This card. Here's my long overdue analysis on it!

I've seen a lot of people say it's vampire An, and I can see why. But my first thought was more of a predator-prey relationship. In the animal kingdom, lying limp and exposing their neck like Kohane is doing is used to show submission to those higher up in the hierarchy (eg wolves to their pack leaders), or show their predators that they've "given up". In other cases, it can also be used to show complete trust, especially to their lovers, since its very easy to fatally injure them with their neck exposed like that, and doing that is basically saying "I trust you not to hurt me while I'm defenceless".

In that sense, that's what Kohane is trying to show An—"I trust you with my life". I can't tell if An looks angry or longing, but going with the former, An doesn't want Kohane to trust her so much. She wants her to get up and fight back with everything she has, because An doesn't trust herself not to accidentally hurt Kohane. Yet Kohane is willing to accept that, because that's just how much she trusts An.

I just finished reading through all the vbs event stories that I've missed and finally figured out the difference between An and Kohane’s relationship and Akito and Touya's relationship.

An and Kohane’s relationship is primarily based on mutual respect. They want each other to be proud of them, and in order to achieve that they push themselves to reach greater heights so that they can be better than the other.

Akito and Touya's relationship, however, is primarily based on mutual trust. They push themselves to improve further because they want to stand next to each other, shoulder-to-shoulder.

An Shiraishi and her feelings

So, the Singing in Sync event was how An realised she didn't view Kohane as her equal so she got too protective of her and tried to shield her from mistakes which ended up disrupting their dynamics early on, but what if those feelings weren't An thinking she was more superior than Kohane, but her starting to realise that Kohane had a lot more hidden potential than she originally thought? Which resulted her in being afraid that she'll get left behind and be alone again once Kohane truly blossoms, so to prevent that from happening she subconsciously started stepping in to "help" Kohane and stop her from learning and thus growing and progressing in her skills? Yet she and everyone else mistakenly thought it was An not truly thinking of Kohane as her partner as no one knew at that time that An has anxiety and insecurity issues as she was always so confident especially in her singing.

In that sense An's anxiety and feelings of insecurity had actually appeared way before Bout for Beside You and mainly stemmed from An's environment growing up in Vivid Street and Nagi, both of which were explained in further detail in Vivid Old Tale. All her life, An has been praised and noticed for simply being Ken's daughter and all of them compared An to Nagi, which made An want to become even more like Nagi since it made people happy (and that's what she wanted right?). To the point that An actively tries to imitate Nagi to the best of her abilities ― her mannerisms, personality, and singing style ― which ultimately led her to where she is now, struggling to find her own sound because she had forgotten that she wasn't Nagi, and that means that her singing style would be different from hers. An's feelings of frustration, helplessness, everything, are what will truly make her stand out because her experiences are what makes her so unique, and to fully utilize that potential she has to sing with those feelings, like she did in Resonant Town (which Shiho picked up on). Hopefully Whip the Wimp Girl will show An finally embracing her own singing style and breaking away from Nagi's shadow, because thats the only way she can surpass rad weekend in my opinion.

As for An's and Kohane's relationship, it's actually still quite unstable although they have been partners for about a year already. They haven't seemed to form complete trust between them, which makes sense since they didn't get much of a chance to work together as a pair before forming VBS unlike Akito and Touya. Considering An thinks that her entire identity is 'being Nagi', she would definitely feel like it was being ripped from her after Kick it Up a Notch when Kohane was almost good enough to reach Nagi's level. If she wasn't Nagi, then who was she? An feeling lost and as if she didn't belong in VBS (since RADder had Nagi, Ken and Taiga which she thinks of as Kohane, Touya and Akito) is a given. An definitely doesn't want to feel jealous of and inferior to Kohane, and is probably guilty that she feels that way at all, since they were supposed to be partners and not rivals. Facing it head on may be the only way An will realise that Kohane wasn't going to leave her just because of that and start forming that unbreakable bond of trust between them.

AKITOYA DANCE PARTNERS AU

here's a little snippet of the fanfic i've been working on

The first thing Akito noticed about him wasn’t his perfect form as he leapt across the room, or the way his feet were so en pointe as he twirled on the floor, or his elegant movements as he danced, although all those observations did come later. It was his eyes, a clear grey that commanded the room, that drew in his gaze like gravity, making it impossible to look away from him. He didn't even falter a single step when their eyes met, although a look of surprise did flit across his (decidedly very pretty) features. 

In fact, he seemed to revel in the undivided attention, moving confidently in time to the music, flawless execution only possible due to being honed by years of practice. Akito even caught a glimpse of a small smirk on his face as he danced past.

Just like that, Akito was a goner.

AKITOYA ANDROID/CYBORG AU

I've always wanted to write an android AU and I came up with three versions!

android Akito human owner Touya

-An makes androids, and she gives Touya one for his 19th birthday. His purpose is to help him around the house and provide him with emotional support, keep him company as he works on his classical music holed up at home by his father’s orders

-however, the android called Akito seems to be defective. It is unable to do much housework or effectively provide him “emotional support”, sometimes acting sassy. An checks Akito over and declares that there is nothing wrong.

-Touya still enjoys Akito's company and they get closer. Akito finds out about Touya's relationship with his father and why he hates music. Akito, wanting to help, listens to different kinds of music, and both of them realise that An made Akito’s vocal cords well enough for him to be able to sing. Touya gets inspired by Akito’s singing and starts to join him, leaving classical music.

-Touya’s father gets mad at him for not finishing his composition and tries to hit him, but Akito protects him and gets hit instead. 

-Touya brings Akito to An for a checkup and they stay there to escape from his father. They form vivid bad squad with An and Kohane who is An’s first ever android. 

-Touya knows he is falling for Akito but is conflicted because Akito is just an android

-Akito tells Touya he loves him but Touya lashes out and says that his feelings were not real and he was just made to feel that way.

-???

2. human Akito and cyborg Touya (inspired by one punch man)

-Touya gets into an accident and suffers deadly injuries; Akito, only able to preserve his brain, some other body parts and blood, turns him into a cyborg to save his life

-to thank Akito for saving his life, Touya insists on becoming his house helper (also because he has nowhere to live now that his home was burnt down) 

-Akito says he only agreed because it will make checkups/repairs on him more convenient (not because Touya looks attractive, nope, haha...)

-thus began their life of living together…

3. androids Akito and Touya

-Akito and Touya are androids made by an illegal experimental organisation in japan and are trained as assassins 

-they work as a team with An and Kohane who are also androids

-they are kept locked up in the organisation’s experimental facility and are unable explore the world freely

-hating their purpose, and wanting to live a normal life, they form a plan to escape

-they succeed, but not without severe casualties…

I personally don't really like the first one its kinda weird to me to think about a human and android being in love... I might write a fic for the second one if i feel like it.
