Hi Portal fans!

I mentioned yesterday that I’m considering an animation with a little more effort put into it, and I think what I’d like to do is re-animate the last part of the final boss of Portal 2. I can’t get the audio myself so I was going to ask permission to use someone else’s recording of that scene. Problem: I can’t find a clean recording of what I need! After the stalemate button is pushed, it seems like every player takes the next shot as soon as possible and cuts off Wheatley’s lines (or it’s a Let’s Play and the player is narrating the whole time) I need him to at least finish most of what he’s saying in order for what I have in mind to work.

Is there anyone out there that can record this for me? I can draw you a color single-character request in return!

Hastily-animated Chell from Portal 2

Oh wow, people really like this! I think I’ll make something Portal that’s not-so-hastily animated in the future =)

Decided to colour it! As a sort of starting point before taking any kind of colouring course.

Talo in her current armour and equipment (minus melee weapons). The only thing missing is lightning crackling around the bow, but that’s for another picture. ;)

Meet Jay, the magical enby wizard kid. They like trench coats, fingerless gloves, the color purple, and long, gravity-defying walks up the sides of skyscrapers.

Concept: fairy tale where the wicked step-parent (who is of course also some sort of warlock) transforms the princess into a swan, as one does, but rather than running off to mope around in a lake and be beautifully tragic, the princess decides to stick around the palace and cause problems on purpose.

It is a beautiful day in the palace, and you are a horrible swan princess.

We’re all jaded and cynical, l3reezey, you ain’t special. You just forgot how to laugh through it. The Gen Z kids are amazing, and if they “ok, boomer” you, it’s because you deserve it.

Do not for the love of god group me in with these children that think this phrase is okay. As a millennial I personally think the phrase is immature and shows that younger people today don’t like being told they are wrong or when a person older than them doesn’t listen to them. Go fight in the war or live through the depression than come back and cry to me about how older people don’t listen to you. Maybe it’s for this reason.

I’m considering keeping Lady Unlucky Patreons-only until its completion – it seems contradictory, but it’s a lot less stressful to hang back and detail the pages how I like when I know my potential audience is going to be limited.

The comic’s updates would be very erratic anyway, because I’m going with a quality over quantity approach. I did this with the first pages of the current edition of 20 Galaxies. I made the first 30 or so of these pages in 2009 and did the absolute best I could with them. I don’t think I set deadlines because as recall this page took weeks. Not all, but a lot of the leaves on this page were individually painted. (You can pick out the obvious Photoshop brush where they weren’t lol)

The thing is – I restarted Lady Unlucky in 2014, and while I’m already planning to revise most of the LU pages eventually, I still wouldn’t revise any of those 2009 20G pages. There are mistakes for sure, but the effort and detail I put into them still makes them good to me. (Or maybe I look at them and am more like “no way am I going through all that effort again, it’s good enough” XD)

I also tend to get discouraged when I don’t get the response I expect (which is about 95% of the time) and I either a) don’t want to work on the next page at all or b) want to work on the next page really fast in hopes that keeping the story moving will get people talking. I’ve tried adjusting my expectations but that doesn’t help at all. I suppose that makes me ~immature~ as an artist or whatever but that’s how it is. Having the pages already finished and ready to upload would cut that out entirely.

And if life happens, no update delays!

Additionally, the panels from LU I would like to keep are the ones I took my time with at risk of delaying updates (or posted a sketch of and then updated later) So I think this approach will be worth it in the long run.

Re-reading the current incarnation of Lady Unlucky to get primed for working on more Predictably I hate most of the art up until now. I’m not allowed to go back and revise it until the comic’s done so I’ll just have to live with it But there’s some things I still do like:

The cover

This intro

Rowena approaching Sain-Celes

Honestly most of Zayn’s panels

This panel of Marlin looking suspicious about why he can’t remember Rowena visiting him before

I had never drawn hands this well before and I never will again

Rowena

This hallway

The Hotel California parody for Chapter 4

The top half of this page (bottom half definitely needs reworking)

The docking bay which took way way way longer than it should have

I don’t like the art here (at this point I was burnt out and just trying to keep making pages for the sake of updating every week) but Rowena’s explanation of Abstracts is one of my favorite parts of the script

Journalish rambling a bit

This week was really rough on me – I had a ton of extra obligations all at once, which would have been trying on its own, but I was feeling physically awful on top of that AND had one of those streaks where nothing goes right. Somehow I managed to not completely break down on Friday (I told my professors I was very sleep-deprived, which was only one part of my problems but they accepted it as an explanation as to why I was off)

Another example of my luck being unnecessarily awful: I have a Chemistry exam on Tuesday night. The exam starts after the buses home stop running, meaning I have no choice but to drive the 80-mile round trip to school that day. So of course Tuesday is when we get our first major snowstorm in two months.

Not going to get worked up thinking about it right now. I’m actually doing much better today; even though I have a lot to do still and my apartment is full of my neighbors’ noise, just having a space all to myself has been beneficial.

There was a preview of the Cuphead novel coming out in March! I didn’t have time to read all of it and once I closed I couldn’t find it again =( But:

-Love what’s there so far <3

-If I read it right, “Ron” has an official name now! It’s Hughes

-My comic adaptation is an AU, based on my impressions of the game before all the official info coming out and very much animeified. (Kind of like my ancient NiGHTS adaptation before Journey of Dreams came out) I don’t intend to alter much about the story I’ve written to match the official version except the names. That being said: One of the things I was thinking waaaay back when I was first working on Threatenin’ Zeppelin is that I made Hilda’s personality too angry, and decided to explain it away by that she was just angry at her situation. But apparently my first impression of her was correct in that respect 🤣
