"We can't let this go on forever Q and you know that" Gally whispered yelled, a look of desperation painted across his face. He appeared to be younger, a youthful face without the stress marks he has today.
“We are safe here Gal. Wicked keeps us fed and protected, out of the maze.” I hissed, turning around with bloodshot eyes, again we wore white clothes that covered our frames.
"They're sending us out for a slaughter, where do you think Minho went? You only found out about the maze a month ago Quinn, I've known my whole life. I know what they do to our friends, and you want to stick for them?" He said accusatory, his heart betrayed.
All I could do in response was to walk away, walking away from my problems was the only thing I knew how to do as a solider. Gally grabbed my wrists and pushed me against the wall, his hand wrapped around my neck.
"Do you know, what's behind those walls? What you, what we helped design?" With every sentence he implied on, he applied more and more pressure onto to my neck and stopped my airways.
His face started to blister and bleed, his eyes warping in black and veins grew across his face and exposed skin. His hair fell off in clumps from his skull like meat sliding off the bone. Black goo started to ooze from his mouth.
"Gally, let her down." Slowly, dressed in black he rounded the corner. Gally immediately let my neck go and stepped away in intimidation. He was back to normal.
"I think it's time you and I had a little talk." He said to gally, before turning to me. "Wake up."
I shot up out of my bed, covered in sweat and tears streaking down my face from pooling in my face dents. "Q?" Newt softly opened my door, his tone concerned and groggy like he had just been woken up.
“Yea, I'm sorry did I wake you?" My voice was breathy and broken, but I was still worried for his well being.
"No, no I was," He yawned in between his sentence, "I was awake." Newt rubbed his eyes and leaned on the doorframe.
"What's up with you? Nightmare?" He questioned, his eyebrows contorting.
I paused, how could I phrase this? My 'nightmare' felt too real to be a dream my subconscious had mustered up, this was different.
"I don't know.. Maybe." He looked confused, looking around my room.
"May I?" He gestured to the side of my bed that was empty. "If you'll fit." | joked, knowing full well he could. He chuckled tiredly and flopped onto my bed on his back.
"Yea I bet Gally doesn’t have that problem." Newt muttered into his sleepy state and smirked, my face reddening and I immediately slapped him right on his chest.
"You're not funny." I pouted, crossing my arms and turning on my side to look at him. Newt was pretty, he looked younger than his age and although he's been through years of stress, his smile relentlessly grew bigger than the last.
"Newt?" I stared at him, He turned his head to meet my eyes. "Yeah?" He questioned.
"Who are you? I don't know much about you and I'd consider us good friends." I said softly.
Newt turned to look away, a far off look in his eyes that I'm sure matched the stars in the sky outside.
He quietly let out a sigh and looked back at me. "Good question shuck, I'm honestly not too sure how to answer that." He laughed once and let his smile make the bigger statement, it spoke louder than his words.
He was confused, shit we all were. "When did you get here Newt?" I babbled, keeping the conversation going. "Well," He paused. "About... two years ago?" He fiddled with his skinny fingers.
"I was one of the first on the Glade, it was hard." He nodded, "We weren't as far along as we are now, supplies were limited, and I was timid." Newt turned and fully faced me. "Without Alby," He chuckled sadly, "We probably wouldn't have survived."
It was weird, seeing Newt not as strong as he usually is. When he spoke of his past, I could tell while he spoke for everyone, something happened to him.
“Is that why you have a limp?” i asked with no i’ll intent, but he froze up and stared at me.
“Uh yeah,” he stuttered and looked down. “I stepped into a hole and broke my ankle, at the time we didn’t have med jacks and we had work we needed done.”
He spoke confident, without a crack or imperfection in his voice. “No breaks, huh?” trying to lift the mood, I smiled and bent my head down to meet his eyes.
His grin slowly matched mine, and he pushed my head away. “Your breathe stinks.” He laughed and groaned.
I giggled and pushed him as well. “Ok ok, serious question. You ready?” I got up and hovered above him from his side.
Newt laughed, “I guess?” I clapped my hands together, “Alright, why is a shuck like you, so dimmed to my womanly charms?” I giggled.
Spit flew from Newts mouth as he immediately started to laugh harder than l've ever seen him do. I laughed along too, admittedly more confused than carefree.
Eventually, he laughed so hard that he started coughing and he sat up from his position to control his breathing.
"Quinn," His laughter slowing down to chuckles, "I'm going to tell you something that you can't tell anyone, got it?" He grinned as he leaned over his shoulder to make eye contact. "Got it." I grinned and put my hands behind my head.
"I." he paused, subconsciously questioning himself, "I like men." He confessed, dropped it like a bomb.
Slowly my hands removed themselves from under my head and I pushed myself up.
"Newt I," I started but he interrupted, "Its fine, if you don't.. y'know it's ok." He rabbled and looked down at his hands. I grabbed his hands and put them in my lap.
"What I was going to say, was I'm so happy for you." He blinked, cautious. I gave him a look of reassurance and he immediately let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank shanks, this would've been incredibly awkward if not." He chuckled and laid back down, I followed him and laid on my side.
"So, any competitors?" I asked, pushing my fingers through his hair. "Pft, not even close Q. Everyone here is straighter than a razor. You'd think there'd be some, but nope." He said groggily, the sensation from the hair rubbing relaxing his nerves.
"Welp.. there's always fish in the sea." I said, as tired as he was. Nothing was said after that, the sound of the crickets outside and my warm blankets created a comfortable atmosphere.
"Can I stay here tonight Q?" Newt muttered out, his eyes already closed. I considered the option for a moment.
"Sure Newt." | whispered, letting him wordlessly snuggle into my sheets and make himself comfortable.
“Night Quinn.” Newt murmured, a smile growing on my face. “Goodnight Newt.”
——-————————————————————————
Heavy breathing echoed throughout the area, the door I walked towards in uniform grew bigger each step I made. The floors around me were stark white, so was everything else.
There were a few exceptions to the headache inducing white shade that plastered every surface, and that was the electric blue windows highlighted in a neon blue light.
My hand lifted infront of me, the long sleeved shirt covered up to my knuckles. I pushed the door open, The room inside was dark and filled with motherboards. The whole room illuminated in the electric blue that the windows had.
"Quinn you made it." I turned my head to meet the voice, He was tall, his hair was borderline black and his eyes a light brown.
"You said you needed to talk." I implored, walking further into the room. "I did it Q" The guy smiled nervously, biting his lip.
I paused, confused. "You did what?" I reiterated, wondering where this was going. "I got Cooper's contact." His grin grew even bigger with pride.
"Thomas, you didn't." I stuttered in disbelief. I felt scared, paranoid even. My hands flew to cradle my head, feeling lightheaded.
"No no Quinn, do you know what this means?" He jumped over to me, grabbing both of my hands and lifted my head to meet his eyes.
"I could give them all the information they need." He said firmly, the nervousness he felt before was quickly gone and was instead replaced by a sensation I couldn't describe.
"This is dangerous, Thomas." I said slowly, glaring into his hazel eyes. His eyebrows quirked in confusion.
"No, this" he swayed his arms around us, "Is dangerous, Quinn. God, can't you see it?"
He looked hurt, his chest started heaving heavier and heavier and he aggressively rubbed his hands in his hair.
"Thomas, believe me, I am scared. They took so many of our friends. Alby, Minho, Newt." I emphasized the base of my pain.
"But that won't stop me from fighting in different ways. I fight for Jansen because I fight to keep myself safe. That's the most important thing we can do for them, for us." I reasoned.
"You just don't get it Quinn." He looked defeated, " know-" Screams across the halls interrupted us, the doors bursting open and thousands of hands picked and pulled at me.
I yelled for help. Thomas was surrounded by guards.
I was taken away.

A few weeks went by in the Glade and ultimately I had been chosen as a Builder. Although we worked together, there wasn’t much speaking happening between me and Gally.
Everytime I figured we were going to address the situation, he would order me around like I was any other Builder that worked under him. He was actively avoiding me.
Outside of “work”, I didn’t have much to do in my very little free time. I did however make a few good friends. Elijah was a slicer, however his job was primarily to raise the livestock.
Elijah was tall, strong and his locks were a messy dirty gold color. "You busy today Eli?" His back faced me, he was planted on a stool, caring to one of the Glades many sheep's.
"Yeah sorry Q, Winston has us doing double time." He turned around on his chair, he beamed at me while giving me the bad news.
"Boring, can't those shanks give you a break," I walked along the wall of the shed, touching and playing with various tools.
"Aren't you supposed to be building... Y'know, as a builder?" He chuckled, turning back and putting his attention into the animal.
"Yeah, well Gally's in a mood, just yells incoherent nonsense and expects a corporate office." Bending down, I grabbed one of the piglet and held it into my chest.
"Soo you came to bother me instead of your job?" Elijah turned and smirked at me, hanging off his chair with a brush in his hand.
I rolled my eyes and put the piglet down. "You've never minded my company," I softly stated, "I just can't handle him when he doesn't want to talk to me." I had walked over to his stool, grasping his locks with my fingers, brushing and braiding.
Over time, while spending it with Elijah, we grew close. Our relationship was strange, we had already developed nicknames for one another and were comfortable with friendly physical touch.
"And how's that going for you?" His tone softening from the teasing, enjoying the sensation of the mini head message.
"He's infuriating, It's always his way or no way." By this time, I had my own stool and I spent my time taking my nerves out on Eli's hair.
"I mean, every time I get any percentage of close to starting a conversation, he just changes the subject to work," I babbled, "Ever since the 'almost kisses' and him becoming my keeper, he's completely belittled my existence." | dropped my hands in frustration.
"Wasn't he doing that before hand?" He raised his eyebrows in genuine question, turning his head to look back at me. I slapped the back of his head and he ducked out, holding the spot I hit.
"Ow!" He sassed at me, "You have no brain cells Eli." | stood up from my stool and walked back to the piglet.
"Are you interested in that pig?" He stood up aswell, The sheep being well groomed and ready for sheering.
I shrugged, she was cute. "I don't know, I like her spots." I smiled down at the piglet, she was a white pig with black spots, it particularly tickled her snout.
"Take her." He suggested, shrugging like it was such a casual offer. "Woah Elijah, I can't just take a pig. What, What would I even do with her?" The said pig bounced around and made little squeaks as her tail danced around.
"I don't know, probably give her a better life than we could, y/know, unless you're into eating your pets." He chuckled and I grimaced.
"Even if I did take her, what would I even do with her?" I questioned, watching her run around and squeal. "Keep her here, I’ll take care of her for you." He persisted.
What if the Glade needed this adorable, cute pig? "You promise it's not a big deal?" I wanted to make sure we wouldn't become a problem for him.
"Quinn, I promise from my death bed, that l'll take care of that pig," He smiled, "No questions asked." He scooped her up, gently placing her into my arms.
My face contorted in the sweet gesture, "Thanks Eli," I hugged him hard with an umph, his arms slowly wrapping around me securely.
"Anytime Q." He whispered into my hair. I pulled away and he kept his gaze on my eyes, running down to my lips. "What're you going to call her?" He asked softly, eyebrows raising.
" think I'll name her Sadie, cute right?" I looked down the pig in my arms. "Beautiful." His arms were still wrapped around my waist, gaze never leaving mine.
"Am I interrupting something?" Jesus can I just have one moment without someone walking in? I separated from Elijah's touch, him being more hesitant.
"Gally, I was just-" I hesitated, "Getting back to your post? You've been gone for over thirty minutes." He accused, his body looked tense and I knew I was in trouble.
"Right." I retorted, "I'Il see you later Elijah." I handed Sadie back to him, He looked down at me feeling sorry for me. I walked past Gally wordlessly, shoving my shoulder into his as I made it out of the shed.
Right in the middle of the Glade, Gally grabbed me by my upper arm and pulled me towards him. "What were you doing." He pressed angerly, "What does it matter to you Gally?” I spat his name out like venom, having enough of his attitude.
He scoffed, making random noises instead of answering my question. I scoffed, "Typical." I started to walk away, but his grip on my arm tightened and he pulled me back.
He did what I never thought he could do, He kissed me.
He grabbed me by the back of my head and placed his hand on my hip, smashing his lips into mine. All the tension we had evaporated in that one moment, that soft moment.
His lips moved in synch with my movements, his lips soft and wet. He pulled away slowly, our eyes still closed and the sounds of our breathing accelerating. I was so awestruck; I couldn't mutter a word.
He pulled away quickly, eyes shot up in shock and he removed himself from my body. “You just kissed me.” I gasped, feeling the tingle of my lips fade away.
“Yeah I did.” Gally was also shocked by his actions. Although the situation we’re in forces us to act like adults, we’re still children at heart.
“I have to go.. I’m super busy right now.” I stuttered out and ran away from Gally, and heart pacing out of my chest.
I left him there, I didn’t know what to say to him after that. It was everything I’ve wanted since i’ve been here and I just ran.
“Woah woah, why are you in a rush?” Newt stop in front of me, concern splat on his face as my breathing accelerated.
“He kissed me, he kissed me like on the lips and I just ran away I didn’t know what to say-“ I rambled fastly, “Quinn calm down, take a breath. What happened?” He looked me in the eyes with concern.
“Gally and I kissed in the middle of the Glade.” I finally said to him, His form was taken aback.
“Well good goin y’a shank, even if it’s with Gally but good goin.” He was proud of me, I don’t know why it didn’t feel right when I felt like I’ve been in this situation before.
I took a second to think about what had happened in the last few weeks. So much tension, to none at all, and finally to a kiss that’s been long overdue. It felt good.
“Yeah I, I guess I should be happy.” A smile grew on my face and Newt patted my back. “He kissed me.” I giggled out and and bit my lip.
Newt grimaced and shoved me into a bush. “Don’t be gross klunk.” Newt left me in the bush a walked away, how fucking rude.
“You look like a fucking muppet.” I muttered and picked myself out of the bush.
“We kissed.”

A Gally Fanfic; Chapter 3
The Tension
Tumblr media
Summary - Quinn Abigail Allen is the first female ever to grace the presence of the Glade. At first the tensions between her and keeper Gally are high, the enemies to lovers trope creeps through her life. Will she give into the trope? Or will she chose the love triangle?
Warnings - Maybe smut in different chapters or hints of sexual activity. Fluff! Angst! I am definitely not a good writer!
The next morning I woke up in my hammock, head pounding from the night before. “Rise and shine cupcake, it’s time to start our day.” Newt passed through the hammocks, chipper as ever this morning.
“Leave me alone please, I still need brain cells to understand your illiteracy.” Groaning I put my arm over my eyes and rolled to my stomach.
“C’mon Quinn you’re starting in Building today, and Gally’s a sucker for good attendance.” I could hear his footsteps walk around my hammock, fixing and tying loose ends here and there.
“Well you can tell that shank beauty rest is important.” I muttered, “heavens knows he needs it.” I snuggled back into my warm blankets.
“What did you say about me?” Suddenly my warm blanket was ripped from my body and I was rolled onto the ground. I landed on the dirt with an umph.
“Aren’t you just a sweetheart” I mumbled, rubbing the dirt off my scuffed hands that i landed on to catch my fall.
“Get up my lady, Gally waits for no one.” He scoffed out, his way of speaking makes me dumber and dumber by the second.
“First of all, don’t call me that. Second of all, did you just speak in what, the third person?” I glanced up at him, my face contorting in disgust at his presence.
“Whatever, let’s go hurry up.” Newt waved at me in condolences as Gally dragged me away. He grabbed me by my arm and walked fastly back to his post as keeper. Along the way I almost trip a couple of times, his legs were so much longer than mine and he towered me a good foot or so.
“So greenie, what we do as builders is we gather supplies and we build off of those supplies,” He directed me towards the different stations, showing me how everything worked.
“Haven’t we already established that I have a name?” I huffed out, I’m not a greenie anymore, I’m Quinn. One thing Ive learned about Gally, was his need to always be stubborn.
“Sorry my lady, shalt I fetch thy some refreshments.” He spat as he curtsied teasingly, what a dick. I pushed him down to his ass and stood over him.
“Earth is full, go home freak.” I spat directly at his left eye. He groaned and cussed, he grabbed my ankle and pulled me down. At this point, we were causing a scene and other people started to pay attention.
“You’re the freak, what’re you even doing here? this is a maze full of boys, you don’t belong here.” He said accusingly, he had a point but he needed to stop being such a dick. I didn’t ask to be here.. I don’t think?
“Hey! Break it up you two,” Alby came running over. “Whatever tension you both have needs to be set aside, you’re both,” he emphasized, “Acting like shanks.” he stared at us both.
“Well?”He asserted. Sighing in frustration, Gally and I held our hands out to shake. My heart jump a notch when his came into contact with mine, his hand was rough and callused from building for so many years.
The contact between lasted a second or two longer than needed, the action going unnoticed, hopefully. “Good, now get back to work everyone. Nothing to see here.” Alby dismissed everyone and back to work we went.
“So, what’re we working on today?” I questioned, seemed like there was a big project going on from how particular Gally was when he yelled at the builders.
“Well Quinn, we’re building you your own special room in homestead.” He was annoyed, why would he be annoyed?
“I don’t need my own room, i’ve got my hammock, real cozy.” I danced on my feet, swinging back and forth. I felt embarrassed that they were making me my own area.
“Alby’s orders, said a lady shouldn’t sleep with a bunch of hormonal boys that haven’t seen a women in their lifetime.” He bickered with me on my own area. If it was from Alby, I guess I had no say. I should have one though. I nodded along in acknowledgment.
Wordlessly, he picked up an axe and handed a smaller one to me. My eyes grew a bit in confusion and I grabbed the axe, and followed him in silence as he led me to wherever.
“This, is the deadheads. It’s where we bury dead Gladers and get our wood from.” He mumbled out as we walked over to a tree and started to chop away.
“Should I uh.. Should I cut too or?..” I stuttered confused at what I should be doing. Annoyed, he looked up at me like I was dumb and continued.
I scoffed in disbelief again, “Alright dude, what is your problem with me?” I slammed my axe into a tree stub. His grasp on his axe tightened and I could see his back tense. He stood in silence for a few moments.
Out of no where, he dropped his axe and stomped towards me, and backed me into a tree. Gally punched the open tree space by my head and got close to my face, glaring into my eyes.
“I know you, I don’t know how I know you but I do and I can’t get you out of my head” He said this so softly but venomously.
“You,” He grabbed my hand and placed it on his chest, “Do things to me that I don’t like.” His heart was racing, I felt so out of place and confused that mine started racing faster than usual.
There was no other statements, my breathing grew shallow and I traced my eyes to look at both of his. Out of my mind, I let my gaze drop down to his lips.
The only thing you could hear were the chirps of birds in the trees and the shallowness of our breathing, I could feel his on my nose.
Slowly, I let myself get closer to him, lifting my back off of the tree and placing my hand softly on his cheek.
“What are you doing.” He sounded scared, but he never moved or turned away from me. His face grew softer and red, his freckles darkening from the hue.
I closed my eyes and leaned in, our foreheads making contact. “Now what do we have here?” Newt’s voice was so loud, we immediately jumped away from one another.
“Uh I was just,” Gally paused pointing at the axes, “He was teaching me how to chop the wood.” I nervously played with the small twine of string I had wrapped around my finger.
“Ah yes, morning wood.” Newt smirked at his joke, Gally muttered frustratingly and walked off in a heat. He left me to deal with Newt, typical.
I coughed off the energy, “I should.. finish getting this wood.” I turned around and started awkwardly looking at the trees and picked up my axe.
“Oh, so that wasn’t a metaphor for something else? Could’ve fooled me Quinny.” He was relentless, Newt seemingly wasn’t going to drop the topic anytime soon.
“It wasn’t anything Newt.” please please please drop it, this had to be one of the most embarrassing things i’ve ever been caught for.
“Don’t think I didn’t catch how long that handshake was either, and the suffocating tension the two of you had at the bonfire.” He started to walk around, picking up this and that as I chopped my wood.
“Ok and so what? I’ve been here for two days it meant nothing.” I brushed him off, gathering my wood and starting to head back to the Builders.
“Oh come on Quinn, You have to be blind if you don’t notice that he’s into you.” He jogged up by my side and I was coming to the conclusion that he wasn’t going to let it go.
Heat rushed up from my neck to my face, he wasn’t into me, that’s just ridiculous. “Whatever Newt, He’s Gally,” I said in distaste, “and I’m.. well I’m me.” I shrugged and dropped the wood by Homestead.
The sun was blazing and my tight ripped pants were making me sweat. “Newt, get back to your station.” Alby yelled at him from across the field, my savior.
“This conversation isn’t over Quinny,” He emphasized, “I mean it” He said, jogging backwards until he turned around and picked up his pace.
“I’d rather be caught dead” I muttered, taking a rubber band and putting my long hair into a ponytail. At some point in the day, I can’t tell time, my room in homestead had been built.
We built dressers, light jars, and different things I didn’t know was possible. The last thing was the bed frame, and my mattress was no tempur-pedic. The mattress was made from various feathers, grass, cottons, etc.
The bed frame only need two people to build it, so Gally dismissed the rest of the Builders to go work on other projects. It gave us the room, it left us alone.
“Hand me the plank please.” Gally asked softly, his demeanor was still rough but he was different. “Sure.” I huffed, neither of us made eye contact as I handed him the wood but our hands would briefly touch in the process.
“This silence is killing me, you know that right.” I leaned onto one of my dressers, watching his back muscles move and stop when I spoke up.
He turned around and faced me, I forced the eye contact. “I don’t know what you mean.” He ignored my under line question, picked a tool up and continued.
Sighing, I scoffed to the side and lined the inside of my cheek with my tongue. I picked up a tool too and walked over to help. I stood right next him, my leg rubbing against his.
“What’re you doing.” He stopped and asked me again, he loves to ask me that doesn’t he. I feigned innocence, “I’m helping you, that’s my job isn’t it?” I questioned through my eyelashes.
“I’d be damned if you ever made it as a builder.” He scoffed, continuing his work and keeping the contact we had on our legs.
“Ah but you would like that wouldn’t you? me and all my distractions?” I said seductively, my only intention was to tease but it seemed like i got under some skin.
“Jesus Quinn, would you give it a rest.” He called me by my name, not only that but he was fidgety, his adams apple bobbing and his tone was shaky. Gally was nervous.
I giggled, giggled “Stop slacking off and help make my bed.” I teased him, picking up the other end of the heavy post with ease. He was shocked at my apparent muscle mass and came over to carry the other side of the post.
“Please it down over here.” He quided me over to where the rest of the bed was, the soft light from the light jars made him look soft, his freckles softer on his face.
“You have a nice face.” I casually stated, looking down to pick up a tool. Crash, he dropped his s’aide of the post.
“Can you mess off greenie, l'm trying to do my work.” He was upset but that didn't stop his face from reddening and it definitely didn’t stop my grin from forming.
"I'm trying to do my work too; you should really stop distracting me." I bantered with him, the look on his face making me enjoy being a Builder
He grabbed my chin and backed me into my dresser. "I've had enough Quinn, you need to knock it off.” He professed. It was such a shame the both of us were so stubborn.
“And if I don't?” I asked softly, whispering in his face. His eyes glased over; he gave that look again. His eyes repeatedly traced from my lips back to my eyes. Is demeaner was strong but his silence asked me a burning question.
"It's okay.* I said, catching on to his question on whether or not I wanted this. And like in the Deadheads, we got closer, forehead to forehead, shallow bresthing to shallow breathing.
His hand moved from my jaw to the back of my neck and his other hand cupped my waist. It was happening
“Ok we really need a system.” Newt had caught us again.
"Jesus Newt, can’t you learn how to knock?" He leaned against the door frame. Just like last time, me and Gally flew apart, the awkward energy taking its toll again.
"Well love, it's not like you have a door yet innit?" Newt smirked from his position, he was having so much fun being a total cock block
"You're uh bedroom is done" Gally growled awkwardly, clearly feeling the same about Newt in this moment that I had. "Right right. I'I see you later?" I asked him, hinting something deeper in my words.
"Uh yeah maybe" He nodded towards me, his lips clenched together in a long line. "Newt” he acknowledge as he walked out. Newt nodded and winked in his direction.
"I really hate you, you know that right." I flopped down onto my new bed. The mattress wasnt as bad as I had previously thought it would have been. "C'mon Quinny, you could never hate me, you need me." He flopped onto my bed aswell laying next to me as we turned to look at eachother.
"Good night Newt." I protested, Exhausted from working so hard and going through Gally’s mood swings. "Night shuck" He patted my head, Pulling a couple of blankets he brought with him over me.
"Put that door on the hinges on your way out please." I mumbled out in a hurry, I didn’t want to be watched as I slept.
He chuckled before walking out.

In The Garden
a Gally Fanfic; Chapter 2
The Bonfire
Tumblr media
Summary - You, The reader, are the first female ever to grace the presence of the Glade. At first the tensions between you and keeper Gally are high, the enemies to lovers trope creeps through your life. Will you give into the trope? Or will you chose the love triangle?
Warnings - Maybe smut in different chapters or hints of sexual activity. Fluff! Angst! I am definitely not a good writer!
Hollers of celebration filled the air as the boys surrounded the pit. “Tonight, we honor a new greenie, a girl!” The boys around Alby shouted in salute to my existence, it made me giggle and holler in acknowledgment.
“Light it up!” the stakes they all held were thrown into the fire and the wooden statue lit up so bright. The feeling it gave me was exhilarating, everyone cheered on and smiled through their conversations.
“Fun right? it’s like the family you got stuck with.” newt slid down to my side, a jar of suspicious yellow liquid in his hand.
I turned and looked at his boyish smile, “ I wouldn’t say it’s my happiest moment, I once found ten pounds in my pocket and it was amazing.”
He laughed, “How do you remember that and not your name.” He leaned in closer.
“I’m lying out of my ass.” I giggled and grinned, his matching mine from ear to ear. “You’re really something, aren’t you greenie?” He got closer and I could feel his breath on mine.
“I don’t remember being told so, so I’ll take your word for it.” I pulled away from the moment, feeling shy out of my mind and eager to change the topic.
“So, do I want to know what the hell is in that jar?” I said, grimacing down at that suspicious jar of liquid again.
Newt beamed and offered the jar in my direction. “Want to try it? It’ll knock you off your boots and take the edge off.” he swished the liquid around to try and make it more appealing
The jar made me nothing but uncomfortable, Newt swished the jar at me again with a stupid smile plastered on his face. it probably wasn’t even that gross so I took the jar from his hands and took a swig.
Immediately I gagged and swallowed the substance as hard and fast as I could as Newt completely laughed his ass off at my choking.
“Oh my fuck what the hell is that?” I coughed so hard I couldn’t breathe. “Can’t handle your alcohol newbie?” God I could wipe that grin off his british mug.
“Yeah well I was going to give you a nasty look but I see you already have one.” I choked off my words as he laughed out again. “Please greenie I’m beautiful, you just can’t hold your own.”
“Ok get up, there’s a few people I want you to meet.” Newt stood to his feet, exhaling his laughter as he he reached his hand out to help me up from my seat on my log.
Newt walked me over to multiple groups, introducing me to everyone of them. He told me that starting tomorrow I will work in every department to see where I fit best. Hopefully I won’t have to bust my ass to prove myself.
The group gathered in a circle behind us, was this another part of the bonfire? “Cmon let’s go check it out.” Newt lead me towards the circle, letting us have front seats to the show.
It was brutal, in the middle was none other than Gally and he looked.. so good. If I didn’t have a vendetta against eyebrows i would definitely say the warm light of the fire kissing his skin made him look knee bending. But of course why would I ever say that.. where would my self respect be?
“Gah!” he threw the other guy out of the circle with an ease of a grunt, like the weight was nothing to him. The crowd around us cheered him on yada yada, is this why his ego is so massively inflamed? Someone oughta put him on his ass.
“See, this is a game we play every bonfire, if you remember our rules i told you earlier you’d remember no glader can physically hurt each other. The point of this game is to push the other bloke out of the circle. Currently however, that shuck is undefeated.” Newt pointed towards Gally as he stalked around the circle, looking for his next pray.
His eyes locked on mine, and a one sided smirk crept onto his face. His pace around the circle stopped and he lift his finger to point at me.
“Greenie! Come, show us what you got.” Everyone around us oohed and laughed as I looked towards Newt who shrugged.
“Gally.” Alby gave him a look. “What i’m not gonna hurt her.” Gally brushed off his warning and turned his attention toward me.
“What, too chicken? Too scared little girl?” The word girl sos off his tongue like venom, his tone was threatening and i so needed to gouge his pretty eyes out.
All I had to do was kick his ass out of the circle, that should be easy enough.
I stomped one foot into the circle, “Please, you’ll never be the man your mother was.” This had him going. The reaction from the crowd combined with his embarrassment, you could see the smoke spilling from his ears.
“Alright greenie, rules are simple. I try to push you out of the circle, and you try not to cry like a girl.” Gally smirked at me, his stance widening as he grounded himself.
If looks could kill, he’d be ebliterated. Huffing, i waited for him to make a move. The guy was a big but he was such a bigot.
He grunted as he sprinted at me, arms held out to grab me but I ducked. Last minute I darted quickly under his arms and ran behind him, sliding to the ground to carry me out of the way.
He turned around prepared, but I swept my legs below his, knocking Gally to the ground. He got up quicker than he was on the floor and was back to strategizing. He ran towards me, barreling in a heat of rage to catch me.
this time he caught me and took me down with him. I struggled but i got him on his back. The crowd roared as I slid my legs on his sides and pinned him down. "Not bad for a girl, huh?" I smirked, huffing at his defeat. His eyes glazed over, and he placed his giant hands on the sides of my thighs.
"Yeah, but you haven't won yet." And he flipped us over, so he was on top. The both of us were winded, our chests heaving in synch and the eye contact was heavy. it felt like people were maving slowly, the cheers drowning out. "C'mon Greenie!" I reached my hand up slowly, placing it on the side of his jaw.
His movements faltered and his gaze grew softer. A smirk grew on my face, I got him right where I need him. I quickly slammed his head to the ground next to our bodies. I grabbed his shirt and successfully kicked him out of the circle.
The Crowd cheered me on, screaming my glade given name. Being in the center of cheers like this felt normal, I was used to being in the center like this with my arms up and the energy boosting my ego.
"C'mon Quinn, get his legs!" The trainer paced across the training mat as me and another person wrestled. My arms and legs were at their limits, and I ran towards A-9 and ducked under their swing, I pushed their back down and swept my legs under theirs, their head slamming into the ground.
I panted hard, struggling to catch my breath. "And that’s a match, you need to improve your swings, Quinn. You cant rely on your fists all the time." The trainer let out a breathy chuckle and laid his arm over my shoulders, my white jumpsuit darkening in areas l've sweated. "I’ll work on it Jansen, can't be a weapon if I cant fight, huh?” smirked and nodded my head towards him.
"Quinn! My name is Quinn!" Alby ran over and grabbed my hand, raising it towards the sky. “To Quinn!” He bellowed out and the other Gladers crowded around, taking turns shoving me and patting my back, cheering my name.
I never felt more belonging.

I wasn’t the first person in the glade, maybe the twentieth or twenty-first. The comforting smell of spring grass and rain dew was the first thing that comforted newbies that popped up from the box. It was so long ago, but I remember my first night in the glade.
I was scared, people laughed at me and I couldn’t remember a thing. I hid myself in Homestead, the walls outside were unbearable to look at. i felt trapped, alone, hell i was alone.
i was one of my own kind, first female to appear from the box. y’know, at first i thought i was being punished, like i had done something wrong and this was a judgement gone wrong.
there was a knock on the door, and then a soft creak from the wood scrapping the floor as it opened.
“Hey greenie, you going to hide forever?” called a soft but strong voice. I didn’t want to reply, why should i? i didn’t know who these people, i can’t trust anyone.
silence past over Homestead, a long sigh passing through the boy. “Listen.. I understand you’re scared,” the floor scuffed under his steps.
“But we’ve all been there. I’m sure you have questions that I can answer, you’re safe here.” finally, the steps stopped in front of the long table i hid under. “So, please, come out.”
I hesitated, but i felt satisfied enough with his statement to peak my head out from under the table. He was tall, looked older than most i’ve seen and reaked off confidence, he was a leader.
“Ah, there she is.” his hand reached out to help me out, a gesture of peace. I took his hand, and he pulled me up. “not much of a talker?” I just stared at him, unblinking and uncomfortable.
He chuckled through his breaths, “That’s okay, I’m sure us boys out there will break down those walls someday.”
It was awkward for a few moments, the only sound was the shuffling of my feet that connected to the ground, in which my eyes did too. “Are you ready to come out? i’m sure they’re dying to meet you.” he said encouragingly, with such a contagious hopeful smile that you couldn’t help but grow one as well.
That was when i spoke my first words.
“Gladly” was all i said and he grasped my hand and led me softly outside.
The sun glared brightly in a cloudless sky, it was so bright i immediately covered my eyes for some shade.
“This, is the glade.” He said, leading me over to a skinny but tall blonde.
“Newt! Come ‘ere” The blonde looked back squinting before dropping his tools in the garden and running over to greet me with a smile.
“Well well, if it ain’t the greenie” His accent was thick, his lopsided smile matched his energy as he catches his breath from running.
“Yeah well I want you to show her around, think you can do that for me?” He asked Newt, sounding like a question but it felt like an order. “Can do Alby, I’ll pick up from here.”
So his name was Alby, well Alby turned to wave goodbye before running off to do something. “Hey love, just follow me and keep up yeah?” His smile was so comforting.
He turned and starting to walk in another direction, i had to push my strength in my legs just to keep up with his pace.
“I’m Newt, by the way” he said as we walked through the field.
“I’m..” I paused confused, do I not have a name? who am i? Why am I drawing a blank?
“It’s alright greenie,” he snickered “We didn’t remember our names at first either, you’ll remember it soon or a nickname will get too stuck for us to start calling you by it.”
“That’s what happened to Frypan” He smirked, opening the door to a kitchen slash dining hall.
“Now I know you’re not talking klunk, shank.” Frypan called out from his position behind the counters.
Newt chuckled and Frypan directed his attention to me. “Hey greenie, how’s your first day goin? any messes yet?”
Silence took over for a second, i built my liquid courage. “I’m definitely gonna need therapy after this.”
small laughter filled the silence, “So she does speak.” Newt said
I shrugged, “What can I say, I’m mysterious.”
“Ah well are you? You’ll definitely have a chance to prove that card at the bonfire later tonight.” frypan said as he cooked for lunch.
I turned and looked at Newt confused, “Bonfire?”
Newt smiled “Yeah, we get a new greenie every month, gives us enough time to prepare a celebration.” I nodded along, now understanding the glade.
For the next hour Newt showed me around every touch of the glade, and i was starting to understand the algorithm.
The runners run the maze, Slicers care to live stock, Gardeners take care of crops, etc etc.
the last stop on our list were the builders. Buff teenagers working in the heat to cut wood for the special bonfire. God was it intimidating.
the most intimidating aspect about the builders, was their leader. “See that shuck with the eyebrows yelling at everyone? That’s Gally, he’s the keeper of the builders.”
Gally, The first time I saw him I was frozen. He was scary sure, but his soft muscle and toned back drew me in. Eventually I was caught staring, my face reddening as i quickly broke the eye contact we made.
“Gally, come meet the new greenbean.” Newt called him over.
“God must you call me that? So embarrassing.” I said frazzled from being caught ogling.
He laughed, “Come for the accent, stay for the existential crisis.”
Gally nodded towards his team before jogging over to me and Newt. “So.. You’re a girl.” His eyes trailing my body up and down. I knew it wasn’t sexual, everyone had done it.
I laughed in awkward, “Uh yeah I guess I am.” my eyebrows creased and my tongue trailing the side of my mouth.
“Yeah well just keep out of my way and we won’t have any problems, got it?” his eyebrows raised in question but he jogged off before I could even get offended.
“Jesus i’ll just go ahead and fuck myself.” i scoffed, muttering in disbelief as my eyes watched his movements.
“Hey don’t let him mess with you, the guys a bloody twat. You’ll get to prove yourself tonight anyways.” Newt placed his hand on my shoulder and stood next to me.
“Why, what’s tonight?”
