Just thought of something really funny for my scifi au but it’s not going to make sense to anyone because there’s no context
One of many such tragedies

Happy birthday to one of the coolest things I’ve ever drawn
Tumblr media
I’ve seen a LOT of different - all very cool - ideas for what Martyn’s winner thing should be and naturally I’m going to make it worse
Martyn design by @cherrifire !
(Explanation and version with blood under the cut)
See, my thinking is that Limited Life’s win broke a pattern. In every previous season, the winners were victorious due to some sort of contradiction to the rest of the game.
Third Life was a war fought in self-interest. Most factions came together to fight simply because they had a greater enemy than each other that needed to be taken care of. Even people who were incredibly loyal to their allies expected loyalty in return. Grian won because of Scar’s selflessness. He gave his life not as a test, not to become a stronger weapon, not to pay back a debt. He gave his life for gratitude. A peace treaty signed in blood.
Due to the introduction of the boogieman mechanic in Last Life, that season was one of hidden intentions. In the end, there was no will-I-won’t-I. The final four declared, with utmost clarity what their intentions were. We’re going our separate ways, and when we next see each other we will kill each other.
In Double Life the pairs were meant to protect and care for each other, to bring each other to the end. Pearl not only was shunned by her soulbound, but actively caused harm to herself and Scott and was purposefully reckless with their lives. Then, I’m honestly not sure what they were meant to do when there were only two left lol. I think they would’ve either had two winners, or forced the final two to fight. Either way, Pearl wasn’t the winner of her own accord.
Finally, Limited Life, the outlier. Ironically, this season was one of sudden, unexpected deaths. You’d think it wouldn’t be, with a timer telling everyone exactly when they were going to die; and yet no one’s timer (except Martyn’s) actually hit zero. With the re-introduction of the boogieman mechanic and all the damn tnt minecarts SO many deaths were unexpected - and there were so many of them. It was a bloodbath. And that’s exactly how Martyn won. It was unexpected, it was unfair, and it was brutal.
His win was the opposite of all the others. A defiance of a pattern of defiance. It makes sense, given what I understand of his lore.
That’s why I think he ought to be the black hole (or event horizon, if you want a cooler title lol). All the other winners put out some sort of light, even if they don’t literally scientifically produce light. The sun, the stars, the moon. Martyn is the outlier, the one who embraced the darkness and the blood.
The sun, the stars, the moon, and the looming event horizon.

Not quite doomed by the narrative, but rather the universe’s punchline.

Another little batch of scifi au doodles
Featuring a couple redesigns! The species itself got a redesign but also I changed Scar’s species
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re confused about why Scar’s all red here’s a little worldbuilding dump for you:
This species (Sunseekers) is kind of like a reverse carnivorous plant. Carnivorous plants started as phototrophs and evolved to be carnivorous later. Sunseekers were carnivorous first, then evolved phototropism to supplement their energy intake.
However, camouflage was very important for their hunting methods (originally they were pretty much pure white with occasional light grey markings, it’s only since their lifestyle changed due to technological advancement that their skin/scale colors diversified), so being covered in bright red chloroplasts is not ideal. So - and take this with a grain of salt because I haven’t figured out the exact mechanism yet - their chloroplasts are underneath the pigment layer, which makes them invisible. The pigments move out of the way to reveal the chloroplasts when photosynthesizing, hence why the skin appears red! This is called “blooming” - at least for now. I may find a better word to describe it, but I do like the term “bloom” currently.
I made an animation of this process a while back, if you want to see it in motion:
Tumblr media
I made it 6 months ago though so it’s pretty out of date lol. Here are the corrections I’d make now:
The wing and scale designs are completely outdated.
The red bloom should go all the way to the edge of the scales, but probably wouldn’t cover the entire wing at once.
It would happen MUCH slower than this. A single scale wouldn’t fully bloom this fast, let alone the whole wing.
I do like how it’s stylized though! The spots are more realistic than the sorta scratchy texture in the drawing I did of Scar (tbh I was just being lazy when I rendered it because I completely forgot to add the blooming until the end).
In modern times blooming isn’t as common of a behavior because food is easier to come by, and migration is very rare (other similar lifestyles where energy expenditure is consistently rather high do exist, but aren’t as common anyway). So, it’s just not as useful to be doing it all the time. Modern Sunseekers pretty much only bloom as a response to high exposure to sunlight, or when dealing with persistent physical and/or mental stress.
So basically when the body is like: put this bitch back in survival mode we need the ENERGY NOW

Actually, all artists will go insane if you draw art of their art. The same goes for fic writers. It could be a stick figure and we'd still love it. We're also kissing you on the lips

You know sometimes you wake up from a freaky dream and it’s like “wow, I thought that was really scary, but thinking about it now that really mundane and kinda stupid”
But sometimes you wake up from a freaky dream and it’s like “I cannot breathe a word of this to another soul. There is Hell in my brain and I would not share that curse with my worst enemy”

Our Lady Of Shadows, Queen of the Fae; She'll give you a life, if you give Her your name
for @sand-stinger for the @mcythorrorgiftexchange!
you asked for lizzie, you asked for eldritch horror, and it was my pleasure to deliver!
I like to think that this is in a slightly darker fantasy world, where lizzie is a powerful eldritch fae creature. i think in this world, she is much more powerful, much more terrifying, and her turning red doesn't free ren.
(tumblr killed the quality, so open image in a new tab to get a proper look)
special thanks to @bigb-enthusiast for help brainstorming bigb's design, and @puddleorganism for advice on drawing wolves

Can’t find the old post I made about it but once again I have many new followers so once again I am reminding people to be very careful with your personal information online - even (and kind of especially) with mundane things like your age or how close the nearest Safeway is

Wip ask game!
Stumble and lost
<3
None with stumble yet but there’s two uses of lost, I decided to just put both to make up for the lack of any stumbles lol
“Sure,” Tango replied, “just uh, don’t get lost ok?” Then quieter, “That’s all we need.”
“Still, thank you. That was really good of you.” Skizz replied, though his voice lost some of that serious tone while he laughed at Scott’s response.

smile? (for the wip ask game :0)
There are actually 0 uses of “smile”’ in Intersecting Horizons so far! There are two uses of “grin”, though, which I figure is close enough. Here’s one of them:
Eventually his gaze landed on Jimmy, who couldn’t help but grin at him, equal parts smug and genuine.
