I love romance novels because there is this tacit understanding that everything will be okay in the end. No matter what. Reading a romance novel feels like submitting your heart to the author, kneeling on the ground saying "take my heart. Break it, shatter it, ravage it, maul it, destroy it. Pull me apart but put me back together. I am yours for these hundred of pages. Put me in shambles but tell me everything will be okay." and I think that this is beautiful.

#reminds me of a rant I saw from someone getting annoyed how non-romance books are being classified as them #even without happy endings #which is literally against the genre definition #don't get me wrong #we don't always need happy endings #but those are not ROMANCES then #according to the definition #books

Both the hunger games before and now the ballad of songbirds and snakes proves that the young adult genre can produce some genuinely good storytelling while also examining social issues without talking down to its audience, which makes the ungodly amount of popular bad ya novels all the more embarrassing.
