summer studying challenge: 10th of August 2020
What is your favourite summertime snack? - I love bruschetta! I never manage to make them as well as they do it in Italy, but I still try haha! Featuring some books from the same colour palette that I’ve had to read for class over the years.

I feel that in the studyblr community nobody actively talks about the study environment some of us have, so shoutout to those students that:
• live with their parents (not everyone goes to college/uni where they have dorms, and even then, not everyone can afford it)
• have to deal with parents/family members constantly arguing in the background
• work / have to worry heavily about just getting by (paying rent, groceries, medication)
• need loud music to study and drown outside noises
• can not "study prettily" at coffee shops
• take care of other family members, and thus have to be ready to drop whaterever they are doing to assist them at any time
• can not concentrate or get "in the zone" no matter what they do
• do not have a personal computer/tablet
• do not have a room of their own
• are neurodivergent and the advice of most study masterpost/tips is not applicable.
You are valid, you are seen, you are not alone. If nobody has told you already: if you are trying the best you can then the best you can is good enough.
sincerely, a student who needed to hear this.

currently starting a french vocab list for the book im reading! these words are taken from Dans ma chambre by Guillaume Dustan. esp if youre interested in learning abt slang, gay culture, the AIDS crisis in paris, and vulgar words in french (lol) i highly recommend!!!!!! words that are considered more familiar usage (i.e. do not put them in ur french paper for school) are marked with (fam.) & i’ve provided a few examples of the words whose definitions might be harder to understand without context.
ch. 1 glauque (adj.) - officially means “murky” or “blue-green,” but in slang means “seedy” or “shady” en prime (loc. adv.) - as a bonus s’emmerder (v.) - to be bored shitless (fam.) à la con (loc. adj.) - fucking stupid / “son truc à la con” - his stupid fucking thing se barrer (v.) - to scram (fam.) / “barre-toi !” - scram! gueuler (v.) - to shout (fam.) faire chier [qqn] (v.) - to piss off [someone] (fam.) / “tu me fais chier !” - you’re pissing me off!
ch. 2 se bourrer la gueule (v.) - to get wasted/shitfaced/hammered/very drunk (fam.) parano (adj.) - paranoid (fam.) / this is an abbreviation of “paranoïaque” ringard (adj.) - unfashionable, uncool accoudé (adj.) - leaning on one’s elbows monté (adj.) - hung (fam.) (as in penis size) se raidir (v.) - to stiffen up, to tense up se foutre de la gueule [de qqn] (v.) - to mess, to fuck around [with someone] (fam.) / “tu te fous de ma gueule ?” - are you fucking with me? are you messing with me?

i recently got asked how i get such bright lighting for my posts and i thought it would be a good opportunity to tell you all how i edit my pictures! i’ve recently changed how i edit my pictures and it works so well so why not share! it was inspired by how one of my favourite studygram accounts (tasneemstudying) edits her pictures! check out her account and she has a highlight on her profile where it shows how she edits her pictures!
if you have anymore questions, feel free to send me an ask! and make sure to check out my masterpost with all my other advice!
General
i use the app snapseed
in the past i’ve used VSCO but i’e found that you can do a lot more with snapseed and the pictures always turn out better
i wouldn’t necessarily recommend using filters or presets for editing because in my experience every photo needs to be edited differently
for example, i always edit each photo individually
try to get as much natural lighting as possible
i know it can be difficult in winter so i would recommend that when you have decent lighting, take as many pictures as possible when it is good
take multiple pictures of the same notes/set up but from different angles so you have options when editing
1. Curve Function
Tumblr media
open the snapseed app
insert the picture that you want to edit
crop/rotate etc. if needed
use the curve function to change the lighting and make it brighter (this is particularly useful in winter when lighting isn’t as good)
you just need to play around with it until you are happy with it
2. Decrease Saturation
Tumblr media
next go to the tune image tool
scroll to saturation
reduce the saturation completely to -100
it should be black and white now
3. Return Saturation to Certain Areas
Tumblr media
this is perhaps the confusing bit but it’s very important:
return to the main screen
in the top right hand corner, click the button with the layered squares and the arrow
then click view edits
this will take you to the point shown in the lefthand picture
tap on the ‘tune image’
click on the paintbrush option
then click the invert button and the mask button
this should get you to the point shown in the righthand picture
this means that the paper and handwriting in black will be very defined and not have their colour distorted by any editing
but at the same time you can erase the low saturation to make colourful parts of the notes stand out
Tumblr media
make sure the brush setting is at zero
start going over the areas with colour
the red will go away and the colour will no longer be black and white
make sure to zoom in close so you can get really close the the edges of the coloured areas
do this for all areas of colour
if you make a mistake, you can simply increase the brush setting to 100, paint over the area with the mistake and this will make it unsaturated again
4. Increase Brightness
Tumblr media
then return to the tools menu and click on the ‘selective’ tool
select a spot that you want to brighten and tap to add the spot
swipe left and right to change the brightness
you are probably going to want to increase the brightness, particularly of the background
add more selective points wherever needed and repeat with the brightness
if you want to change the extent of the selective effect do a pinching movement
5. Add the Watermark
Tumblr media
return to the tools page
click on the text tool
type in your watermark or name
choose the font and colour
place on your photo
6. Save!
Tumblr media
save your picture!
and you are done
✨✨✨
Here are some more tips from my answer to an ask about how to take studyblr pictures

Así moriríamos
para no estar separados
tu casa ha de seguir
siendo mi casa.
Tengo que entrar y salir de allí
tengo que quedarme allí,
cuidarla,
porque, si no, nadie ve
lo que encuentran tus mustios ojos
por la tarde, solo a mí
yo lo sé, por ello,
la casa, mi casa
ha de ser, para siempre, esté
donde esté, debo
preparar la tarde,
y los pensamientos, ocu-
parme de su reposo.

Common native mistakes
Comme même instead of Quand même
Using the infinitive instead of a past participle when building the perfect - J’ai manger or imperfect tense - Je mangé instead of J’ai mangé
Messing up verbs - Je buvrais instead of Je boirais*
Possessive Sa instead of demonstrative Ça
Treating Ces, Ses, C’est like synonyms
Writing Acceuil instead of Accueil
Mixing up the gender of Testicule, Pétale, Éloge…
Adding -s to the singular first person to verbs that end with a vowel in the imperative tense - Écoutes!
Adding -s to the singular first person in the present tense - J’arrives
Common mistakes from foreigners
*There’s a reason for that. Certain verbs, like Être, Avoir, Faire, Aller, Vouloir…, have had two bases since the Middle Age. People then expect other verbs to be irregular when they’re not and destroy them (like Boire here).

i really love learning not-quite-synonyms. i just learnt a list of six korean words that all mean “to wear”, but they’re used with different items of clothing or accessories. and i understand why these items are grouped that way and where the nuance in difference is between those verbs and yet even if i really try to find some obscure german verbs that correspond to those, i can’t. it’s something that i find really beautiful about language learning in general, you discover hidden nuances and new ways to look at things that you may have never considered before and it’s just really cool

langblr playlists
Hello :)
Listening to music in my target language(s) always helped me a lot with pronunciation, vocabulary and use of language, so i’ve decided to share my spotify playlists that each focus on one language!
Some of them are still under construction and don’t have a lot of songs, but they will grow, I promise!
Links:
German  Spanish  Portuguese  Romanian  Russian  Serbian  Slovene  Lithuanian  Turkish  French  Polish  Hungarian  Ukrainian  Norwegian  Estonian  Arabic  Bulgarian  Korean  Chinese  Finnish  Thai  Japanese
Big playlist with non-English songs only: click here
If the playlist links do not work, this link will lead you to my page!
Note: These playlists are sorted by language, not by country! You might notice different accents!
