So here’s the ‘secret messages’ i was talking about.
They’re not really secret messages, but they actually do give away some interesting things about the teachers (especially the death school one which i’ll get to last), and i thought it would be interesting to do a sort of analysis on what is enscribed into the chalk boards located in each school house.
Ok so the Myth, Life, Storm, and Fire chalk boards don’t really give any significant stuff other than: Neither Molinda or Falmea aren’t married, because their names use the “Ms.” abbreviation instead of the “Mrs.”, and also i noticed that “Bounceback” (life chalkboard) and “Fire Sword” (fire chalkboard) aren’t real spells in the game. I looked on the wiki, and can’t find them anywhere, not even in the retired spells section. So, there’s that.
if you notice, Lydia Grerose is the only teacher with the “Prof.” abbreviation for Professor, which is actually really interesting. I don’t know what being a professor actually means in the universe we know as The Spiral, but, apparently Lydia’s a professor.
We also already know that she’s the only teacher in Ravenwood to be a part of The Council of Light, which is really cool!
If you look under the lesson plans on the chalk board, it reads “blue snow flakes” and “create stairs of Ice”. This is very different from the other teachers lesson plans, as all of them simply state to cast certain spells, while Lydia seems more focused on the nature of ice, and what different elements of ice mean and do, rather than just simply learning spells.
Ice rules btw
So The Balance chalkboard, i got really excited about; i was all “yoooo i can totally translate that!” but when i looked up about a dozen alphabet charts and translators for hieroglyphics… it was like it was written in a different Language.
I couldn’t translate what was up on the board because it seems KingsIsle wrote their own language for Krokotopia; which is weird because they use an real languages for other cultural worlds like Grizzleheim, Mooshu, Zafaria, Azteca, etc. So… yea, kinda disappointing :c
However, i was still excited to find the Death school’s chalk board.
Where the teachers name should have been, it reads “Fallen from above”, which could mean a few things here.
At first, i was like “Oh yea, that’s just referencing how the school feel from above” thing right?”
But then i thought about it and i was like, “what if it was referring to the dead, or more specifically a dead (person)?” The dead can be described as fallen, because they do sort of “fall into the ground” per say when they are buried. Also, this is written in place of the teachers name, which would have been “Mr. Malistaire Drake” before Sylvia had died.
Then below it says, “Death Survives below” which could actually be a hint to where Malistaire’s lair was in Dragonspyre, which was in the Crown of Fire, located inside a volcano, aka a place underground.
What does this add up to? Well, i think Malistaire had written these things before he completely lost himself to his madness, and disappeared. Cyrus has said before that “The true Malistaire died long ago” and i perceive that as Malistaire’s very soul had died along with Sylvia’s. Why? Because they are literally soul mates; when two people share a bond like theirs, it’s unbreakable. There of, their souls are forever bound to each other, and must be with one another for all eternity.
So Malistaire was really a soulless body, and that’s why he was driven mad; because the parts of the shadow essence inside him could easily take over his mind, and use him as a sort of puppet per say.
To further back this up, the chalkboard further reads “Death = Strong” and “Takes from others”
The “Death = Strong” could be Malistaire expressing how Sylvia’s Death was too strong for him to handle, and how the shadows were taking over whatever little life he had left inside him.
"Takes from others" can be looked at as a type of warning to whom ever finds the remains of the Death School; meaning that Death Magic never gives anything back, it only takes from others, and also the person who wields such a force. This also explains Malistaire’s reason for sinking the Death School in the first place: To ensure no other would raise to such a high level of Death Magic (like Malistaire had) that they would lose everything they had, even themselves.
So basically, this would translate to: “My name is Malistaire Drake, and i have died, or am about to. I reside in where the dead belong, yet the living still roam. The power (of death) is overwhelming, and i can no longer control it’s massive strength. Do not follow in my tracks, for it will deprive those who do in every way imaginable.”
…or that’s how i think he would have put it in full sentence form.
So yup, that’s what i found. Enjoy~
