Chapter 7: Anxieties and Skirmishes
In which MC and Sebastian fight some goblins, and Ominis witnesses the awesome power of MC's Ancient Magic.

“Clarke?” Ominis said after following the boy a ways away from Sebastian. “Earlier… it was you who saved me from that goblin, wasn’t it?”
After a brief pause, there was the familiar scratching of quill to parchment. Yes , Clarke wrote, his fingers calm enough to communicate.
“That magic,” Ominis pressed, “was no ordinary spellwork. It couldn’t have been.”
Thoughtful seconds passed before Clarke’s quill scratched again. No, it wasn’t. Professor Fig calls it “Ancient Magic.” What I can wield of it, anyway. It’s… not really something I know how to control yet. {...}
Did I frighten you? Clarke pressed. I know I must have. I couldn’t communicate with you, but I knew I had to act fast.
“I am grateful, if that’s what you mean.”
