Fic Writers Appreciation! When you get this you need to choose one of your own fics to celebrate and then rec a fic from another author. Pass it on!
I actually opened still mates last night just to find a comment I like but then I read the first few lines and got really engrossed in the story and ended up reading the whole thing lmao. Idk what possessed me to write all that, but hey, it slaps.
I shall rec the flame is getting low which I read ages ago, and remembered every now and again but I could never find it, and then the other day I made this magical realisation that sometimes when I subscribe to fics I forget to also bookmark them so there might be lost fics in my ao3 subscriptions, and indeed there was. It is now safely in my bookmarks where it should’ve been :)

“It was at the Liverpool Empire. I was looking at John on the stage, but all I could see was him as a little boy. I always used to take him to the Empire at Christmas for his annual treat. I remember the time we’d seen Puss in Boots. It had been snowing and John’s Wellingtons were still on in the theatre. When Puss came on in his big boots, John stood up and shouted, ‘Mimi, he’s got his Wellington boots on! So have I.’ His little voice was heard everywhere and everyone looked at him and smiled.”
— John Lennon’s Aunt Mimi

Marianne’s Paul anecdotes are so interesting to me, like you get the sense she had a pretty good idea of who he was and still loves him. Also just like the idea Paul got along way more with her than Mick lol
yesss she's so amused by him. i think it was probably easier for them to be friends because there's no need for competitive macho posturing between them the way there would be with mick (even if it was a one-sided rivalry, i don't think paul was unaware that he and mick were compared to each other profesionally, y'know.) but also marianne just seems so fond of him in that way you are with your more ridiculous friend.

Big "Body Count" enjoyer as well here, but what did you think about this gem of a quote from Francie:
“No, really, what’s Paul like? I heard he was gay.” “He might have gone that way, but he didn’t. He really didn’t dig fucking all that much, if that’s any kind of an answer.”
It never left my mind, love the pettiness.
goddddd the layers. regardless of the shady implications, i also just love how francie really clarifies this sense that he was going through the motions and had no idea what he actually wanted or was doing that year. it comes through in other people's quotes about him too, but francie identifies it in these really sharp and wry ways ("medici prince" truly the paul descriptor of all time!!!!). they could never make me hate you francie schwartz <3

When trying to determine the veracity of a piece of Beatles lore make sure to always ask yourself these three important questions:
1. Is it funny?
2. Is it cunty?
3. Is it insane?
If the answer to any of these is yes then it definitely happened. Don’t worry about the source, that’s not relevant.
