This is a masterpost for the evacuation fundraisers I've vetted so far, a few other fundraisers I find trustworthy but have not been able to vet (inability to communicate with the organizer), and a few semi-completed fundraisers or fundraisers for a different purpose (like house rebuilding, or aid distribution). The numbers next to the names have no significance beyond ease of navigation for me for when I check their progress in the future. You should look at the disclaimers instead and focus on those. Occasionally I will update these with new info, including new fundraisers, and the amount of cash that's been raised. Check in regularly on the original post when you see it being reblogged. In all likelihood once its reached you it's already outdated. Also please don't overlook the Sustainable Aid options near the bottom! The brain drain is already creating problems but having another way of keeping or creating new knowledge and key members of a functioning society is important.

SU: Isolation is not good

There are many things that make SU unique in the variety of scifi+fantasy settings we have, but I think one of the most important is how it condemns isolation. To explain, in most series where there is the everyday world and the secret fantasy/alien one, one of the most important things is to keep them separate. There might be a few humans in the know, but total exposure is treated as an apocalyptic scenario.

The justifications for this aren't just the fear that the bad guys find the good guys, but just a total fear of what humans might -do- to the supernatural. From intolerance to experiments to outright destruction of the species. Often, it is treated as paramount to stay hidden for eternity. Steven Universe, on the other hand, rejects this mentality entirely. When the series begins, the Crystal Gems intentionally stay away from humanity. While Amethyst and Steven have friends among humanity, for Pearl and Garnet (and her parts) humanity might as well be like any other animal. They aren't malicious, but they also don't really care. Yet, a big deal is made out of the fact that the gems still affect the world around and their presence brings trouble. But they don't really take accountability for it until Steven basically herds them to do so. One aspect this is shown in is how Steven, who is 13, still looks 8 because his time with the ageless gems has made him basically become as stuck in time as they are. It bears also a mention that the humanity in SU is no nicer than we are. Mr.Smiley has to work alone in Funland, money to feed himself and Steven is an issue to Greg, Marty and his BS exist, Sadie's songs are about how awful working as a teenager is and so on. It is only through the slow lowering of the barriers between the gems and humans that both sides start to benefit from one another. Pearl, who has basically been mentally living on borrowed time, becomes much more relaxed as she starts interacting with humanity. Eventually getting actual human friends. Amethyst, who has basically been rootless, gains a sense of place from meeting the Famethyst. Mr. Smiley no longer has to work gruelling hours alone, as the strong quartzes now work for him. When Steven leaves Beach City at the end of Future, the scenes where gems and humans co-exist together serve to show how much he has made the lives of everyone better by creating bridges between the once separate groups.
