"It's bad luck for you to- oh," Hermione's voice caught in her throat. She closed her eyes, bowing her head as she caught sight of him in the mirror, the door to the bridal room clicking softly shut behind him. "You shouldn't be here," she whispered, feeling the tears threatening to spill over her lower lids and wash down her cheeks.
The slender, dark figure of Severus Snape, dressed in a finely pressed set of black dress robes swept across the small room, pausing just behind her. He stood at her back, a breath apart from her, so close that she could feel the heat from his body even though he wasn't touching her. "You look beautiful," he whispered. Hermione sniffled quietly, trying to keep the tears at bay as she forced her eyes open, looking upward into the reflection of the mirror to catch his gaze. "Please, Severus," she whispered. "Hermione," his voice was air and breath and nothing and everything. It sent a shiver chasing down her spine. The delicate lace of the pearlescent ivory gown clung to her figure; she was a picturesque goddess and the wizard that stood behind her a god; it was her wedding day. The perfect picture, him standing behind her, looking dashing and smart, and she a vision. Her lower lip trembled. "This should have been us," she murmured, feeling the tears slipping down the sides of her nose. She was no longer able to stop them. Severus held her gaze through the mirror, a redness rimming his own eyes, with a wetness of unshed tears glossy in the reflection. It pained her to see him and her heart was fit to burst. "I love you," she whimpered. "Always," he whispered. She closed her eyes, leaning her head back to feel him. The door to the bridal room swung inward and Hermione's eyes flashed open as she spun around, eyes wide, breath catching in her throat. "Are you all right, Hermione?" Ginny in a golden bridesmaid dress beamed at her from the door. "It's nearly time, Ron actually cleaned up pretty good!" she grinned. Hermione nodded her head, quickly dabbing the back of her hand against her eyes. "Just wishing-" she caught herself. "My parents," she said with a weak smile. Ginny shuffled into the room. "Oh, Hermione," and she carefully threw her arms around her. "I know," she squeezed Hermione tightly. "And it's not the same but you know Mum and Dad-" "I know," Hermione smiled sadly. "Give me just a minute to fix my makeup, yeah?" she said and nodded to her maid of honor. "Just a minute," Ginny teased and then stepped quickly back out of the bridal room. A heavy, trembling sob escaped her lips and Hermione turned to face the mirror once more. "It should have been us," she whispered, though she stood alone in her gown on her wedding day.

➡️ Content warnings on fiction are a courtesy.
➡️ Not every medium of fiction and storytelling has or is expected to have content warnings or extensive tagging.
➡️ Print novels do not traditionally warn for content in any way.
➡️ Until AO3 came along, fanfiction did not traditionally warn for content in any significant way.
➡️ An author is only obligated to warn for content to the degree mandated by the format they publish their fiction on.
➡️ Content warnings beyond the minimum are a courtesy, not an obligation.
➡️ ‘Creator chose not to warn’ is a valid tag that authors are allowed to use on AO3. It means there could be anything in there and you have accepted the risk. ‘May contain peanuts!’
➡️ Writers are allowed to use ‘Creator chose not to warn’ for any reason, including to maintain surprise and avoid spoilers.
➡️ ‘Creator chose not to warn’ is not the same thing as ‘no archive warnings apply’.
➡️ It is your responsibility to protect yourself and close a book, or hit the back button if you find something in fiction that you’re reading that upsets you.
➡️ You are responsible for protecting yourself from fiction that causes you discomfort.

Severus grunted, the air forced out of his chest as his shoulder blades slammed sharply back against the broom shed. He was already winded from his morning run; a full 12k because he’d started earlier than he’d anticipated and had found that the absence of his wife made him more inclined to exhaust himself in that fashion rather than pine for her while stroking himself in the middle of the night.
or
Hermione took his outstretched hand and with some difficulty, found herself hoisted up onto the back of the Thestral. She threw her arms immediately around his waist, as if making to squeeze the life out of him.
I'm shamelessly stealing this from twitter, but writers !! Quick, reblog with the last line or two that you wrote, no cheating.

THIS. Because Imposter Syndrome- constantly feeling like you don't know what you're doing, that you're not actually good at what you're doing, etc. IS REAL.
We don't need hoards of praise, to be showered with compliments, etc. We do like knowing that you're there. We love your questions, your quirks, your comments, your critiques, your support.
If you've always waffled on the line of "do I leave a comment" or "should I leave a comment" please cross it; real writers out there could be waiting to feel just that tiny spark of motivation, validation, acceptance, etc. And it could be your spark that lights the conflagration of their story.
That footsteps in the sand poem about god carrying you through your darkest times but it’s fic commenters

There's a new one for you... https://archiveofourown.org/works/53427286/chapters/135226510 It's dark. It tumbles down the rabbit hole of how those who love each other most can hurt each other worst. Very, very loosely taken from the line in the Maroon5 song "One More Night" 'You and I go hard at each other, like we're going to war. You and I get so damn dysfunctional we start keeping score.' When lines are crossed and moments of intimacy, trust, and vulnerability are used against one another to cause maximum damage because neither will back down... That notion of 'you were wrong and I'm punishing you for being wrong and now you're punishing me for punishing you and you wont' say you're sorry until I say I'm sorry but I'm not saying I'm sorry until you admit you were wrong.' And how deliciously toxic and destructive that can be. And the *hopeful* healing there after. Snape's beard is a major factor in this. So here's some yummy Alan-facial-hair inspo for eye-candy purposes.

Love me a fic that starts with the unresolved sexual tension already thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. I want my ship pining, yearning, and most definitely fantasizing.
I want their minds to wander to how hot the other person is, mid-sentence. I want them barely functioning because of all the hormones swimming through their brains. I want normally smart people who are downright dumb when faced with the smallest bit of barely revealed skin on the other person's body.
By the time they actually realize they're both in this state of tortured sexual desire, I want them to be at their wit's end and ready to flee the country in order to find the slightest scrap of control because there is absolutely zero control left when theyre in the same room together. They need to be scratching at the walls of their souls, they're so desperate for each other.
And when they do finally realize the fact that they're in this on-fire boat together? I want them to have incredibly hot, wildly cathartic (and not necessarily at-all realistic) sex that leaves them both exhausted, happy, and fully satisfied.
Unresolved sexual tension that gets completely fucking resolved, my beloved.
