Hello friends! I’m the new mod, and I would like to be referred to as Mod Unicorn (also my favourite emoji) and will be tagging as such. I’m very excited to be joining the team and hope to have lots of fun in reviewing with you guys!!

Hey guys, so when I started this blog I really wasn’t expecting to get as many asks as I ended up getting. I was thinking I’d get maybe 1 or 2 emojis in my inbox sporadically and I’d be able to write reviews in my free time, but then the asks started piling up. Now when I try to write a review, I look at the number of drafts and my anxiety kicks in, ultimately meaning I don’t do it.

So, with that bit of personal info said, I’ve hired a new mod to help cut down the number of drafts a bit!

From now on you can call me Mod Moon (or just Moon if you prefer) since that’s my favorite emoji. And I’ll be tagging all my previous posts with #mod moon

I’ll leave the new mod to introduce themselves, and hopefully, we can get to actually reviewing the emojis you guys send in xD

Kind of feels like a novelty bobblehead chicken… Plastic-y and fake. I don’t like it, but I don’t hate it. 3/10, not much to say

Google

She looks traumatized! What did she see?? It has the basic shape of a chicken which is fine, but Google’s trademark gradient shading is just disgusting here. And I can’t even tell what’s happening with those tail feathers. 4/10, get her some therapy!!

Microsoft

Not terrible. The comb looks weird and like it’s not really attached to the head, but I actually kind of like this one. Obviously, though, the border is always a no-go, so I’m still knocking points off. 6.5/10

Samsung

…Interesting approach, but it is cute and has nice shading! I can’t get over the fact the legs look like slingshots though. 8/10

WhatsApp

Adorable! A good balance of highlights and shading and I love her blue eyes. She looks warm and inviting 7/10, a friend

Twitter

Okay, I just need to rant about how… Paper-y about Twitter’s emojis are. It’s like they’re cutout puppets made of construction paper and glued to a stick, and that’s just not something I can get down with.

With that said, this chicken absolutely terrifies me. Her eyes are soulless and empty, I am staring into an endless abyss of darkness when I look into them. What is she planning? Who is she working for? 3/10, I’m watching you

This is just Apple’s chicken but if she were a zombie. Seriously, those glassy eyes and the shading around them makes me think this chicken needs more sleep. Not much to say about this one, since as I said it’s basically just Apple’s emoji. 2/10

She looks like she’s disgusted or horrified, and no matter which way I turn she’s staring right at me… Don’t like that. Other than that it’s not a bad chicken! It’s a mix of realism and simplicity that’s very appealing to me, but there is some weird gradient shading that throws me off. 7.5/10

Emojidex

Ok, my first question is…. What?!!? I can’t even tell what’s happening. Is that supposed to be blush? Where’s her other leg? Why is her eye a bad circle tool? This is why we don’t put borders on every part of the emoji. It just gets confusing and… Wtf. 2/10

Messenger

She looks like she’s smiling, but the bags under her eyes tell me she’s too tired for this shit…Just like me. I can relate to this chicken, she gets me. As far as other factors, it looks very plastic in some places but it doesn’t throw me off 8/10

LG

Smooth, but lacking. It seems like they just kind of traced a chicken shape and slapped some shading on there to make it look polished when it really isn’t. Shameful. 4/10

HTC

I shouldn’t even have to explain why I hate this. Get it out of my house. I never want to see it again. 0/10

A soft, plump, lovely gal! She’s beautiful! Although she’s not as detailed as some of the others, she certainly is adorable and I LOVE her. I don’t know what SoftBank is, but so far I love their emojis, so keep it up. 8/10

I LOVE HIM!!! Cute, bouncy, nice, and the spots and the yellow belly is some awesome detail! There are some highlights that are weird, but I’ll overlook them because this snake is my friend 10/10, sweet boy

I appreciate the differentiation of having him slithering around rather than coiled up like most, the shading adds a touch of realism and he doesn’t look like he’d bite me. Not much I can say about this one, really, but I like him. 6/10

This is sleek and shiny, the shading works well, but the position looks unnatural and uncomfortable; I’d have to strain my fingers in order to replicate this. The hand itself is accurate but the fingers are too straightened out. 6/10, nice but needs improvement

Google

Starting off, the gradient is gross. There’s no real shading and the hand is too smooth. Also, what’s with this theme of two stuck together fingers in the back?  I’ll give points for the flexibility in the thumb and index finger, though. 4/10, nobody does an ok sign like that.

Microsoft

No. No. Absolutely not. Fingers do not work that way. Stop. 0/10, what the fuck

Samsung

I was disappointed with Samsung’s sorry excuse of a “shark” emoji, but this… this is refreshing. Much more flexible and natural looking, with the three fanned out fingers instead of this odd, uncomfortable theme of the two stuck together ones. The knuckles are a nice touch and the not-too-thick border adds to the cartoony look. However, the shading and highlights look a little blotchy and misplaced. 9/10, overall nice work

Good shading! Sleek and nice, but slightly blocky. The positioning looks strained and uncomfortable, though, kinda off. 5/10, could take it or leave it

Ah, now this is natural! The perspective of the other fingers is pretty much perfect, and I like how the thumb and index aren’t touched on the exact edge. The model is overall shaped nicely and sleek, and the shadows are well placed! 10/10, my okay sign looks like this

Shark emoji review

Apple

Off to a good start! Positioning isn’t far-fetched and gives off a nice sense of perspective. Colors are realistic and sleek and those eyes are adorable and friendly!! 9/10, an excellent bendy boye.

Google

This shark is.. traumatized. The gradient looks weird and the thick border looks misplaced. And what are those fins? At least the position is decent. 2/10, who hurt him

Microsoft

This one is just ugly. He has no teeth!! How does he eat?? The border is just gross, at least Google was a bit more subtle. 0/10, straight up boring

Emojipedia

This one is quite realistic but that’s part of the problem, it makes him look kind of mean. However, the blue tone makes him look like he’s swimming along underwater and there’s a bit of perspective there which is cool. Overall looks like a bad video game render. 4.5/10, nice effort but could be better

This is a short-nosed dolphin. 0/10, you had one job

Tiny friend!! Like Apple the eyes are kind-looking and there’s a subtle gradient but it doesn’t over-blow it. Something about the tail looks weird though and he’s kind of boring. 7/10, a trustworthy shark

He looks like he doesn’t want to be here. The color is too dark and, come on, surely you could’ve done better than a single dark gray? The fins are just disappointing, and the teeth look like they’re glued underneath his mouth. Also, that tail positioning is so unfitting and weird. 1/10, you get a point for trying, Twitter

Wow!! what a beautiful boy!! Quite refreshing after seeing Twitter’s absolute failure. His tail position is realistic and the perspective is nice! Shading and highlights are well done and the style pulls off a realistic-but-cartoonish look very nicely! My only problem is that he looks a little frightened. 9.5/10, trustworthy and kind

This one looks kind of like a rendered down version of the Facebook one, but he’s the only smiling shark and that gets a high score from me!! The colors are great and his eyes are welcoming and friendly! 10/10, he is my best friend

Emojidex

Usually, emojidex disappoints me, but this is quite well done! They took an original approach with this one and I appreciate that. They also added a subtle border that looks nice and the gradient shading works well. Water is a nice touch but it looks kind of off. 8/10, exceeds expectations
