A (mostly) Scientific Revolution blog, featuring art, cosplay, translations, memes, and too many words about dead philosophers.
Robert Hooke is my spirit animal.
An episode of Churchill's People about the Earl of Rochester being tasked to retrieve a corpse from plague-ridden London for the Royal Society to dissect.
Featuring a meeting at Wadham College with Charles II, Boyle, Hooke, Wren, Petty, Evelyn, and Wallis.
Boyle looks very Boyle (cute and awkward)
Wren only has one line and just sits there looking pretty
Evelyn looks okay. Honestly I would've cast him as Hooke instead 'cause I dig the hair.
A 7-page article from American Book Collector. The third in a three-part series (I don't have the other two, but apparently they cover Evelyn and Pepys, respectively).
I don't know how long this bust has been sitting at the Hooke Museum on the Isle of Wight, but between this and the Greer portraits there's no excuse to make him look like van Helmont any longer.
At least whoever sculpted this made an attempt to stay faithful to his actual description (except for the butt chin).
(Not just a Souls weapon, but a trick weapon straight out of Bloodborne? Hell yeah)
It may or not be the end, but you know one thing: You're not going down without a fight.
Newton, feigning generosity, offers you a head start in his taunting sneer, and you use the opportunity to quickly put some distance between him and yourself. As you make your way through the Forgotten Repository, you quickly scan the shelves and cabinets for anything that could serve as a weapon.
Among the priceless artifacts and inventions left to decay under the apathetic watch of the tyrant before you, you find—miraculously still in pristine condition—Hooke's one-of-a-kind whale bone crossbow. A serendipitous encounter that will certainly level the playing field, if not give you an edge.
As you load the weapon, you realize that the fight for your own survival has evolved into a battle to defend the honor of the First Curator.
The Royal Society mace is just a Dark Souls weapon
