i think the reason why i (and many others) like characters who don’t get happy endings so much is because their life is already so upsetting and unfair that even if they did wrong, their situation makes up for it and so we feel the need to stand up for them, show them love and support and continue fighting in their name. on the other hand if the character does get a happy ending even if i liked the character i don’t feel the need to love them as much anymore because they have enough love and happiness. they don’t need me.
examples: (unhappy ending vs happy ending)
- jason grace vs percy jackson
- winston pratt vs nova artino
- holland vosijk vs kell maresh
- maven calore vs cal (i never liked cal though)
- the darkling vs mal oretsev (i never liked mal either)

yeah ok but why is it everytime i want to compare roles in a found family i use the crows
different character same font: six of crows and the anarchists from renegades
kaz brekker/nova artino
- leader, cunning, ambitious, black capes black mask black galore
- doesn’t want to get close to anyone
- society views them as “bad”
inej ghafa/ingrid thompson
- cutthroat, second in command, moves like shadows
- knives/bombs same idea
nina zenik/honey harper
- uses charm, flirting, plays dumb, acts crazy or unknowledgeable but is actually insanely powerful and will be violent when need be
- fiercely loyal to their friends
- kind of takes on being the mom friend
matthias helvar/phobia
- the outcast, not much known about them, the serious one
- always standing on the edge of the group being menacing but is actually a cuddly bear deep inside
- doesn’t talk much but when they do it’s the funniest one liner
jesper fahey/winston pratt
- the joker, the silly one who is really hiding their trauma with humour
- is the butt of many jokes but takes it with his head held high cause he knows they still love him
wylan van eck/leroy flinn
- chemicals, does a lot of behind the scenes stuff rather then physical fighting action
- has a pure heart and good relationship with each person
- seen as the “docile” or “nicer” one

it’s time for different character same font: grishaverse and a darker shade of magic edition
- kell maresh and kaz brekker (the dazzlers ofc)
constantly scowling and or frowning, favours black, when not pining for their badass girl who could kill them or for them, they themselves are the meanest cat on the streets
- lila bard and inej ghafa
knives galore, a shadow, wraiths. and makes their lover boys fall over themselves trying to be worthy of their presence (also saves them on too many occasions). they also want to be the captain of their own ship!
- alucard “i’m not a pirate i’m a privateer who wants to get away from the cage that is my noble lineage” emery and nikolai “i said the exact same fucking line in my book” lantsov

someone please write a fic about the anarchists’ daily lives before the parade i just want to see their dynamic w eachother so bad
- them making fun of winston and his cereal and being the butt of the joke always but you know they still love him
- he brings a lot of humour and light to the group
- I NEED TO SEE WINSTON AND NOVAS FRIENDSHIP
- honey being everyone’s overprotective mother but also is super serious when they’re plotting (still not over the fact we didn’t get to see all the anarchists attack together)
- everyone adoring nova and she’s just this little ball of fire
- ingrid always pushing them not to joke around and plan plan plan but still can’t help the corner of her mouth smirking upwards when watching how ridiculously her friends are sometimes
- and phobia, well, and phobia is phobia
- “so we’ll do this and this.. what do you think phobia?”
“your greatest fear of failure is growing strongerr”
“shut the fuck up phobia”
PLEASE SOMEONE I LOVE THEM

omg this is exactly it (i love renegades though don’t get me wrong)
this whole series is about nothing is black and white, who decided who are the heroes/villains, that’s the whole theme yet marissa insists on portraying the anarchists as the “villains” still.
ingrid would definitely give up everything they’ve worked for for 9 years for some short term revenge and try murdering nova in the process. yeahh. winston controlled children so HE IS FOR SURE EVIL!! and he deserves to die. honey, who loves nova like she were her own daughter would totally try to actually kill her in order to kill adrian. that scene was so unrealistic and out of character. when ace was in prison honey suggested they find an island or smth but when nova is they have no doubt to get her back. she chose nova over ace then so why would she randomly choose ace (killing adrian to please him). there is no doubt in my mind phobia truly has no compassion and no personality. suREEE. marissa just wanted to give a reason to show the anarchists in a worse light that isn’t in line with what they’ve been doing for the rest of the series in order to make their death acceptable.
not only did basically every renegade survive they all got their powers back and were still shown as the “heroes”. the ending really didn’t deal with all the themes and try to solve any of the problems that were discussed. nova was still written to think whether subconsciously or consciously that the renegades are “good”.
at the very least it didn’t end with happily ever after and instead something quite realistic. the peace will not last. hierarchys will be build, people will want power, and it’s only about time before it all happens again.
renegades series by marissa meyer is my enemy fr. how do you write an entire trilogy about how the lines between hero/villain are deeply blurred and that the institutionalization of superheroes as a governmental power has led to corruption and abuse of power just to have the conclusion of the trilogy be the protagonist siding with the “heroes” without any systemic change. why would you write a series if you weren’t even going to follow through on its underlying premise
