Hand-tufted rug, a product of my residency at AiR Sandnes, emerged from a research on forms and landscapes. The exploration, however, took an unexpected turn, leading the artwork towards a more abstract representation.

WILD SWINE

size: 93,5 x 93,5 x 2cm

medium: 100% acrylic yarn and pompoms

year of production: 2023

During the creation of that series of rugs, I found myself utterly captivated by the enthralling animalistic symbols and mythical tales originating from the city of Milan. Throughout my residency at the VIAFARINI studio, I successfully crafted representations of both the Biscone and the Wild Swine, two characteristic beasts with strong connections to Milan.

I am thankful for the chance to take part in VIR Viafarini-in-residence, as it became possible through the support extended by the National Culture Fund of Bulgaria.

The rug portrays the mystical serpent, a powerful symbol of the divine feminine’s universal earth energy. Across local Bulgarian folklore and worldwide beliefs, the snake has been a crucial figure with profound mythological importance. In ancient times, people often linked snakes with healing. As an embodiment of chaos, fertility, and wisdom, the snake represents both fire and water, earthly and divine, as well as death and rebirth.

В периода февруари-март 2023 година Blood Becomes Water ще преобрази пространството на галерия Æther в свое ателие. Тук ще може да се запознаете с творчеството на колектива, както и с работния процес на Rosie Eisor при създаване на текстилни пана и килими.

Студиото ще бъде отворено за публика всяка събота от 4 февруари – 18 март, между 14:00 – 19:00 часа. Адрес: ул. Княз Борис I, 39, София.
