Why do people need subtitles to watch a show in English? I don't get it. What is wrong with the ears of young people?

#i have really good hearing actually #but the audio mixing in most movies is garbage #and series obvi #where the action scenes will blow my ears clean off my head #and the next talking scene is so quiet my neighbour mowing the lawn three houses down will overpower it #it's insane it sucks! #so i have the audio on a REASONABLE level and then have subtitles #that way i can at least match their whispering and lip movements to something #instead of cranking the volume only to get sonic boomed out of existence when there is a jumpcut to action #audio mixing makes me so mad y'all
