You know, historically, one of the big reasons that centralised social media was able to eclipse self-hosted forums so readily is that people wanted to get away from the constant Damoclean peril of the local boy-king flipping his shit and going on a banning spree every time someone mildly criticised him. a fellow black trans mutual of mine, @rulerofpurple was terminated today for criticizing tumblr's unjustified banning of trans women and black people on their platform. @rulerofpurple 's partner was banned as well.

For those who don't remember, here's the lawsuit two years ago where Tumblr (or specifically Automattic) settled with the New York City Commission on Human Rights regarding Tumblr's terribly implemented porn ban targeting LGBTQ folk more than it should. Here's an excerpt detailing what the NYCCHR ordered Tumblr to do:

The settlement gives Tumblr 180 days to hire an expert on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) issues and provide related training to moderators. It must also hire someone with experience in this area as well as expertise in image classification, who will review Tumblr’s moderation algorithms to see if they’re more likely to flag LGBTQ content. As part of an overall review, Tumblr will reexamine 3,000 old cases where a user successfully appealed a takedown, looking for patterns that could indicate bias.

Now, on a totally unrelated note, here's the complaint page for reporting discrimination to the NYCCHR. Completely unrelated to what's going on right now or the rest of this post, I swear.

A resident physician at the University of Ottawa's faculty of medicine who was suspended over pro-Palestinian social media posts says he's been reinstated but has no plans to return to the institution. Dr. Yipeng Ge, 29, was sanctioned by the university last November after it got several complaints about a series of pro-Palestinian posts he'd made, ones that included references to "apartheid" and "settler colonialism." At the time of his suspension, Ge had been a fourth-year public health and preventive medicine resident and was completing a residency at the Public Health Agency of Canada. His research has focused on Indigenous health, anti-racism and decolonization.

Denying a trans reading of Scott Pilgrim not because I don't see it but because if Scott was an egg and Ramona was a trans woman then there'd be no fucking way she'd be adhering to the prime directive this fucking hard whenever he says some egg shit.
