Could you describe the physical sensations you remember from labor and birth?

contractions start in your back and wrap around to the front. i felt very aware that my uterus is cone-shaped….the pain almost felt like a funnel down into my pelvis. it felt good to rock my hips while leaning over a counter or dresser; i couldn’t sit or lay down without triggering a massive contraction. when things really kicked off I made a lot of noise, just out of instinct. honestly i was kinda mooing haha!

“the urge to push” seems like a total polite euphemism to me. i was pushing and there wasn’t much i could do about it. at first this was only at the end of contractions and kind of staccato with my vocalizations naturally turning into short grunts. transition contractions were rough…I would throw my head back with my legs propped on a stool, body completely tense and arched back over the toilet. the contraction would build quickly and the peak felt like being torn apart from the inside, followed by uncontrollable bearing down.

I read a novel once where a character is in labor in a dangerous situation and someone accompanying her asks if she can slow her contractions down and she says “sure, next time you’re puking why don’t you just close your mouth and swallow it,” which is a fair description of how involuntary it is to push. the pushing contractions still hurt but being able to relax and fully give over to the reflex was so much easier to handle

Multiples is overrated imo. What’s really hot is just one big baby. Imagine your belly gets so big, you’re certain you’ll be having twins… until you start to give birth and feel just how massive your baby is and how hard it will be for you to push it out.

God, yes, and any time an excruciatingly painful contraction starts, I think back to my expectations and scenarios about the birth at that moment - I didn't think it'd hurt that much, I thought I'd take pleasure from it... Finally, after hours of contractions forcing my big twins down and down-- the twins drop dangerously low and my waters break, and it all vanishes because the contractions hurt not in a pleasurable way and the sudden immense pressure? Whoa. A bowling ball, two of them, getting ready to leave my body against gravity.

Going into labor but wanting to wait for the other parent… the contractions are getting worse and worse, but on the other hand, it’s like your body knows you can’t do this yet… for all the pain you’re hardly progressing. Just struggling for hours in limbo but when your partner finally gets there and is able to hold you your body is ready… your partner is there to rub your belly and tell you how good you’re doing and finally you can tell that all the pain will be worth it

Suddenly, all the pressure shifts and I need to push NOW after long hours without seemingly any progress... Probably the second my partner gets through the door, just as if my body knew that it was finally time. It was tme to start pushing, though, because I'm sure getting the baby out would be a whole different story.

My partner comes back home after 9-5 and by midnight I'm just ready to do the last few pushes, spent and begging for it to end...
