then you sigh and stand in front of him, making sure he doesn't break stuff around him.
“I know, he can make pretty girl ha-p-pyy! No, he surely will make her happy, the happiee-e-stt girl in the wo-o-rld! Obviously more than me-e!”
His words make your eyebrow furrow. What is he talking about?
“I know, when Va’ru sees pretty girl again he will shout her na-m-ee,” Neteyam made a funnel in front of his mouth with his fingers and began shouting your name. “Y/N! Then pretty girl will run to him. Run-run! Finally, pretty girl runs back to her lo-vee-rr!”
Neteyam laughs out loud. “Then I would watch it all!" But now his smile disappears, and his eyes become empty. "The pretty girl taught me how to break my he-aart,”
You stunned. Are these all the things he’s been hiding all this time? You know his words can be just some bullshit, but you can’t resist as a strange feeling suddenly crawls inside your chest. You drag his body closer to the hammock.
Seems like all of Neteyam’s energy is now drowning, as his eyes become heavy. He suddenly collapses on the hammock. You sit beside him, and his fingers touch your cheek weakly.
“Hey pretty girl, can I say something?”
"What?" You whisper.
“Nothing,” His face engrave with a stupid smile. Then he closes his eyes, and snores. Finally, he is asleep.
You lie next to Neteyam in the same hammock. His braids are lying in a mess around his head, some even covering his face. You tuck all his braids behind his ear, so now you can see his face clearly. Neteyam’s eyes clenched shut and his ivory patterns glow in the dark. Your fingers linger on his forehead, tracing all his stripes, then down to his cheek and jaw.
Your eyes blink slowly, and your mind travels back to some events of the past.
How he saves you and brings your body back into the marui.
How he instantly flies into the forest to collect the yalna bark for you.
How he notices that your top is looking dull, and fixes it on the next day.
How he is still willing to help you, even after you yelled at him.
Your eyes get teary as you nuzzle into his chest and close your eyes, feeling his heartbeat. Without your knowledge, you fall asleep in that position.
Although he says nothing, seems like now you see everything.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning, you wake up and find an empty space next to you. You squint and walk forward. Turns out, Neteyam is standing outside, leaning his figure on the marui walls.
This morning is surely a surprise to him, to find himself waking up hugging your body. Shit, what did he do last night? The last moment he remembers is sitting beside Lo’ak and drinking. But after that, it’s just a bizarre memory. How did he suddenly sleep with your arms curled in his body? Although he can’t deny that he feels warm when you do it. Then he turns his face when he hears your step. You appear from inside the marui.
“Good morning, Y/N,” He greets you.
 You reply to him. “Morning, Neteyam,”
Neteyam sighs, his face filled with guilt and he shook his head. “Look, I made a mistake last night. I get drunk, and I don’t know exactly what words I was saying. You must know, it’s all just rubbish,”
"It's alright. You didn't say anything," You smile, trying to ensure him. He tilts his head and seems surprised by your reaction. Other things pop into his mind, a thing that he should have told you before.
"Also, I have to tell you something,” Neteyam speaks again. “I found Va’ru hiding spot. You are right, it's not far from Angel Falls.”
You nod but say no word. This response somehow makes Neteyam confused, so he asks you again. “So, when are you gonna meet him?”
“How about tomorrow?” You offer an option.
“Okay. Tomorrow I’ll take you there,”
My True Love (part 1) - Illusion
love isn’t selfish, and love isn't about self-happiness, but about giving happiness, to the people you really love.
Tumblr media
pairing : triangle love between Neteyam, f! Omaticaya reader, and Va'ru (my OC)
summary: Believing in the true meaning of love, Neteyam decides to help his fiancée find her lost lover, and try to ignore the pain he might feel soon.
notes : This fic takes place 20 years after Avatar 1 & events in ATWOW don't exist + reader is Kaa’ni & Saeyla's daughter (they r hunter trainees under Tsutey and go with Jake in his Iknimaya on Avatar 1)
wc : 2,8k
contains : forbidden love + unrequited love + slow burn trope + angst and fluff + Neteyam is a simp but the reader is oblivious xx
Love is a powerful feeling, that comes in many forms. Love is what both of your parents, Ka’ani and Saeyla feel when they hold your tiny body for the first time. Love can take form in a child, who came into life as a blessing, after the long war with the sky people. Neteyam was the first child born after the war, the first child from Olo’eyktan Jake and Neytiri. And you were born several months after, almost the same age as Kiri.
You grow up to be a beautiful girl. Your braids are decorated with colorful beads, your amber doe-eyes are expressive, your lips are plump, and you wear a beautiful braided top. Both of your parents were hunter trainees under Tsu’tey, and they still carry his legacy after his death. Ka’ani, your father, becomes the clan’s best warrior. Meanwhile, Saeyla, your mother, is one of Neytiri's closest friends. This made both you and Sully's family become closer.
Although you are the only child, you never feel alone. This is because your childhood was spent with all the Sully siblings and you became close with them. Lo’ak and you get along very well as you both share the same traits. Kiri and Tuk love to hang out with you. Jake is like your second father. After Mo'at's death, now Neytiri becomes Tsahik and teaches you healing stuff. You are her best student, making you a fine candidate for Tsakarem, the next Tsahik.
Last but not least, you also have a good friendship with Neteyam. The oldest Sully son spends his hunting lesson with you, and you both have the same skill in archery. He is the big brother you never have. Unbeknownst to you, Neteyam had a crush on you since he was still a child. He secretly adore how beautiful you looked, the way your eyes spark and the way you smile somehow mesmerized him.
You also feel comfortable around him, you both teased each other a lot during childhood. As time goes by, Neteyam’s feelings for you got deeper, and you also start to kinda like him a bit. He is a sweet boy, always protecting you when you both got a mission or simply memorized the things that you like.
But then, Va’ru came. He is one of your father's students. His parents were both killed during the war. To you, he always looks handsome with a toned body and a different hairstyle from others, as he prefers to tie his braids, showing his nice jawline. Va’ru has a unique interest in humans, he visits them often and became close to Norm and Max. Also, Va’ru is a cheerful boy, he always makes you laugh with all his jokes. He always boosts your mood by telling silly stories whenever you feel down.
You always want Va’ru near you. You both became very close, and you start to like him. Your feelings grow bigger each time you meet Va’ru, clearly vanishing the tiny feelings you have for Neteyam before. As Neteyam grow up, he became busy and stern. With all his Olo’eyktan training from his father, he has no time again with you. On the other hand, Va’ru is always there for you. As time goes by, he also feels something for you.
That feeling is love. You are sure of that. Va’ru and you love each other, and there is no other man you could dream of to be your mate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That night, your parents call you. You approach them in the marui. Your father begins to speak and his words made you shocks.
“From now, you are promised to Neteyam,” Ka’ani states.
“What?” you gasp, your eyes bulging in shock.
“It is decided. You already reach adulthood, and the union between the future Olo’eyktan and future Tsahik is a nice pairing for this clan,” Now Saeyla continues Ka’ani’s words.
“No. This can’t be happening!” you shouted, and then step back, running away from your parents.
You reached a branch and climb it, sitting on top of it, and looked up to the sky with tears streaming down your face. Your ears twitch when you hear something behind you, it’s Va’ru. Seeing your tears, he got confused. He sits beside you, with his gaze that fell on your face. His hands touch your cheek, bringing you to see his face.
“Y/N, why are you crying?” he asks gently.
“My parents. They announced that I’m promised to Neteyam,” you sobbed.
Va’ru looks stunned, as he tries to process your words. He releases his hands from your cheeks. He looks perplexed.
“Well, do you love him?” he finally asks, breaking the silence.
You look at Va’ru. Your doe-eyes track every feature on his face, from his long hair, his soft gold eyes, his striped cheeks, and his fine lips. Not just his gorgeous feature, but also his personality, how he always know what you need. You are sure, that this man is the only one you could love.
“I only love you,” you whisper, finally confessing to him.
Va’ru smiles in happiness, his eyes glowing with a loving look. “I love you, too,”
“Actually, tonight I want to give you this,” his hand stretches out to you, with something inside his palm. It’s a ring, with a turquoise stone. It is so beautiful, and he put that ring on your finger. Your eyes teared up, touched by his gift. Then you lift your hand, adoring the way that ring looks good in between your dark blue fingers.
“Norm told me that for humans, a ring is a sign of engagement. When a woman wears a ring, it means that she already has a partner. Although you are promised to Neteyam, it won’t change my feelings for you. Actually, no one will ever change how I feel," he stops, and you can see that he is nervous. His lips tremble when he says his next words.
"I see you, Y/N,” he whispers.
“I see you, Va’ru,” you instantly reply to him, and your lips curl in a smile.
Va’ru smiles happily too, he leans his face closer to you, then you both kiss for the first time. It feels so nice and warm, he is so gentle with you. After that, your forehead touches him, and his fingers rub your cheek, wiping away all your tears.
“Va'ru. We must mate now,” you whisper.
“Are you sure?” he asks, raising his eyebrow.
“This is the only way, to save me from this stupid arranged courtship,” your sentence ensure him.
After that, you bring your queue to him and he did the same. You know that this is a crazy move, once a tsaheylu is made between two Navi then it will last for a lifetime. But you love him, and love makes us crazy, right? Va’ru intertwined his fingers with you, and you close your eyes, moving your queue closer to his.
“STOP IT!”
A loud scream shakes both of you. It is your parents. They approached you both in a rapid move, and you never saw your father in this state. Clearly, he is furious, he hissed angrily at Va’ru and his eyes looked menacing.
Saeyla took you, and half dragged you from Va’ru. You shout and try to escape, but your mom holds you tight. Meanwhile, Ka’ani shouted at Va’ru with rage.
“You think you can be my daughter’s mate? No. I will never allow that. She is promised to another man!”
Your father never trusts Va’ru to be your mate. The main reason is, he sees that Va’ru is too close to the humans, and he doesn’t want you to follow the same steps. Ka’ani hates humans, in his eyes, they are always the demons who destroy everything.
Va’ru’s head hung low, as silence traps him.
“Promise to me, that you will never come to Y/N again,” Ka’ani’s voice is deep.
However, Va’ru always respects Ka’ani since he is his teacher. Ka’ani also has an important position in the clan as one of the closest companions to Olo’eyktan. So, Va’ru couldn’t say no to him.
“I promise, Sir,”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From that day, you never see Va’ru again. You visit his marui, but it is empty. You rush to the lab and ask every human there including Norm and Max, but find nothing. You asked his friends, but they didn't see him again. It’s like Va’ru now completely vanished from you.
On the other hand, your courtship with Neteyam is announced to the whole clan, and you live in a new marui with him now. Neteyam tied a beautiful necklace with a light blue pendant that he made himself to your neck, a symbol of you being his mate. He feels so happy, as he never loses his feelings towards you. You are the only woman that he has loved since he was still a child. His eyes glisten whenever he sees you, but on the contrary, your eyes always look blank when you see him.
Neteyam soon realized something is wrong, as you never looked happy. You looked different, so distant, and this is not Y/N that he knows. The first night after the courtship is announced, he finds that you are sitting in front of the marui with your chin lifted up, looking at the dark sky. Neteyam sits beside you, his hand tries to touch yours, but you dodge him. He sighs.
“What is wrong, Y/N? You seem not happy,”
You said no words, ignoring him.
“Y/N, we will be a lifetime partner. And I want to be no lies between us. Please tell me, what is bothering your mind?”
You are still silent. Then you stand up, go back and enter the marui, lie on top of the hammock, and close your eyes, sleeping.
Neteyam sighs. He soon lay beside you in the same hammock, but every time he tries to touch you, you always avoid him. He grunts and pulls back, making a gap between his body and yours. He finally sleeps with a pouting face.
In the next few days, you always keep your distance from Neteyam. Although you and he are a couple now, you never touch him in a romantic way or make a tsaheylu with him. Even you insist to sleep in a different hammock with him.
You only wear the engagement necklace from him when you are outside the marui, as you are afraid that your father will be angry if he sees you without the necklace. But inside your marui, you never wear it.
Your strange behavior got Neteyam confused. He couldn’t stay focused, and sometimes he got lost during the Olo’eyktan training, causing Jake to scold him. Neteyam can’t resist it anymore, he needs to know why you were acting like this all the time.
That night, finally he confronted you, trapping your figure between his tall body and the wall. His hand is on your shoulders, and he looks straight at you with a menacing gaze.
“Please tell me, Y/N, what is wrong with you?”
You remain silent. Neteyam grip on your shoulder became tightened. He looks at your bare neck without the engagement necklace that he gave you. His ears become flat and his brow furrowed in anger as he asks the next question.
“Are you not happy with this courtship? Do you love someone else?”
His question makes your ears perk up. You look down at your hand, seeing the turquoise ring that is always there, never leaving your finger. Like the feeling for Va’ru is always there inside your heart. You lift your hand, making Neteyam see the ring. You look at the ring before shifting your gaze and facing Neteyam.
“Yes. And he is Va’ru,” you answer him.
Your words feel like a dagger to Neteyam. He growls angrily at you, dragging your body with his tight grip on your shoulders. You squint against him, trying to run away, but he is too strong. Tears brim in your eyes as you feel his nails dig deeper into your shoulder, leaving some scratches. You beg him to let you go, but he didn't listen. Neteyam brings you out of the marui, and he calls his ikran. He made you sit on his ikran, with one arm holding your waist to keep you there.
"I will send you back to your parents,” his voice is menacing.
You shook your head frantically, showing your rejection. Neteyam is about to bond with his ikran when his eyes blink slowly, finally realizing your condition. There are some scratches on your shoulders, your whole body is trembling, tears stream down your face, and you keep sobbing.
He sighs and closes his eyes, his hands scratching the back of his head. Since when he became a harsh man? Finally, he takes you back to the marui. He says sorry to you. After that, he puts a healing paste on your shoulder, brings you water to drink, and waits until you are no longer crying.
“Now, tell me everything. And do not lie to me,” he looks straight into your eyes, his gaze demanding.
You gulped, but then you tell him everything. Starting from the love that you and Va’ru had for each other, until how your father end it.
Minutes passed in silence after you spoke, and your heart hammering in your chest. You lowered your head, too frightened to ask him. Neteyam then spoke again, this time his voice sounds raspy.
“Do you want to end this courtship?”
You close your eyes and take a deep breath. “Yes..” you answer, but you continue your sentence. “.. but I don’t want to face my parent's anger again,”
Neteyam doesn’t say a word. There is a crease on his forehead as if something is entering his mind. He opens his mouth again, asking you.
“Do you know where Va’ru is now?”
“I don’t know. I visited his marui, asking humans and all his friends, but still didn't find him,” you shrug.
“But he must be still in this forest. We can search for him, and I’ll help you,” he states, making you shocked and you step closer facing him with your brows furrowed.
“What? Are you serious?”
Neteyam's gaze locked on your face, studying every expression. He finally answers your question, “Yes, Y/N,”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And so, you and Neteyam ride ikran and spend some days searching for Va’ru. During this time, you get a deja vu, remembering your past with him. Neteyam is the first one who cheers loudly when you succeed at your Iknimaya. After taming your ikran, he invited you to fly with him. You and Neteyam were so excited at that time, flew as far as you both can and went back late. Which of course, caused Jake and Ka’ani to scold the two of you.
However, when Va’ru succeeded in the same ritual, it's you who cheers for him. He then took you to the spot in the forest where iridescent flowers live. You love flowers, and Va’ru always made you a flower bouquet, another thing that he learns from humans. And you see the same spot below you, as flowers bloom in various colors.
You ask Neteyam to stop and say that you want to pick some flowers. He nods, and then he watches you gather flowers happily as the sparkle never leaves your doe-eyes.
"You seem to like flowers," he asks with a curious tone, a slight smile curled on his face.
"Of course. Va’ru always brings me some," you answer, then turn around to gather yellow flowers behind you.
Neteyam's smile disappears. How can he forget? Va’ru is the man that you love. He slightly frowns and steps back to his ikran, deciding to wait for you there. You approach him several minutes later with the flowers already stored in the pouch hanging to your ikran body.
The two of you start the mission again, as the thought of Va’ru fills your mind. Where is he now? Is he safe? You are so lost in your thoughts, as you don’t realize that there is a large floating sharp rock in front of you. Your ikran made panic sounds to warn you, but you are too late. Your ikran hit the rock, making your tsaheylu detached and your body fell to the ground.
A scream came out your mouth, and your hands move panicky in the air trying to hold on to something but there is no object near you. Your head hit something and you can feel blood dripping on your forehead. Just when you think you will hit the ground, a hand catches your body. Neteyam. Clearly, he is panicking too, as he put your body in front of him on his ikran. It’s all you can remember before you become unconscious.
Later, you open your eyes, realizing that you are now laying in your marui. You see two figures outside and you hear Neteyam asking someone. “Kiri, is she okay?”
“She needs more yalna bark, Neteyam,” Kiri answers, and she looks in her pouch. “But I ran out of it,”
“It’s okay, I'll get it,” he answers.
“Neteyam,” you call him but your voice sounds weak. His face lightens when he hears your voice, and he approaches you instantly, sitting on your right side.
“Y/N, finally you’re awake! Thank you, Great Mother,” he caresses your face.
Kiri enters the marui and she brings a potion in her hand. She knelt on your left side, helping you to sit. After that, she made you drink the potion.
"This potion will only work for several hours. For tonight, she needs more yalna bark to make the healing process faster, Neteyam," Kiri says to his brother.
Neteyam nods. He looks at his sister. "Please take care of Y/N," Then his gaze shifted to you. "Y/N, I won't be long. You must rest now, okay?"
You nod weakly. Neteyam steps outside the marui and in a second you hear his ikran roar, flying to the forest. Kiri cleans the wound on your forehead. Several minutes later, Neteyam enters the marui with a big pouch in his hand, fully filled with yalna bark. He gives it to Kiri, and she starts to make the paste. The effects of the potion you drink before make your eyes feel heavy, as you lie down again and sleep.
When Kiri finishes making the paste, she gives it to Neteyam. However, her eyebrow lifted in curiosity.
"Now, you have to tell me. Why didn't you call Mom instead? She is Tsahik. And how did she get injured?"
Before answering, Neteyam looks at you, to check that you are already asleep. Then he whispers to his sister. "Come tonight at the Tree of Souls, and bring Lo'ak. I have something to tell,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Bro, what are you thinking?" Lo'ak says in disbelief.
"He's right. Have you lost your mind?" Kiri chimes in.
Neteyam can only sit still in silence. Tonight, he visits the Tree of Souls to find some peaceful time in the sacred place and asks the Great Mother for her guidance regarding his situation. After he finishes his prayer, both of his siblings visit him. Kiri and Lo’ak are the people that Neteyam trusts, the safe place for sharing his stories. So, he tells them about the decision he had made about Y/N. Which clearly, surprised both Kiri and Lo’ak.
“So you're telling me that your fiance loves another man, and you are helping her to get back to her lover? And after that, she will make tsaheylu with Va’ru, making you both finally end the courtship?” Kiri asks again in disbelief.
“Yes,” Neteyam nods.
“But bro, you are the future Olo’eyktan! What will people say?” Lo’ak's eyes filled with confusion.
“Even the Olo’eyktan himself must face reality, Lo’ak,” Neteyam answers him calmly.
“How about let’s give her some time? Maybe she will love you soon,” Lo’ak tries to give another solution.
Neteyam shook his head. “No, Lo’ak. She doesn’t love me. She’s not mine,” He sighs deeply. His eyes look misty when he speaks again.
“I may have her body close to me, but not her soul. She loves Va’ru, not me. I can’t let her suffer for the rest of her life, by mating with someone that she doesn’t love,”
Lo’ak couldn’t respond as his brother’s words made him totally speechless. So, it’s Kiri who confronts Neteyam again.
“But what about you, Neteyam? You will hand over the only woman that you love for your entire life to another man. What about your feelings?”
“I believe that love isn’t selfish. Love isn’t about self-happiness, but about giving happiness to the people you really love. I know at that time I will suffer, but I'm sure seeing her smile will erase all my sadness,” Neteyam stated, his voice slightly trembling but he said it without no hesitation.
However, Kiri is still in disbelief. “No, Neteyam. You’re being a foolish person for this. Sorry, I won’t support you this time,” She stands up about to leave when something unusual happens.
An Atokirina flew in between the mauve tendrils, reaching the three of them. Usually, Atokirina will reach Kiri, as she has special connections to Eywa. But this time, the Great Mother picks another person as Atokirina landed gently on the top of Neteyam’s head. It stays there for a minute, then flies again. Neteyam feels a calm feeling entering his body when Atokirina lands on him. It’s like the Great Mother herself reassuring him, supporting his decision.
This event made Kiri shocked, as her mouth slightly parted in awe. She finally says to Neteyam with a smile.
“Eywa gave you a sign, Neteyam. She supports you,”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Time flies as you spend your courtship with Neteyam, but it feels like an illusion to you. He is maybe the man that you see every day, but all you can truly see is Va’ru’s face. You visit Norm again at the lab, and this time you become more demanding, and Norm finally gives up. He tells you that Va’ru now lives somewhere near Angel Falls, a tall waterfall that separates the forest and the sea. It actually takes an hour to get there.
When you get back from Norm, it was raining and an eclipse is happening. You fly back into your marui in a rush. Rains make your body wet, all from head to toe, and water drops every time your body moves. You enter the marui and pick some stuff, when you hear an ikran roar behind you. It's Neteyam. He sees what you do, and walks towards you immediately with crease in his forehead and his braids swinging uncontrollably.
“Where are you going, Y/N?” Neteyam confronts you.
“Va’ru. Norm says he now lives somewhere near Angel Falls. I have to go there,” You pick your bow from inside the marui, and put in on your belongings.
“You can’t go now. It’s raining and eclipse outside,” he states, crossing his arms and standing between you and your ikran, blocking your way. Rain pours between the two of you.
“And who are you to forbid me?” you raised your eyebrow.
“Do not forget. You are still my fiance,” Neteyam says in a deep tune, his lips pinched together in a hard line. His gaze shifted to your neck. “Where is your engagement necklace?”
Your hands touch your neck, realizing that the necklace is no longer there. You shook your head. “I don’t know. I wear it when I visit the lab, but then it must fall somewhere,”
“Are you crazy? Your parents will be angry if they see you without the necklace,” Neteyam’s voice is thick with anger and now his ears flattened back against his head.
“I know,” you close your eyes, trying not to think about the situation he said. Then you open your eyes and continue your words. ”But you are not the man I love. Let me choose my own mate,” then you step aside, avoiding his body.
Neteyam grips your elbow instantly, preventing you from going.
"Let me go,” you grunt, trying to free your elbow from his hands.
“Y/N, listen to me. You can go to him whenever you want, but please don’t go now. It’s eclipse and raining, and you can get sick. I just trying to help you,” his voice softened as he now pleads and his grip tightened.
“I DON’T NEED YOUR HELP!" you yell at Neteyam. Your words make his eyes widen in shock, and he finally releases his hands.
“Fine,” he growls and went back to the marui.
After that, the sun slowly rises, making the rains and eclipse stop. You walk towards your ikran, making sure all the stuff is tied properly and made the tsaheylu. You are about to ride your ikran when you see something. Shit. You see both Jake and Ka’ani’s ikran flying toward your marui.
What should you do now? They clearly can't see you without the necklace. You walk back and forth in panic, trying to search for the necklace on the ground when suddenly, a crazy idea enters your mind. You enter the marui and untie the flap but only half of it, so the marui is half-closed now. Then you see Neteyam, as he is already inside.
“Why? You are not going to your lover?” he mocks you.
“Both of our parents are coming here. They must not see me without the necklace,” you say, then you lower your head.
You gulp before speaking again. “Neteyam, I need your help,”
“Oh,” Neteyam rolled his eyes. “I remember you say you don’t need my help before,” He shrugs, and walk away, completely ignoring you.
You frown, approach him quickly and grip his wrist to stop him. Then, you take a step closer to Neteyam, the closest you've ever been. He is raising his eyebrow, confused by your actions.
“Please, help me,” you beg him. Your doe-eyes softened when you look at him, like a puppy's eyes. “They will be furious if they don't see the necklace,”
Neteyam clenches his jaw, then he exhales loudly. Shit. How can he say no to those eyes? After all this time, you are still his weakness. “Okay. What is your plan?”
He waiting for you to answer, but all of a sudden you hug him, your hands curling around his neck.
"Just hug me, so they won't see my bare neck. Pretend that we are in love," you whisper to him.
Neteyam froze. How can he pretend, while actually, he is already in love with you? And now he can feel your heartbeat as your chest pressed against his. Your body seems so small yet so perfect between his arms. Your sweet scent filled his nose. This is surely the closest skin-on-skin contact he had with you in the past several months, as you never touch him and he never insists on it.
"Neteyam. Are they coming?" You whisper again, confused by his freezing reaction.
Neteyam blinks. He sees Jake, Neytiri, Ka’ani, and Saeyla walking toward the marui. "Yes," he answers shortly. Actually, he wants to say another word, but your sweet musk scent intoxicates him. He knows that you always smell good, but he never thought that holding you close will make him go crazy inside.
He also feels your smooth skin, like velvet. There are still some water droplets on your body, making your skin feel wet. He finally lifts his arms, caressing your back slowly, tracing your spine. His right hand hugs your shoulder gently. While the other hand brushed all the hair from your neck. Then he kisses your neck softly, making you shiver.
"Neteyam, Y/N! Sorry for a sudden visit, but we–" Jake enters the marui with an excited tone, but his words stop when he sees you and Neteyam embrace each other tightly, with wet bodies and him kissing your neck passionately. Your hands are tucked between his braids. Desire surely burns between Neteyam and you, making the two of you don't realize the surroundings around.
"Oops," Jake shrugs. "Looks like we came in the wrong time,"
"They are so lost in each other," Saeyla giggles.
"Even they forget to close the marui properly," Jake rolls his eyes. He then unties the next flap so then the marui is fully covered now.
"Well, he is definitely your son, Ma Jake," Neytiri winks.
Ka’ani laughs. "Let's give them some private time then,"
The four of them finally go back to the ikran and leave. But you and Neteyam are still hugging, and all the kisses he gives you are just so good. Even a soft moan accidentally slipped out of your mouth. His lips move from your neck up to your cheeks, as he kisses there also, making your face warm. When it finally stops, both of you pull back, breath panting.
"Thank you for saving me," you say, pausing for a second then you speak again, but now with regrets in your voice. Now you realize how gentle is he, still willing to help you although your words might hurt him before. "And I'm sorry that I yelled at you before,"
His hand tucks a strand behind your ear before he smiles and answers you. "It's alright.  And you're welcome, Y/N,”
After that moment, everything slowly changes, without you even realizing it.

My True Love (part 1) - Illusion
love isn’t selfish, and love isn't about self-happiness, but about giving happiness, to the people you really love.
Tumblr media
pairing : triangle love between Neteyam, f! Omaticaya reader, and Va'ru (my OC)
summary: Believing in the true meaning of love, Neteyam decides to help his fiancée find her lost lover, and try to ignore the pain he might feel soon.
notes : This fic takes place 20 years after Avatar 1 & events in ATWOW don't exist + reader is Kaa’ni & Saeyla's daughter (they r hunter trainees under Tsutey and go with Jake in his Iknimaya on Avatar 1)
wc : 2,8k
contains : forbidden love + unrequited love + slow burn trope + angst and fluff + Neteyam is a simp but the reader is oblivious xx
Love is a powerful feeling, that comes in many forms. Love is what both of your parents, Ka’ani and Saeyla feel when they hold your tiny body for the first time. Love can take form in a child, who came into life as a blessing, after the long war with the sky people. Neteyam was the first child born after the war, the first child from Olo’eyktan Jake and Neytiri. And you were born several months after, almost the same age as Kiri.
You grow up to be a beautiful girl. Your braids are decorated with colorful beads, your amber doe-eyes are expressive, your lips are plump, and you wear a beautiful braided top. Both of your parents were hunter trainees under Tsu’tey, and they still carry his legacy after his death. Ka’ani, your father, becomes the clan’s best warrior. Meanwhile, Saeyla, your mother, is one of Neytiri's closest friends. This made both you and Sully's family become closer.
Although you are the only child, you never feel alone. This is because your childhood was spent with all the Sully siblings and you became close with them. Lo’ak and you get along very well as you both share the same traits. Kiri and Tuk love to hang out with you. Jake is like your second father. After Mo'at's death, now Neytiri becomes Tsahik and teaches you healing stuff. You are her best student, making you a fine candidate for Tsakarem, the next Tsahik.
Last but not least, you also have a good friendship with Neteyam. The oldest Sully son spends his hunting lesson with you, and you both have the same skill in archery. He is the big brother you never have. Unbeknownst to you, Neteyam had a crush on you since he was still a child. He secretly adore how beautiful you looked, the way your eyes spark and the way you smile somehow mesmerized him.
You also feel comfortable around him, you both teased each other a lot during childhood. As time goes by, Neteyam’s feelings for you got deeper, and you also start to kinda like him a bit. He is a sweet boy, always protecting you when you both got a mission or simply memorized the things that you like.
But then, Va’ru came. He is one of your father's students. His parents were both killed during the war. To you, he always looks handsome with a toned body and a different hairstyle from others, as he prefers to tie his braids, showing his nice jawline. Va’ru has a unique interest in humans, he visits them often and became close to Norm and Max. Also, Va’ru is a cheerful boy, he always makes you laugh with all his jokes. He always boosts your mood by telling silly stories whenever you feel down.
You always want Va’ru near you. You both became very close, and you start to like him. Your feelings grow bigger each time you meet Va’ru, clearly vanishing the tiny feelings you have for Neteyam before. As Neteyam grow up, he became busy and stern. With all his Olo’eyktan training from his father, he has no time again with you. On the other hand, Va’ru is always there for you. As time goes by, he also feels something for you.
That feeling is love. You are sure of that. Va’ru and you love each other, and there is no other man you could dream of to be your mate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That night, your parents call you. You approach them in the marui. Your father begins to speak and his words made you shocks.
“From now, you are promised to Neteyam,” Ka’ani states.
“What?” you gasp, your eyes bulging in shock.
“It is decided. You already reach adulthood, and the union between the future Olo’eyktan and future Tsahik is a nice pairing for this clan,” Now Saeyla continues Ka’ani’s words.
“No. This can’t be happening!” you shouted, and then step back, running away from your parents.
You reached a branch and climb it, sitting on top of it, and looked up to the sky with tears streaming down your face. Your ears twitch when you hear something behind you, it’s Va’ru. Seeing your tears, he got confused. He sits beside you, with his gaze that fell on your face. His hands touch your cheek, bringing you to see his face.
“Y/N, why are you crying?” he asks gently.
“My parents. They announced that I’m promised to Neteyam,” you sobbed.
Va’ru looks stunned, as he tries to process your words. He releases his hands from your cheeks. He looks perplexed.
“Well, do you love him?” he finally asks, breaking the silence.
You look at Va’ru. Your doe-eyes track every feature on his face, from his long hair, his soft gold eyes, his striped cheeks, and his fine lips. Not just his gorgeous feature, but also his personality, how he always know what you need. You are sure, that this man is the only one you could love.
“I only love you,” you whisper, finally confessing to him.
Va’ru smiles in happiness, his eyes glowing with a loving look. “I love you, too,”
“Actually, tonight I want to give you this,” his hand stretches out to you, with something inside his palm. It’s a ring, with a turquoise stone. It is so beautiful, and he put that ring on your finger. Your eyes teared up, touched by his gift. Then you lift your hand, adoring the way that ring looks good in between your dark blue fingers.
“Norm told me that for humans, a ring is a sign of engagement. When a woman wears a ring, it means that she already has a partner. Although you are promised to Neteyam, it won’t change my feelings for you. Actually, no one will ever change how I feel," he stops, and you can see that he is nervous. His lips tremble when he says his next words.
"I see you, Y/N,” he whispers.
“I see you, Va’ru,” you instantly reply to him, and your lips curl in a smile.
Va’ru smiles happily too, he leans his face closer to you, then you both kiss for the first time. It feels so nice and warm, he is so gentle with you. After that, your forehead touches him, and his fingers rub your cheek, wiping away all your tears.
“Va'ru. We must mate now,” you whisper.
“Are you sure?” he asks, raising his eyebrow.
“This is the only way, to save me from this stupid arranged courtship,” your sentence ensure him.
After that, you bring your queue to him and he did the same. You know that this is a crazy move, once a tsaheylu is made between two Navi then it will last for a lifetime. But you love him, and love makes us crazy, right? Va’ru intertwined his fingers with you, and you close your eyes, moving your queue closer to his.
“STOP IT!”
A loud scream shakes both of you. It is your parents. They approached you both in a rapid move, and you never saw your father in this state. Clearly, he is furious, he hissed angrily at Va’ru and his eyes looked menacing.
Saeyla took you, and half dragged you from Va’ru. You shout and try to escape, but your mom holds you tight. Meanwhile, Ka’ani shouted at Va’ru with rage.
“You think you can be my daughter’s mate? No. I will never allow that. She is promised to another man!”
Your father never trusts Va’ru to be your mate. The main reason is, he sees that Va’ru is too close to the humans, and he doesn’t want you to follow the same steps. Ka’ani hates humans, in his eyes, they are always the demons who destroy everything.
Va’ru’s head hung low, as silence traps him.
“Promise to me, that you will never come to Y/N again,” Ka’ani’s voice is deep.
However, Va’ru always respects Ka’ani since he is his teacher. Ka’ani also has an important position in the clan as one of the closest companions to Olo’eyktan. So, Va’ru couldn’t say no to him.
“I promise, Sir,”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From that day, you never see Va’ru again. You visit his marui, but it is empty. You rush to the lab and ask every human there including Norm and Max, but find nothing. You asked his friends, but they didn't see him again. It’s like Va’ru now completely vanished from you.
On the other hand, your courtship with Neteyam is announced to the whole clan, and you live in a new marui with him now. Neteyam tied a beautiful necklace with a light blue pendant that he made himself to your neck, a symbol of you being his mate. He feels so happy, as he never loses his feelings towards you. You are the only woman that he has loved since he was still a child. His eyes glisten whenever he sees you, but on the contrary, your eyes always look blank when you see him.
Neteyam soon realized something is wrong, as you never looked happy. You looked different, so distant, and this is not Y/N that he knows. The first night after the courtship is announced, he finds that you are sitting in front of the marui with your chin lifted up, looking at the dark sky. Neteyam sits beside you, his hand tries to touch yours, but you dodge him. He sighs.
“What is wrong, Y/N? You seem not happy,”
You said no words, ignoring him.
“Y/N, we will be a lifetime partner. And I want to be no lies between us. Please tell me, what is bothering your mind?”
You are still silent. Then you stand up, go back and enter the marui, lie on top of the hammock, and close your eyes, sleeping.
Neteyam sighs. He soon lay beside you in the same hammock, but every time he tries to touch you, you always avoid him. He grunts and pulls back, making a gap between his body and yours. He finally sleeps with a pouting face.
In the next few days, you always keep your distance from Neteyam. Although you and he are a couple now, you never touch him in a romantic way or make a tsaheylu with him. Even you insist to sleep in a different hammock with him.
You only wear the engagement necklace from him when you are outside the marui, as you are afraid that your father will be angry if he sees you without the necklace. But inside your marui, you never wear it.
Your strange behavior got Neteyam confused. He couldn’t stay focused, and sometimes he got lost during the Olo’eyktan training, causing Jake to scold him. Neteyam can’t resist it anymore, he needs to know why you were acting like this all the time.
That night, finally he confronted you, trapping your figure between his tall body and the wall. His hand is on your shoulders, and he looks straight at you with a menacing gaze.
“Please tell me, Y/N, what is wrong with you?”
You remain silent. Neteyam grip on your shoulder became tightened. He looks at your bare neck without the engagement necklace that he gave you. His ears become flat and his brow furrowed in anger as he asks the next question.
“Are you not happy with this courtship? Do you love someone else?”
His question makes your ears perk up. You look down at your hand, seeing the turquoise ring that is always there, never leaving your finger. Like the feeling for Va’ru is always there inside your heart. You lift your hand, making Neteyam see the ring. You look at the ring before shifting your gaze and facing Neteyam.
“Yes. And he is Va’ru,” you answer him.
Your words feel like a dagger to Neteyam. He growls angrily at you, dragging your body with his tight grip on your shoulders. You squint against him, trying to run away, but he is too strong. Tears brim in your eyes as you feel his nails dig deeper into your shoulder, leaving some scratches. You beg him to let you go, but he didn't listen. Neteyam brings you out of the marui, and he calls his ikran. He made you sit on his ikran, with one arm holding your waist to keep you there.
"I will send you back to your parents,” his voice is menacing.
You shook your head frantically, showing your rejection. Neteyam is about to bond with his ikran when his eyes blink slowly, finally realizing your condition. There are some scratches on your shoulders, your whole body is trembling, tears stream down your face, and you keep sobbing.
He sighs and closes his eyes, his hands scratching the back of his head. Since when he became a harsh man? Finally, he takes you back to the marui. He says sorry to you. After that, he puts a healing paste on your shoulder, brings you water to drink, and waits until you are no longer crying.
“Now, tell me everything. And do not lie to me,” he looks straight into your eyes, his gaze demanding.
You gulped, but then you tell him everything. Starting from the love that you and Va’ru had for each other, until how your father end it.
Minutes passed in silence after you spoke, and your heart hammering in your chest. You lowered your head, too frightened to ask him. Neteyam then spoke again, this time his voice sounds raspy.
“Do you want to end this courtship?”
You close your eyes and take a deep breath. “Yes..” you answer, but you continue your sentence. “.. but I don’t want to face my parent's anger again,”
Neteyam doesn’t say a word. There is a crease on his forehead as if something is entering his mind. He opens his mouth again, asking you.
“Do you know where Va’ru is now?”
“I don’t know. I visited his marui, asking humans and all his friends, but still didn't find him,” you shrug.
“But he must be still in this forest. We can search for him, and I’ll help you,” he states, making you shocked and you step closer facing him with your brows furrowed.
“What? Are you serious?”
Neteyam's gaze locked on your face, studying every expression. He finally answers your question, “Yes, Y/N,”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And so, you and Neteyam ride ikran and spend some days searching for Va’ru. During this time, you get a deja vu, remembering your past with him. Neteyam is the first one who cheers loudly when you succeed at your Iknimaya. After taming your ikran, he invited you to fly with him. You and Neteyam were so excited at that time, flew as far as you both can and went back late. Which of course, caused Jake and Ka’ani to scold the two of you.
However, when Va’ru succeeded in the same ritual, it's you who cheers for him. He then took you to the spot in the forest where iridescent flowers live. You love flowers, and Va’ru always made you a flower bouquet, another thing that he learns from humans. And you see the same spot below you, as flowers bloom in various colors.
You ask Neteyam to stop and say that you want to pick some flowers. He nods, and then he watches you gather flowers happily as the sparkle never leaves your doe-eyes.
"You seem to like flowers," he asks with a curious tone, a slight smile curled on his face.
"Of course. Va’ru always brings me some," you answer, then turn around to gather yellow flowers behind you.
Neteyam's smile disappears. How can he forget? Va’ru is the man that you love. He slightly frowns and steps back to his ikran, deciding to wait for you there. You approach him several minutes later with the flowers already stored in the pouch hanging to your ikran body.
The two of you start the mission again, as the thought of Va’ru fills your mind. Where is he now? Is he safe? You are so lost in your thoughts, as you don’t realize that there is a large floating sharp rock in front of you. Your ikran made panic sounds to warn you, but you are too late. Your ikran hit the rock, making your tsaheylu detached and your body fell to the ground.
A scream came out your mouth, and your hands move panicky in the air trying to hold on to something but there is no object near you. Your head hit something and you can feel blood dripping on your forehead. Just when you think you will hit the ground, a hand catches your body. Neteyam. Clearly, he is panicking too, as he put your body in front of him on his ikran. It’s all you can remember before you become unconscious.
Later, you open your eyes, realizing that you are now laying in your marui. You see two figures outside and you hear Neteyam asking someone. “Kiri, is she okay?”
“She needs more yalna bark, Neteyam,” Kiri answers, and she looks in her pouch. “But I ran out of it,”
“It’s okay, I'll get it,” he answers.
“Neteyam,” you call him but your voice sounds weak. His face lightens when he hears your voice, and he approaches you instantly, sitting on your right side.
“Y/N, finally you’re awake! Thank you, Great Mother,” he caresses your face.
Kiri enters the marui and she brings a potion in her hand. She knelt on your left side, helping you to sit. After that, she made you drink the potion.
"This potion will only work for several hours. For tonight, she needs more yalna bark to make the healing process faster, Neteyam," Kiri says to his brother.
Neteyam nods. He looks at his sister. "Please take care of Y/N," Then his gaze shifted to you. "Y/N, I won't be long. You must rest now, okay?"
You nod weakly. Neteyam steps outside the marui and in a second you hear his ikran roar, flying to the forest. Kiri cleans the wound on your forehead. Several minutes later, Neteyam enters the marui with a big pouch in his hand, fully filled with yalna bark. He gives it to Kiri, and she starts to make the paste. The effects of the potion you drink before make your eyes feel heavy, as you lie down again and sleep.
When Kiri finishes making the paste, she gives it to Neteyam. However, her eyebrow lifted in curiosity.
"Now, you have to tell me. Why didn't you call Mom instead? She is Tsahik. And how did she get injured?"
Before answering, Neteyam looks at you, to check that you are already asleep. Then he whispers to his sister. "Come tonight at the Tree of Souls, and bring Lo'ak. I have something to tell,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Bro, what are you thinking?" Lo'ak says in disbelief.
"He's right. Have you lost your mind?" Kiri chimes in.
Neteyam can only sit still in silence. Tonight, he visits the Tree of Souls to find some peaceful time in the sacred place and asks the Great Mother for her guidance regarding his situation. After he finishes his prayer, both of his siblings visit him. Kiri and Lo’ak are the people that Neteyam trusts, the safe place for sharing his stories. So, he tells them about the decision he had made about Y/N. Which clearly, surprised both Kiri and Lo’ak.
“So you're telling me that your fiance loves another man, and you are helping her to get back to her lover? And after that, she will make tsaheylu with Va’ru, making you both finally end the courtship?” Kiri asks again in disbelief.
“Yes,” Neteyam nods.
“But bro, you are the future Olo’eyktan! What will people say?” Lo’ak's eyes filled with confusion.
“Even the Olo’eyktan himself must face reality, Lo’ak,” Neteyam answers him calmly.
“How about let’s give her some time? Maybe she will love you soon,” Lo’ak tries to give another solution.
Neteyam shook his head. “No, Lo’ak. She doesn’t love me. She’s not mine,” He sighs deeply. His eyes look misty when he speaks again.
“I may have her body close to me, but not her soul. She loves Va’ru, not me. I can’t let her suffer for the rest of her life, by mating with someone that she doesn’t love,”
Lo’ak couldn’t respond as his brother’s words made him totally speechless. So, it’s Kiri who confronts Neteyam again.
“But what about you, Neteyam? You will hand over the only woman that you love for your entire life to another man. What about your feelings?”
“I believe that love isn’t selfish. Love isn’t about self-happiness, but about giving happiness to the people you really love. I know at that time I will suffer, but I'm sure seeing her smile will erase all my sadness,” Neteyam stated, his voice slightly trembling but he said it without no hesitation.
However, Kiri is still in disbelief. “No, Neteyam. You’re being a foolish person for this. Sorry, I won’t support you this time,” She stands up about to leave when something unusual happens.
An Atokirina flew in between the mauve tendrils, reaching the three of them. Usually, Atokirina will reach Kiri, as she has special connections to Eywa. But this time, the Great Mother picks another person as Atokirina landed gently on the top of Neteyam’s head. It stays there for a minute, then flies again. Neteyam feels a calm feeling entering his body when Atokirina lands on him. It’s like the Great Mother herself reassuring him, supporting his decision.
This event made Kiri shocked, as her mouth slightly parted in awe. She finally says to Neteyam with a smile.
“Eywa gave you a sign, Neteyam. She supports you,”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Time flies as you spend your courtship with Neteyam, but it feels like an illusion to you. He is maybe the man that you see every day, but all you can truly see is Va’ru’s face. You visit Norm again at the lab, and this time you become more demanding, and Norm finally gives up. He tells you that Va’ru now lives somewhere near Angel Falls, a tall waterfall that separates the forest and the sea. It actually takes an hour to get there.
When you get back from Norm, it was raining and an eclipse is happening. You fly back into your marui in a rush. Rains make your body wet, all from head to toe, and water drops every time your body moves. You enter the marui and pick some stuff, when you hear an ikran roar behind you. It's Neteyam. He sees what you do, and walks towards you immediately with crease in his forehead and his braids swinging uncontrollably.
“Where are you going, Y/N?” Neteyam confronts you.
“Va’ru. Norm says he now lives somewhere near Angel Falls. I have to go there,” You pick your bow from inside the marui, and put in on your belongings.
“You can’t go now. It’s raining and eclipse outside,” he states, crossing his arms and standing between you and your ikran, blocking your way. Rain pours between the two of you.
“And who are you to forbid me?” you raised your eyebrow.
“Do not forget. You are still my fiance,” Neteyam says in a deep tune, his lips pinched together in a hard line. His gaze shifted to your neck. “Where is your engagement necklace?”
Your hands touch your neck, realizing that the necklace is no longer there. You shook your head. “I don’t know. I wear it when I visit the lab, but then it must fall somewhere,”
“Are you crazy? Your parents will be angry if they see you without the necklace,” Neteyam’s voice is thick with anger and now his ears flattened back against his head.
“I know,” you close your eyes, trying not to think about the situation he said. Then you open your eyes and continue your words. ”But you are not the man I love. Let me choose my own mate,” then you step aside, avoiding his body.
Neteyam grips your elbow instantly, preventing you from going.
"Let me go,” you grunt, trying to free your elbow from his hands.
“Y/N, listen to me. You can go to him whenever you want, but please don’t go now. It’s eclipse and raining, and you can get sick. I just trying to help you,” his voice softened as he now pleads and his grip tightened.
“I DON’T NEED YOUR HELP!" you yell at Neteyam. Your words make his eyes widen in shock, and he finally releases his hands.
“Fine,” he growls and went back to the marui.
After that, the sun slowly rises, making the rains and eclipse stop. You walk towards your ikran, making sure all the stuff is tied properly and made the tsaheylu. You are about to ride your ikran when you see something. Shit. You see both Jake and Ka’ani’s ikran flying toward your marui.
What should you do now? They clearly can't see you without the necklace. You walk back and forth in panic, trying to search for the necklace on the ground when suddenly, a crazy idea enters your mind. You enter the marui and untie the flap but only half of it, so the marui is half-closed now. Then you see Neteyam, as he is already inside.
“Why? You are not going to your lover?” he mocks you.
“Both of our parents are coming here. They must not see me without the necklace,” you say, then you lower your head.
You gulp before speaking again. “Neteyam, I need your help,”
“Oh,” Neteyam rolled his eyes. “I remember you say you don’t need my help before,” He shrugs, and walk away, completely ignoring you.
You frown, approach him quickly and grip his wrist to stop him. Then, you take a step closer to Neteyam, the closest you've ever been. He is raising his eyebrow, confused by your actions.
“Please, help me,” you beg him. Your doe-eyes softened when you look at him, like a puppy's eyes. “They will be furious if they don't see the necklace,”
Neteyam clenches his jaw, then he exhales loudly. Shit. How can he say no to those eyes? After all this time, you are still his weakness. “Okay. What is your plan?”
He waiting for you to answer, but all of a sudden you hug him, your hands curling around his neck.
"Just hug me, so they won't see my bare neck. Pretend that we are in love," you whisper to him.
Neteyam froze. How can he pretend, while actually, he is already in love with you? And now he can feel your heartbeat as your chest pressed against his. Your body seems so small yet so perfect between his arms. Your sweet scent filled his nose. This is surely the closest skin-on-skin contact he had with you in the past several months, as you never touch him and he never insists on it.
"Neteyam. Are they coming?" You whisper again, confused by his freezing reaction.
Neteyam blinks. He sees Jake, Neytiri, Ka’ani, and Saeyla walking toward the marui. "Yes," he answers shortly. Actually, he wants to say another word, but your sweet musk scent intoxicates him. He knows that you always smell good, but he never thought that holding you close will make him go crazy inside.
He also feels your smooth skin, like velvet. There are still some water droplets on your body, making your skin feel wet. He finally lifts his arms, caressing your back slowly, tracing your spine. His right hand hugs your shoulder gently. While the other hand brushed all the hair from your neck. Then he kisses your neck softly, making you shiver.
"Neteyam, Y/N! Sorry for a sudden visit, but we–" Jake enters the marui with an excited tone, but his words stop when he sees you and Neteyam embrace each other tightly, with wet bodies and him kissing your neck passionately. Your hands are tucked between his braids. Desire surely burns between Neteyam and you, making the two of you don't realize the surroundings around.
"Oops," Jake shrugs. "Looks like we came in the wrong time,"
"They are so lost in each other," Saeyla giggles.
"Even they forget to close the marui properly," Jake rolls his eyes. He then unties the next flap so then the marui is fully covered now.
"Well, he is definitely your son, Ma Jake," Neytiri winks.
Ka’ani laughs. "Let's give them some private time then,"
The four of them finally go back to the ikran and leave. But you and Neteyam are still hugging, and all the kisses he gives you are just so good. Even a soft moan accidentally slipped out of your mouth. His lips move from your neck up to your cheeks, as he kisses there also, making your face warm. When it finally stops, both of you pull back, breath panting.
"Thank you for saving me," you say, pausing for a second then you speak again, but now with regrets in your voice. Now you realize how gentle is he, still willing to help you although your words might hurt him before. "And I'm sorry that I yelled at you before,"
His hand tucks a strand behind your ear before he smiles and answers you. "It's alright.  And you're welcome, Y/N,”
After that moment, everything slowly changes, without you even realizing it.
Metkayina Tales (last part) - Make You Feel My Love
Neteyam x f!Metkayina reader (aged up) summary : Finally, Neteyam make you feel what he feels all this time for you. wc : 4,3 k warnings : contains fluff, a glimpse of smut (18+), and happy ending. inspired by this song series masterlist
Tumblr media
The celebrations began at night at Hope Cove. The air is filled with happiness as everyone is smiling. You wear your best ornaments, and your hair is decorated with pearls.
Olo’eyktan gave a speech about how Metkayina is grateful for two big events, your stronger health, and the birth of a new heir. The crowd rejoiced and celebrated. They eat, dance, sing, and play with each other.
You were so happy that night, a smile never left your face. Metkayina is at peace and has nothing to worry about. There is no sign of weakness in your body, it’s filled with new positive energy instead. Maybe the reason behind it is Neteyam, as he never leaves your side.
He always finds a way to touch you, either by putting his palm on your back, waist, shoulders, or hands. Every time he did that you were surprised but accepted it anyway, as the feeling of his warm skin gave you a tingly and secure feeling.
Neteyam looks very handsome that night, his dark complexion glows with ivory patterns, his braids were decorated with beads, and an iridescent necklace hangs perfectly at his neck. His arms and chest are toned with muscles, and sometimes you find yourself staring at him unconsciously.
On the other hand, you recognized that Metkayina people now respected him, they nodded at him and some even bowed to him. No more mocking or bullying. Finally, Neteyam was accepted into the clan.
Not only him, but the rest of his family also, as you spotted them joking and playing with the reef people. Especially Lo’ak who is dancing with Tsireya. You wink at her and Tsireya smiles ear to ear, looking so happy on Lo’ak arm. You gave her an air kiss.
Then, Neteyam and you found a nice spot, far from the crowd. It’s a beach with bioluminescent plants and sea creatures that glow in the dark. Palm trees lined up, like a fence. The smooth sand touched the gap between your toes when you walked. The sky looked like a painting, dark with white dots twinkling. It’s the place where you first healed Neteyam.
You both sat in front of the bush, covered fully from the sight. Neteyam sat behind you as his arms hugged your shoulders from behind, pulling you closer to him.
His face is on the slope of your neck and you can feel his warm breath slide across your right side. Your cheek blushed, then you leaned on him with a smile. The beach was gorgeous and the wind blew gently, making your hair tickle Neteyam in the nose.
“Sorry,” you giggled as you put all your hair on the left side, leaving your right neck bare.
“It’s okay,” Neteyam smirked as he put his face on your right neck again. “Sounds like our hair like to move against our will,”
You continued to giggle, and then you both fell into silence again. Shiny plants glow dimly around you both. You closed your eyes, feeling all the surroundings around you beating slowly in harmony.
Minutes passed, then something suddenly entered your head, a question you wanted to know for a long time. People told you about it, but you want to hear it from him directly.
“Neteyam, tell me about your journey to the Deep Trench,” your body is shifted toward him as you ask, his chest pressed against your side. But his arms were still around you.
“I think you already know it?” he quirked his eyebrow.
“I want to hear it from you,” you pouted, causing him to chuckle.
After that, he tells his story about how he saved you from his perspective, causing your mouth to part in awe. Deep Trench was located down in the ocean, only the finest Metkayina swimmer could swim there. The thought of Neteyam, who was originally forest Na’vi, swimming willingly down there to save you makes your heart warm.
When he finished, you rubbed his cheeks softly with your thumb to express your gratitude. He feels warm on your touch.
“Now you are one of the Metkayina warriors. You're becoming Metkayina Tale! No wonder people respected you a lot. You deserve it, indeed.” You whispered to him.
“Yes, Y/N. But my intention was not for fame or status. All I want is to keep you safe,” Neteyam leaned his face on your touch.
“I’m safe and sound now,” You smiled.
Other things began to pop into your head. You also heard some rumors, about Metkayina girl, trying to court him. This happened after he swam to Deep Trench, sure a girl must be amazed by him. Did he accept her?
“Actually I heard some rumors too, about the Metkayina girl that asked you to be her mate. Is it true?”
Neteyam chuckled, “Yes,”
“What was your answer?”
“Well, I rejected Airini and Kaia,”
Your lower lip protruded in a sulky pout, hated that other girl's name that was spoken by him. You were also surprised, knowing that actually, two girls were trying to court him. Now your fingers no longer touched his cheeks. Neteyam watched your expression change. He spoke again.
“I rejected them because I already chose someone. She is the only one I dreamed about, to be my mate.”
His words felt like a dagger to you. So he already chooses someone. What is he doing here with you then?
“Well, I hope you both will be happy then,” You began to rise, trying to find a way out of his arms, but his arm tightened, preventing you from escaping. Your eyebrow furrowed in confusion as you looked at his face.
“Skxawng, you really have no idea, do you?" His arms curled around your shoulders and he laughed.
You looked at him with confusion and asked, “Idea about what?”
His laugh stopped and now he chuckled nervously. He spoke again, but this time his voice softened, like about to tell a secret.
“Yes, you have no idea. About…. how many times I think about you. How many ways I dream about you. How many days I've been waiting to be with you. You have no idea.… about how I feel here all this time,” he gripped your fingers, bringing them to touch his chest, and you could feel his heartbeat beating rapidly. Then he continued his words.
“When you saved me, Y/N, I couldn’t believe that you were willing to risk your own life to save me. It gives me hope… that maybe you feel the same.”
Neteyam paused as he took a deep breath and closed his eyes. When he opened them, his amber eyes glistened when they look at your face, and his lips trembled as he continued.
“I love, I love you, Y/N. Would you be my mate?”
A warm feeling enters your entire body. A wide smile is created on your face along with happy tears in your eyes. You cupped his face while you gave your answer.
“Neteyam. There is no other man I ever desired to be mine. You are my only mate,” You cleared your throat and then said, “I see you, Ma’Teyam,”
Neteyam eyes softened as you said your words and the new nickname you gave him. He replied with a whisper, “I see you, Ma Y/N,”
You curled your arms on his shoulder, pulling him closer. His scent filled your nose, he smell so good. His arms are on your waist and he put you on his lap. You hugged him, pressing your chest to his, and he caressed your back softly as his breath blows on your neck. You both hugged for a while, pouring out all the feelings that have been buried before.
The embrace stopped when Neteyam’s fingers touched your chin, bringing your face to meet his. His gaze fell on your left eye, then down to your lips, and flickered again to your right eye. He asked you softly, "Can I kiss you?”
You smiled shyly. He is such a softie. Your head nods for sure, permitting him. He leans his face closer to you and you both closed your eyes. He pressed his lips against you. It was a soft kiss like you're made from glass and he doesn’t wanna hurt you. His lips were smooth, like velvet, and pillowy against your own.
This is your first time kissing someone, and his kiss tastes very good. It causes your breath to become heavy, and your heart beating faster. He pulled back and smiled happily, his fingers rubbing your cheek excitedly.
"I knew I would love kissing you, but this was…" Neteyam whispered, "Even better than my dreams,"
"Then let me give you something more than just a dream," you smirked.
You reached him again, but now you are crushing your lips to his. He was surprised, but then returns your kiss passionately, almost sucking. His tongue runs over your lower lip, asking for entry.
Your mouth opened, and his tongue slips in a rapid move and tangles with yours. You whined softly, low in your throat. His hands moved up and down the length of your back, wanting to touch every inch of you. When it is finally stopped, you both are panting.
Neteyam's hand went backward as he brings his queue to you, and you did the same. He intertwined his fingers into yours as he asked, “You’re ready?”
Your lips curled in a smile. “Always,”
And then, you and Neteyam’s queues joined. You close your eyes as now you feel what he feels all this time.
First, it's the silly crush, oh how he feels so lost. But then it changed into something deeper. Admiration, affection, love, desire. Fear and depression when you are still unconscious. The thought of you is what keeps him alive. He doesn't just want you, he needs you. Just one glimpse of you smiling could drive him crazy inside. All these feelings were overwhelming, and you open your eyes with a panted breath to find that he is already looking at you with a soft gaze.
"Teyam.. you've been hiding all these feelings all this time?" You asked in a shocked tone, as you never thought that someone would love you that deeply.
"Yes." He leaned his face closer to you, and his palms rubbed your cheeks. “I don’t think I could stop loving you.”
“Then don’t," you smile happily.
He kissed your forehead, then his lips moved downward, kissed both of your cheeks. You closed your eyes with a smile on your face, as his every movement caused the heat to rise on your face. You put your fingers in between his braids and tucked them. He smiled, then his lips find your eyelid and kiss both.
And he kisses your lips again. It was slow at first but then became intense like he wanted to show you all the desire he feels for you all this time. You return the kiss with the same passion, as your nails dig into his back.
His hand traveled in your neck and chest, touching your top that was hanging in front of your breast like he wanted to untie them. You gasped and pulled back.
"Ma Teyam. Don't do it here, we're still on the beach. People will find us. I know a place nearby, completely hidden. Follow me,"
His lips pouted like a disappointed child, and it caused you to giggle. You kissed his cheek and whispered, "Believe me, I want it too. Now come with me," your hand holds his, and you both swim, with the queue still connected. You both kept swimming forward until reached a small cove.
The cave is hidden and doesn't have an entrance, the way to reach it is only by swimming to the bay that is connected to the cave. You and Neteyam emerged from the bay, facing a beautiful sight from the cave. The bioluminescent plants glow in the dark, and when you step on the ground leave a shiny mark. The ground is covered in moss, so it's not hard, instead, it feels soft like a mat.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" You asked Neteyam, who is still looking around in awe. He snaps back at your voice, and in instance his arms curled around your waist, his thumb rubbing your stomach. You giggled as you could feel his breath on your neck when he answered, "Yes. But you are more beautiful,"
He placed a trail of kisses on your neck, making you close your eyes and moan at the sensation you never felt before. His hand unties your top and pushes it to the ground. Then his fingers move down, rubbing your inner thigh and releasing your loincloth, leaving you completely naked.
You gasped, opened your eyes, and turned around, to find him looking at you with a craving gaze. You smirked, as you crushed your body into him, lips pressed together. Now it's your hand who does the job, lingering from his neck and arms, feeling his muscles beneath your fingers. You untie his necklace and armband, then your fingers play with the bulge on his loincloth, causing him to moan between the kisses. In a second his loincloth falls to the ground, causing his body to bare in your sight.
The kiss breaks as you both fall to the ground, with your body beneath him. Your eyes sparkled, admiring how he looks so big and strong on top of you. Your fingers lingered from his neck to his broad shoulders and toned arms, looking very fine with all his muscles. You gulped, then you touched his tensed stomach, feeling every inch of his abs.
Neteyam kisses your neck again, but this time he also sucks, leaving your entire body feeling high like flying. His hands then play in between your thigh, making you moan, your toes curling and your nails scratching his back. He kisses your inner thigh, licking and putting his fingers inside your most private part in the middle of your thigh. The sensation is so good, it makes you cry. Upon hearing your cry he stopped, as his face met yours, his fingers stroked your face gently.
"My love, why are you crying? Did I hurt you? Do you want me to stop?" He asked calmly, his eyes full of worry. He is so gentle, even though he wants to continue, he asked for your consent first.
You shook your head. "No, Teyam. Please continue. I cried in happiness. Only you who can make me feel this good,"
He smiled. "As you wish, my love. Tell me if you feel hurt. I love you, I don't want you to feel any pain," and he continued what he did, pouring all his desire for you. Later, at the moment of the union between your body and his, you whispered to his ear softly,
"I love you too, Teyam,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Next morning, you wake up to find that his arms are hugging your body, his face resting on top of your chest. Neteyam hugged you like a child hugging his mama, with his broad shoulders covering your entire stomach, and his tail curled in your inner thigh. Every time you moved, he grumbled in his sleep, arms tightening like he was afraid of losing you.
You smiled at the sight, who thought that the mighty warrior could be so clingy? Your hands stroke his head, playing with his braids, which are lying in a mess on your chest. He opened his eyes to meet your face.
"Good morning, Ma Teyam," you said softly, with your hand caressing his face. He rises from his position, and now you are facing his chest, with his arms hugging you. Now it's Neteyam who caresses your face. His eyes glistened with happiness, as he placed some kisses on your forehead and cheek.
"Good morning, my love," Neteyam replied, then a smile never leaves his face.
You giggled, and your hand rubbed his cheeks. "Why do you never stop smiling?"
Neteyam chuckled. His fingers pinched your cheek in excitement. "How come I'm not smiling? I mated with the prettiest girl in the whole of Pandora. I'm very lucky to have you, Y/N,"
Your cheeks blushed, and you leaned your face closer to him, kissing him on the lips. He seems to enjoy it, his hand going up and down in between your hair and your back, stroking gently.
When it finished, you realized something. "Ma Teyam, we must go back. Let's tell our family, that we are now mated,"
He grunts, and his arms bring you closer to him. "Only if you give me one kiss again,"
You move your body on top of him, your hair falls between your face, and his hands are on your hips. You kiss him again all around his face, with your hand playing between his braids and his hands squeezing your thigh. He chuckled and his body rose, now holding you in his lap.
"All right. Let's go tell them," he finally replied, and you both stood up, helping each other to wear all the ornaments and loincloth, making sure that all were placed in the right positions. Then you both swim back to the village.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you and Neteyam told your parents, their response was harsh at first. Mating between forest and sea Na'vi never happened before. Also, as the first Olo’eyktan child, your mate shouldn't be an ordinary man. However, since Neteyam was now one of Metkayina's warriors, Olo'eyktan and Tsahik couldn't refuse him. After all, they witnessed how Neteyam was ready to risk his life by swimming in the Deep Trench just to save you. Finally, both your parents embraced Neteyam, and Tsahik performed some rituals and prayers to bless your future married life.
Then, of course, Tsireya supported your decision. She hugged you joyfully, making you almost fall. Meanwhile, Ao'nung behaved differently.
"My sister's happiness means a lot to me," Ao'nung pointed to Neteyam. "If she gets hurt, even a small scratch, you'll have to deal with me,"
Neteyam responded with a calm smile. He made a promise to always protect you with all his strength, ensuring your brother. They embraced each other at last, and you smile at the sight.
Next was the Sully family, who were more relaxed. Jake immediately accepted and hugged you and Neteyam, wishing you all the best for your future. Neytiri gets carried away with her emotions as she calls you Angel, saying that with the way you saved Neteyam, she believes that you are the companion Neteyam needs. Kiri is very happy to welcome you into the family. Tuk giggled and told the story of how Neteyam's face brightened when he heard you wake up, knowing that his world was bound to you.
And lastly, Lo'ak teased you both.
"What's wrong with you, Y/N? I'm sure there is plenty of fine men here, but you choose my bro instead," Lo'ak chuckled, and you see that Neteyam give him a bombastic side-eye, which caused you to giggle.
"Do you remember when he first saw you? He couldn’t say a damn word! Such a fool,” Lo'ak continued and shrugs in disbelief.
"Well, I think we all fool in love,” Neteyam now steps towards you, as he put his hands on your waist, bringing you closer to him, and you smile lovingly at him.
Lo’ak rolled his eyes. “Alright lovebirds, I understand. I know I’ll be an uncle soon. Last night must be a fun ride for y’all, huh?” he smirked, then he left.
“Lo’ak!” Neteyam growled, meanwhile you laughed. The laughter paused when Neytiri approached you, as she gave you some dark blue stones.
"These are Omaticaya stones, which we usually wear on our ornaments. As you are now part of our family, I want to give you these," she said with a smile on her face.
You thanked her and took the stones in awe. They looked so gorgeous, contrasting with your pale turquoise skin. Lastly, the Sullys make a family hug like they used to, but now with you as the new family member. They chant their family motto, and you follow them.
"Sully's stick together,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and Neteyam decided to live in a new marui pod, decorated with both Omaticaya and Metkayina culture. Neteyam's bow lies next to your spears, and he made a curtain from Omaticaya beads, hung next to your seashells curtain. You also learn from him to use a bow.
Neteyam helps you to make a necklace, combined with the Omaticaya stones from Neytiri and some of your most favored seashells and pearls. Once finished, the necklace never left your neck, always hanging there as a symbol of being his mate.
You never left your job as a healer, people still come to you when they need help. But now, you always have Neteyam by your side. He accompanies you when you visited the wounded, or simply by just helping carry healing items.
Months passed without you even realizing it. When days got tough, both of you always find a sweet escape. Tonight, the secret cave where you both mated for the first time is a perfect choice to make love passionately all night. Followed by Neteyam spooning you until morning comes.
This morning, you opened your eyes and squinted against the morning light, with Neteyam’s fingers curled around your waist. His thumb rubbed your stomach gently, making you smile. You turn your body and find that your mate is already looking at you.
Your hands touch his cheek. “Ma Teyam, you’re already awake?”
“Yes,” he answered.
“Why you didn’t wake me?” you asked.
“I don’t want to bother you. Besides, you look so tired these days,”
He’s right. These past few days you’ve been very busy, many people were sick and you visited them in their marui. Surely Tsahik was there too, but your youngest sibling needs some nursing time with her. So you have to stay in some critical patients' pods, monitoring their conditions all night. Neteyam saw how tired you were, and he had an idea to spend the night with you in this cave, to cheer up your mood.
“Yeah, but I love helping people,” you replied to him.
“I know,” Neteyam's fingers stroked your face gently, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. “But you also need some rest, my love,”
He kisses your forehead. You nuzzle into his face and your lips find his, united together in a kiss. When it was done, both of you were smiling at each other.
You leaned your face closer, wanting to kiss him again when suddenly, you felt a nauseous feeling entering your stomach. You pull back as the feeling crawls up entering your throat, and you can’t hold it anymore.
Shit. You stood up in a rapid move, ran to the corner, and threw up.
Neteyam approached you immediately, he took a leaf from a plant and cleaned up your vomit. Later, he sits beside you, his hand rubbing your back. You sit with closed eyes, trying to calm yourself. “Oh Eywa, I’m sorry. I’m ruined our moment here,”
“No no, my love, it’s okay. Let’s go to Tsahik,” Neteyam calms you.
He helped you to rise, and you both swam back to the beach. Luckily it’s not far from the cave. You began to walk to the village when suddenly Neteyam lifted you and carried your body in a bridal style.
“Neteyam, I can walk,” you protest to him.
“Ssh. Just let me carry you, okay?”
You nodded and closed your eyes as you can feel his heartbeat racing. Although he seemed calm on the outside, he must be panicking inside. You touched his chest with your hand, trying to calm your mate. His musk scent filled up your nose like soothing aromatherapy.
Finally, you both arrived at your parents' marui pod, to find only Tsahik inside. Your mom walked towards you both with worry in her eyes. Neteyam drops your body gently to the mat, telling Tsahik that you just vomited and asking her to check your condition.
Tsahik examined your whole body with her fingers as she said a chant to Eywa. She took a needle and poke it in the middle of your stomach, making you groan softly. Your response made her pull the needle out and her eyes blink slowly as if she realized something.
Neteyam waited anxiously, his tail twitching rapidly. He doesn't know much about the treatment Tsahik did to your body, he can only pray that you're alright. But since you are also a healer, you know exactly what Tsahik is doing. She is checking some symptoms that could lead to that one particular condition.
“Mom, could it be that I’m...?” you asked hesitantly.
“Yes, ma ite” Your mom nodded, and she smiled at you happily.
“What is it?” Neteyam approached you closer and placed both of his hands on your face cupping your cheek, demanding an answer.
He didn't understand why your mom was smiling, and he looked so confused as you can see in his round eyes. Your right hand touched his fingers and brought them to your stomach.
Neteyam staring at your stomach with furrowed brows. He still couldn’t figure it out. “What? You have a stomach ache?”
His question made Tsahik chuckle. “Go tell him, Y/N,”
You smiled at her then your eyes shifted back to your mate. Your right hand rubbed his hand over your stomach, and you lifted your left hand to interlock with his other palm on your cheeks. Happy tears begin to well up in your eyes as you finally open your mouth to speak.
“Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk'itan. You’re gonna be a father!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the end 🥰🥰 I want to say thank you so much for all the love and support y'all have given me throughout this series! I'm completely overwhelmed, and I hope you guys like this last part. Loads of love 😘🤗
note : Actually, I don't know if Na'vi also feels nausea and morning sickness in their early pregnancy or not. However, since this is just a fan fiction and I saw some other authors writing about the same condition in their fic, so I decided to write it in this chapter.
Metkayina Tales (part four) - I Did It For You (Neteyam POV)
Neteyam x f!Metkayina reader summary : Neteyam will do everything to save the woman he loves. wc : 3,7k notes: I want to try something new so I write this part from Neteyam POV. And we're closer to the end (4/5) series masterlist
Tumblr media
Since I saw Y/N for the first time, she always appears in my dream.
"What's your name?" She asked, but damn, this is the first time I feel so hopeless and tongue-tied. Believe me, all my words are deep in my throat, ready to release. But she's like a charming witch, casting her spell every time she's around me.
"I will heal you, Neteyam," then she grabbed my hand, and took me to the beach, cleaning my wound. If only she knows how beautiful she is, with her eyes lightened in passion every time she heals people.
"Neteyam, you're a fast learner!" She giggled in happiness when I succeeded in the spear lesson, and her laugh is the one view I could watch forever in rewind. Surely, she's owning my mind.
Then suddenly her face turned into sadness, tears brimming in her eyes, hair strands on her forehead, covering a bit of her tattoo.
"I failed to cure Ihaka,"
She looked miserable and I want to embrace her when all of sudden, she hugged me first. The feeling was flooding over me like a rushing tide. That's the first time I touched her. It feels so nice to feel her in my arms, and I know I'll do everything to make her happy.
"Neteyam, please, take me to my parents," now her breath is panted and she fainted, right in my arms. Her face slowly disappears, like a mist, and her body rises to the sky. I tried to grab her, but she is floating away in the air. Fear crawls over my body, prickling my skin. I run as fast as I can to chase her, but I am always beneath her, like a child chasing kites. I fell many times, my knees, elbow, and foot were bleeding but still, she was out of my reach, nowhere to be seen.
"NOOOOOO!!" I screamed in pain as loud as I can.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Neteyam, wake up!" Suddenly all the view I saw before disappeared, and changed into Lo'ak's face. His eyebrow is furrowed with confusion, and his hand is on my shoulders. I woke up with a sudden movement, my breath was panting, and I can feel sweat dripping on my forehead.
"You had that nightmare again, do you?" He asked again, his voice filled up with softness. I groaned and sit, with my hands running in my braids, trying to massage my own head. "Yeah, I think so,"
Lo'ak looked at me with worry in his eyes. He talked slowly, "Bro, if you still don't ready, you can do it tomorrow,"
"What are you talking about? I’ll do it today," my lips frowned, and I stood up, taking a few steps out of the pod, so I can see the sea.
Today is the day. I'll go to the Deep Trench and collect the Red Seaweed, the only plant that can cure Y/N. I trained with Olo'eyktan in just 2 days. Actually, it was planned to be much longer, but Y/N's condition is getting worse every second. I took a breath deeply and closed my eyes, trying to calm myself.
Since Y/N is coma, I always had a nightmare, of losing her. These nightmares wrap their evil hands around my soul at night. It's not the first time I dreamed about her though, but obviously, my previous dream is much happier than this bloody nightmare. These dark thoughts may follow me, but I can’t let them win the fight. I won't let this nightmare turns into reality.
Life without taking chances is no kind of life at all. If I had to run, if I had to crawl, swim a hundred rivers, and climb a thousand walls, then I will do it all. I would find a way to save Y/N, I need her that much. There's no place that far when it comes to the life of the woman I love.
I heard some steps that brought me back to reality. I turned around and found Tuk running towards me, and she hugged my waist. I bent to pat her head, while she said "Neteyam, we've been looking for you!"
And suddenly, all the members of my family approached me.
"Neteyam," Dad called my name. He still has some wounds on his face, but he looks strong. He patted my shoulders, "Today it’s the day. Good luck, son. I'll be near you down there,"
"Thank you, Dad," I smiled at him.
Now my mom is kissing my cheek. I could feel the strength in her voice when she talked. "My son. I believe that you can do it today,"
"Mother, your support it's all I need," I whispered and she nodded.
Kiri smiled at me and I could see her eyes teared up, as she took my hand. “Brother, take care. I'll help you down there,”
I squeezed her hand. “Thank you, Kiri,"
Lo'ak didn't say anything, but he hugged me tightly and gave me a reassuring look.
Then Kiri put her arm on my left shoulder and hugged me, while Lo'ak was on my opposite side. Mom, Dad, and Tuk joined, and we created a big family hug.
"Sully's stick together," Dad said, and all of us joined him, chanting our family motto.
"Sully's stick together,"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After eating and getting ready, I went to the Olo'eyktan’s pod, as he and his family were already waiting. Yesterday, we made plans for my departure to the Deep Trench. Lo'ak had a suggestion about Payakan taking me there, and this idea was opposed by Olo'eyktan.
But Payakan is the only Tulkun who knows the details of the location around Three Brother's Rock, the place where the Deep Trench was located, and finally, this plan was accepted. I'll be wearing a gill mantle later, to help me breathe underwater.
I bring my fingers to my forehead, to greet all the Olo’eyktan family. They greets me back,  and Tsahik gave me a special potion, which will optimize the muscles in my body when swimming later.
When I finished drinking, Olo’eyktan approached me and asked, “Are you ready, Neteyam?”
I answered him with no fear. “I am, Sir,” But then, I remember Y/N.
“Olo’eyktan, can I see Y/N in private before we leave?”
Tonowari looked at his wife, and she nodded. He smiled and pat my shoulders. “Of course,” Then he spoke to his family, “Let’s give him some privacy,” and they all left the pod, leaving just me and Y/N in the pod.
I walked toward Y/N, who is still laying unconscious on the carpet. I felt my breathing suddenly speed up. Next to her, are all the Tsahik medicines and equipment, lying in a mess. Some of the medicine bottles were seen to have been opened without being closed again. The needles and loincloths just lay beside the bottles.
My eyes looked at her body again, her hands folded on her stomach and her hair framed her face. There are dark circles around her closed eyes. Her face looked pale with no expression, without the beautiful smile she used to wear, or her ocean eyes. Her chest rose and fell weakly every time she breathed.
I knelt next to her and ran my fingers through her forehead, her hair, then down to her cheeks, which were starting to look gaunt. My eyes darkened with worry. Her absence only makes my heart grow fonder of her. She is my everything and I can't let her suffer like this forever. I must save her.
I kissed her forehead softly, with my fingers still caressing her cheek. Although she is in a coma, I believe that she can hear me, so I whisper to her ears.
“Stay here, Y/N. I’ll try my best to save you,”
Tumblr media
The mission starts at midday. The gill mantle was already wrapped around my back. My father, Lo'ak, and Tonowari take me to the Deep Trench, riding on Payakan, so I could save my energy. They would stand guard above the trench, with some of Metkayina's best swimmers and healers, just in case. Next to them are Kiri and my Mom sitting on ilu, as they refused to be far from me.
From the outside, Deep Trench appears menacing. It’s dark and filled with shadows that play tricks on your eyes. Even in the daytime, the trench looked sinister. But I won’t let fear rule me. There's no place that far when it comes to the life of the woman I love.
I approached the Deep Trench, with Tsahik hand’s on my shoulders. She made a sign with her hand, a prayer for Eywa, for my safety down there. Then her fingers made several circular motions on my forehead, arms, chest, and legs, a ritual to get rid of any bad things that might happen. When it finished, she nodded at me, permitting me to enter Deep Trench.
Before I entered the trench, I turn around and looked at everybody. They all looked tense, even Payakan didn't move a bit, as if he was frozen in the water. But then, my Dad smiled at me, like reassuring me. I smiled back at him and swimming down the trench, disappeared from his sight.
As they say, Deep Trench is dark and cold. Sunlight is not enough to illuminate this place. The Red Seaweed color would stand out, but it's hard to see clearly in this trench. I have to squint my eyes to make out what's in front of me. I blinked a few times, trying to focus.
Suddenly, a group of small, glowing fish approached me and swam around my body, as if trying to help me see in the dark. Some of them swam in front of me, like guiding me. I smiled. This must be Kiri’s help.
It's not just the fish, it seems like several plants also glow in the dark,  making a path toward the Red Seaweed. I can see the plant now and picked some. Tsahik said that I better pick several, so I filled up my waist pouch with all of those plants.
After that, I swam up. But suddenly, I feel dizzy. My chest hurt and my breathing was shallow, and instead of swimming up, I swam in a round motion.
Then suddenly, I hear Y/N's voice inside my head.
Hey, don’t be so tense. You must be relaxed, otherwise, you’re not gonna make it.
I blinked. Have I gone mad? Her voice sounds so close, like guidance within me. Then I hear her voice again.
If you're a lover, you have to be a fighter. If you don't fight for your love, what kind of love do you have?
And that's it. I know I must fight for her. Her voice is like a push I need, suddenly I can focus again and swim up in a straight movement.
When I reached out the trench, a hand gripped my arm, helping me. It was Dad. He put me into Payakan's fin, and we reached the surface in a minute.
I could feel all the Metkayina people staring at me. They were sitting on their ilu, tsurak, or just swimming on the surface. There were some amused expressions in their eyes when they looked at me, something very different from what I received before.
My family was all around me. Dad took me to his tsurak. Mom and all my siblings were hugging and kissing me and I was too tired to reply, so I gave them a smile and nod. Then both Tsahik and Oloeyktan approached me, and I gave them all the Red Seaweed in my pouch.
"This is the plant. Save her, please," I said when I gave them the plants. They both nodded, and Oloeyktan made his way toward the people, sliding in his tsurak, with me and my family following behind.
People were still keeping their gaze on me, and I got a little bit shy. And then Tsahik looked at me, as she smiled.
"Neteyam," she declared, "Now you are one of the Metkayina Tales!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I walk back and forth in my family’s pod. It's been five hours since I gave the sacred plants to Olo’eyktan and Tsahik, but until now there is no update yet. I started to upset, what if I’m too late and the plants can’t heal Y/N? The view of that bloody nightmare appeared again in my mind, and I exhale deeply, trying to erase that. Although the sun would still shine on, my whole world would all be gone. I could not bear the thought of losing Y/N.
Every little sound feels like it’s multiplying tenfold, and I can’t sit still. The rest of my family also waits in silence as they sat in a circle. Kiri hummed a prayer to Eywa, and Tuk followed her. My mother stood up and stopped me from walking, as she put her hand on my shoulders.
“Relax, my son. Y/N will be fine. You did a good job,” She tried to convince me.
“Mother, but there is no news yet. I’m scared. What if I’m too late? What if Y/N couldn't be saved?” I muttered.
“No, you come at the right time. Eywa will help Y/N for sure. What if you start to pray for her?” She suggested.
My lips parted trying to respond to her, but the sound of steps walking toward the pod stopped me. All people rise from their sit. Tonowari and Ronal enter the Sully's marui. I walked a flash toward them in a second and tilted my face, asking for an answer.
“I and my wife came here for telling the news.” Tonowari began to speak. “We tried to give the sacred plants to Y/N. We created a paste from half of the plant and smeared it on her face, as the priest prayed to Eywa. We were so afraid of our daughter’s condition…” he paused, causing my heart to begin flutter loudly.
“And how is she now?” I asked impatiently.
“At first, there was no change. But then, we realize that the dark circles around her eyes began to disappear. Her heart rate increased, and the color back to her skin. She is not awake yet, but she is stronger now.” Ronal continued and then she smiles, this news relieved everyone. My mom hugged me proudly as a smile finally created on my face.
Finally, Ma’Y/N is saved.
But I must be patient, she is not awake yet. Her health is my top priority now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(two days later)
“Neteyam!” Tuk shouted while she entered the pod. She walked towards me in a rush and held my hand.
“What is it, Tuk?”
"It's Y/N! She woke up!"
It's like my body was shocked by an electric volt. My eyes widened, and I ran to the Olo'eyktan's pod as fast as I could.
Tsireya and Ao'nung were in the front part of the pod, and I asked them hurriedly.
"Where's Y/N? Is she already awake?"
"Yes, and she's inside," Tsireya smiled.
“But Neteyam, please give privacy to my parents,” Ao’nung spoke, and his arms lifted in front of my chest, preventing me to enter the pod. “Wait here, until my parents are out. It won't take long, Y/N has woken up since this morning,”
I frowned but then sighed and nodded. Better not to make Olo’eyktan angry. So, I lean at the trees beside the pod and look at the sea. My fingers rubbed my head, and I can hear the sound of my breath. I feel so restless, every second seems like forever.
Finally, a couple of minutes later, Olo’eyktan and Tsahik stepped out of the pod. They seems relieved, and Olo’eyktan eyes found me. I bring my fingers to my forehead to greet them and asked Olo’eyktan politely.
“Sir, I heard that Y/N is already awake. Would you permit me to see her?”
“Yes, Neteyam. Y/N is inside the pod,” Olo’eyktan smiled at me.
"And she's waiting for you," Tsahik continued, and I entered the pod instantly.
I saw her crouching with her back to me, and her hands touching Tsahik's medicines and equipment, which had always been next to her when she was unconscious. Her wavy brown hair is now shoulder-length short and fell naturally without any hair ornaments. My eyes couldn't leave her body, and when she stood up, I called her name softly.
"Y/N," I called.
Her ears perked up when she heard my voice. She turned her body slowly, her hair swaying gently, revealing her face little by little.
And finally, I can see her face, the center of my gravity. At last...my love has come along. My lonely days are over. The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of this meeting. Her ocean eyes blends beautifully with the tattoo on her forehead and glistened when she looked at me.
We walked slowly closer, and it was like she had bewitched me, my eyes could not escape her face. There are no more dark circles under her eyes and her skin was no longer pale. My eyes checked the wavy pattern on her forehead, cheeks, arms, and legs, all around her body. All are still the same, she is still gorgeous as always.
A smile was engraved on my face as we held hands. My fingers touched her face, stroking her cheek gently. While her fingers touched my chest, right on the gunshot wound. Worry painted on her face.
"Neteyam," she finally spoke, and my name sounded melodious when she said it.
"How are you?" she asked again, her hand still touching the wound on my chest.
My fingers touched hers on my chest. "I've never been this good. You saved me, Y/N,"
She shook her head, then smiled and said, "It’s you who saved me, Neteyam,"
“I did it for you,” I answered her.
She smiled and approached me closer, her hands now curled on my back, and embraced me. I hugged her, my arms tightened around her body, my chin is on the slope of her neck, and her sweet scent fills up my nose.
I hugged her tightly as if I would never see her again. Tears already welled up in my eyes and fell to her cheek. She saw it, and her fingers wiped out the tears on my face gently, as she smiled.
Now I held her head, patted it, and my fingers played with her hair. She looked at what I was doing to her hair, and she said, "Mom and Tsireya cut my hair to tidy it up. She said that while I was unconscious, my hair kept falling out. So they rearranged my hair. Do you like it?"
I smiled and said, "It's all right. I like it."
Yes, she looked different with her new hair, but she is still beautiful to me. To be honest, my feelings for her are already deeply rooted in my heart, and her looks are only part of the reason. My fingers now touched her cheeks, which still look gaunt. I frown. Her health is much more important to me.
"But, you look very skinny now. You must eat, I'll cook for you." I said.
"Neteyam, I’m all right," she refused politely, but then a growling sound came from her stomach. I burst into a laugh, while she smiled sheepishly.
"You can't lie to me, Y/N. You are hungry, indeed" I told her.
I took her hand in mine and led her to her pod through the connecting part. She sat down in her pod, while I went to the kitchen, to cook her favorite food, grilled fish. Luckily, there was still plenty of food here. in between cooking, I stole glances at her. The feeling of excitement bubbled up in my chest, finally being able to be with her again.
The emotion of our reunion sealed as a perfect photograph in my soul.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since that day, I have been going to her pod every day. I asked Olo’eyktan and Tsahik for allowing me to be a helping hand to Y/N, and they accepted. So I take care of her, make sure she drinks her medicine, cook her food, and accompany her when she wants to go swimming. The rest of the clan rejoiced when hear about her condition, and two days later, Tsahik gave birth to the fourth heir of the clan, a handsome baby boy.
Y/N's health condition has also improved, now she no longer needs to take medication. To celebrate this and the birth of Oloeyktan's fourth child, he announced that there would be a celebration at Hope Cove,  which would be held the next day at night. All the people of Metkayina were invited, and the whole village was busy with preparations for the celebration. And my family is no exception.
So here I am in my pod, with Lo'ak helping me as he put some glowing beads on my hair. We spent minutes in silence before he speak.
"Bro,"
"Yes?"
“I heard some Metkayina girl try to court you today,” Lo'ak raised his eyebrows and I could hear the disbelief in his voice.
Since Tsahik announced me as one of the Metkayina Tales, some girls are starting to give me presents and affection, especially when I'm alone. Well, some even try to cross the line. And I didn't like that. I sighed. “Where did you hear that?”
“It doesn’t matter. Did you accept her?” Lo'ak asked though I assumed he already seemed to know the answer.
"No," I answered firmly.
Lo'ak smiled. His hands took my necklace and slowly put it around my neck. "Then who is this girl that you are waiting for?"
I closed my eyes. "You exactly know who,"
“Of course,” Lo'ak chuckled. “Bro, tonight you should ask her. Anything could happen tonight. You must stick to her side. And ask the question, ask her to be your mate, before somebody else does and you'll lose her forever,"
The thought of losing Y/N forever entered my mind and brought back again the glimpse of the bloody nightmare I used to see. I opened my eyes, then I looked at Lo'ak with full confidence.
"You're right. Tonight, I will ask her,"

Metkayina Tales (part three) - Total Eclipse
Neteyam x f!Metkayina reader summary : War is inevitable, and you must make one important decision. wc : 4.2 k warnings : mentions of death and blood notes : all characters are aged up (18+), and spider doesn't exist in my fic:) series masterlist
Tumblr media
“Stay here, Y/N,” Olo'eyktan spoke with a demanding tune.
“But Dad, I want to fight!” you furrowed your eyebrow.
“With Tsahik fighting too, then there will be no healers left,” Now your father grabs your shoulders and look directly into your eyes.
“Y/N. I need you here, as tsakarem, to heal injured people during this battle,”
You look into your father's eyes, knowing that you couldn’t resist his order. “Okay, Ma Sempo. I will stay here,”
“Bring the tsarki, Y/N, just in case. But don’t use all of them,” your mom added, and you nodded, as they went to their tsurak and gather all the Metkayina troops.
Recently, Roa’s death made the whole clan in anger and want to revenge, but Jake stopped them, telling them that they should send Tulkun away instead. But then, war is inevitable when all of Sully's children and both of your siblings are in trouble as they tried to save Payakan from the demon’s ship.
You feel so restless as you want to fight, but you remember your parent's order, and you make a health station for curing the injured people. The tsarki is inside your pocket, covered by a thick cloth to prevent it from breaking. You help the injured Metkayina soldier who came to you. Thankfully, their wound isn’t lethal.
Eventually, you see your father’s cape swinging from afar, and it's followed by the whole Metkayina troops, reaching the beach. The winning chants are sung by the troops and you feel so relieved.
“We win! All of the demons have been killed!” your father lift his spear in the air, and the rest of the troops followed him and shouted in happiness.
You rejoiced with them, but then you realized that your siblings and the Sully family were nowhere to be seen. So you asked your father, “Dad where are Tsireya, Ao’nung, and the Sully family?”
“They are behind us. Don’t worry Y/N, they are still on their way here,”
You nodded, and went back to your pod, avoiding the crowd on the beach. You were about to enter your pod when suddenly, a figure approached you. It’s Lo’ak. You smiled at him, but his face was panicked.
You quirked your eyebrow. “What happened, Lo’ak?”
He took your hands. “Y/N, I need your help. Kiri and Tuk are kidnapped by Quaritch, and they are still on the ship,”
“Who is Quaritch?”
“The main villain behind all of this. He is a demon inside Na’vi body, and he is still alive,”
“But Olo’eyktan said that all the demons were already killed!” you spoke in shocked tune.
“Y/N, it’s a trick. Only Quaritch is still alive on that ship. Please, Y/N, we need you. We know that you’re a strong warrior, and we need your help to get my sister,” Lo'ak's eyes is softened, as he beg you to trust him.
“Okay, let me get my spears,” You took your spears and then followed him.
Both of you left and went into the battlefield, and you met Neteyam, Tsireya, and Ao’nung who is waiting near the demon's ship. Neteyam's eyes widened when he saw you, as he approached Lo’ak and scolded him.
“Skxawng! Why did you bring Y/N here?!”
“Bro, she is a strong warrior! Besides, we don't have much time left!”
Neteyam frowned in frustration, as he doesn’t want to put you in danger. You are too precious to him and he won't forgive himself if you are hurt. The thought of you fainted in his arms lately plays in his mind. He had a strained expression on his face, with a crease on his forehead and his ears are flat. You approached him and take his hands, trying to calm him down.
“Neteyam, I want to help. Let's get your sisters back. Where are they?” your eyes searching for his.
Realizing your touch, Neteyam sighed and looked into your eyes while answered your question. "They're still on the ship. But we have to be careful, I don't want anyone to get hurt,"
"Okay, now let's make a plan to escape them," you smiled.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Neteyam, Lo’ak, and you walked slowly while entering the ship. The main goal is to take Kiri and Tuk back from Quaritch. All around you, there are corpses and remnants of the battle, bullets, arrows, and bloodied spears of the Metkayina army.
All of Quaritch's crew have been killed, except for himself. You know that your father had given the order to retreat, falling for Quaritch's trick of hiding himself inside the ship. Metkayina's troops and Sully’s couple didn't know that Kiri and Tuk were still being held on the ship and now there are only three of you left. You grip the spear in your hand tightly, fully alert to attack the enemy.
Loak and Neteyam managed to find the bound Kiri and Tuk, and immediately grabbed knives to untie them. As they sever the ropes, you look around to keep them safe. There was no one.
All six of you finally returned to the exposed part of a ship's hull, connected to the ocean, where Ao’nung and Tsireya waited there. They already called the other ilu to help. You and Neteyam boarded last, making sure everyone was seated in their ilu.
You were so tense watching your surroundings that you didn't realize that Neteyam held your hand and said, "Come on, Y/N.  We better get out of here."
You nodded but stayed alert. Your ears twitched as you heard a sound, then everything happened very quickly. Quaritch appeared from around the corner, his hand pointing a large rifle and firing at Neteyam. He was shot in the chest and fell to the ground. Lo’ak pulled Neteyam's body into the water, sitting him on the ilu. Neteyam groans in pain and it hurts you like you were feeling his pain too.
You hiss in anger and shout, "Demon!"
Quaritch fired again at you, but you dodged nimbly. His hand squeezed the trigger of his rifle but apparently ran out of bullets. He yells angrily, "I don't care about you, mermaid! I just need Sully!"
"I care about killing demons like you!" you shout louder to threaten him. He is now one meter in front of you, with his tall burly body and threatening gaze, as he took the knife on his waist. You hissed again, held your spear, and ran, towards him.
You shouted “For Eywa!’ as you stabbed him in a rapid move, the spear piercing his chest. Your breath catches and you rarely blink as you see Quaritch dying, blood dripping from his body. He fell on the floor.
"Don't ever come back!" The words come out of your mouth as Quaritch finally dies.
Your gaze instantly softened when you remembered Neteyam. You ran out of the ship to find that everyone was gone. Panic begins to overcome you, and then you spot them on a cluster of rocks near the ship. You swam as fast as you could, and in an instant, you were there.
All around Neteyam, the wound on his chest looked severe and blood continued to drip from it. Everyone panicked. Kiri and Lo’ak pressed their hands on Neteyam's chest, trying to hold back the blood, but it seemed to be in vain. Ao’nung and Tsireya were trying to clean the blood off his chest. Tuk cried while stroking Neteyam's cheek.
You rush to sit beside Tuk, and Neteyam looks at you with weakened eyes. You turned his body over to check the injury. Oh no. Blood is also dripping from his back. The wound is lethal and he is starting to limp, his skin turning pale.
"Y/N," Neteyam panted in pain while calling you, and you forced yourself to smile, even though your eyes start to tear up.
“Don't worry, Neteyam. I will heal you,” You said, although you know his time is near.
The sound of Ikran's roar was suddenly heard and in a glance, Neytiri and Jake were approaching you all. Neytiri cried out in pain and you backed away, leaving Neytiri holding Neteyam's head in her lap. Jake couldn't hide the sadness and panic on his face. Neytiri's screams and cries mix together. "Great Mother, someone please do something!"
Your eyes blink as you remember something. That is something actually, that you can do to save Neteyam.
"I can save him," You move to Neytiri's side and she looked at you with a desperate gaze and says, "Save him, please,"
You nodded and took the small bottle of the sacred water, tsarki, in your waist pocket.  With his lethal wound, Neteyam needs all the tsarki to heal him.
Tsireya and Ao’nung's eyes widened when they realized what you were about to do. Ao'nung moved towards you trying to prevent you.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Ao’nung’s voice was completely in fear when he asked as he tried to snatch the tsarki from you, but you were faster.
"Don’t do this, Y/N!" Now Tsireya cried beside you.
You shushed her, and hug all your siblings, "I am a healer. I will not leave someone without healing them." Then you kiss their cheek, leaving the rest of your tears on their cheek.
Now, you looked at Neteyam's face. His eyes are looking up at you and you can see he is dying. He knew what you were about to do, and he shook his head weakly, giving his rejection. But you give him a soothing look and his gaze never leaves you as you slowly pour the tsarki into his mouth.
It's a bit difficult actually because Neteyam is already breathing heavily and you have to ask Neytiri for help to sit Neteyam upright. Then he drank it all, and his eyes blinked slowly as if processing what had happened.
Everyone waited anxiously like you could hear their heartbeats beating so fast. Neteyam didn’t react for a while. But then the effects of tsarki began to show. Neteyam's breathing became stronger, and his face no longer paled, his gaze was no longer blank. The bleeding stopped. All of his family members approached him and hugged him. Neytiri cried out in gratitude and kissed your cheek.
She said, "Thank you, Y/N. You are truly an angel."
Neteyam hugged them all back, but his gaze soon laid at you as he realized what just you did. His body no longer trembled. Instead, you felt your body weaken as if all your strength was transferred to Neteyam's body.
Your vision becomes blurry, your head is spinning, and you faint to the ground. Neytiri catches you, now that you are in her arms. The happy feeling that had graced her face earlier has now turned into worry, and she caresses your face gently. "Angel? what happened?"
Tsireya came over to you, she took your hand which started to tremble on her cheek. She burst into tears and called your name.
You smiled at her and said, "Don't be sad, my dear sister. I've done my duty."
Ao’nung followed her, also in tears when he screamed “No, Y/N! Don't leave us!”
Neytiri's eyes widened when she finally realized what happened, and she looked at you frantically. Neteyam approached you in a rush and held your other hand.
“Y/N, what did you do? You sacrifice your life for me,” his voice is trembling. You smiled at him, trying to calm him but it was no use, his fingers stroked your face rapidly, and his tears fell on your cheek.
You gathered all the strength left in you as you feel your eyes sore and pain filled your chest, making you hardly breathe. Your lips parted when you said your last words, haltingly.
"Please… take me.. to my parents,"
(third pov below)
Y/N's eyes clenched shut in Neytiri's arms. Everyone began to panic again, Neteyam checked her pulse and Ao’nung checked her breath. She is still alive, thank Eywa. But she did not respond to anything and her eyes remained closed. Tsireya’s lips trembled as she cried and Ao’nung looked petrified. His arms are on Tsireya's shoulder, trying to comfort her.
Large ripples began to form in the water around them. Tonowari, Ronal, and all Metkayina's troops appeared, panic in their eyes. They had just realized Quaritch's deception, and now they were back on the battlefield. But they were too late, and now they saw Tonowari's eldest daughter lying unconscious. Tonowari and Ronal approached Y/N.  Ronal hugged her body and snatched her from Neytiri's arms.
"What happened?" Tonowari's voice boomed as he asked. But no one answered, and the silence grew tenser and tenser. Tsireya finally raised her head, and she answered her father in a sobbing voice.
"Neteyam was shot by Quaritch. He was still alive on the ship. Loak, Neteyam, and Y/N rescued Kiri and Tuk who were held hostage by him. They succeeded and were about to escape when Quaritch shot Neteyam."
“I saw it when she killed Quaritch. My sister is a brave warrior. She stabbed Quaritch with no hesitation even though he is taller than her,” Ao’nung’s voice followed his sister.
"I was dying" Neteyam continued. "But Y/N said she will heal me. Her siblings tried to stop her but she was stubborn," His head lowered, and his eyes looked at Y/N who was still unconscious in her mother's arms.
"What did she do?" Tonowari approached Neteyam and stares at him intently, demanding an answer.
"She made me drink the tsarki. All of it," he answered.
Surprised voices rang out from the Metkayina troops. Tsarki is a holy liquid that should only be used for urgent purposes and it’s Y/N's lifeblood, and now she gave it up to save Neteyam.
Tonowari was taken aback, his looks puzzled and his mind filled with questions as he watched Neteyam closely. Why would Y/N want to sacrifice herself for Neteyam, who wasn't even from her own tribe? He knows his daughter very well, she is not a clumsy person, and she will do everything for a strong reason. Y/N always did her best for the people that she loves.
Love? Tonowari gasped. He remembered all those moments between Y/N and Neteyam, and how Neteyam is the only person that can comfort her eldest daughter when she failed to cure Ihaka. Is love the reason why she is doing this for Neteyam?
Ronal’s voice then sent him again to reality, and he approached his wife.
“She is still breathing,” Ronal said, her eyes sat on Tonowari’s face. “But she is now in a coma, and we never experienced this condition before.”
Tonowari nodded. “We must take her back to the village,” then he looked at Neteyam again before looking at everyone.
“Pull back, and tell the healers to gather all the medicines that we have. War is over, for now, our priorities are Y/N’s condition. Let's go, hurry!”
And everyone followed the Oloyektan order, going back to Awa'atlu. Ronal laid Y/N carefully on her pod. Tsireya and Ao’nung entered every pod, gathering the best medicines, bandages, and everything that maybe can help to cure Y/N.
At the Sullys pod, the situation was puzzling. They all hugged Neteyam again, happy that Neteyam is alive, but worried deeply for Y/N.
Jake said in disbelief, “Why Y/N did that?”
“I didn’t know that tsarki was the source of her life,” Neytiri continued, as he now looking at her eldest son. Neteyam no longer felt pain, but there was still blood crusted on his chest and his back. Neytiri realized that, and she said, “Neteyam, go clean yourself. Lo’ak, help your brother,”
Both of Sully's sons then step outside the pod as they reach the water, while Lo’ak washed the wound. Kiri then approached them. They try to talk to Neteyam while they take care of him, but he responded in short sentences like something is haunting him. When it finished, Neteyam walked hurriedly toward the village, with his siblings chasing him behind.
Tumblr media
“Brother, where are you going?” Kiri yelled.
“You know it,” Neteyam muttered.
“Bro, she is now under Tsahik’s treatment. I believe that she will wake up soon,” Lo’ak tried to calm his brother, and he put his hand on Neteyam's shoulder.
“And how can you be so sure? The Tsahik herself said that this is a rare condition, never happened before,” Neteyam brushed off Lo’ak’s hand on his shoulder.
“I know bro, damn, just relax,” Lo’ak replied.
“Relax? How the hell am I supposed to relax, you skxawng?” Neteyam's ears are flat and he frowned. He talked again and pointed to himself,
“If she dies, then I die too. My life would be a total eclipse,”
Lo’ak and Kiri's eyes widened. They looked at each other, realizing how deep is Neteyam's feelings for Y/N. All of them run again and finally reach the Tsahik pod. Neteyam almost collided with Tsireya and Ao’nung who step out of the pod. Their expressions are horrible, and Neteyam grips Ao’nung’s wrist to stop him.
“Tell me, how is Y/N's condition?” Neteyam's voice is demanding.
“She is far from health,” Ao’nung answered, his head lowered.
Tsireya sobbed. “She grew paler, and there were dark circles created under her eyes. Her hair started to fall out,”
Kiri closed her mouth with her hand in shock. Lo’ak put his arm on Tsireya’s shoulder, trying to calm her. Neteyam shook his head in denial. “No, this can’t happen. Have the Tsahik tried everything to cure her?”
“We tried everything,” Ao’nung spoke. “But her body didn’t respond to anything. It’s a rare condition, we don’t know what to do,”
Silence enveloped them all, as frustration can be seen clearly on Neteyam’s face. He walked back and forth, his mind perplexed. Until he remembers something.
“I recall Y/N told me, that besides tsarki, there are other sacred elements here, some plants. Located in a trench near the Three Brother’s Rock, but I forget the name. Can we go there to get the plant?” he asked.
Ao’nung and Tsireya gasped. “No, Neteyam you can’t go there,” Ao’nung warned him. “It’s called the Deep Trench, and the sacred plant is Red Seaweed. Only the best Metkayina swimmers can go there,”
“Well, I think there is plenty of strong swimmers here. Why don't we ask them?” Neteyam suggested.
“Neteyam. The only person who is able to swim down there is only Olo’eyktan. But he declared that no one will swim there again, as the temperature is freezing, and also the water pressure is high,” Tsireya answered.
“But this is the only way to save Y/N. And if no one will go there, then I will,” Neteyam declared, causing everyone surprised.
“Bro, what are you thinking?” Lo’ak stepped forward facing Neteyam.
“We nearly lose you, I can’t bear to lose you again,” Kiri begged him too.
“She saved my life. I won’t forgive myself if she died, I have to do something,” Neteyam stated.
Lo’ak looked at his brother’s face with eyebrows furrowed. But then he found that his brother’s face is filled with a strong determination, no hesitance at all. Lo’ak and Kiri exchanged glances, they know that nothing will stop Neteyam. Finally, they nodded, expressing their approval.
The Metkayina siblings looked puzzled too, as they looked at each other.
Ao’nung finally open his mouth.
“If that is the case, first you have to ask for Olo’eyktan’s  permission, and it’s only he who is able to teach you how to swim down there,”
“I will,” Neteyam reciprocated.
Tsireya took Neteyam’s hand. “I know this is crazy, but I support you. If you succeed, our sister is finally can be healed. But you must prepare yourself, the path down there isn’t easy,”
Neteyam looked at her. “Thank you, Tsireya, and I will try my best. Now, where is your father?”
“He is inside,” she answered.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tonowari sat beside Y/N’s body, with his hands on his older daughter's head. When he lifted his palm, there were a few strands of hair falling out and tucked between his fingers. Tonowari exhaled in despair. Y/N’s condition is getting worse every second, and it frustrated him so much.
As an Olo’eyktan, he must keep his head high and strong, but how can he be strong when his dearest daughter is unwell?
His wife sat next to him, trying everything she could to help Y/N, but no one works. Ronal's eyes began to tear up, and Tonowari hugged her.
They comforted themselves when suddenly Tsireya appeared, with Neteyam and Ao’nung behind her. They bring their fingers to their forehead, a form of greeting.
“Ma Sempo. Neteyam wants to talk to you,” Tsireya speaks.
Olo’eyktan’s gaze then shifted to the eldest Sullys son. He realized that Neteyam now is much better than before, seems like tsarki brings him to his finest conditions. He shows no signs of pain.
Neteyam cleared his throat and began to speak. “Sir, I have an idea to save Y/N. But I must ask for your permission first,”
“Permission for?”
“I want to swim to the Deep Trench, and collect the Red Seaweed,”
Both Oloyektan and Tsahik gasped, as they stared at each other. “Are you sure?” Ronal asked Neteyam, she stood in front of him, judging his expression.
“I’ve never been so sure before. This is the only way to save Y/N,” Neteyam's eyes looked into Tonowari. Tonowari walked toward him, and his large figures created a shadow on Neteyam's smaller body.
“Hear my words, boy,” Tonowari spoke, “To go to the Deep Trench, you must use different techniques of swimming. It's cold and dark there. Now let me ask you again, are you sure?”
“Sir, you owe me a wish before. My wish is, for you to teach me the way to get there and collect the Red Seaweed. With your help, I believe I can get there. We must place some army, tulkun, and healer too near us, just in case something worse happens,” Neteyam answered clearly, with no fear in his voice.
Tonowari looked at Ronal, and she finally spoke, “He speaks the truth. We must give him the chance, but we must create a wise plan to take him there, we must not leave him alone,”
Tonowari nodded at his wife's words and looked at Neteyam again. “Then it is decided. Tomorrow, early in the morning, came to my pod. I will teach you how to swim down there. We will also create a plan for going down there. Now, dismissed,”
Neteyam smiled, as he said his gratitude, and left the pod.
Now he faces both of his sibling who is waiting outside, and he is nodded, telling the news. Lo’ak is relieved, but then he asks, “Bro, you haven’t told Mom and Dad yet. What if they don’t accept it?”
Neteyam holds Loak’s hand. “Then, you must help me, baby bro.”
His eyes then shifted to Kiri. “You both must help me to convince them. I know this is a crazy plan, but I will do my best,”
Kiri’s lips curled in a smile. “We will, my brother. Now let’s go to our parents,”
Neytiri and Jake are sitting down, with Tuk in the middle. They stood up when the rest of their children entered the pod.
Neteyam spoke first. “Dad, Mom, I want to tell you something,”
Neytiri tilted her head. “What is it, Neteyam?”
“I want to save Y/N. Her condition is getting worse each day. The only way to save her is to dive into Deep Trench and collect the Red Seaweed, the plant that can save her. I already spoke to the Olo’eyktan, and he is willing to teach me how to swim down there,” his sentence caused his parents to shocked, Neytiri's eyes bulged, while Jake freezes in response.
Neytiri spoke harshly, “No. I can’t lose my son again.”
“Are there is no other way?” Jake finally found his voice.
“No, Dad,” his eldest son answered.
Kiri walked forward, defending his brother. “Mom, Dad, Neteyam will be trained by Olo’eyktan himself. And he is a fast learner, he can do this,”
Her mother shook his head. “Kehe. Oh Great Mother, must I let my son go into a dangerous place again?”
While Jake is silent still, he looked at Neteyam, studying his expressions.
Now Lo’ak is speaking. “Mama, he won’t be alone. Olo’eyktan will arrange a plan, and the best swimmers, healer, and tulkun will look after him outside the trench, in case something happens,”
Jake sighed. He walked, now facing his oldest son. “I will guard him too, then. But son, are you sure? What is you are gonna do it’s something really dangerous,” Jake's eyes set on Neteyam's face.
He answered his father with a reassuring voice. “I’m sure, Sir,”
“Then I give you my permissions,” Jake stated, “But I must guard you close when you are down there,”
On the other hand, Neytiri seems displeased, as she walked outside, avoiding his son. Her voice is pitched, “Why are you doing this to me, Neteyam? I won’t let you, you must stay in this pod, safe and sound,”
Neteyam approached his mother, but she turn her back on him. He sighed and then said, “Mother, if you’re in my position and Dad it’s in Y/N’s position, what will you do? You’ll save him, do you?”
His mother gasped, finally turnaround to see his son's face and ready to scold him, but she found firmness and courage in his face. Neteyam inherited his mother’s trait, persistence. Once he decided something, no one could change his mind. Neytiri took a deep breath as her face slowly softened. Seeing the change in his mother’s demeanor, Neteyam spoke again.
“Mother, I love her. I need your blessing so that my love won't be in vain. I must save her,”
Neytiri eventually nodded and gave her approval. The rest of his family holds their breath when finally, Neteyam admits his feelings for you. He is not the person who hides his feelings inside anymore, he now trying to speak what he feels. Lo’ak pats his arm, smiled proudly and said,
“Fight for your love, bro. We will always support you,”

Burning Flames
Neteyam x f!Metkayina reader summary : the bond between you and Neteyam grows stronger, as unexpected things happen. wc : 5.3 k warnings : mentions of death and blood notes : all characters are aged up (18+). I put some gif to help you visualize the story series masterlist
Tumblr media
The bond between you and Neteyam grows stronger. You both spend a lot of time together, talking for hours, swimming in the sea, and laughing together at some jokes. Now you know a bit more about his family and especially his personality. You encourage Neteyam to be more open, as you noticed that most of the time he hides all his burdens inside, and it’s not good for his mental health.
Ronal gave you a break from Tsahik training, so you have plenty of free time now. Tsireya and Ao’nung often asked you to accompany them while they trained the Sullys.
Since you are also a skilled warrior, so you trained both Sully's sons to fight with Metkayina's spear. You, Tsireya, and Ao’nung came to them, bringing the spears. You make a sign on a palm tree for the target, the main target is a dot in the center of a circle.
“Okay, everyone. Today we will learn about becoming a Metkayina warrior. We use spears in battle. First, I will demonstrate, then you all follow it,” You grip the spear firmly, and begin to run and jump while throwing the spear at the targeted tree in the blink of an eye. As usual, you never miss the target. Everyone clapped their hands in awe.
“Geez, she so fast!” Lo’ak shook his head in disbelief, and Neteyam is all smiles.
“She’s my sister, what do you expect?” Ao’nung told him proudly.
You blushed, and Neteyam notices that you look cute when you are shy.
“Guys, don't flatter me. It’s my father who teaches me. Now let’s begin on how to grip the spear.” You responded. Ao’nung divided the spear into Sully's son, and they grip it.
“No, no. It’s too low,” You corrected Lo’ak, who held the spear in the wrong way. He then changed his hand position. "Yes. Hold on to that position,”
Your eyes then shifted to Neteyam, as you take a look into his hand. He already grips the spear in the right position. You nodded to his hand, but then you realize his shoulder is too tense. You walk behind him and you touch his shoulder gently.
“Hey, don’t be so tense. You must be relaxed, otherwise, you’re not gonna make it,”
Realizing your touch, Neteyam's heart began to beat fastly. Surely his eyes never leave you, and now you’re in front of him. He held his breath when you took a step closer to him, observing his posture. Finally, you step back and nod.
“Okay, now before you throw the spear, you must prepare your footing. Eyes looking a the aim, no hesitation.” You gave an example with your foot, and both of Sully’s sons copied your posture. You nodded.
“Then you run, but only a few steps. Pull your throwing arm back with your hand a bit higher than your shoulder's height. Then, you throw the spear. It must move from behind your head to the release point in a straight line. Now, let's do it,”
Lo’ak and Neteyam tried to follow your instructions, and they threw the spear. Sadly, it’s all miss, barely touching the circle. Neteyam sighed and Ao’nung laughed mockingly while Lo’ak looked at him angrily. You saw it and said, “Ao’nung, don’t mock them. They are learning,” Then Ao’nung shrugs innocently, making you roll your eyes.
Tsireya stepped to your side and suggested, “Why don’t we work in pairs? Maybe Lo’ak and Neteyam will understand more,”
“It’s a good idea. Tsireya, you teach Lo’ak, and I’m with Neteyam.”
Tsireya stood beside Lo’ak as she repeat the instructions, while you stand in front of Neteyam. You were about to say something, but the sun shone on his dark blue skin, and his sweat glided on his chest and arms, making his complexion glow. He lowered his head to look at you, his braids swinging.
You gulped, just realizing how gorgeous he is. Your eyes find the stripes pattern on his face, mainly on his forehead and cheek, these features make him look like a painting. You blinked and noticed that you stared at him for a bit too long. But he seems to enjoy it though, his gold eyes never leave yours.
“Okay Neteyam, let’s try again,” you ordered him. He nodded, gripping the spear again. His foot take the position, but again his shoulder was too tense. You put your hand on his shoulder. “Relax, Neteyam,”
Your fingers then linger from his shoulder to his chest and feel his heartbeat. You furrowed your eyebrow in confusion, his heart beats rapidly like about to explode.
“You must slow down your heartbeat,”
“I’m sorry, I’m nervous,” Neteyam replied with a small giggle.
“Why are you nervous?” You asked innocently.
It’s because of you, damn, Neteyam talking to himself. But he was too shy, to tell the truth, so he make up another answer, “It’s my first time learning about the spear. I always use my bow before. So it's a new thing to me,”
You gave him a reassuring look and said, “It’s okay. You must trust your feeling, Neteyam. But your feeling must be with no hesitation, like your grip on the spear,”
Your hands move to the spot on the spear where he grips it. Your hand grips the spear next to his, “Grip firmly like this. Understand?”
He nodded and tried to focus. Then you speak again about the foot and arm positions. He did all the things you taught him, and finally, he reached the circle, even though not hitting the dot in the middle. You grinned happily. “See, you can do it!”
“Yes,” he grinned too, “But I don't hit the dot,”
“It’s all right. Now let’s try again!” you pushed him, and he threw the spear again. Now he hit precisely on the dot, much better than before. You clapped your hands. “Perfect! You’re a fast-learner, Neteyam!”
He blushed upon hearing your compliment. “Thank you. I think it’s because you who teach me,” he winked then, and you laughed at his attempt to flirt.
“Smooth bro, smooth,” turns out Lo’ak heard that too and he smirks as he teases Neteyam.
“Focus on your lessons, baby bro,” Neteyam shushed him.
“Oh, I am really focused,” Lo’ak answered with a sarcastic tune. “At least my heartbeat is beating normally,”
“Lo’ak!” Neteyam shoved his brother on the sand. They both laughed, you and Tsireya too. Ao’nung shook his head in disbelief, but he smiles. Lo’ak and Neteyam tickled each other and they look like a teenager. Finally, they stood up again and Neteyam said, “All right, enough of the jokes. Let’s practice again, shall we?” He looked at you, and you nodded.
Suddenly, a man approached you. It’s Ihaka’s father. Ihaka is the baby you helped to cure weeks ago. He talked to you in a desperate voice, “Y/N, I’m sorry for bothering you. Ihaka is sick again and his condition is worse. Please, can you help him?”
“Of course,” You answered, and then turned to Sully’s son. “I'm sorry guys, it seems our lessons must end here. I have to cure Ihaka,”
“It’s okay,” Neteyam responded and he spoke again, “Can I come with you? Maybe I can help,”
You nodded, and then you said to Ihaka’s father, “I will gather all my equipment from my pod as fast as I can. Wait for me at your pod,” He bowed, then went back to his pod.
“Ao’nung, Lo’ak, can you call Tsahik and Olo’eyktan?” you instructed, “And Tsireya, go to the Ihaka first to reassure his family. Observe Ihaka’s conditions. I and Neteyam will go there in a glance after taking some equipment,”
They all nodded and parted.
You and Neteyam ran to your pod and gathered all the important equipment. Neteyam touched your tensed shoulders, “Hey, relax, Y/N. You can solve this,”
“Thank you, Neteyam. Actually, it’s me now who is nervous,”
He giggled, “You must trust your feelings then. Remember, no hesitation,”
You nodded and smiled at him.
You both enter Ihaka’s pod, as he is crying loudly, his suffering voice echoing throughout the pod. Tsireya is already there, her body bending over, covering Ihaka’s tiny body. She turned when hear our steps, and her face is horrified. “Sister, he is very weak. His breath is shuddering,”
“Okay, okay,” you take Ihaka from her hands, carrying his tiny body in your arms. Her parents were on the other side, their eyes seeking help.
Ihaka's breath is short, and he keeps coughing between his cry. Every time he cough, his skin became cold and clammy. You massage him to warm him up, but it seems not to work. You lie down Ihaka, gently lift his chin to open his airway and blow gently into his tiny mouth. His chest rose weakly.
A large stomp is heard as Tsahik and Olo’eyktan enter the pod, as they help you, observing Ihaka's chest. You keep giving breaths, again and again. But his chest isn't moving. Suddenly he was coughing hard, with blood outside his mouth, staining your fingers. His glances weakened, as his last breath slipped out his mouth.
"No, no," you began to panic, your fingers traced around his body, checking everything. But his heart isn't beating again. "This can't be happening!" Your eyes teared up in disbelief, this is the first time you failed to heal someone.
Your body fell limp, and you knelt down next to Ihaka. You began to sob. Ihaka's parents were horrified and his mom shouted in pain, causing your tears to fall harder.
"I'm sorry, I failed," it's all you can say.
Your parents try to comfort Ihaka's parents, as you feel a dark blue arm curled across your collarbone. Neteyam. He was sitting behind you, and he rubbed your shoulders gently, trying to calm you. He whispered some words, but you were too hollowed out by sadness.
Ihaka's funeral started a day after, as your parents led the ceremony. Tears couldn't stop falling down your cheeks, as both Tsireya and Ao'nung's arms are around you. Ihaka's body lay under the sea as you looked at your trembling hand. Is it truly the hand of the healer?
Ihaka's death traumatized you. After that day, you tried to look normal again, doing everything as usual. You find some peace in the loneliness, so most of the time you swim alone. Both of your siblings tried to cheer you up but still, you aren't truly rejoicing. Sometimes, your face looks sad and numb, and your dad catches that. So, he suggested you try meditating.

Tumblr media
It was daybreak when Neteyam walked slowly toward your pod. Morning lights barely touch the surface. He noticed that you weren’t anywhere to be seen lately. The thought of you always lingered on his mind, are you okay now? He rubbed his fingers as he arrived at your pod, but it was empty. He sighed, ready to walk back when suddenly a voice stopped him.
“You’re Sully’s eldest son, are you?” A shadow appeared, it was Tonowari, who came from the connecting part of the pods. His iridescent cape swings every time he moves. Seeing Olo’eyktan, Neteyam instantly brings his fingers to his forehead. Tonowari greets him back, and Neteyam answers his question.
“Yes, Sir. Pardon me, I was searching for Y/N,”
Tonowari's eyes narrowed, as his gaze fell on Neteyam’s figure, like scanning him head-to-toe. As Olo'ekytan, he always keeps an eye on his people, especially his family. So, he often found that you spend a lot of time with Neteyam lately. Maybe he can cheer you up? That idea slips into Tonowari’s mind as he speaks again.
“Y/N is still heartbroken,” Tonowari said, “I suggest her to try meditating, in a small bay near the Cove of the Ancestors. You can find her there,”
Neteyam nodded as he answered, “Thank you so much, Sir,” and left your pod. He called an ilu, and went to the Cove of the Ancestors. As usual, that place is astonishing. The morning sun shone brightly, and he raised his hand to shield his eyes.
His ilu kept swimming forward until he found a small bay, with your figures sitting cross-legged on the top of the rocks, hand resting on your lap, and eyes clenched shut. Your chest rises and falls with every breath you exhale.
An eclipse suddenly arose, highlighting the ivory freckles around your body, making your complexion sparkle, like pearls, causing Neteyam to stop as he admired your figure. He sighed. How do you always look so gorgeous all the time?
Although, now he noticed some differences in your features. Your hair is a bit messy, as some strands fell out on your forehead and your brows twitched, causing the tattoo on your forehead slightly folded. Even so, you still look majestic, just like Great Mother herself.
Your ears twitched as you hear the ripples of the water, and you open your eyes. Dark blue figures appeared, Neteyam. You realize that you haven't seen him in days. He looked slightly worried as he approached you slowly and asked.
“Hi, Y/N. Am I bothering you?”
“No,” you answered. Actually, you're quite pleased with his presence, and he sat beside you. A question slipped into your mind. “How did you find me?”
“Your Dad told me,” he answered.
Your dad? Your eyebrow furrowed. Why did he tell Neteyam? There is always a reason behind Olo’eyktan’s words, and he never told anybody about your meditation spot before. What is his aim to bring Neteyam here?
Neteyam spoke again, breaking the silence.
“How are you, Y/N? I haven’t seen you in a while, and I’m worried about you,”
“I’m fine,” you answered shortly and lowered your face, avoiding his eyes.
But he isn’t satisfied, as his gaze scans your face. He remembers everything about you, how your eyes light up when you’re excited, how your lips curled in a smile when you’re happy, or how your cheek blushes when you’re shy. It’s all painted in his mind. And now he knows very well, that you are not fine at all.
“Y/N,” he whispered softly, “Look at me,”
You lifted your face slowly and looked at him. The eclipse slowly disappeared, and Neteyam can see your face now under the sun. You look at him with misty eyes.
He asked again, “What do you feel right now, Y/N?”
You want to lie, but his amber gaze feels like a soothing breeze. On the contrary, your eyes began to tear up as you finally answered him. “I don’t know. Sad, angry, failed, disappointed? Everything. I tried meditating but it doesn't help much,”
Tears brimmed your eyes, and you wipe them as you stood up, turning your back on him.
“Just go,” you told him. You never looked so miserable in front of anybody before. “It’s my problem, not yours. I don’t want to burden you,”
Neteyam stood up, and he is now behind you. He steps forward.
“I remember somebody told me to not hide my feelings. She said, 'It's not good for me',”
Now he is in front of you. "And now, how can I leave her all alone?"
And that’s it. His words are like a key that opens all your emotions. Before you know it, you find yourself crying desperately in his warm embrace. His left hand caressed your back, while the other hand ran through your hair.
Although you've never been this close before to him, it feels like your body matches him perfectly. The height differences between both of you make your head rest on his chest, and his chin is on the top of your head. His musk scent filled up your nose. It was the first time you hugged each other.
This is so strange, the person to whom you can finally show your true colors is only him, the newcomer forest Na'vi. You've only known Neteyam for the past few weeks, but it seems an eternal flame has already been burning between you both. Many Metkayina men tried to court you before, but they never lit a fire in your heart.
But with Neteyam, it just feels so different. It feels so right to be in his arms, safe and sound.
You cry a river like you never cried before. “I failed to cure Ihaka. I’m not a healer,”
“Ssh,” Neteyam whispered, “It’s not your fault, Y/N. He is now with Eywa,”
You keep sobbing in his chest, when his fingers touched your chin, bringing your face to meet his gaze. He patted your head gently, then wiped out the tears from your cheek.
“Y/N. You’re not a failure. I saw everything you did to save him. You gave all the best you can do,” He smiled at you.
“Really?” You’re still gloomy, but your eyes are glued to his face.
“Yes. Listen to me, Y/N,” Now both of his hands cupped your cheek.
“I know that you’re hurt, but don’t let the past haunt you. You have to learn from it. And I believe you can do it, as you are the smartest, strongest, and bravest woman I’ve ever known,”
A smile slowly engraved on your lips. He can’t help but smiles too. Finally, he can see your smile again, after you've been so sad for the past few days. He knows that he would do everything to make you happy.
“How could you be so good with words? It's very different from that night when I saw you at the celebration,” Now your mood slowly boosts as you teased him.
Neteyam pinched your cheek in excitement, as he smiled sheepishly. “Well, after that night, Lo’ak spoke to me with a gripping tune and worried eyes. He said, ‘Hey bro, Dad will skin you soon if you still don’t know how to speak properly with girls’,”
You chuckled as you put your head again in his chest, your arms around his body.
“Thank you so much, Neteyam,” You pat his back.
His fingers are between your hair, and then he hugged you again, as his soft whisper met your ears.
“Don't worry, Y/N. I’m always here if you need anything,”

“This is crazy,” You spoke as you stepped toward Neteyam's ikran, as he was already sitting on it. His hand stretched out to you, and you held him, and sat behind him. You were afraid, but you admire the beauty of his ikran, with the green and yellow stripes on its body. When your gaze still lingered on his wings, suddenly it flapped and began to fly. You shocked, as your hand hugged Neteyam’s waist quickly.
“You skxawng!” you shouted in his ears.
Neteyam grinned. “Okay, okay, sorry,”
He stabilizes his ikran, and now glides in a straight line. But you weren’t mad at him anymore, as you saw the whole Awa’atlu under you. Your mouth parted in awe, you never flying before, and the whole village looks so beautiful, with the sea in the outer line like guarding fence. You close your eyes and feel the soothing wind.
But then Neteyam’s braid tickled you. You tried to brush it off, but then his braid from the other side flew too, and covered your entire face.
"Neteyam," you called out to him, but he didn't seem to hear you, and his hair was still flying around crazily.
"Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk'itan!" you called out to him again and he finally turned around, finding your pouted face.
"What is it, Y/N?"
“Get your damn hair, it's covered all my face,”
“Ow, sorry,” Neteyam tried to put all his hair to one side, but it didn't help much, it was like his hair has its own personality.
Seeing him struggle with his own hair makes you laugh. He looks so done with his own hair, and he lands his ikran. You still giggled, and he is confused.
"Why are you laughing?" He asked.
"It's you and your dramatic hair," you kept giggling, causing him to smile shyly. He feels warm when you laugh.
"Let's go collect some seashells! But we must take the pouch on my pod," you grab his hands and walk into the village. Tomorrow, your Tsahik training will begin again, and you want to spend all this day with Neteyam. He showed you his favorite thing to do, flying on his ikran. Now it's your turn, as you like to collect seashells on the sea.
When you both arrived at your pod, you laughed again when he told some jokes. Without your knowledge, your father peeked at the connecting part of the pod, as he smiled. Finally, he hears your laugh again. Then he went back to his pod.
You took the pouch on the table, and you were too excited as your hands accidentally nudged the sacred water, tsarki, inside its box. Luckily, Neteyam was fast enough to catch the box before it fell to the ground. Your eyes widened in shock, as you thanked him.
"Oh Eywa, thank you Neteyam,"
He put the box on the table again, as he realized that you were still stunned in shock. He approached you and touched your cheeks with his palm.
"Hey, relax Y/N. The tsarki is safe," and he caressed your cheek with his thumb. You sighed and nodded, then spoke.
"Tsarki is very important to me. I was born different from others, so my body is dependent on some sacred elements of the Metkayina tribe.  Tsarki is the healing water for others, but for me, it's like the blood in my body, the essence of my life. If the tsarki runs out, it will cause a horrible effect on my body," you stopped, as you looked into Neteyam's eyes.
"You save me again, Neteyam. Thank you so much,"
Neteyam smiled at you, but then he asked something. "No worries, Y/N. But you said tsarki is only one of Metkayina's sacred elements. What are the rest?"
"There's one plant, Red Seaweed, which is located on the Deep Trench near Three Brother's Rocks. But it was too dangerous to swim there, as it required different techniques of swimming. Only The Olo'ekytan is capable to swim there,"
He nodded. "Okay. The important point is, you are now here, safe and sound," A smile curled on his lips. His eyes then lightened, and he took a thing from the pocket hanging in his waist. It's a shining white pearl, and he gave it to you.
"It's from Kiri. She also noticed that you were sad lately, and she found this, thinking that maybe you'll like it. You were the one who consoled her when she was sad, and she wanted to give you a present," he informed, as you took the pearl. It was beautiful, especially under the sunlight.
You remember a few days ago when you found Kiri sitting lonely at the beach, seems so lost. You sat beside her and comforted her. And now, you're smiling as you said to Neteyam. "Kiri is such a sweet girl. Tell her my gratitude, this pearl is gorgeous!"
"Okay. Hmm, are we still going to collect the seashells? Or do you want to stay here and take a rest?" Neteyam asked.
You shook your head. "No. I want to get seashells. The view is breathtaking there, and I want you to see it," you grinned and in a glance, you both left your pod, walking side by side happily.

“How is the view?” you signed with your hands, asked Neteyam. Now, both of you are in the sea and the sight of bioluminescent marine plants and animals below you looks gorgeous, glowing in the darkness. You both wear the gill mantle that flows around like wings. You glided easily in the water, while he followed you behind.
"You're right. The view is breathtaking here," Neteyam moved his fingers, trying to reply to you. You smiled and swam closer to the group of seashells beneath you.
His gaze keeps glued to you, following your every moment. Your eyes sparkle like stars when you collect the seashells. It was at that moment that he realized something inside him. As time goes by, his feelings for you grew bigger, like burning flames in his heart. No, it’s not a silly crush or puppy love anymore. What he feels now is something deeper, more intimate.
And suddenly, there’s a movie inside his head, showing all his hidden wishes about you. He wants to spend every second with you, grow old with you. He wants to hug you on a cold night and give you morning kisses. He wants to hold your hand when you’re afraid or sad. He wants to touch you. Yes, he hugged you before, but he wants more. His desire for you will never fail.
Neteyam feels so lost, but in the right direction. You're the sun after a long winter, coming in blessing when he feels so tired due to all the pressure on his shoulder. You’re his safest place.
It’s like you bewitched him, and he doesn't have the strength to stay away from you anymore. All the wishes before turned into something stronger. Now, he doesn’t want you, he needs you. You are the source of his existence.
But a slight doubt crawled inside him. Do you feel the same way that he feels for you?
You turn around, realizing that he isn’t moving, instead just staying where he was. You make a sign with your hands. “Go down here, skxawng,” He swims towards you, as you show him how to collect the seashells. He picked up some and put it in the pouch. You smiled, although this is the first time he collected seashells, he was pretty good at it.
But then you smell something, and it comes from up above. You furrowed your eyebrows and signed to Neteyam, “Wait here. I want to check something on the surface,”, and he nodded.
You swam up, and the more you got closer to the top, the scent got stronger. When you reached the surface, you saw something horrible. You gasped in shock and your heart pounded. You swim back to Neteyam as fast as you can, as he notices the difference in your behavior. He signed, “Hey, what’s wrong?”
Your hand signed in trembling motion. “I saw something horrible, and I must tell my parents. Let’s go, we better hurry,” You released your gill mantle, and he did the same, as you both swim to the ilu.
You were so tense as you didn’t realize that your leg hit something. It was a small horned fish, with a striking color. It looked angry, and unbeknownst to you, he stabbed your thigh with his horn. You feel a sudden pain rising up in your thigh, and your eyes widen in shock at the sight of the fish. It is one of the venomous fish, and the sea Na'vi always avoids them because they have deadly venom inside their horns.
Seeing blood dripping from your thigh, Neteyam got panicked as put his arms around you, carrying you back to his ilu. He sat on it and he lay your body on his lap.
“Neteyam,” you spoke to him with a trembling voice. “Please, take me to my parents,” and after saying that, you fainted in his arms. His eyes widened as fear filled up his body. No, he can't lose you. He ordered his ilu to swim quickly.
When he reached Awa’atlu, he carried your body and ran toward the Olo’eyktan pod. As a forest Na'vi, he can run fastly, and make a rapid movement between the Metkayina people, leaving them gasping in shock. He passed his family pod, and the Sullys looked at each other with confused looks. Lo’ak then followed Neteyam.

Tonowari was sharpening his spear while his eyes found Neteyam carrying you. He narrowed his eyes, the difference in skin color between you and Neteyam somehow seems to complement each other, like black and white. Ronal who was inside the pod stepped forward when she heard Neteyam’s step. But then their face filled with fear as they found the wound and blood inside your thigh.
Neteyam approached them in hurry, and he spoke.
“Y/N is stabbed by a venomous fish. Please, help her,”
Your father instantly grabs your body from Neteyam’s arm and lay you down inside the pod, and your mom washed your wound. She also put a healing paste on your thigh. Luckily the wound was not too big, and the bleeding slowly stopped. Tsahik massaged your thigh to make the venom out, and it came out in a tiny drop. Your life is saved, but you’re still unconscious.
Outside the pod, Neteyam walked back and forth, looking so restless. Lo’ak found him, along with Tsireya and Ao’nung. Lo’ak asked, “Bro, what happened?”
Neteyam looked at them as he bite his lower lip frantically. “It’s Y/N. A venomous fish stabbed her in her thigh,”
All of them were shocked, and Lo’ak hold Neteyam’s hands, trying to calm his brother. The Metkayina siblings stepped inside the pod, helping the Tsahik.
Finally, Olo’eyktan walked outside and approached both Sully's sons. He spoke, “Thank Eywa, Y/N is saved. Tsahik removed all the poison from her body successfully. She is still unconscious, but she will wake up soon,”
Neteyam sighed in relief and Lo’ak smiled. Then Tonowari stepped toward Neteyam, now standing face-to-face with him.
Tonowari spoke again, and there is a softness in his voice.
“Neteyam, you save my daughter’s life. If you’re late, the venom will spread in her entire body. My family and I are so grateful to you. And I want to give you a gift. Is there anything you want? I will grant your wish,”
Neteyam shook his head, and he smiled when he talked. “No, Sir, it’s my responsibility. As long as Y/N is safe then I don't need anything else,”
Tonowari patted Neteyam’s shoulders. “Well then, I still owe you a wish,” Olo’eyktan smiled at him. “Now you can visit her inside,” and he entered the pod again.
Lo’ak eyes widened in disbelief after Olo’eyktan disappeared. He whispered, “Bro, please tell me how to get his heart.”
“Lo’ak, this isn’t the right time,” Neteyam rolled his eyes.
“Think of it, bro. We will have the same father-in-law!”
Neteyam ignored his brother and entered the pod. You were still lying down there, with your family around you. There is a bandage wrapped on your thigh. Your mom held your hand and your father was on the opposite side. Neteyam sat beside Tsireya and Ao’nung as they sang a prayer to Eywa. They all waited in silence when finally, they found your eyes squinted and slowly opened.
You found your mother smiling at you as she muttered praises to Eywa. Your father caressed your cheek, and both of your siblings rejoiced in happiness as they approached you, with a figure following them behind. It’s Neteyam, easy to catch him, as his skin looks different. He looked grateful with a smile on his face.
Your eyes then looked at your parents again, as you remember the horrible sight you saw before at the sea. Tears began to form in your eyes.
“What is it, Y/N? Why are you crying?” Your father asked.
“Dad, Mom. I saw something horrible at the sea today,” you answered, with a sad voice.
“What did you see?” Now your mom is speaking.
You looked at her and cleared your throat. You close your eyes and took a deep breath, then you open your eyes, ready to tell her the bitter truth.
“It’s Roa and her calf. They were killed, and their body is still floating in the ocean,”
