#went in to do the bg and i was like #scooby doo 1969 gouache backgrounds….. #im meh at digital painting so its not quiiite there but it gets the job done #if it were a better take on sdway style itd be a bit more.. painterly? not messy but yeah messy lmao #then u put on a ton of effects to make it look like film from budget 70s traditional cel animation #the lines are a pretty far cry from scooby-doo and other cheap animation of the time #a little too textured and u dont see the solid blacks much at all in those older things #but #yknow

Do you have any tips for drawing rounder/fuller faces? I'm having trouble since they aren't as visibly structured in the same way say Spock and Bone's faces are. My little guys just look so visibly empty but they're just cherubs 😭

i totally get where you're coming from, i always approach drawing from a very structured point of view – the structure is still there with rounder faces, but its more about focusing on how the muscles move, how the face folds with different motions/expressions, and where/how fat deposits. still important thoughts when you're drawing faces like spock's and bones's but when the cheekbones or jaw are less sharp it becomes pretty important when defining the face. thats the thought process for me at least lmao heres a quick kirk n scotty for reference

of course drawing from life, drawing from references, etc is always gonna help and i very much suggest it. the more you draw them the more it makes sense

anj have u tried Prisma colour pencils bc i find 100,000 times better than Blick. they are expensive but its worth it To me

im guessing you saw the little spock i put on twitter? i was just at blick yesterday w my friends lmao honestly i dont really use colored pencils, i just like drawing on the little test paper – but ill keep that in mind if i ever want to use colored pencils!!

Goddam, goddam , goddam! I love your art style! How did you settle on it? Was it a breaking the characters down into shapes? Did you just start drawing this way? Any tips for developing a style? I mean I'm so in love with it, I would marry it if I could.

thank you, i really appreciate that!! i cant say i ever really settled on a style? it wasn't really something that i decided upon – even still, things change a lot. over time though, things do become more ingrained into muscle memory in my experience if youre consciously trying to develop a "style" its not gonna happen, you just have to draw what you like how you like and it'll become a style of its own along the way. i like when hands are drawn real squared off, so thats how ive drawn hands!! i like hard shapes and angles, and it feels more right to draw them than organic shapes, so whats what i draw. if you like an aspect of a style, try it out! in my experience art is nothing if not a frankenstein of each of your artistic influences lmao

i dunno if my art style can sign marriage papers but the sentiment is both understood and appreciated o7

How did you get so good at anatomy yours is genuinely so so good

thank you, i really appreciate that !! even though i simplify a lot of shapes and make things a bit cartoony i am a big fan of anatomy and physiology.. i just think its neat……

things that have helped me get the hang of it:

learning the relationship between the skeletal system, the muscular system, and how they interact to make you move

going out anywhere and sketching people from life – they dont have to be any good, just the action of doing some quick sketches helps you get a feel for the shapes. i have so so so many awful sketches but thats just part of it lmao

getting really invested in media and making a shit ton of fanart helps because it gives you a ridiculous amount of practice sdksj

once you kind of get a feel for it you can mess around with it. im definitely not the authority on anatomy and i put shape/flow over accuracy a lot of times, but just. same as every skill, an absurd amount of practice will always make for improvement
